Hakodate Kokusai Hotel

The breakfast buffet boasts a wide range of options made with fresh and quality ingredients, and the kaizen don was exceptional. The hotel breakfast offers a variety and is marvelous. The buffet breakfast was the best meal we had while in Japan! The hotel was clean and the rooms were big enough that we didn’t feel cramped. The morning breakfast at the hotel tops our list of hotel breakfasts that we have had in Japan.

The hotel offers an on-site onsen with excellent amenities and a fabulous view over the city. The hotel facilities are new and clean. The hotel overall was modern and comfortable. The humanized design of the interior facilities of the room. The exterior presents a hotel with Japanese aesthetics and modern architectural style.

The location is great. Near the tourists spots. Rooms are great for families. The hotel sits within walking distance to the pier where the historic red brick storage site shopping area is. It is also within a 5 min walk to the fish market, which is a great option for breakfast. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance to the train station and the Red Brick Warehouses. The morning market (Asaichi) is also close by on foot.

Water seems to accumulate around the window area due to condensation on the cold surfaces during winter. Some rooms might be noisy due to the air-conditioning, but they quickly help us change the room. The ensuite bathroom is a little cramped. The room is too warm at night and we have to leave the window open for circulation. The lift access via card at west wing is ok, but east wing does not have the card limited access, so anyone can enter the east wing from outside carpark.

The hotel has a huge parking space, while the sheltered area is only able to accommodate around 20 odd cars, there is a bigger parking area (possibly for wedding guests as there is a small chapel attached to the hotel). The carpark is easy to access and there's a back entrance straight to the reception. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance to the train station and the Red Brick Warehouses.

Guests recommend staying in the new wing for modern and comfortable facilities.

If access to the onsen is a priority, consider staying in the west wing for closer proximity to the onsen facilities.
