Built in 2017, the MACq 01 Hotel in Hobart offers guests a unique concept. Where Tasmanians once fished and lived you’ll now find a luxurious 5-star hotel that counts as Australia's first Storytelling Hotel. This means it infuses each of its rooms with one of the five Tasmanian character traits.

The influence of Tasmanian history is palpable in every nook and cranny of the MACq 01 Hotel. The hotel features 87 luxury rooms and suites differentiated in design, with each telling a different story. The rooms dedicated to the trait "Colourful And Quirky" feature airy and fresh-coloured interiors with mismatched furniture and unexpected shapes. The "Grounded Yet Exceptional" rooms have earthier tones and celebrate the humility of the Tasmanians. The trait "Fighting Believers" inspires rooms that are perfect for people who appreciate an edgy style and absence of flashy colours. The innovators among you may find the most peace in rooms themed "Curious And Creative", which offer intelligent lighting installations and an organic flow. Finally, "Hearty And Resilient" rooms allure with rough textiles, timbers, rope textures and an earthy colour palate.

Those who want even more can also go for the hotel’s luxury suites. The extra-spacious accommodations are available with waterfront views and ADA-accessible features, and are equipped with a large walk-in shower, bathtub, complimentary parking service, walk-in wardrobe and much more. They are the ideal choice for travellers who have an extra penny for additional luxury.

While guests of all ages are welcome at this hotel, its story and history-infused concept mainly cater to culturally interested adults. Note that cots and cribs cannot be accommodated in the rooms. Culture-savvy guests can venture out into the hotel’s neighbourhood to explore more of the illustrious Tasmanian history, for example at the nearby Hobart Docks (about 5min on foot) and Hunter Street Precinct (about 1min away). You can also visit Salamanca, where you’ll find local produce at the market and an array of diners, brasseries, breweries and live entertainment. The market square is about 10min from the hotel on foot.
