Car Rental

In 2003, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport opened the Consolidated Rental Car Facility. Every rental car company serving Houston and surrounding areas are found within this building. Car rental companies included in the facility include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. By opening the separate facility, floor space with the airport was freed up and traffic at the terminal's curb sides was cut in half. The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is approximately five minutes from the airport and passengers take earth-friendly shuttle buses to the building where all rental car companies are located on one floor. The rental cars are never more than 300 feet from the reservation counters. All cars are parked in covered areas, so inclement weather is not a factor.

Public/Ground Transfer

Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) is located at Terminal C's South Concourse. Fares for METRO are $1.50 for adults or 35¢ for children aged five to eleven. Children under five are free if accompanied by their parent. Fares must be paid in cash, exact change only. Discount fares are available for seniors, students, handicapped passengers, and Medicare card holders. To obtain a discounted fare, riders must get a METRO I.D. card from the company.

Airport Shuttles

A company known as Ground Shuttle provides shuttle transportation for College Station residents to and from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport for a flat fee of $21.99 plus an additional $4.99 for home pick up or delivery. During peak travel times they may set a baggage policy, but in general passengers are not limited to a number of bags per person.

SuperShuttle accepts reservations from passengers needing shuttle service to or from the airport. SuperShuttle will bring passengers directly to their home, office, or hotel. SuperShuttle can be an inexpensive mode of transportation if enough people share the van. General prices are $25 for the first person and then $7 for each additional passenger.

Limousine Services

Passengers who prefer more private, luxurious transportation will find a number of limousine companies within the area. A few offer specials that bring passengers to or from the airport to downtown Houston for a discounted fee.

Extreme Elegance Limousine Service provides limousines starting at $65 one way. They will bring passengers to downtown Houston, Katy, NASA, Sugarland or Clearlake. There are sedans, stretch limousines, and luxury SUVs for hire.

Galveston Limousine offers limousine service to and from IAH, including door to door transportation for those living in Galveston Island. Limousine service from the airport to many areas costs $40 one way for adults, $35 for seniors, and $20 for children aged four to ten. The limousine limits passengers to two suitcases and one carry-on per passenger. Galveston Limousine is located at the airport and has limos that leave every hour or so.

Taxi Services

While bus service is cheapest, taxi service is usually the most direct and easiest. Taxi dispatchers can be found in the ground transportation zones outside each of IAH's terminals. Fares are dependent on the passenger's destination. A taxi ride to downtown Houston averages $45, while a trip to the Astrodome is around $55. All taxis charge a flat fee of $2.75 to cover airport expenses and then $4 for the first mile and $1.87 for every mile after that. A $1 "late-night fee" is applied for travel between 8pm and 6am. Senior citizens receive a 10% discount. Taxis do charge a $20 per hour fee to passengers who made them wait at the curbside.
