Public/Ground Transfer

National Express buses travel to and from Terminals 1, 3, and 4 and take passengers to Heathrow Airport or Stansted. The ticket price is £17.50 ($35) one way to Heathrow and £15 ($30) one way to Stansted. Travel times range from 1 ½ hours to 2 ¾ hours. For those wanting to take National Express into the city, the rate is £6.20 ($12.40) one-way and the ride takes a little over an hour.

Southern Railway offers trains from Gatwick to Victoria for £9 ($18) one-way. Southern Railway The trains make stops in East Croydon and Clapham Junction, and this can slow the travel time some. For passengers who do not need to rush to meet other trains or buses in Victoria Station, this is an affordable option.

Airport Shuttles

Gatwick Express is the fastest train service to run between Gatwick Airport and Victoria Station. No stops are made between Gatwick and Victoria Station. Monday through Sunday, the trains leave the airport every fifteen minutes from 4:35am to 1:35am, and return to the airport every fifteen minutes from 3:30am to 12:30am. The train ride lasts approximately half an hour. An economy one-way ticket costs approximately £15 ($30) for adults and £7.50 ($15) for children over five. Passengers will find that the trains can accommodate a couple bags per passenger, but tourists should be prepared to have to squeeze the bags into their seating areas or above head storage in most cases. Porters will help with bags to an extent, but only if they have the time.

Limousine Services

For luxurious transportation that offers plenty of leg room following a long flight, limousine service is an excellent choice. A number of limousine companies offer limo service, but reservations must be made in advance. There are no limousine booths within the airport. HireLimoLondon is a favorite with many tourists and their service offers a flat rate of £160 ($320) from Gatwick into London. This rate is good for eight people, eight pieces of luggage, and eight pieces of carry-on baggage. Divided by eight people, limousine service can be far more affordable than taxi service.

Taxi Services

Checker Cars holds an exclusive license to bring passengers from Gatwick Airport to the city. The ride takes a little over an hour and costs £77 ($154) plus an additional £5 ($10) for travel during rush hour. This is a more expensive option, though it can be more convenient for those with lots of luggage. The reservations counter is located in the northernmost entrance of the South Terminal. Taxis have a limit of four passengers and often one bag per passenger.
