Located just about seven miles from downtown, transportation to and from Philadelphia International Airport is fairly quick - most trips take less than 25 or 30 minutes. There are several transportation options, including public transportation, rental cars, shuttles, taxis, limos, and vans or shared rides. Car Rental

More than a half-dozen rental car companies operate at PHL. Rental car counters are located near baggage claim areas in each of the terminals. Reservations are best made in advance.

Public/Ground Transfer

Public transportation is least expensive method for traveling from the airport to downtown (or City Center). Philadelphia's public transportation - SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) - has a high-speed rail line that takes airport travelers to several area locations, including University City and the Philadelphia suburbs. Fares are $5.50 one way, plus $1.50 for connections on SEPTA's regional rail lines.

SEPTA also runs bus lines that accommodate the airport. Routes 37 and 108 can get you to and from the airport into Philadelphia. Fares are $2 one way plus 60 cents for each transfer.

Airport Shuttles

Courtesy shuttles are available at PHL from the economy parking lots to the terminals. Also, there is a courtesy shuttle available for transport between terminals for those needing to catch connecting flights. Also, many area hotels offer free shuttle service. It's advisable to contact your hotel about such service, though information also can be found at the Ground Transportation information desk near baggage claim.

Vans

Shared ride van services can be picked up at Zone 7 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway. One-way rides average about $25-$30 per person with two pieces of luggage and one carry-on. Limousine Services

Sedan and Limousine services can be picked up at Zone 6 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway. There are a number of services that provide transport to and from the airport. Fares will vary depending on destination and the number of passengers, as well as on the type of car you reserve (sedan, stretch, SUV, etc.), but average around $85 for a sedan with three passengers. Taxi Services

Taxis can be picked up outside baggage claim areas near Zone 5 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway. Fares to downtown Philadelphia take about 20 minutes depending on traffic and run $25. This is a flat rate (based on trip, not per person). Note, too, that there is a $10 minimum fare from the Airport to any destination. Other fares are based on the meter and include a flag fee of $2.30 and another $2.10 per mile or portion thereof. There's also an additional $1.50 airport fee. Note, too, that not all taxis will accept credit or debit card payments. If you're in queue for a taxi, be sure to mention it if you'll be paying with plastic.
