Very close to the consulates, embarcadero and BART. Restaurants nearby are good - especially the Grove (comfort food). The building is a somewhat quaint structure. Price was much better than other hotels in the area. Magazines and softcover books about San Francisco were very interesting and helpful. The staff was pleasant.
No A/C during a heat spell was the absolute worst. Windows opened only helped a little and let in a lot of noise. The ice machine only on ground floor was inconvenient. Old building with mediocre maintenance. TINY rooms. The sound proofing of the rooms was nearly non-existent. It was the area of town only that made the room worth the price. This area of San Francisco, which has many 5 star hotels, also has a ton of homeless people, many of them appeared to be mentally ill, which breaks my heart. That was also a jarring environment. SF needs to do more about their homeless population. Not just get them out of sight but take care of them.
Only one elevator for the entire hotel. Very expensive for a very small room. The bathroom and shower are hard to get into them. NO AC. No air condition
They know how to take the reservation. They just don't know how to hold the reservation. I was walked to a neighboring property, but when neighboring is 8 blocks away, it's not so convenient. Chose this hotel entirely on its location.
I loved the feel of the hotel and all of the staff that we met. The front desk staff and concierge in particular went out of their way to be helpful. If a person is looking for a big, ubiquitous-chain-hotel experience, The King George is not the place you want. If you want something more European and personal -- this is your place!
The room that my husband and I were in was VERY small. But we were only staying one night and the decor, the staff and the central location amply made up for the lack of square footage in the room.
Good staff, central area. And reasonable priced.
Room needs two chairs in twin room.
Te location for the city was excellent. It's a block away from Union square and only five or so blocks from BART. The staff was super helpful and nice, they made for a very pleasant experience. We would definitely stay there again.
We could hear our neighbors in the next room when they spoke too loud, and we could hear them in the restroom. One neighbor rung in the new year a little too hard, so hearing her was a bit unsettling. Other than that, it was a positive experience.
Excellent location and service. Great value!
Room a bit small
Bar closed too early
Parking was very expensive, since you have to arrange for your car 30-40 mins before use from the parking lot. Windows did not seal very well (assume single pane), thus noise from street very prominent, even in the early morning hours
Good location, things work
Rather tatty and cramped room
Central position, close to main public transportation.
