For those travelers who prefer to avoid driving their own vehicle into or out of the airport, there are a number of alternate transportation modes. Car RentalThe rental car companies are located on the ground floor of the main terminal on both the west and east sides. There are a number of companies available.
Public/Ground TransferWashington Flyer Coach Service costs only $9 one-way or $16 round-trip. Comfortable, air-conditioned buses will take passengers from the airport to the West Fall's Metro Station where the Metrobus service will then take passengers onward into the city. Washington Flyer buses leave the airport every half hour from 5:45am to 10:15pm during the week and from 7:45am to 10:15pm on Saturday and Sunday. Buses depart Metro Station every half hour. During the week the buses run from 6:15am to 10:45pm and then on Saturday and Sunday from 8:15am to 10:45pm. Tickets for Washington Flyer Coach Service can be purchased in the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Door 4 area and then the bus picks passengers up right outside Door 4 in Arrivals. Call 1-888-WASHFLY or visit www.washfly.com for more information. Metrobus service is then available for a low cost, under $2. Schedules and destinations can be found online at http://www.wmata.com/. Airport ShuttlesFree airport shuttle service is available for passengers needing rides to the parking lots, parking garages, and car rental area, however, there is no free service taking passengers into the city. Super Shuttle call themselves "the nation's leading shared-ride airport shuttle," and their popularity proves the shuttle's effectiveness. They carry an average of eight million passengers every year taking from their hotel, home, or office to Dulles International Airport. Reservations must be made in advance and the cost varies. Prices are as low as possible because passengers will have to wait as additional passengers are picked up in route to the airport. Travelers who are not on a tight schedule will find this is the least expensive and most convenient option. Call 1-800-258-3826 or log on to www.supershuttle.com for more information. Limousine ServicesLimousine service is the most expensive option, but it is also the most comfortable and often the quickest because there are no additional passengers to drop off. A number of companies are available in the Washington D.C. and Dulles area.
Taxi ServicesDulles International Airport is served exclusively by Washington Flyer Taxi. Reservations are never required. Passengers will find the 24-hour taxi booth outside of the main terminal. There are mini-buses with wheelchair lifts that can handle a total of four passengers and one wheelchair. Designated "smoker-friendly" taxi cabs are available by request. Rates (2007) are as follows:
The taxi service will take travelers to Washington D.C., Baltimore, other area airports, and to stops in Virginia, but tourists should remember that the ride will be costly. While this is an easy method for transportation, it is expensive for those going into Washington D.C. A typical trip into Washington D.C. will cost upwards of $55. A trip to Baltimore's BWI Airport costs approximately $115. Get more information on Washington Dulles International Airport
