About Root Down

Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

The food was delicious and inventive. It was a pleasant evening. The wine was good and the wait staff was attentive. We enjoyed our meals a lot and it was a fun place for a birthday celebration. I would have enjoyed my entree a bit more if it was warmer.

We had appetizers in the bar before dinner. Nice sized portions and really good taste. I recommend the tacos. The staff was all very friendly, the beer and food were great! Matt did a great job! He went over the entire menu with us, describing all of the food; even brought us a soup to taste. The carrot soup is not something I would normally order, but after the taste, I highly recommend it! We never felt rushed, and were really relaxed! We loved it!

It was just ok during restaurant week. Price was steep compared to meal. Best feature is the complementary valet parking. Cocktails are imaginative and tasty. Service was average to below average, which was especially disappointing as you could tell they were trying. All in all, just ok in a sea of amazing food destinations around Denver.

Love this place, but it is noisy and crowded. The food just keeps getting better. The list of wines by the glass is varied and affordable. The Sunday brunch is particularly good. If you need to talk with others at your table, ask for a table in the back room behind the hostess station.

The food was good except for duck fat fingerling potatoes that were served to us raw. When I brought it up to manager she offered to send some home, but I found out they weren't even the same potatoes. I was so excited to try them and was very disappointed in the quality as well as their 'resolution' to the problem.

We love this restaurant. But with all the problems we are faced with here in Denver and on our native soil, why are they asking for donations for Syrian refugees? Maybe try helping Americans and our homeless and veterans first. Until they change this, we will not be eating at or referring anyone to this establishment.

Unfortunately, although most of the food (especially the areas and lamb sliders) were good, my boyfriend and I got food poisoning from our roasted chicken dish because I'm afraid it was undercooked. We were up all night vommitting, and it was clear when it came up that the chicken was extremely pink. I feel as though this was an honest mistake due to the business of the evening dinner crowd, the dimly lit table we were seated at, and the skin still being on the chicken which I'm sure made it more difficult for the cooks to assess whether it had been cooked completely through, but it was still disappointing. Especially for the steep price that we paid. The wine and ambiance of the evening were fantastic, however! I just wish the food hadn't made us so sick.

This is tough. Root Down is a wildly successful place and has been for about a decade I think. Went once before, upon moving back to Denver, for their Sunday dinner and liked it though felt portions were on the small side. No bread to fill you up either. OK, it's specially priced so portions might be smaller. So, went back again, ordered a la carte off the menu (when we finally saw a waiter that is). Same thing. For the price-point, small portions. No bread and shouldn't leave spending over $100 and be hungry. Yes, the food is wonderful, the presentation fantastic but so, too, for many others in town. Mizuna for example. Barolo Grill for another. On another level, had noted on the Open Table reservation that it we would be celebrating a birthday. After being sat, I quietly mentioned that to the host who then brought over a signed (not personalized; they are generic) card. Left it on the table, even made mention to the waiter in requesting one minor change on a dish. Saw many other tables get small cake with a candle. Not so us. Minor thing but again, for the price-point, it is poor value-for-money. Twice was enough; won't be back.

We enjoyed brunch there on a Friday. I had the Huckleberry French Toast. Unfortunately, it was lukewarm when it got to the table. I told the waitress and she said they would make me another portion. I told her it could just be heated up, but she insisted it would be a new entrée. The manager stopped by and apologized for the food being cold and immediately comped my entrée. I tried to tell her that wasn't necessary, but she insisted. The second one was hot and yummy. My dining companions had the breakfast burrito and the pulled port omelet and they were both happy with their selections. We were able to sit and visit for awhile after brunch and didn't feel rushed out. I will go back.

No matter how often we come to RootDown, we are always freshly surprised at how great the food is. This time, we brought two couples from out of town, and they couldn't stop raving--about the onion tart, the lentil soup ('the best I've ever had,' said our guest, who wanted the recipe), the lamb, and on and on. Another of our guests said he had never in his life had a better meal. Now that is something....

Brunch on Thursday? Breakfast at noon? Bad menu for lunch, poorly executed crappy egg sandwich was runny instead of medium, stinky lox on a dry bagel. Ugh! Expensive. Better egg sandwich at Mc D's for 25% cost! Wasnt the server's fault.

We ate at Root Down while visiting Denver. The drinks where unique and tasty...we stayed with the delicious mixed drinks because the wine list was only OK. We brought our two small children and they had little kids activity pack for them. They loved the mac-n-cheese...and I do believe theirs was one of the better kids mac-n-cheese. Our meals where great. We've eaten at some the finest restaurants in the states and this was very good! (Mushroom truffle, yellow squash gnocchi, trout and lamb) Lastly we did save room for the brownie desert which was wonderful! Service was great. They were very attentive and personable.

Root Down says that they change their menu often, but it seems like it's been the same since the place opened. I guess the Korean Short Ribs were new, but they were also tough and the flavors were not that great. The drinks haven't changed either, but they are really good - probably the best feature of this restaurant. Basically, this used to be THE PLACE in town, but now there are a lot of other options, and Root Down needs to up their game. On a side note, Vital Root on Tennyson, owned by the same group is amazing food, but they need better drink options - terrible beer choice - gluten free beer? What's the point, especially if it's bad.

We were so disappointed in the food (brunch) on Sat, 1/21/17 and we had been anticipating eating there for sometime. It was going to be a highlight of our Saturday but both meals were not good at all for the price and the hype of Root Down. We do not intend on going back. Decaf coffee was cold and service was slow. Burritto was so hard to cut the server had to bring me a steak knife and not tasty at all, potatoes cold. Very disappointed.

The last few times I've been there for brunch and this time was the same. My crab cake eggs Benedict, which was otherwise delicious, came out luke warm. This used to be my very favorite restaurant in Denver. Sad to say, it is progressively going downhill. My last visit was not at all good---cold fries, servers not knowing menu ingredients and not even knowing their restaurant has a separate fryer for celiacs made me never want to go back. I recently tried Root Down at DIA, and the poor experience there further confirmed that I will not be going back to either location for a very long time. Had similar experiences with servers not knowing enough about the menu ingredients and celiac precautions with Linger and Ophelias so I always felt good about Root Down, but it just seemed to morph into just another restaurant claiming to cater to those with allergies.

We have loved this restaurant for brunch for a long time. When we arrived this Friday, with a reservation, we were sat in the 'private' dining area that had another table already sitting (3 people) and a large table set up to sit about 14 people. This seating is very strange. Why would anyone sit a two-top with a table of 14 people in an enclosed area - we felt like we were animals at the zoo. Of course as soon at the large party arrived it became loud and obnoxious.\n\nWe ordered the Reuben and the Fried Chicken - two items we've never ordered before. To start I had the Apple Cider and the Lemon Blueberry Scone. The scone was average, the cider very nice and perfect for a cold day.\n\nThe service from the waitress was lackluster, and we've never experienced this before. She seemed too important to be waiting on us!\n\nThe food was very good, until several hours later when we both spent too much time in the bathroom. We've eaten here many times and this stomach upset is something we've never experienced, and don't want to again. Based on this, we won't be returning.

Service was great and attentive, Unfortunately, the food was mediocre. The squash gnocchi was dry. The flavor was there , but somehow the pasta was so dry that it gave the impression that it must have been sitting somewhere on a counter for awhile. The lamp chops were done well , but smothered in a barbecue type sauce that drowned out the flavor of the meat. The short ribs were done in a brisket type fashion and were not very tender. Again the accompanying sauce did nothing to enhance the flavor , but detracted from it,\nWe had been impressed with their brunch and wanted to try out the dinner. Everyone was very nice, but the food did not live up to expectations. Sorry.

From the very minute we pulled on to the Root Down property, service was through the room amazing. The valet attendant quickly helped us get my mother-in-law out of the car, and into her wheel chair. The host (a man with dark glasses- I did not catch his name) talked to us about where we could wait to be seated. Once he noticed that we were able to get her from the wheelchair to a seat, he quickly sat us. We were greeted with so much energy, enthusiasm, and hospitality by your server Chris (Blonde hair/Glasses). He was phenomenal. We ordered a round of drinks and began to discuss the menu. Once our drinks were delivered he spoke more in-depth about the menu. When we were torn he helped us pick the perfect portions, and perfectly timed out EACH item. Chris had so much personality and charm, but also gave us plenty of space to enjoy our meal just the three of us. He was quick to pick up on dietary restrictions immediately, and worked with us. From an appetizer, to salads to our main course every aspect was on point. It is not everyday where the experience reminds of the times before my mother-in-law’s disability. She continued to talk about root down all evening, and all morning. Your staff helped paint the perfect picture of Denver.

The first time we went to Root Down we really enjoyed dinner. We decided to go back for dinner Christmas eve. I ordered the Korean BBQ short ribs, it tasted good but the meat was lukewarm. It seemed like it had been sitting under heat lamp. I had ordered a drink before dinner, Moscow Mule and it tasted like lime, there was such a strong lime taste I didn't taste the ginger at all. \nIt was kind of a let down from our first time dining there. I would recommend the restaurant but with caution.

We started off with scallops and shared the kale salad. Next we had the arepas. For dinner my wife had her favorite kashmiri chicken and I had the Korean short rib. Everything was presented well and brought out perfectly timed. Portions on the dinner menu can vary greatly so it is good to ask should you be on the severely hungered side or not.\nWe had a great time as always. We have done Christmas Eve dinner here for about 4 years running now. The menu and the great service never disappoint. Several things change on the menu keeping it fresh and new. Some things stay that we've always enjoyed. \nWas not entirely stoked about the small middle room seating. Awkward low back booth style seating and a little cramped.

Our waiter (wish I could remember his name) was incredibly nice and sweet as can be! He was wearing a nifty fedora-type hat, and continued to check in every other 5 minutes when we needed drinks, more food, etc. Seriously, he was so dang great! The food was absolutely exquisite as well! My finance has worked at several Denver restaurants and thinks Root Down is his favorite. I couldn't agree more! Was so disappointed with our Sunday Brunch at Root Down this past week. Normally I love their food and their service. Unfortunately, the completely missed the mark this past week starting with our coffee and tea that they couldn't get right. (Very surprising I know) The food was also not as memorable as it normally is. The service was beyond poor and I was so surprised as one would think that given the high demand of this restaurant that they would be able to hire exceptional service help. Won't be back for a bit as I was so disappointed.

I always love Root Down. We had great service and a great table. I ordered the breakfast burrito, but it was on the dry side. The tortilla was dry with a single slice of cheese melted over it and the black beans were slightly undercooked. The mole sauce was good, but did not provide enough moisture to the bite. Given that it's Root Down, I expected a little more creativity in the flavors and texture. \nI will be back though! I always have a good meal and good service at Root Down.

Caution - if you get a table on the patio as I did (I made no special request) and it rains, as it did when I was there, there is no 'fall back' plan. It was actually quite odd. We had just ordered drinks - which were very good - and the rain started. The waiter approached, I believed to ask if we wanted to move inside as there were visible empty tables, but to my surprise he began to go over the menu. My date was shocked. We got more and more wet until I interrupted and asked to be moved. They said we could go to the bar if we wanted. \n\nOverall food was very good. Approach to client satisfaction not so good.

Amazing experience from the service to our food. Our server Bill gave the best recommendations which were delicious. We had green chilli soup which had a nice kick and beer salad with an interesting beet pesto. Then the arepas's was the best item we both ate the entire night. The for entrees we had the short rib with kimchi and the butternut gnocchi. If we did not share the arepas both of these dishes would have been in first place. Cant wait to try their sister restaurant Linger tomorrow night.

Beautiful space packed on an early Sunday afternoon. Took 10-15 minutes before the server took our drink order. Did not enjoy either the pulled pork omelette or the crab cakes Benedict. Both were dry (omelette eggs were cooked to cardboard) and flavorless and came with a lot of potatoes that were obvious holdovers from earlier and a big 'salad' of arugula dressed in lemon juice. The ramen deviled eggs were OK, but definitely not worth $13. No refills offered on the coffee. Won't be back.

I took my family to Root Down for brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. Food was amazing. We got a little Halloween treat for free at the end. Restaurant is loud enough that two small kids weren't a problem (I wouldn't have tried this at dinner but brunch is more casual there). I would love to go there again but maybe leave the kids at home next time, so I could enjoy the meal more :)

I used to love this place, but after this visit I doubt I'll be back. We waited over a month for a reservation, when we got there they stuck us in a corner on the patio with a huge draft. Our server took 30-45 min to check on us each time. When our drinks were delivered they just sat them down without saying what they were. When our entrees were delivered my husband was missing a fork and it took nearly 10 min for the server to check on us, so when he got a fork I had already finished my meal and his was cold. We asked for a drink menu to get a second cocktail, but that too didn't get to us until well after our entrees. The food was ok, but prices have gone up significantly, and it's not THAT good. Seems like Root Down has given up and is riding on it's previously acquired status recognition.

Little did we know, the but owner/manager likes to be in touch with the guests; he acts out the part of the server!!! He was a little astonished when I told him it really wasn't good, but IT WAS FANTASTIC! Our assigned server really took pains to get the detailed answers to questions. I tend to be a bit difficult with my dietary needs (no wheat, no preservatives, no pesticide laden conventional foods to name a few) and was totally taken care of. We came by the last reservation of the night on the afternoon of our visit - so make reservations early! Although we had to put up with a rush hour drive from the south metro 'burbs to the Highlands to make our early evening reservation, it was totally worth it and we all decided we would like to visit ROOT DOWN for another meal.

We went there for Sunday Brunch. At first we were impressed because we had a reservation, but when we got there we asked if we could sit on the patio, we were quickly accommodated. And that is when the let downs started and quickly spiraled out of control. We waited for a long time (to put it in perspective, we both knew, after much deliberations, what we wanted) before the server appeared with waters. On top of it, our server greeted the table next to us first which was seated well after we were. I asked for the bottomless mimosa, which was served in a 16 oz pint glass. Not classy at all, and it was flat before the server took our order. I probably don't need to go into details any more about the time that passed before we received our drinks, and the additional time before the server finally got back to take our food order. We both ordered the avocado crab cake Benedict. The food was average at best. While there was enough crab in the crab cakes, that was the only saving grace to the meal. The eggs were not poached right, one of my eggs still had runny egg whites, and my husband's eggs were overcooked. The ever so enticing Creole hollandaise tasted like no eggyolks or butter were harmed in the process of making the sauce, and the Tasso ham chips advertised on the menu consisted of one sad inch piece of fried ham not lending enough salt to the mystery cream sauce. Over all, the dish lacked acidity and salt. We were so ready to leave after finishing our plates, but you might have guessed by this time, we had to wait a while to get the server to pick up the credit card. We took another minute or so before we left to enjoy the beautiful weather and the views when our server quickly appeared to collect our signed credit card slip. The first sense of urgency we saw from him. Overall not worth the money.

We have visited here quite a few times when we have come to see our kids who live in Denver, the food and service have always been amazing until Mother's day. They changed how they served the food, which I was not happy about, my salad that I have enjoyed in the past was soaked under my fried chicken, and the chicken was not as good as it has been in the past either. The Mimosa's were excellent, but even the 'daily Baked good' was toast...really folks, this is mother's day and toast with Jam hardly is a 'baked good', overall I was a bit disappointed, and so was my family.

Have always loved Root Down in the past. Raved about the food. This time, food just did not seem remarkable. Also, this time around, the service was simply awful and left a bad taste in our mouths (no pun intended). The server was nice enough, but not attentive - we sat for way too long waiting to order and for our drink orders to arrive. We ordered share plates and these arrived one at a time, with spells of empty plates in between. The bus service took away used plates and silverware during these interludes and then, when the next plate finally arrived, we had no plates or silverware. Still waiting for the clean replacements and had to nab a random busser for help. Root Down can do much better -- but we are not especially eager for our next visit.

I remembered Root Down to be a fantastic experience where the food was worth the price point. Unfortunately, my most recent trip left a lot to be desired and therefore, left me feeling that I over paid. I am someone to weights a dining experience heavily on the food; ambiance has very little sway with me. Root Down garnered this less than stellar review with an overly-hyped label because the quality of the food did not match the prices.\n\nWe started with the butternut squash gnocchi that was not worth the price of $18. The gnocchi had pieces of butternut squash mixed in but the gnocchi itself was a bland in flavor and limp in texture; not at all the tender, pillow-like texture of great gnocchi. I would not have minded this if it didn't cost $18.\n\nI ordered the Steelhead trout entree and it came with roasted root vegetables. The trout was quite good but the vegetables should have either been cooked more thoroughly or cooked by a different method. They were quite hard and the Brussels sprouts (yes, it's spelled this way) were burnt. The chorizo and mustard seed flavors were also lost in the mix. For a $29 dish that comes with a large portion of the accompanying side, the roasted vegetables should have been better.\n\nThe chocolate vegan ice cream was quite good for a vegan ice cream.\n\nThe service was fantastic and the ambiance was nice as always and so the overall experience was fair. I am hesitant to return to Root Down due to the disappointing food though.

The other tables around us were enjoying themselves too and started holding a conversation with us too- how fun! It was overall a great atmosphere. We were visiting Denver, planning for one great meal, this wasn't it :( We chose Root Down strictly by reviews and it totally disappointed. The menu was complicated, with ingredients that were unfamiliar and went with recommendations by our waiter. Appetizer was awesome and then it went down hill quickly. When the waiter checked on us, we politely told him that between the three of us, we would not be eating one of the 'shared dishes'. I had hope that he might offer an exchange or compensation, only three bites were missing but he didn't. From that point on he basically ignored us, up to and including processing our payment which in itself took so long (10+minutes) that I began to get nervous about my credit card.\nFood was colorful and enticing, but flavors did not mix well, consistency was odd. We are three middle aged ladies, who enjoy eclectic food and new experiences, well at least until now. Valet parking was a perk and necessary. Patio was nice, inside was quite dark. We tip generously, only because we are in the food service industry ourselves, this visit did not earn it.

I have loved this restaurant for years & it has been my favorite restaurant for a long time. I have recommended it to friends, taken visiting family from out of town there, celebrated my 50th birthday there but my visit on Saturday was a real misstep for Root Down.\n\nThe menu was mediocre, the food was mediocre, the service was ridiculously bad. Our order was forgotten, everyone around us got there food before us & had sat down after us. My veggie sliders were not anything to write home about & didn't have a delicate balance of flavor that I have always enjoyed at Root Down. My sister's pancakes were so tough she had to use a butter knife to cut them. The manager did take the price off our tab for the pancakes, & that was appreciated but only after telling us they were her favorite thing on the menu & seemed shocked and incredulous that we would complain about them.\n\nAll in all I feel badly because I don't think I'll return, to what was once my favorite restaurant.

The food and ambiance at Root Down are excellent. The only criticism I have was that we had a 7:15 reservation but we could not be seated when we arrived because some customers were refusing to leave the table that they had reserved for us. It took much longer than it should have to fix the problem. We were eventually shown to another seat which was awful (it was a table placed half inside and half outside the restaurant under what appeared to be a garage door), but luckily for us the couple at our table, which was a cozy booth in the bar area, finally agreed to leave. You can't rely on a little clock on the table that says 'reserved for 7:15' to make people vacate a table. Be more assertive on behalf of your customers with reservations.

We had a large party and we seated quickly at our reserved table. Service was good, the cocktails were amazing. My heirloom tomato small plate was pretty green and tough...for the money I did not think it was great. Short ribs were tender and terrific however as were the lamb. Overall, a very nice experience.

We have been to Root Down many times, but this past weekend we went there for Sunday brunch for this first time. There were four of us and we ordered four different items from the brunch menu. They were all incredible. Our server was Frank and he was very, very good. Always anticipated a need, was knowledgeable, understanding and nice...and he delivered service that was on par with the food...which is saying something because the food was great. The casual style in which he delivers this level of service is excellent and it is very comfortable...no pretentious foodie/server crap with Frank! He's the real deal.

This is a fabulous restaurant. Welcoming staff, attentive service, unique and delicious food. Vibrant feel. Felt like every single staff person was happy to see us AND happy to be working there. We were THRILLED, until time for the bathrooms, which have wavy glass doors through which you can see shapes, clothing colors, skin tones and movements (but, happily, not details) of the folks within. Kind of creepy when you pass each other in the hall. Suggest they paint the glass. But cool water re-use system in there!

OVERRATED! Food is ok, but I don´t really know what the big deal is with this place; we had a reservation and they took like 20 minutes to sit us when they had plenty of empty tables; MANY MANY better options in Denver than coming here, the menu is short, not so many choices and food is simply ok, nothing special; I would definitely suggest dining elsewhere. Although the experience was simply ok, I won´t come back and don´t recommend ROOT DOWN.

As always, our food was delicious. Our disappointment was with the server, and this has been a pattern during our last several visits to Root Down. The server was very friendly, but rushed and inattentive. He took our order, brought our drinks, and disappeared. This time it was worse, because it took 45 minutes for our food to appear. Naturally we were curious, but it wasn't always easy to find the server. When he did stop by, he repeated 'two minutes' each time without checking. He offered us nothing in the way of making up for the inconvenience. A manager-type stopped by later and asked how we'd enjoyed the meal. We complained about the 45 minutes. He bought us an $8 dessert to share. He also let us know that the food had been delayed because the chicken had to be cooked from the raw state. As opposed to cooked from a non-raw state?

This place has wonderful food. I was disappointed we were not able to sit on the patio despite calling in advance, arriving early, and being told upon check in that it would not be an issue. The inside of the restaurant is noisy otherwise and it can be hard to hear even at your own table. That said, the food is/was worth our hour drive.

We had bottomless blood orange mimosas with our brunch - we sat on the patio looking back at the city. This was a fabulous meal - I didn't eat the rest of the day. Went to Root Down for my 30th Birthday dinner as recommended by a friend. Menu was just as described, Farm to Table and the food was outstanding. The restaurant itself was extremely loud and service wasn't nearly as good as the food. We didn't receive any acknowledgement of my birthday, didn't get our drink order for at least 10 minutes after sitting down. We almost got up and left. Once our drink order was taken it took another 10ish minutes to receive the drinks and so forth with other request. We saw our server socializing with other staff. We had a confirmed reservation made weeks in advance, when we arrived we were told a table was being cleared for us. After a 35 minute wait our party of four was seated at a tiny table that would have been tight for two people in the middle of the restaurant, practically on top of the surrounding tables. We shared 7 plates and desert between us; the scallops and the Devils on horseback were both great, while everything else fell flat. Our waitress was great and the service was very good, but I think the hype far exceeded reality.

Root Down came highly recommended to my husband and I when planning our trip to Denver. It is a vibrant, hipster scene...tends toward the loud side, but very fun and happening. Housed in an old gas station, the decor is part retro, part repurposed. The staff, especially the host, were so helpful and accommodating. I have several food intolerances and they were right on top of it making suggestions and making sure the kitchen was informed. The food itself was impeccably presented and incredibly farm-fresh and flavorful. Very innovative and plenty of vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options. I do not eat meat, but tables near us had it, and I must say it looked good and I heard positive feedback about it. This is a busy spot, so whether or not you are going for brunch or dinner, reservations are highly recommended.

The only critique I would have for this Valentine's night dinner was the special dessert they had was just ok. It was a beet infused red velvet cake with whipped cream on the side. We had a friend in town who loves good, interesting food, and we had heard very good things about Root Down as well as Linger. I had been to Linger previously and thought the menu was all over the place so I was excited to try Root Down because it seems to have a better sense of what exactly it is based on the menu. While the cocktails and appetizers were good, the main courses were terribly/overly spiced to cover up the natural flavors in the food. Each of our dishes basically tasted the same because of the spices. My friend commented that maybe the chef was off that night (a Sunday). I was really disappointed because he was taking us out to say thanks for a place to stay while he was in town for a brewers convention, and we suggested Root Down, so it called into question my taste, which isn't a fun feeling in the current hipster foodie environment! So likely won't go again for dinner because Denver has too many places to try, but might end up there for drinks and an appetizer at some point.

It was my wife's birthday and one of her favorite restaurants. We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed taking our time, enjoying conversation & our bottle of Pinot Noir. The only suggestion I have is, like most restaurants we've dined in Metro Denver, when dishes have been enjoyed and completed by the guest, they should be removed right away. It seems dishes are left on tables long after they have been finished. The key is for the server to be aware of when someone has enjoyed as much as they want and are done with the dish.

Root Down is lucky to employ the talent and creativity of Chef Corey Ferguson, who has consistently provided us with spectacular dining experiences and impeccable service every time we go there. Everything on the menu there is always fresh and changing with the seasons. Root Down is our go-to restaurant whenever we have colleagues in town who we're looking to impress. Hands down the best restaurant in Denver!

Root Down is one of my favorite places in Denver. It was restaurant week and I met some girlfriends here to partake in the great offers. I never tire of the carrot soup starter and love how they mix it up, depending on season. I also love that you can have still or sparkling water for your table water. I don't know of any other place in Denver that does this.\nMy chocolate dessert was to die for, their desserts usually are.\nI'd recommend and will return.

Six of us out for a monthly dinner (and birthday this time). Two of our friends have celiac disease and two others eat clean. Lots of options for gluten free.\n\nMost importantly, food was fantastic. Great and different from everyday items. \nPepper blossom drink was a huge hit. Eight ordered between the six of us along with their Beet Down and other drinks (we may have indulged a lot).\n\nMust try the Devils on Horseback and Seared Colombian Arepas. We ordered entrees, but went head over heals for the small and share plates. I think we spent almost three hours drinking eating and having an amazing evening.\n\nWe plan on going back soon.\nUse the valet parking, it can be difficult to find a place to park in the area and the valet was super easy, fast, convenient and courteous.

Love Rootdown. I come here mostly for special occasions. The food was fantastic, service pretty good though as much as it seemed like there were many servers they were a bit slow for a couple drinks. The server did not seem to really know the very short wine by the glass list and some of the wines were weak. The sommelier stepped in and found something offering to serve what we wanted from one of the bottles and we just pay for what we drank.

I have to say, I have had great experiences at Root Down but the last time I was there was probably the best experience I have had at any restaurant yet. I went with my parents who were visiting and my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and not one moment was a disappointment. We had a reservation but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes to sit down. The managers and staff were apologetic and incredibly attentive and our server, once we did sit down, was just on it! She was funny, knowledgeable and full of helpful recommendations. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful and the food was just superb! My mom is still talking about the Chocolate Bombe! Dined here with my parents while they were in town. The food was good overall. We got the devils on horseback, corn risotto, scallops, chicken, flatiron steak, and pork tenderloin. The devils on horseback and the corn were both good starters and the chicken and pork were solid entrees. The pork was perfectly cooked and super tender and the scallops were the best bite we had. The steak was badly under-cooked (we asked for medium rare and it was barely rare) and when paying over $30 for a small portion of steak, I expect it to be perfect. The server was nice, though a little quirky, but the meal dragged on. It took between 90-120 minutes to eat our meals, and that's without any dessert.\n\nThe food was also pretty pricey, especially considering the portions are not large at all, but that is kind of expected at a restaurant like that. It's a place for foodies and you'll often get smaller portions of perfectly executed or elegantly plated food. Still, the bill came out to $200 with tax and tip and only one drink and those entrees and we all left a little hungry.\n\nOverall, while it was not bad by any means, I'm not sure it lives up to the hype and don't see myself going back any time soon when there are so many other delicious and exciting options in the area.

We had a family get together at Root Down, all adults. They sat us outside where the legroom was better and we browsed our way slowly through the menu. Drinks were excellent & they have a large selection of wines by the glass so wine drinkers are accommodated like the beer drinkers. Each dish was delivered promptly & devoured - SO delicious! Our lone vegan found plenty to eat & the vegan food is so good that anyone would be pleased by it. As soon as our dishes were empty, the wait staff made them magically disappear & our waitress arrived for the next round. The service here is truly outstanding! I recommend you come with at least 4 people in your group so you can try a lot of different dishes at once, easily the best way to sample this restaurant.

Our first visit to Root Down after hearing good things ever since moving to Denver in December. Braised Endive was a nice combo of flavors and textures. The Oregon Wild Caught Albacore Tuna Crudo small plate was tasty but way too small. I think there were two or three thin slices of tuna. The Roasted Kashmiri Chicken with kale and grit cake was divine. We shared this one entree. \nService here is outstanding! Matt took our order but we were checked on by the general manager, plates delevered and were cleared by three different people. My drink came a little late (not a big deal at all!) so they didn't charge me for it. And our dessert - Banana Crème Brûlée Pie - was also on the house after we mentioned it was our anniversary and it was excellent. Note: It comes with a coffee liqueur on the bottom of the plate that's not listed in the description. My wife does not drink so upon confirmation that there was alcohol in the sauce they replaced the dessert with a new one without it. \nWe can't wait to go back and try the Kale and Pea salad and the Tofu Korma. Well done, Root Down!

We enjoyed our meal. We were a group of 4 colleagues in town for a conference. The fun vibe and positive energy of the place were really a nice way to wind down after a busy day. And no one rushed us out and we were able to complete some business. \n\nIt was fun to look at the menu and build our meal together. We shared a bunch of things. \n\nMeal was good. A couple of things were lip smacking but mostly we were left under whelmed . Given the reviews we'd expected to be blown away. We just weren't. It feels as though many dishes are overly ambitious. Too many ingredients sometimes. They need to do some editing here and then. But menu was totally original and we all agreed that we loved new tastes and admired the creativity. Fresh flavors in interesting combinations. But we did not leave with oohs and ahs and sadness that we did not live close by and able to return. \n\nJust a bit over hyped. Lower expectations a bit and enjoy. \n\nService was excellent. Warm friendly and competent. And decor was great fun Recommended. But not on my ' greatest hits' list.

WE had read Open Table reviews of Root Down and were prepared for a wonderful evening of dining. Remember the fable about the emperor that really was naked, but because he was so important, everyone pretended he had glorious clothes on. This concept applies to Root Down. The noise level made it impossible to carry on even a minimal conversation. Our waiter just appeared and with no greeeting or welcome waited for us to welcome him. Finally after he had stood there awhile, I asked for a cocktail. He never once checked back after our dinner was served to see how our meals were. If he had, I would have reported that my halibut ($31 instead of $26 for the large portion) was cold and I probably had three bites to eat. Unbelievable. Our waiter was too ironic and cool to care about us at all. My green bean salad was a mush of stuff I couldn't identify. And here is the kicker: Our meal for 3 was $280: poor service, mediocre food, and loud, loud, loud. The emperor indeed had no clothes!

I have been a fan of Root Down for many years. Whenever I traveled to Denver I would always try and reserve a table. I have been a group of 6+ people and a quiet dinner with my wife. As someone who follows a plant based diet I am always pleased with the creative menu options. My wife and brother/sister in-law enjoyed a delightful evening and we are all talking about the next visit. Highly recommend Root Down.

The first thing I noticed walking in was the Host didn't bother to look up when we walked in and greet us. And then we were sat right by the patio door which was open. Being 8 months pregnant I was extremely hot the entire meal and in hindsight I should have asked to move but was trying to be polite. There were several empty tables in the restaurant. Our server was great and food was great. Just didn't appreciate the heat. Something to consider is asking someone if they want to be that close to outside especially when it is 100 degrees out.

One of the diners had soapy film and taste on his asparagus. Two people suffered gastrointestinal problems after the meal. The only pluses were the waiter - very efficient but didn't adjust the bill and they provided complimentary champagne when we arrived.

Server was very attentive and well versed in both the menu items and their preparation. The pastry of the day - Zucchini bread with peach preserves to start was perfect, lightly toasted, warm, delicious with French Press coffee. The fried chicken and biscuits, with mushroom gravy, is perfect. Great flavor, super crispy. The only issue was that the tips of the children filets were a bit over cooked. No room for dessert but there'll certainly be room for the Bourbon bread pudding next time.

This was the worst experience we have had at Root Down. The kitchen was very slow and our dinner/appetizers took forever even though we arrived at 5:15 PM. The server was embarrassed for the length and then one entre came out incorrectly... We love this restaurant but this one was tough especially being with clients and we were almost late for a 8:15 PM start time for Bruce Springsteen,. Yup - 3 hours......

We arrived hot and thirsty on a very warm evening. Unfortunately we didn't know that the restaurant would be open to the outdoors, so a/c relief was not to be found. The manager brought complimentary sparkling wine and was as nice as she could be apologizing for how warm it was. We decided to order just a cold salad and to have dinner someplace cool. Salad was wonderful! Just as we finished it and asked for the check, another person brought a halibut entree, claiming it was 'made in error' so would be complimentary. Again, fantastic food prepared with care. The management bent over backwards to make us happy about something they couldn't control; us being uncomfortably hot. I would return in a heartbeat but dress appropriately (t shirt and skirt)!

We enjoyed brunch starting with blood orange mimosa & bloody mary's . I tried the huevos ranchero benedict. I'm not a runny yolk eater so I asked for the egg to be hard. Mine came fried hard which is interesting in a benedict. Hubby had meatloaf (special of the day) he enjoyed it. Another friend at our table also had the meatloaf yet asked for a side of greens(never received) after realizing it wasn't served with a vegetable. Fourth entree veggie sliders very tasty and nicely presented. The table also shared a 'Chocolate Bomb' which was fabulous. Great fresh food but service was a bit inconsistent.

We got to try Root Down during Denver Restaurant Week and enjoyed the special menu. The food was amazing and unforgettable. The value was stunning. We had a very early reservation, which turned out to be in our favor. Watching dusk come on and the lights of the city skyline come up as the subtle lighting emerged in the restaurant left me feeling as if I had found Brigadoon.\n\nThe staff were warm and welcoming, genuinely enjoying how much I was reveling in the evening. By the end of our meal my partner and I were planing our return and who we would bring with us.\n\nWe have found a new favorite, I just wish it had not taken us so long to find Root Down.

Based on the reviews I read, this visit had to achieve a high standard. Root Down delivered!\n\nWe arrived early but were seated immediately. Our waitress could not have been better - attentive, knowledgeable and efficient. A friend had a lot of questions about the menu and she know everything about each dish on the menu. \n\nThis was a Sunday dinner where they have a 3 course $30 dinner. Quite a bargain. Everyone in our party added a course from the regular menu. The beet soup was outstanding - the beets became an earthy, cold soup. No attempt to sweeten them or cover their natural flavor. Just perfect.\n\nAfter the meal, we had to order a few extra truffles and caramels. Again, very worthwhile addition to the meal.\n\nThe weather was beautiful and we somewhat envied the guests who had seats on the outdoor balcony. \n\nNext time in Denver, I'll definitely make another reservation to eat here.

I just loved the ginger coconut fizz. My chicken was seasoned just right. The veggie sliders were crispy. But food was slow to come out and my fork's tines were crooked, both salad and dinner forks. It's a pet peeve I have. My husband's tines were crooked too so I didn't bother to ask for new forks. It was loud as well even with the patio doors wide open.

This is a great spot in the summer. We ate early evening (5:15pm) and were seated right next to the patio with the garage door up so it was just like being on the patio. Great ambiance. Our experience at Root Down was exceptional. The decor is very quirky. The first thing that caught my eye was the wall of can bottoms. The service was friendly and very, very attentive. We selected several shared plates and loved them all. My favorite was the Devils on horseback. It was a wonderful flavor experience. Dessert was avocado key lime pie and bread pudding with 4 forks. We found this on Yelp. The entire night was a great experience. My wife and I met a colleague from New Orleans there.\n\nFirst, every single person we came in contact with was gracious; knowledgeable and down right friendly. That always makes the evening better. That alone gives me pleasure. (I hate when your presence is annoying to the staff.)\n\nNow the food. The portions were not huge but the entire meal was the perfect size. We left happily full. We went during restaurant week and got the three course for $30 per person. I started with soup, and wanted to lick the bowl. (and would have but I try to behave in public.)\n\nThe pork chop was perfectly cooked, delicious and beautifully presented. (I can say perfect about every other word) and the pear dessert was awesome.\n\nOn the way home my wife wanted us to go back the next evening. Five out of five; ten out of ten. This is a must go.\n\nThey have two other sister locations in Denver, I am looking to go to both. (writing this made me hungry)

I have been to Root Down before so this time I brought an out of town friend for their brunch. Every time I come to Root Down I actually forget it's 10 times better than I remember it! My friend was blown away! The food is PERFECT! We were all saying (there were 3 of us) that they don't have salt or pepper on the table because everything is seasoned perfectly and you wouldn't want to change a thing! The drinks were fantastic. The vibe was fun, hip and relaxed. The service was exceptional, as usual! Not only was our waiter attentive to us, the manager stopped by to check on us and someone who I am assuming is the assistant manager followed up right after him along with multiple servers picking up any ques if we needed water, another drink, our empty plates removed. Once again, ZERO complaints and all the praise I can write in this small box. I will be back again and again and again and again...

We were able to get a last-minute reservation and were fortunate enough to get patio seating. Everything was very good, just some minor quirks that makes them only a little less stellar. Our soups were served at different times, then we had additional food show up that we didn't have any room for on our table. We were transferred to another server at the end, and while we offered to order one more drink and settle up with the original server, he assured us the closing server would take care of it. But getting that last drink and the wait to settle up made us wish we could've gone with our original offer.

This was my second visit to Root Down this year. It's fantastic that the restaurant is always busy and buzzing with lots of patrons. Unfortunately, neither of the times I've dined have I felt like I could truly relax and enjoy my meal. When seated in the middle of the dining area (both times - even with advance reservations), personal space is somewhat restricted. Tables are positioned tightly to allow for maximum seating. While this is great for driving more revenue for the restaurant, it's not very comfortable for patrons. Also, when I received my entree and took the first bite, I found my brunch entree was a bit on the cold side. I didn't take the time to point out this issue to our server, as I was really hungry and wanted to dive right in - nor did I want to annoy my guests. I had the 'Root Down Benedict' and added Canadian bacon. The dish was very flavorful and unique. I was a bit puzzled as to why the Canadian bacon wasn't actually layered/incorporated into the benedict and was folded alongside the quinoa cakes. I guess I could have taken in upon myself to fix that. Regardless, it was yummy! We also enjoyed the bottomless blood orange mimosas. It would be nice if these were served chilled, instead of being replenished from pitchers that have been sitting out in the open without any refrigeration. I fully realize adding ice would water down the beverage. I'm big fan of having cold things served cold and hot things served hot.

The popularity of Root Down amazes me; we were there on a rainy Monday evening and the place was quite busy. While the ambiance of a converted gas station is low, the food is excellent. We shared empanadas, which made a fine start for the evening meal. The New Zealnd sauvagion blanc was crisp and grapefruity. We went this passed Sunday (5/29) and all 4 of us ordered the Sunday dinner for $30. The berry salad was the first disappointment. I could only find about 2 small blueberries and a few thin slices of strawberries in my salad. The Halibut was only a very small serving and that would have been OK if it had been served on a bed of something substantial. Although the broth was tasty, the quinoa and beans in the broth were not enough to make the meal worth it. I had been to Root Down many times before this experience and honestly every time I go the experience gets worse. On this occasion, my party if 5 were sat right behind a large group (15 people or so). Our server was clearly overwhelmed and her entire focus was making the large party happy. In doing so, our experience was negatively effected. We had to continue to flag down a server (usually not even our own) to refill our coffee and water, while we continually saw our server refilling the large tables mimosa's and other drinks. Once we put our drink orders in, we waited 15-20 minutes to put our food order in. When our food finally came everyone's food except one persons came. We let the server know and the food came out 10 minutes after everyone else. Our server never came by to ask how our food was and honestly, it tasted like it sat at the kitchen for a while.\n\nI emailed Root Down letting them know about this experience before posting this review, and after 3 days I've heard nothing.

in searching for restaurants with vegan options i came across root down. we are from kansas city and were SO excited to stop in and eat some delicious food. SO when i had a conference in Denver this weekend i made reservations for my colleagues and me to eat dinner there. It was awesome to sit at the bar and search through all there great drink options-when we got to our table we were just delighted by the food choices. the server (sarah) was great and it was wonderful to have recommended such an enjoyable experience. we even ate at the location at the airport the next day. can't recommend this place enough. eat there now!

Recently moved to the Denver area and have been trying to find a worthy brunch spot to compete/compare to our favorite in Memphis. We sampled several in the city and have been left under-whelmed. We heard from several friends about Root Down and were eager to try. We were very surprised at the original long wait with making a reservation (had to reserve almost three weeks out to get a Sunday brunch spot), but the wait was definitely worth it. Excellent food and drinks that were served timely, well portioned, and fairly priced for their quality. Our favorite in Memphis has met it's match, but with a little Denver style.

We had an amazing dinner at Root Down on Tuesday. I hadn't been since the week it opened and am so glad I went back. The first time we brought 24 people for dinner and were surprised that some of the kinks were still being worked out for a group that size. Upon reflection, it was mean to do that the first week ans expect perfect service. This time, we were a group of 3 and had an AMAZING dinner. The lemon drops were nice and tangy and the gnocchi appetizer was to die for.

I chose the restaurant based on the recommendation of a friend who I was recently travelling with. We were at the Denver airport together and had drinks at the location there. He suggested I check out the restaurant in downtown Denver. I was on a first date with someone attending a concert later in the evening. Our server Sofia asked us if this was a special occasion and when I told her about the concert she was very attentive to any time constraints we may have in making the show. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list and made excellent suggestions. The food was outstanding and was served very quickly. The atmosphere in the restaurant is eclectic and fun. Casual, but still romantic enough for a date night. I'll also mention the valet parking is wonderful for parking in that area. Overall a thumbs up for me.

We had eaten here several times before and had been very happy. I was sad to come back and have a not so great experience. Our waitress was ineffectual, rarely came by, or showed any interest in her role. My meal was cold. The flavor was great, but when eating at a higher end restaurant it can be a real bummer when a number of things within the experience are subpar. The dessert was fantastic. Overall, It seemed we were a burden to be waited on even though we are pretty easy keepers, my food was cold, and meals were not brought out in a timely manner.

When we arrived we were greeted and were asked when our flight was to see if we would have enough time to dine, we had 3 hours so we were good. We were seated In a couple of minutes by the pleasant host and promptly approached by our server who checked again when our flight was. Our server was awesome.. she knew the menu and wine list very well. She made a couple of suggestions and left us to browse the menu. Our reservation was at 2:15 and the restaurant was relatively quiet with several open tables by the time we received our food at 3:00. We had to repeatedly ask for water and coffee refills from the people cleaning the tables since our waitress was nowhere to be found. Also the food was not as we ordered it including poached eggs that were served very soft, almost runny instead of hard. This was one of the items we requested be corrected and by the time we received the properly cooked eggs, our meals were half-eaten and cold. Overall, the plates were just ok and the service was awful. The restaurant used to be such an amazing place with a fantastic menu. Now, it's tough to find something appealing that doesn't have some bizarre ingredient added to it. With all of the wonderful new restaurants, as well as the other consistently delicious established places, we will not be returning to Root Down.

The Carrot & Thai Soup, outstanding, the Pork Tenderloins perfectly prepared, and the Butternut Squash Risotto delicious with it's creamy, pistachio-crunchy, maple sauce flavor combination. This was my first time having dinner at Root Down, in the past I've only been there for happy hour. Maybe it was because we went on a special occasion (Valentine's Day), but it was very expensive. I don't know if the kind of menu they gave us was the norm but $200+ and I'm still questioning the value. I grew up in North Denver and it's kind of jarring when a night out with just two people is so expensive especially when you work at a nonprofit. Anyway I'll still come back but probably never for dinner I simply can't afford it. I guess they're trying to ensure a 'type' of demographic at their restaurant which is unfortunate.

What a disappointment! I ordered a tofu korma for $24 and it turned out to be a small slice of blackened tofu with salty tomato sauce. Calling it a 'korma' was an offense to the Indian subcontinent. Plus I was still starving when the check came! I didn't dare risk ordering dessert after that dinner disaster. My date ordered the chicken for $28. The kale was soggy and his chicken was greasy. However, have had great starters in other venues, only to be disappointed with the remainder of the meal. Not here, every plate seemed to outdo the last, from the unbelievable Devils on Horseback, to the perfect Butternut Squah Risoto and culminating with their superb, vibrant Seafood Cioppino with rockfish, diver scallops, and prawns (in Denver of all places). Great selection of local microbrews, unique cocktails, and tasty wines. Finally, the service was truly special, and made sure we had a great experience and got us in-and-out in under 90 minutes! My family and I came for brunch. It was ok, but nothing special. The food was average. I had a gumbo, and it had a good spicy flavor. Nothing against it, but nothing to remember either. My daughter got a banana bread french toast., and I tried a few pieces. It was really dry to my taste. My father in law had a lamb burger. He is not an expert, but he did not like it. He said he'd much rather enjoy an Uber burger at Uber eats nearby. The rest of the groups was not too excited about their food either. The waiter was a bit hectic too.\nWhen I was there a few years ago for dinner, I had a much better experience, I still remember some type of squash curry soup, so perhaps brunch is not this place's forte.

Our server was a little rushed and the kitchen was behind which is fine and didn't bother us. Food was great, got an app, entree, and desert. Inquired about coffee or after dinner drinks and our server told us that our time at the table would be up so she couldn't offer us anything else. We were there for 1:45 at that point. The carrot soup and butternut squash risotto were fantastic. We appreciate the variety of choices to please both the vegetarians and the carnivores. The shared plates idea works well for us. The devils on horseback was a little spicy for my daughter-but she likes her food with very little spice, so it was fine for the rest of the carnivores in the group.

Took my daughter to Root Down to celebrate her birthday - so glad it's open for lunch on Fridays. The service was excellent from the moment we stepped through the door. The food was unusual - we'd never heard of Ramen deviled eggs before - and we had a yummy meal. The card signed by the staff added a festive touch to the birthday. She had to go back to work but we lingered as long as we could and enjoyed every moment. .. a total success.

It was my birthday and we got a great spot by the garage doors (if you've been, you know what I mean) so I got to see Denver's skyline during our meal. Our server was incredible (as always) and the food amazing. Plus, I got birthday gelato! With a candle! From our arrival at the hostess/host stand--where the host was warm, welcoming and polished--to our goodbyes--when I accidentally got in the way of another server and she was so super nice and patient--our visit was superb. Love you guys! (And thank you for always having incredible vegan food available. It's why we go to you!)

I had wanted to dine at Root Down for quite sometime. When a longtime friend was in town, four of us had dinner there one Saturday night. The service was beyond just good; our waiter was very accommodating when one person in the party had to leave early. Her food arrived first and her bill came separately, allowing her to easily get to her next engagement. The food was spectacular! It was the best meal I'd had in months. The soup was delicious, the veggie sliders were to die for! I will be back, no question. There is nothing negative I can say just a wonderful dining experience!

This is my second time at Root down and I love the food and the drink selection. I've never been disappointed and think the portion sizes are perfect. My only complaint is that the service is too much, every time I got into a conversation with my friends a server would come over and ask if there was anything we wanted or take a very long time explaining the menu and specials. Every time one of us has a mouthful of water there would be someone rushing over to fill up our water glasses. I just found it a bit awkward by the end and all I wanted to do was have a good catch up with my friends without being interrupted every minute. I will still go back as the food is so delicious.

Just in case there was nothing else, I got reservations for both nights.... \n\nAnd, on a Tuesday night in the middle of of October, it was one of the best meals I ever ate. My friend felt the same. We decided to keep the reservation for the second night and ate there again. It just so happened between Tuesday and Wednesday, the menu changed a bit to accommodate the change in seasons.\n\nBesides superb food: flavorful, interesting combinations, expertly prepared, I felt good afterwards. That's a lot of pluses. There is no shortage of service at Root Down. They don't bug you, they just come around and take care of you. They're clearly passionate about their restaurant, and it feels like they care about you too. Every table was full both nights, in the middle of the week! I recently had brunch at Root Down with a group of girlfriends. While the overall experience was enjoyable (ie the food was great and the atmosphere fun), the service was actually pretty poor.\n\nOur server seemed to think that by questioning our drink orders multiple times and making such comments as: 'Really? Just one?', 'So...what's going on here...sure we don't want another?' [while waving an empty glass in front of us], and 'How 'bout another? She's getting one...come on!' that his service was professional and appreciated. Not whatsoever. We left annoyed.\n\nFor this reason alone, we'll be very hesitant to go back to Root Down for brunch or any meal. (And hey buddy, no means no. )

As a party of 4, we made reservations to ensure a table. We couldn't even have a proper conversation with each other, because to be able to talk, we had to yell over the music (just like the rest of the visitors). I am used to restaurants that prepare food upon order; however, the service erred on the side of glacial. While the dishes had a lovely appearance, the food was hardly seasoned and my friend had a brick shaped item that was the most repulsive thing I have ever tasted. Overpriced for tiny portions, and when my friend stated he didn't like his dish...there was no offer to replace it with something different. Overall, I believe Root Down is under-seasoned and overrated.

I want to note that I had no idea what I was walking into, because I had never been to this spot before. \n\nMy boyfriend and I made reservations about 2 weeks in advance and we were unfortunately placed at a table that was right next to a large and very rambunctious party of 8. The noise level was so high that we could not hear each other over the group and other surrounding tables, even across the small 2 top we were sitting at. We mostly sat in silence, which was disappointing because we were hoping to have a romantic evening where we could talk with each other and enjoy a bottle of wine. We actually received an apology from the waitress who was taking care of the party, which was polite but did not remedy the situation. \n\nThe other disappointment was our service, or lack of really. Our server was friendly, at least, but we sat at our table for 10 minutes before even being greeted by him, and when he finally did arrive, he was in such a rush that he spewed the specials at us, gave us water and hurried away. We were ready to order appetizers and cocktails, and her was nowhere to be seen. We finally got our order in, and waited. And waited. And waited. He sent out a 2nd appetizer because our entrees were taking so long. We were hoping to order a bottle of wine with our dinner, but our server was literally gone. Our entrees came, and they were DELICIOUS. As was everything we had. But the service was beyond poor. \n\nWe had the blue cheese and honeycomb starter, amazing. For my entree I had the small dish mushroom corn risotto. It was a perfect size, and was warm and creamy. It had these tiny little kale chips that were cooked to perfection! My boyfriend had the chicken entree with a green chile grit cake, holy moly. I never knew grits could taste so good.\n\nWe will be coming again due to the quality and pricision of the food, but hopefully on a less busy night, and we might try requesting a more cozy area.

Chef Asher's 'raw food' night (first Tuesday of the month) is a culinary treat. The distinct flavors and textures make the lack of animal protein irrelevant. The caprese salad with 'cashew mozzarella' was amazing and even better than the traditional presentation. I came here for my birthday after hearing wonderful things. The food was good, sure - and the view from the balcony was lovely. However, we had a pretentious waitress who overpronounced everything so much it was embarrassing. I speak Italian and would never say 'gnocchi' or 'risotto' in such an overblown fashion unless I were trying to make fun of Italians. The place seems to advertise itself as 'local,' but none of the ingredients have a provenance - on the back of the menu, there is a list of 'suppliers,' but no telling what comes from where? Once I figured out that a lot of the food probably came from Aramark or Cisco, I became even more disgruntled at the price.

They gave us little tastes of different dishes while we waited. Then brought out caramel for dessert which were tiny candies that cost a $1.50 on the menu. I acknowledge the effort but I would have preferred a real dessert or a free entree. An hour is a long time to wait with a baby.

We wanted a restaurant with an emphasis on creative, healthful fine dining. Three friends independently suggested Root Down and it was a perfect choice. The service was outstanding, but what really made our evening was dining on the patio with a gorgeous view of the lights of Denver. \n\nEverything we tried was delicious and we recommend you not miss the compressed melon salad or the individual truffles - the perfect amount of dessert.

I have been going to Root Down since they opened, many years ago, and I have never been disappointed. I am a vegetarian, so I tend to be a bit picky but Root down just blows my expectations out of the water every time I go there, with their amazing menu, incredible service & the hip ambiance. The Colombian Arepas, the beet salad, and the country fried tofu are so scrumptious and for desert the croissant bread pudding is simply delectable. You must have the coconut gin fizz cocktail!!

Root Down used to be our go-to 'special occasions' and 'out-of-town guests are here' restaurant. After our most recent meal, I'm on a quest to find an alternative. In my experience, Root Down was the best restaurant in Denver when you were in the mood for gourmet vegan food, however, there were very few vegan options on the menu this time. During our last visit, the vegan sliders, which are usually good, were gross. The rolls were stale and the veggie patties were really thin, like they had run out and made due with what they had left. Our entrees were fine but the portions were really stingy. Our appetizers and entrees were served together and then we waited at least 20 minutes for our desserts to be dropped off. Both of us left feeling liked we had been ripped off. I don't plan to return. If Root Down cost half of what we paid for our meal, it still wouldn't have been worth it.

Loved the food, surprisingly better than I imagined. Definitely a place for special occasions.

Driving up to the neighborhood Rest you get a good vibe because you can actually see and hear the other patrons . The complimentary valet service is a nice touch but having 1 person do everything creates a backup when you are ready to leave. Our food was pretty good. One person didn't like the lamb sliders. The beverage service was slow to lacking on the outside patio and our server seemed detached from our table. Our food was going to be delayed because of the cooking time of the rack of lambs ordered so the manager did bring out a couple of appetizers to sample. The view of downtown Denver from our table was a plus but as the sun set there was not enough lighting to actually see your food. That was a big negative. I ate at Root Down, Elways and Tables while in town and Tables came in 1st with Root Down being 2nd. Elways was a complete waste of money.

great happy hour at the cozy bar...inventive cocktails...and items from the main menu priced and portioned just right for sharing tapas style. most importantly, everything was fresh and delicious.

Requested and were kindly granted a patio seating on Friday. Everyone there is just so considerate and the food was, as usual, spectacular. The summer corn risotto was probably the favorite. Wine, drinks, desserts, all fabulous. Best restaurant in Denver.

I always enjoy root down. The food is always top notch and the servers are up to date on the changing menu. My group of 3 shared small plates and ordered 2 drinks, and the bill was $99 before tip. Always a great choice if you're good with the price.

We met my cousin and his wife for dinner on a Monday night. We started with a shared plate of peppadeau peppers stuffed with almonds wrapped in bacon, they were 'Oh My!' We had ordered a Willamette Valley Pinot Blanc that was on special and it was just perfect on a warm day. For dinner two of us had the halibut which was just exquisite in a spicy sauce. I had the short ribs and they were very good and my cousin's wife had the lamb and she thought it was as good as it gets. We ordered another special wine with the dinner - an Argentine Malbec that was beautiful and very tasty. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Couldn't have been much better.

Went with friends and had a great evening. The service was spectacular and the food was incredible. They could use more inventive cocktails on their menu but would go back in a heartbeat.

Very friendly and attentive service from the host to the bussers: we must have had 4 different people waiting on our table and coming in to check how we were doing. Kinda felt like too much interruption sometimes. We sat outside and they were thoughtful to not put us in the sun. Nice view of downtown. The menu had just changed for the summer and we had the beets salad, scallops, halibut, and rack of lamb. All were delicious with creative pairings. Definitely recommend!

Root Down gets everything right: world-class food with innovative combinations and flavors; an outstanding modern space that pays homage to the neighborhood and seamlessly merges outside views with a bright and lively indoor seating that allows conversation but never makes you feel like you are being overheard, and impeccable, attentive, informed but not pretentious service. The small plates allowed our table of three to enjoy a number of exquisite dishes, and the 'birthday' at our table was treated to a lovely dessert and complimentary champagne. Having lived in Denver for 25 years, but having been living internationally for the last decade, I had missed Root Down. It will be the first place I head to on all return trips to Denver. It is just terrific.

Wow - a menu of mostly gluten free food, great vegetarian choices, a fabulous wine list, a wonderful waitress named Sarah who also teaches yoga, well informed servers AND loved meeting the personable fun host type gentleman who was visiting Root Down Denver from the DIA location. Wonderful to see so many people loving their job and they all made the evening perfect for our birthday celebration. Will for sure go back!

Root Down had amazing food and great service. We didn't utilize the valet but I can see how it would be handy as parking nearby is scarce. A reservation is a good idea, it is a pretty popular restaurant, even on week nights.

With a reservation we were seated immediately, even after calling ahead to add another person. \n\nBest food I've had in a while and the competition for that category in Denver is getting pretty competitive. I split the tofu scramble and pancakes, both outstanding in flavors, textures and plating

Went one for Brunch and loved the fried chicken dish- we went another time for dinner and I was not a fan- it was also a very hot day and they had the doors open. Was more than warm to say the least. Sadly I probably won't go back- although I do like spice they seem to have spice in every appetizer
