The food was outstanding. The reservations staff was quite aloof and unfriendly. Every other aspect of our experience was great, so that is a shame, since it's the first point of contact.

The food - mussels, speck with warm dates, gnocchi, rabbit, duck, steak with arugula and parmesan - was spectacular. But, amazingly enough for someone with the La Brea Bakery pedigree, the bread was nothing special. One piece per diner, a small dish of olive oil. It did not seem to match the outstanding level of all else. (Also outstanding was the noise level - too loud for the 94-year old birthday celebrant, and even for somewhat younger ears - and light levels were low.) Overall, however, a fantastic meal and one we'd book ahead, again, with pleasure!

The food was outstanding, as always. However, the service during this most recent visit was disappointing. First time that I have ever been underwhelmed by the service at Osteria Mozza. Our server was inconsistent, at best. The Sommelier was outstanding, though! Also, when making the reservation, I indicated that we would be celebrating my husband's birthday, and it went unacknowledged.

The food went beyond my expectations, my service sadly did not. Half way through our meal we were informed that a new waiter would be taking over our table but were never introduced. I sat at my table without a drink for at least ten minutes until we had to ask for service. My side dish was taken away before I was finished with it, adding to the frustration, and overall it just seemed like we were an afterthought to our new waitress. While I understand it is a business and these things happen, please have staff be mindful when approaching handoffs as it greatly affected our first experience here. I absolutely loved the food and look forward to my next visit exceeding my first impression so I may encourage all my friends and family to try your delicious restaurant!

I have been wanting to go to Osteria Mozza for years but didn't have the chance until this past Saturday night. We just had a baby last April so fancy dinners out are few and far between these days. The meal exceeded my expectations, the wine was amazing and the service was great. First, we sat the mozzarella bar which I actually liked better than sitting at table. Second our server was friendly and paced our meal out perfectly as well as made some awesome recommendations. Third, the wine sommelier picked a perfect bottle of wine! Finally the food was amazing. We had 1 mozzarella dish, 2 pasta dishes and we each had our own entree. If I was were to do it over again, I think I would have got 2 appetizers and 2 pasta dishes and then saved room for dessert. We liked our entrees but liked the pasta and appetizers better. Thanks for an amazing dinner and date night out!

Beyond the fact that the food came out at a turtle pace with a 15 to 20 minute lag between courses, the waiter did not visit our table even one time to check on us over the course of a crazy 2 1/2 hour meal. After we were done with the entrees and the empty, dirty plates were sitting on the table for 10 to 15 minutes, I had to call the waiter over to tell him to please take the dirty plates away, take our dessert order and bring the check. His response is that he was waiting for us to finish the entree which as I said had been finished by all for at least 10 minutes. To boot, the restaurant was not very busy and as we were commenting about the absence of service, we were observing our waiter casually leaning against the wall chatting with other waiters. Food was good, not great... but service was embarrassing and frustrating!!!

We could have used a little more attention from the sommelier and our server (she blew us off halfway through our meal) but the atmosphere was modern and the food tasty enough to make up for a less than favorable service interaction.

My wife and I are tourists from San Francisco Area and heard much about Mozza and wanted to dine here. I had the sweetbread which was so dry it was not good. Wife had the sea bream and it was also not tasty at all, again rather dry. So both dishes were very disappointing, Mozza is so over rated. Will not recommend.

I love Mozza. I'm a big fan, and me and my friend had a great time. We had a table set for 9:15, but decided to get there early and hope for a spot at the bar, which we got easily at 8pm.\n\nWe ordered three pastas, having resolved beforehand that's what we wanted to go. The Linguine clams was great, the cacio y pepe was heeeavily seasoned which I guess was the point, but maybe maybe maybe a little over the top, and the oxtail ragu was totally solid.\n\nThe olive oil cake is insane and not to be missed.\n\nThe bill took forever to come, only complaint, and a hard one to make because the chef sent us complimentary ice cream (the mango sorbet was unreal). Last thing -- waiters in white shirts and ties feels a little steak-house-y in an otherwise very hip, elegant restaurant.

We planned this meal as a special occasion, first anniversary. Our table seating was pleasant. The main dinning room was loud and bustling but we were placed in a smaller side room which was moderate to quite and enjoyable. The menu had a wide variety of unusual items in which we could try new dishes. The appetizers and pasta course were delicious although the mozzarella bar just missed the mark in the sweet salt balance point. The pasta course was delicious with duck ragu. \n\nThe server hit the mark on wine selections that definitely added to our enjoyment. The main course was a large rib-eye steak with a special rub, served with new potatoes. Although it was delicious, it was not well trimmed and did not meet the expectation of a $102 protein for two. All in all a good experience but a bit over priced for the selection. Will be more discerning when ordering in the future looking for appropriate value.

heard great things about restaurant. After we arrived, we were sat and then proceeded to wait 15 minutes for water, another 10 minutes for menus, and then our food took another 45 minutes to come out, and that was just the appetizers. We ended up leaving right when we got our main course because we were exhausted. The pasta was good, I will say, but overall, there are much better italian restaurants in the city that one can go to. Spend the money at Il Picolino or Il Pastaio instead. Much better off. I would not come back due to the service. If i could do it again, I would just get a few pasta dishes at the bar. Pizzeria Mozza which is next door, I would recommend. DIning there blew me away and is well worth it.

Although Osteria Mozza came recommended to us as one of the best in LA, we had a pretty mixed experience. Service was mostly good overall, with a few hiccups. We asked for assistance in selecting a wine (and ordered a pretty expensive bottle from the massive list of Italian wines) but it took 10-15 minutes before it was served and we were well into our first course. Also, while the server was attentive, surprisingly we were never asked how anything was (and we would've given feedback). The food was inconsistent in our view—we had five courses. The imported burrata from the mozzarella bar was good but while we got a massive serving of the cheese, the accompanying braised leeks were paltry. We got a kale salad that was overdressed with oil for our taste (i.e. swimming in the bottom). The ricotta and egg raviolo was on the bland side while the goat cheese ravioli was super salty. We had the orata (fish) for the secondi and while usually served whole, they gladly removed the head and tail before serving at our request. It was fine but not as delicious as it sounded. It was wrapped in radicchio but I couldn't taste it at all, plus it was just very slightly fishy. And the side of roasted potatoes was nothing special. Dessert was mini olive oil cakes with olive oil ice cream and rosemary brittle, easily the best dish of the night. For a place with their reputation (and prices), we expected more. It's possible we had an off night or ordered wrong (we don't eat meat) but I'd be hard-pressed to return.

Food was excellent. Service was horrendous. The wait staff and bar staff was extremely rude and dismissive. They spent over 30 minutes discussing the bottle of wine we brought and repeating the corkage policy despite my saying I understood it. Then they kept discussing our wine amongst themselves to make sure they checked to see that it was not on their wine list. I wouldn't care but the problem was they were doing it right in front of my date and i and it made me uncomfortable. We sat at the bar to take advantage of a tasting menu and the bar staff was condescending and dismissive. They kept cleaning wine classes and filling water glasses rather than attend to us . Once I got over my initial embarrassment and blocked out the staff it was lovely food. And lovely atmosphere.

I had heard so much about this restaurant and was excited to get a chance to finally try it. The service was very slow, after being seated no one came to welcome us or get our drink order. We had to flag someone down and asked for help. We were greeted by a frazzled, rude waitress who half answered our questions and took off she didn't even ask if we would like drinks. We had to flag someone down to ask for bread even though a guy was walking around with a basket, he never stopped at our table which was in the middle of the room! Finally a very professional polite waiter approached and helped us out. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. I ordered the Ravioli with Egg and it was literally 1 ravioli!

We have enjoyed many great meals here over the years, so it was an easy choice to have booked it for my wife's birthday. They seated us in the tourist room (despite my special request and booking well in advance). We got moved -- sort of -- but pulled the awful waiter card. Disinterested, slow, no opinions. Just interested in pushing truffle shavings. The food was horrible. My mussels came soaked in Ragu-esque sauce with two huge parts of a bagette stuck in the pile. My poor wife's fish -- stuffed with something inedible -- was disgusting. What the heck has happened?

We made last-minute reservations for a late, light dinner. We could not have been greeted more warmly (we are not regulars, but you would have thought we were). We asked for a quiet table and, although the restaurant is quite lively, we were escorted to a perfect table that allowed for conversation. The servers certainly know their stuff - they answered all of our questions with great enthusiasm, describing in detail the various elements of each dish and how they are prepared. The descriptions of some of the more complex dishes were akin to hearing a review of a great symphonic piece. And when the food arrived we immediately understood the pride that the servers have in the chefs' spectacular creations. There are great artists in the kitchen, and even on a late night in LA, when one would expect that they might let up, they produce what has to be considered one of the very best meals in LA - correction, in the country.

Although I have not eaten here before, my expectations were somewhat high. My meal missed in so many ways. The pasta (orchiette) had a tasty sauce, but the pasta itself seems like it was chewy rather than al dente. My hanger steak was ordered medium, but came out closer to rare. The meat was flavorful though, just too rare. The arugula salad with it was very good, but it was an extremely simple salad. \n\nThe service started out great, but as it got busier, I was spending more time searching for my server to send my meal back, than in eating. It really ruined the experience. perhaps it was because I was dining alone, and many larger parties arrived after me. The servers go where the money is. My $100 meal was nothing compared to the tables ordering 2 or 3 bottles of $300 wine.\n\nI have eaten next door at the pizzeria several times, and I think the food there is actually quite a bit better. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things at Osteria Mozza, but based on my experience I will not return. There are too many fabulous restaurants that want me to dine with them, and that's where I'll spend my money.

Exceptional food (as always). And somehow, exactly as solid as it was the very first time our minds were blown years ago. Very few restaurants (even 'elite' spots) can maintain that level of consistency, but even more so, match that 'magical' level of quality that memories have a way of inflating. Osteria Mozza accepts the challenge of the inflated memory, and meets the hell out of it, every single time. Kudos, friends.\n\nThe noise level was a bit much on our last outing there, but honestly, with the food being as good as it was/is... who cares. 'We can chat later.' Outstanding service, also. The grilled octopus was very good as well as the gnocchi with duck ragu, though portions were small. Fried dough balls with dipping sauces seem to be a common thing in many restaurants. Here they're called 'bombolini' and come with a huckleberry compote and lemon mascarpone. Without a doubt the BEST we've had in any restaurant. Don't leave without ordering them. Prices are not cheap but not too overpriced for the quality of the food and desserts around $13 seem high, until you try the bombolini and feel it's worth it. On a sour note, there's not excuse to charge $ 6 for a way overpriced single espresso.

Just when I thought that I couldn't possibly like a plate of food from Osteria Mozza any more than I did the last time I was there, I was surprised. I have my standbys......the mozzarella bar (their burricotta is amazing......one with braised artichokes, pine nuts, currants & mint pesto and the other with spiced walnuts, radicchio, honey & fried rosemary. Both melt in your mouth phenomenal.), ricotta & egg raviolo with browned butter and Grilled Quail\nwrapped in pancetta with honey & sage. But my boyfriend ordered the Orecchiette\nwith sausage & Swiss chard.........and it is my new favorite. Based on the description alone, I would have never ordered it for myself, as I'm not a big sausage fan, but the taste and texture of this dish made it my new 'old standby'. My mouth is watering now, 5 days later, just thinking about. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and extremely attentive. By far, the best service I've ever had at any restaurant. The wine list is very extensive. I looked it up online ahead of time and it was 76 pages long. Their sommelier is intuitive and knows her stuff. She gave great direction on the wine that was best for me. If you haven't yet been here (please tell me you've been here!), you have to go. Immediately!

Ribeye steak was excellent and price was very reasonable. However, white truffle was superrrr overrated for the price. It's not one of those I will order again. \nThe Grilled Squid salad was very good; this is one we can recommend and order again. However, the appetizer (sampler) that has the salami, prosciutto, cheese, stick was very ordinary.

The food was great as always, but the service has gotten VERY stiff. Need to take it down a notch, too formulaic and procedural. For example, a 20 minute wait for the wine we had brought to be served.

Excellent service and the atmosphere was perfect to take the edge off of any notions that the place is stuffy or bourgeois. Just really good food served by very skilled staff. The grilled octopus was my wife's favorite and I agree the preparation was spot on. I immediately noticed that the quality of the cheese was the star. We skipped the wine list and I think you can still have a very pleasant experience without it. The cheese is a must have as well as the grilled octopus.

This was the second time I have gone to Mozza. The first was a few years ago and it was superb. Was worth the super expensive price. This visit was terribly disappointing. The food was rather tasteless and the olive oil ( one of the most notable memories of my first visit) was just awful. The best part of the Neal was dessert--Rosemary olive oil cakes. Next time, I will just go for dessert. All in all--not worth it.

Osteria Mozza is a well run restaurant. The staff is friendly, professional and very knowledgable. The food is excellent and the portions are such that you are able to order several dishes and taste a variety of Mozza's offerings. Our favorite items were the grilled octopus and dishes from the mozzarella bar. It is a busy restaurant and the noise level is medium to medim high. The valet parking is located in an alley on the west side of Highland so try and enter from Melrose (north of the restaurant) for easy access.

The food was absolutely delicious! No question there. The support staff or professional as could be. Our waiter however, was flat out off. He was rude and condescending. Then, he leaves just as were finishing one of the courses and he says he's handed this off to another waiter yet doesn't bring that other person over to introduce us to whomever is allegedly now taking care of us. It took me calling over the manager for things to move forward after eight and I have my believe long wait. Now, if the food had not been so amazing, after waiting as long as we did – I would've raced a major stink. As it was – I did speak to the manager afterwards. He was very kind and he listened but still – three hours for dinner- and most of the time is spent waiting for the entrée to be cooked? I'm sorry – not acceptable. Will we return? Probably - but only when it's just myself and my husband – I will never take a group there again because it was awful trying to keep everyone happy and engaged while they're starving.

Lovely restaurant and the menu looks great. Both my friend and I had allergies and eat out a lot together at many nice restaurants. This was definitely the most difficult time we had ordering. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks and 40 minutes just to get our food ordered with many go-backs to the kitchen. It was a rush to make it the theater in time as a result. My food was good but barely warm when it came out. I would only recommend for those without allergies and with time on your hands.

We went to Osteria Mozza five years ago and I LOVED it. Went back for my 30th birthday and it was a disaster. The service was lousy--but only for us, some hotshot was sitting next to us and got red carpet service while we were vastly ignored. The food is good. The Mozzarella from Italy is as good as I remembered it, but we were disappointed that the fancy pants guy next to us got the full run down about it, while were were just handed it. The beef entree was just a little too rare, (and we like rare food), but we were never asked what temperature we wanted, or given the opportunity to send it back because the waiter never came by. Pastas were good, but overpriced. For shame, Mozza. They've definitely lost their spacial touch. \nP.S. When I say 'went back,' I mean I came to LA from Chicago for my big birthday and insisted we celebrate at Mozza. There are a billion restaurants I should have picked instead.

Ambiance is great. A year ago when I came here I loved it! This time around a few hiccups. We got our first appetizer, the burrata which was amazing. But after that we never received our second appetizer, and quite frankly were forgotten about for a good 30-40 minutes. I finally told the manager as he was walking by and he said he'd take care of us. From there three different people came by confused. I had to explain over and over again to each person- 'We got first appetizer-been waiting since for our second app or dinner entrees.' So they brought the second appetizer after our dinner was served (octopus, pretty good, not the best) and comp'd it which was nice of them. But I was truly shocked at the main entrees. I ordered the Pappardelle with Rabbit, it was quite bland, and I ordered it because it came highly recommended by our waiter (who disappeared). My friend got the pasta (forget which one) with the bolognese, bland as well but also the portion was the size of the palm of his hand! That was shocking to me for a main course. I fine dine quite a lot and that was just unreal, and pricey at that. So overall, yea the service was off but I understand sometimes things happen so it wasn't a huge deal. But the food, it really was a disappointment. I remember the food being fantastic when I was there last so not quite sure what happened. Bummer, I was so excited going in.

Three of the four of us loved our food. The other just didn't appreciate the overall experience. The positives are well known. Truthfully, the three breads passed were very good but ordinary (sourdough, whole wheat and whole grain). Served without the benefit of a fine butter w/ special salts or olive oil or condiment of any kind. The services was disjointed. We had 5-6 different people serving or checking one our table, which made it confusing to know who was in charge when it came time to talk to one of them (for the bill, for more water, to box leftovers). The staff was nice but seemed very busy. The restaurant is very noisy so diners should be aware in case they are sensitive to noisy dining experiences. Nice touch to pick up 'doggy bags' on the way out the door.

Every dish was extremely rich, and there were few options for the non-meat lover (there are no main courses that are vegetarian, for example). A squash ravioli dish was outstanding, and a goat cheese ravioli was quite good but almost too rich to eat. The squid ink pasta looked wonderful but was unfortunately too salty to eat (the waiter graciously deducted it from our bill). \nThe ambience is dark and a little too subdued for a celebration, at least in the room where we were placed. Our table was near a hutch which was frequented by the waiters, who unfortunately bumped forcefully into my chair at least 10 times - not relaxing.

We had a splendid special occasion meal at Osteria Mozza recently. The food was fabulous and our server couldn't have been better. We solicited her help regarding food decisions and quantities since we were sharing some appetizers and pasta before our mains and her suggestions were spot on. However, the unctuous manner of the sommelier was most off-putting. The wine list is many pages long and so it initially seemed nice that he offered to help us make a choice but his initial suggestion was a $375 bottle of wine! I can appreciate that his job may be to sell wine but I don't think he should do so at the discomfort of patrons. His suggestion put us in the position of appearing cheap in front of our guests when we had to respond that we were looking for a more modest price range. Perhaps next time he should offer a range of options with at least one at the low end of the list.

Totally realize restaurants have a lot going on, but some of the best places we've been to (similar level of star chef credo as Osteria Mozza), made an effort to read the notes, and add a simple touch that made the experience that much more authentic. \n\nNonetheless, we had a very good time and will likely come back!

We were excited about this restaurant because of all the hype. But, the three of us agreed that it was priced way too high for the offerings. The service was the best part, well, maybe the bread was, but the wine was overpriced and the food was over salted and over cooked.\n\nThe vibe was fun and we enjoyed the sort of 80s thing.

I loved everything about Osteria; the service, the wine, the ambiance, the starters. I ordered the Caico e pepe (my favorite dish of all time, order it whenever I can!) for my main dish and was sadly disappointed. I've never had a caico with so so so much cracked peppers....I had to switch dishes with my friend because it was too spicy for me to even handle. Never had a caico like that.\n\nWill be back, but won't be ordering that dish.

Nancy Silverton and partners have created a dining space that could be in MIlan, and she serves world class food. We had trouble with the LA traffic and arrived late. That was fortuitous because we were seated at the Mozzarella bar, and we loved that a lot. Her 'mozza' creations are unique and delicious. The ambiance here is modern, hip and Italian. I can think of only one or two Italian restaurants in Manhattan that are at the same level.

First time at Mozza. We loved it! We had the first seating at 5:30 so it was quiet, but as the restaurant filled, the noise level went up. The food is outstanding and there were three of us and we mostly shared the dishes so we could try as much as possible. The service is attentive and they are happy to explain the menu and different terms of what the Italian words meant. Would definitely return. Valet park in the alley behind at at $12.00.

Delicious food. As with many in vogue places- over attentive service once you sit down, hovering g over you to commit to a drink or wine selection (which was like a bible & required some time to review), then once food and drinks served not as easy to flag down server for refills. But they did pretty good job with us. My linguini a vongole was one of best and unique I've ever had. And the signature dish I usually order for my personal evaluation, when visiting a new Italian ristorante. \nNo complaints. Would definitely return.

Absolutely wonderful restaurant. The food was unbelievably fresh, complex, delicious and creative. The service was fabulously good from the valets, to the Sommelier to the waiter to the manager. There were three of us. With the waiters suggestions, we ordered very well. We shared the fresh cheese sampler (which came with the BEST garlic bread) and figs wrapped in prosciutto; a gnocchi with a rich ragout; veal breast and a whole white fish that was stuffed. We ordered spinach as well but they said it wasn't good that night so we skipped the vegetable. We shared 'Nana's torte' for dessert - delicious, not too sweet which was great after such a rich meal. We aren't big wine drinkers so I have no suggestions although I had a lovely sparkling rose. The wine menu is enormous. Go there! it is a treat!

My clean eating lifestyle hinders me from giving this place a good review. Heavy, heavy food. My lemon drop martini was ok, rimmed was sugared underneath the actual rim so sugar hardened and then dripped down to the stem. Sticky fingers all throughout dinner. Lame! The apps were ok, octopus was excellent! Ordered the shredded Brussels sprouts, couldn't taste the flavor of the actual sprouts because it was sopping in oil. Gross! Also ordered the fig, date honey thing, whatever, the cracker it's on tasted burnt too. WTF! Then I made the huge mistake of ordering the brown butter squash pasta, frickin' nasty. No flavor except burnt oil. Disgusting! I had 2 bites and couldn't eat the rest of my dish. I stole bits from my husbands' pasta bolognese, tasty bit again heavy and dropping in oil. All in all, if you eat clean DO NOT waste you time or money. Nothing is clean! It sounds like it from the descriptions but it arrives sopped in oil. Only reason we tried this place is because we had a gift card. Will never return! And I was too tired from working all day and were with friends we don't see often to send food back. I wanted to enjoy the company I was with.

We knew the restaurant was pricey and well reviewed and as such had high expectations. We were seated over 20 minutes later than our reservation time due to a misunderstanding about whether our party was complete (it was). We ended up in a chilly side room away from the main dining space. Our principal server was inconsistent and at times awkward and left her shift before the meal ended. The support staff and Sommelier were terrific. The food was good but not great - we are foodies and felt that our own cooking efforts were often comparable - in short, there was a certain specialness that was absent from a Michelin-starred restaurant experience.

What stood out the most was how expensive a glass of wine was. The merlot blend and sangiovese both were over $30 for a glass and neither was very good. The food was very good. We had the burratta, pasta with eggplant and the duck. The duck looked horrible and plain but was very tender and flavorful. Biggest drawback was the wine though and have a very difficult time justifying how the bill was spent more on not so good wine than food. And in case you were wondering, the other types of red wine were also about high $20's- $30 range.

The manager was helpful but for what we endured at the hands of this woman he should have at least comped a desert. Sommelier recommended a bottle of wine - $175 which my guests enjoyed but halfway through the meal a different sommelier came and refilled glasses with different wine from another decanter. This is unethical, unprofessional and when I brought it to the attention of a manager she shrugged. Suggested we order one pasta each because they were small -- not only were they served cold but the table has no room for four pasta plates to share. Based on their recommendations we over ordered and were sorely disappointed. Budino is not a warm lava cake....

When we left at 9:30 (Sunday night) the restaurant was already 2/3 vacant. Apparently, the manager made the decision to save on labor costs on a slow night at the expense of the providing excellent service. \n\nIn my mind, Mozza has dropped from a 4.5 (out of 5) star restaurant to a 3 star restaurant.

The hostess and server were outstanding, friendly and accommodating. We had been looking forward to eating here for sometime. We were promptly seated and greeted with a smile. We chose a couple glasses of wine to taste before making a final selection. After chatting with our server about which wines we'd like to try, she left us to put in our request. Shortly after, the sommelier came to us. She greeted us with a friendly 'Hello, I'm here to help.' We politely mentioned that we were ok, and that we had asked to taste a couple of wines. She replied with a second, 'yes, I'm here to help.' We again, insisted that we were happy with the tastes we were expecting. She continued to persist in a condescending manner. It was if she didn't hear us, and would just reply with, 'well I'm here to help'. After she insisted that we try wines different from what we had asked for, we ended up ordering one of our original choices. When we finished the glasses, we left to eat at another great Italian restaurant in the area.

All in all, Osteria Mozza is a true, fine dining experience. In some ways, it did not live up to all of our expectations - however some of this is our fault. To begin, while they charge $30 for corkage, I didn't realize they only have Italian wines on their wine list. I had a concern about bringing in a wine from their list and not being able to open it. That said, the wine we did order from them was more than twice the price of the same wine at the Wine House in West LA. I get really annoyed at the serious inflation of wine prices by restaurants. Regarding the restaurant itself, we were seated in the room adjacent the main part of the restaurant which was not a real problem for my wife, because she felt it was quieter (translated - more romantic). Who am I to argue with this? Still, the main part of the restaurant is vibrant, noisy and seemed to be a whole lot more fun. Regarding the food, we were encouraged (translated - sold) on having two appetizers, a pasta dish and two main courses. By the time dessert rolled around, we were stuffed. A couple appetizers (one from the mozzarella page), a pasta - maybe two, and only one entree would have been more than sufficient. And we would have had room for dessert. Also, my wife felt her lamb was charred excessively. Both entrees were indeed tasty and very, very enjoyable. \n\nStill, it was our anniversary and my wife had been looking forward to dining at Mozza - the Osteria not Pizzeria. Reservations are difficult particularly close to the date, but we had made our reservations very early. \n\nIt is a special occasion sort of place - particularly given that we have to drive into town from Santa Monica. Plan accordingly. Valet parking is $12 - not terribly rich considering what some other venues charge.\n\nWe did thoroughly enjoy ourselves - great food and ambience. It was a wonderful evening.

Osteria Mozza has always been one of my favorite LA restaurants. No more. Yes, it still has the same Hollywood energy and vibe, and the service is excellent, but the food is a far cry from what it once was. I doubt that Nancy Silverton or Mario Batali are overseeing the kitchen anymore; I used to see Batali out on the floor. The food used to have a wonderful layering of textures and tastes. Now, every dish is smothered in an over-salted, tomato paste-like sauce. If it is supposed to be a ragu or reduction, I couldn’t tell. I could not taste the oxtail in the Oxtail Ragu (it could have been any meat), nor the mixed wild mushrooms in the Veal Breast Straccotto. Rabbit con Salsiccia was entirely unmemorable. The best dish was the Italian Burrata, which not being made on the premises was no testimony to the chef. There are far better options, like Bestia and Redbird, at this price. I will not be back.

We had a few pastas which were all fantastic, and I believe someone ordered the beef shank which was also delicious. Price-wise the food was reasonable for the quality, and service. It was just hard to justify the exorbitant wine prices. We ordered a bottle for the table, one of the cheapest in the restaurant which was around $85. It was fine. The real hit came when we ordered a couple glasses. They were each around $35, and nothing special. It's still a great spot, trendy, and kind of something every los angelean should experience. From the moment we entered we were treated like we were 'special'. The service and the food were amazing. The appetizers were our favorites. We had roasted figs with pancetta, and the pork trotter. My husband and I dined at this restaurant for the second time on Friday night. As before, the service and food were outstanding. Luckily, we were seated in a separate area from the main dining area, where the noise level was not as high. I would recommend to request to be seated in this area if you enjoy a more quiet atmosphere. The main dining area was quite noisy.

Service started out great and then they let the ball drop a little with no one attending us after we were done with our main course. There were two servers alternating which was confusing. I had to ask for the dessert menu after a 15 minute wait - we were clearly finished but no one was paying attention. I had to flag down one of the other staff to get us a waiter. We enjoyed our experience and the food overall and service did start out stellar.

Food was excellent, however, really small portion size. Had to order additional food in which our server commented, ' we prefer you order all your food at once' I would have if I knew I was still going to be hungry after eating two dishes. Comparable Italian establishments we've eaten at Ive been overly full when ordering appetizer and pasta. Not here, in fact , the third dish that my guest ordered was same dish I had but was still smaller in portion size than mine. Rude server and portion size doesn't make up for great food.

Every dish thoughtfully and deliciously prepared and presented. The wine recommendation was excellent. The service was impeccable at each level. Everything comes a la carte and can be on the expensive side if you want to try it all, and you will. The summer squash salad was fresh and so flavorful. Specialty mozzarella dishes are a must try. The pasta is perfection. All portions are smaller but more than adequate to satiate. I rarely make it to the Secondi menu for wanting to save room for the James Beard award winning pastry chef dessert.

Cute, but curious....the sever corrected the host's grave and embarrassing error and explained they did in fact accept the as payment. Not the professional or intelligent response I expected. We had a wonderful dinner there on Sunday night. The sommelier was very helpful and picked a wonderful wine for us and our server was great in helping with the menu. The food was outstanding. My only disappointment was when my husband made the reservation we did note it was my 50th birthday dinner so it was a special occasion for our family and when he called to confirm the reservation he again said it was special dinner for my 50th birthday. So we did not mention anything to the server or hostess because we assumed that it was well noted the reason for our visit. But we did not even get a candle in our dessert, we did see the table next to us get one for their birthday. Yes we could have yet again tell our server the reason for our visit but thought it was already well communicated and my husband did not want to be obtrusive about it. I don't know if this was ignored or the server forgot. It not a huge deal but it would have been a nice thing. The meal was wonderful and we really enjoyed it and it was the perfect special occasion location.

Our New York guests (who are foodies) joined us for dinner. I recommended the mozzarella bar appetizers as something they would not have had before. We had the ones with chicken liver, artichoke and anchovies. They were all excellent but the chicken liver one stole the show. We three also shared two pastas (orchiette and pappardelle). Both good but the orchiette was divine. For entrees two of us ordered the veal breast (which I recommended highly having had it last month). It was overly salty and I am a salt lover. Disappointed because otherwise a delicious recipe. The third was the Arctic char. My guest liked it very much but thought the cooked egg on top was unnecessary. We also enjoyed the sautéed spinach and two excellent bottles of Sicilian wine but no dessert.

Wonderful experience from start to finish! Great ambience, impeccable service and incredible food. \r\n\r\nWe started with the Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad (delicious Brussels Sprouts . .. who knew THAT could happen?) and Grilled Octopus (which has now ruined me for any other Octopus dish I might encounter in my lifetime); split the Ricotta & Egg Raviolo (I'm normally not a fan of Riccota cheese, but this is unlike you've ever tasted [i.e., fresh and DELICIOUS], so I urge you to order this dish) with gorgeous, vibrant, egg yolk seeping out into the brown buttered sauce) then moved onto a Veal dish (it might have been a special, it had the veal and fat - which was incredibly unctuous and almost turned into a cream sauce in my mouth . . . so, so, so good) and Lamb Ragu pasta (clean your plate delicious). \r\n\r\nI wish we had room for dessert but, with all that food, it was impossible. If you love Italian food, but can't make it to Italy, then spend some of your plane fare on a meal here . . . worth every penny, calorie, and days in the gym. And for me, since I don't go to the gym, worth every penny, calorie, and week of wearing my ugliest 'fat pants.'

I had very high expectations of this restaurant, as the chef is famous and well-respected. She also has significant experience with food in Italy, so I was hoping for a real authentic Italian meal. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The food is Italian themed but was done in a different creative way. Im sure some people will appreciate it but we were hoping for true authentic Italian food. Anyone who has traveled to or lived in Italy knows how different Italian food really is. Its very simple, home-style and the quality is very high. We were excited to see Cacio e Pepe on the menu, as we have enjoyed this classic Roman dish in Rome many times. It was very very peppery here, basically inedible for us. I have never had so much pepper in a dish before, so I was very surprised and disappointed. The pumpkin mezzalune was good though, so I recommend that. It would be nice if they could do cacio e pepe in the classic way, not overwhelm the dish with pepper. We asked if we could have it re-made with less pepper, but they instead opted to make us a different dish, the agnolotti which was good, but didnt blow us away. Also, I think the price for the size of the dishes is very high. I know you pay for the nice atmosphere, white tablecloth, and good service but still, you want to feel full after real Italian food. The service was good, the restaurant is very pretty but value and quality were not what we expected, sorry to say. Perhaps the pizzeria next door will be better.

I have eaten here before and had a good experience. I had no Idea they had a back room that looks like a Gulag where they stick the tourists. I've been in this town for 35 years I have had a pretty nice career acting and directing so when I have a business meal with my agent of 25 years a well respected business woman in her own right I don't want to be seated in the last table in the Gulag. The table next to me was a family dressed like they were camping, kids with backwards baseball hats on their Iphones to their faces playing games the Father in a white undershirt ,no not a nice white tee an undershirt. Part of going to a nice place like Mozza is the ambiance. I may as well have had my meal at Norms. I will never make a reservation there again without the guarantee that I will be seated up front and I will tell any friend who asks my recommendation for a place to eat to try Mozza but don't let them put you in the Gulag. To top it off the waiter's shirt was too small it was like he had on his younger brothers all in all I felt like I was being punked or was I taken to the Gulag because I'm 65 and not 25 even though I still work on good shows. Thanks for letting me vent. I usually don't complain but the treatment I received was egregious. Bob McCracken

We wanted to give Mozza a glowing review, but the overcrowded nature of the restaurant, the nearly deafening noise level and the failure to seat us anywhere close to our reservation time turned our Mozza experience, our review, and our evening sour. Our experience was like dining on an overcrowded short-staffed subway car. We were seated close to 30 minutes after our reservation--which we made one month in advance. The server, although very pleasant, was overloaded so even after the inexcusable seating delay, every phase of our meal was delayed. A very simple two-course meal took well over two hours to fully execute, e.g., each course was delayed, initial server contact after seating was delayed, menu presentation was delayed, etc). The food, while generally good, was not worth the ultimate displeasure we, as patrons, were subjected to nor was the evening as a whole worth the prices charged.

Waited only a few minutes at the bar and then were seated at a very nice table. We ordered Burrrata & Bacon, Grilled Octopus, Brussels Sprouts, Oxtail Pasta and the Grilled beef Tagliata. EVERYTHING was amazing! \r\n\r\nThe only blip was the very long delay between our first burrata course and the next course, which was probably about 40 minutes. During this time the waiter kept saying 'it is being plated right now'. When we mildly complained , the waiter initially was not very apologetic. Just that 'it's very busy tonight' Well, since this place is always booked solid on a regular basis, they ought to be prepared for it being very busy. A house cocktail of gin and cucumber was delicious and powerful, and the wine list is one of the most extensive I've ever seen, with a good range of prices. They're known for their mozzarella, and the smoked bufala and the burrato and bacon were creamy and very flavorful. The grilled octopus appetizer was great. The orecchiette and pappardelle pastas were very delicious and done just right. The entrees of leg of lamb, grilled quail and tagliata were excellent. We had been looking forward to dining here for several years. When we discovered that they had a Raviolo Uovo on the menu, we felt that now is the time to find what we thought would be one of the true gems of Melrose. We arrived and were escorted to a tiny table in a row of other tiny tables. The general ambience seemed snooty and pretentious right off the bat. Things got worse when we were finally confronted with our waiter who looked as if they had taken a rib from portly Mario Batali and made this dreadful and pushy server. After finally bringing us waters he announced that we would have to order everything at once so that they could put the orders in. Given that we often dine at five star restaurants, we were offended by his lack of trust in our ability to order off the menu without him condescending to tell us what a Prima and Seconda Piatti are. Nonetheless, my wife had her heart set on the Raviolo Uovo. I ordered the linguini I clams which ended up being one of the worst I have ever had. Four tiny manila clams in a overly spicy red sauce and the linguine, over done. At one point the server was ignoring us so much that when the bus person came around she said is there anything I can get you? I simply blurted out: a new waiter please. The disaster continued to escalate as my wife was served the alleged Raviolo Uovo. It's supposed to come with a brown butter but instead it came burned in burned butter. The egg itself was supposed to be runny and hardly cooked. Instead it was totally hard boiled. After paying our inflated tab we finally left as hateful stares glared at us from the condescending and artificially effete maître d' staff. The Trader Joe's Burrata is vastly superior and comes without the attitude and condescension of the Mario Batali staff.

We have dined at Osteria Mozza numerous times. The service has always been impeccable and the cuisine divine. For some reason the service on this occasion was lacking ( had to flag down the bus boy several times ) and we actually had to send back my husbands entree. They were how ever spot on with the appetizers and as always the shredded Brussels sprouts were heaven.

The food, as always, is top notch... ranging from the mozzerella menu all the way to the MP ribeye. Service is impeccable - I think the shortest amount of time to see the serving staff fold a napkin at our table when getting up was 15 seconds. Top class all the way. wine list great - atmosphere great - service all the way from entrance to leaving was great. \n\nMy only critique for improvement would be the choice of music. They seem to have the music set on a station that had pumping jazz... too much bass in the music so all that can be heard was the drum beats that became annoying after awhile. Music atmosphere is part of the ultimate experience and that stuck out like a sore drum.

We luck out and were seated in small dining room off the main dinning room, much quieter. I did survey the wine list and it was stellar. I did bring a wine from my cellar. When we decided what were going to eat, I knew that the well aged Cab that I brought would go well the food. It did. We started with an meat antipasti (various salamis and duck) which was fabulous. Since we weren't that hungry we just had a secondi (rabbit and roasted quail). Both were delicious. Best rabbit I have had in a long time. I was easily able to find parking place on a nearby street

I was so disappointed. The leek and mustard burrata appetizer was just gross. When I talked to the waiter about it, he dismissed my feedback as 'lots of people love it,' which doesn't really address my experience. Also, the waiter called my date and I 'bro' over and over and over again. I found that jarring. He also encouraged us to get way too much food even though we stated we were staying in a hotel and didn't want leftovers. When we had pretty much our entire secondi courses wrapped up to go, he said 'bro! so much better than room service at 3am!' I will stick to Pizzeria Mozza in the future.

Osteria Mozza was a bit disappointing given all the hype of celebrity chefs and reviews touting the 'Best Italian Restaurant in LA...' First the pros: Service; attentive, friendly and not overbearing. I was impressed when our waiter was busy with other patrons, another staff member would immediately step in without me having to ask. As far the food; I had mixed feelings. When I first glanced at the menu I thought wow; looks really tantalizing. Lot's of potentially savory dishes. A bit pricey, but if great, it would have been worth it. We started off with three apps: grilled Spot Prawns, bufala mozzarella/speck/peas, fried soft-shell crab with 'Green Goddess' (Huh?) on a bed of greens and some melon. Strange mix. The prawns were very good, with an amazing sweet roe inside. The portion size was miniscule. The other two were mediocre, lacking flavor and quite pedestrian. Everything seemed to be drenched in too much olive oil. The main courses: Whole grilled Orata - nice, with heavy herb and wood charred flavor. Veal Breast Straccotto with funghi misti. The waiter pre-warned me that it would be a very rich dish, and it was. Way too much excess fat that I had to cut away to get to the braised veal meat which was actually quite tasty. The funghi were superb. Overall, I gave three stars, but certainly not worth the price at that level of quality. I think the main problem is that the preparation and plating were amateurish, not up to par with other high-end italian restaurants in LA.

Osteria Mozza continues to be one of LA's best restaurants, Italian or otherwise. The pasta is perfectly cooked, carefully prepared, often seasonal, and easy to share. The wine list is massive, and while daunting, the sommelier team is always willing to talk it out for any budget. As opposed to the nearly static dessert menu at the Pizzeria, desserts actually change at the Osteria, which is a nice surprise to end a meal. I love this restaurant.

Osteria Mozza is a safe bet when you feel like good Italian food. We've been there many times and it seems the menu was not changed, maybe ever as in ' if it ain't broke why fix it?'. Food is very good, execution is beautiful, tasty and delicate in flavors, traditional to the point of a bit boring , portions are on the smaller side so if you are not ordering a 4 course meal ( pasta is a 'primo') you might leave slightly hungry. Wine list is still impressive so is the attentive service. We ordered 2 small appetizers , 2 pasta dishes and one dessert along with coffee and carafe of wine and ended up with an expected very high bill. The place seems a bit dated. \nThere are many good and new Italian restaurants in L.A with some exciting menus and not as expensive ( also vallet is $12!!)so we will probably give them a shot next time

fresh and solid italian food with many intersting choices and lovely pasta and burrata. \nBUT: the dinning room ambiance makes me reconsider coming back each time- though i often end up doing it - only for the food...\n1) their AC is always pumping out cold air- i often bring a jacket and a pashmina to cover up, but i still think it is too cold to fully relax and enjoy. it seems completely unnecessary and a total waste of electricity....\n2) noise level: super high.... which isn't helped by the really bad and way too loud music played there. Really bad acoustics.\n3) the waiters take away plates before the entire party has finished their dishes. I think its rude.\n4) we have NEVER gotten to our table right away - even when we are on time and the restaurant isn't full, we are always ushered to the bar first. I come here to eat and not to hang at the loud and often to crowded bar.

Food was excellent--terrific pastas, outstanding wine list--but service was not comparably high. Our first course (from the mozzarella tasting menu) took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. The sommelier set our wine out of reach, away from the table, and then no one attended to refilling wine glasses. Most diners in our group were enjoying sparkling water, but the one diner who requested still water kept having her glass refilled with sparkling water by busboys and waiters who weren't clued in. There was an odd waitstaff hand-off in the middle of our dinner where our original waiter dropped by the table to say cheerfully, 'I'm being taken off the floor.' The waitress who was taking over our table kept saying to him (again, joking, but in a bizarre and tone-deaf way), 'Go! Get out! You're too short!' The whole thing was very odd.

The long list of ingredients in every dish are unnecessarily complicated. Our entire party wanted to like the dishes so much that nobody spoke about them and everyone left much on their plate. The first time I went to Mozza Osteria I had a wonderful experience, so much so that I was thrilled to take a foodie friend with me when he visited L.A. We made a 7:30 reservation for the Sunday night before Labor Day. We got there a little early--checked in with the hostess--and were happy to hang out at the bar and have a cocktail while waiting. \n\nThe bar service was very, very slow, but the drinks were perfect.\n\n7:30 came and went with no one checking in.\n\nAt 7:45 I asked about our reservation. The hostess acted frazzled and told me she was working on it.\n\nAfter several more inquiries, we finally got seated. A lovely gentleman (the maitre d?) took us to our table, offering many apologies and an appetizer on the house. While I appreciated the gesture, it missed the mark. We never would have ordered that particular appetizer and would have preferred having a drink comped or some appetizer of our choosing comped. \n\nHowever, I was certain the entrees we ordered would make it all worth while. But none of our dishes was spectacular. The Bolognese and the linguine with clams were both a bit flat. The desserts were also a bit dry and unremarkable. \n\nAnd the sommelier: When I asked her to recommend a wine, she went straight to some of the priciest bottles on the menu. Then when I told her I would study the menu a bit more, she condescendingly said, 'Do you want me to show you something in a particular price range?' She should have asked that from the start. I finally ordered a $130 bottle of cab, which seemed to irritate her.\n\n$500 later, we left a bit disappointed. We've never had a bad experience at Mozza Pizzeria. Perhaps we'll stick to that.

So took 5:45 and when we arrived they would not seat us until the rest of the party was there and their waiting area is very small. Times before I was able to get 6:30 by calling 3 weeks in advance and did not have to wait at the door till the rest of our party arrived. \n\nAs it turned out we were seated around 5:50 and the six of us enjoyed ourselves so much we were there till 9:30. Painful noise level that seems to be the standard in Los Angeles lately. My wife and I could not communicate. The facility appears to have removed any semblance of noise dampening, which causes patrons to shout to be heard. The waiter felt it was necessary to explain the different courses (not needed) by shouting in my right ear. We have dined all over the world and Italy in particular many times and have not been assaulted by noise in this manner, coupled with the waiter's belief that only he knew what each course meant. On our way out the door, someone in my party had such a fabulous time she decided to purchase a cookbook. We stood looking at the hostess for several minutes, trying to get help. She was off in her own world, not even working. Finally we politely interrupted her reverie state to ask for help, and she bluntly said, 'If you want to buy a cookbook I'm going to need a credit card.' Then she snatched the card out of hand and stomped off, wordlessly. It was really shocking and made us feel bad, and left us feeling unwelcome. All the time and money we'd spent there in a celebratory mood was instantly erased, replaced by feeling like we had to dignify ourselves somehow. I'm not the type to erase all the stars for one person's bad behavior, but it was extremely rude and unnecessary, and I hope this woman is removed from her post. I cannot recommend this place to anyone on account of how the evening ended.

I have been wanting try Osteria Mozza for years and finally got the chance last week. The food is everything you think it will be - perfection. My issue was the service. My waiter was delightful but definitely overwhelmed. When a table of 4 is paying $600 for a meal I expect my water filled, drinks offered, napkin folded and food delivered in a timely manner. None of that happened. We were sat at a table right next to the bar which happens to get very crowded so one person at our table was constantly being bumped into. It was the worst table in the place. Honestly if I had spent $150 for the meal I wouldn't complain that much again at $200 per person I expect near perfection.

This is my number one favorite la restaurant. Yes, it's expensive, but it's the quality of the meat and the imaginative dishes that make me keep com g back. The pizza is of course a signature, but the rib eye is the very best steak in L.a.\n\nIdeally, someone else is buying! $102.00 for steak seems somewhat insane (what's the extra 2 bucks for?)...

Our reservation was at 9:30pm, we got there 9:20pm. They made us stand at the bar, where there was really no room, extremely crowded with people eating right where we were forced to stand; very uncomfortable to invade people's eating like that. We had a glass of wine, and by 9:55pm we were still not seated. My husband talked to the maitre'd who said a table was occupied with people who were sitting there half an hour after eating, weren't leaving, etc. whatever. We were finally seated 10:08pm. A waiter took our order, they brought a courtesy appetizer, but then we were without food for another 20 minutes. We got our ordered appetizers and then our main course didn't come for another eternity. After desert we actually left the restaurant at 11:50pm. It was ridiculously slow. \nWith respect to the food, which is usually excellent, it was not as good this time. The orecchiette were extremely salty, just way too much salt, and my husband's pasta was way too sweet. My college age boys enjoyed their food but it was not a 'wow' like the last time in August.\nMaybe the restaurant has turned into more of a bar-scene and has lost the culinary side, with perfect food and excellent service. Or maybe something happened in the kitchen/system and things got behind and kind of fell apart. Whatever it was, it was not a good experience for us. On top of it all, it is not a cheap place, quite expensive; we don't mind paying top dollar for restaurants, have done so many many times, but it has to be top food and service also.\nProbably won't return.

The service absolutely ruined our experience. It took over 2 hours and we had to cancel one of the entrees because it was taking so long. Did they ask to take it off the bill? Nope. Our waiter also convinced us to order more food than we needed. It took 30 minutes before our order was taken and over 45 minutes in between out appetizers and our entree. It was like we were forgotten the whole night. Not only will I never go back to Mozza or reccommend it to anybody but I will try my best to convince people never to go there. It ruined our anniversary.

Great service, inventive menu and wine, wine, wine.\nBurrata and Braised Leeks with mustard vinaigrette, Insalata Mista and Tagliatelle with Oxtail Ragu paired well together. When the maitre d' asked us at the end of the meal how everything was, the only word I could think of was 'superb'. And that is exactly how our entire dining experience was at Mozza. Every single detail was perfection-- the food (amazing, simply amazing), the ambience (lively but not noisy, and beautifully decorated), the service (our server Madeleine and her team were fantastic), the timing of the each course (never rushing us but never making us wait either-- such attention!), even right down to the temperature of each dish (I've had a number of lukewarm meals served at some pricy and well-regarded establishments-- grrr). Literally every single element of the dining experience was superb. And Nancy Silverton's ability to blend and/or layer flavors is simply incomparable-- what a meal!! What an evening! As a longtime food server, I know very well how challenging it is to be so perfect in every single way, but Mozza has it down. Incredible. Bravo!

This was our 4th visit here and we made reservations weeks in advance. As always, the food and service were impeccable. Plan on spending at least 90 minutes to 2 hours for dinner if you order an appetizer and/or dessert along with your entrees, especially during weekend nights. But the food is worth the wait. However, if you are a couple expecting a romantic dinner, look elsewhere. The majority of the 'couple' tables are 2-seaters, which are placed side-by-side so that you are literally only 12-24 inches away from the 2-seater table next to you. You are forced to basically eat dinner with strangers, as well as listen to their conversations whether you like to or not, since there is hardly any space between the tables. And if you have to get up to use the restroom, you have to stick your rear-end in faces of strangers since there is no room in between the tables to maneuver. Parties of 3 or more are given better tables with more space in the middle of the room, but couples are forced to eat in 'communal' settings. Obviously, making reservations ahead of time doesn't prevent this. For the menu prices, you'd expect a little more privacy. We won't be returning unless we have at least 4 people in our party. Maybe then we'd get a better table without complaining.

If you have never been to a restaurant that specializes in fabulous local and imported mozzarella, go to Osteria Mozza and enjoy! You can sit at the bar and watch as the wonderful dishes are prepared by the chefs just like in a sushi bar or you can order the wonderful dishes from tables. For starters we ordered the Burrata and Grilled Asparagus and the Burrata and Cavier, and for our main entrees we ordered the Squid Ink Chitarra Freddi (purposely served cold), Gnocchi with duck ragu, and the Linguine with clams, pancetta, and spicy Fresno chiles. We also had the sauteed spinach and 2 desserts (Apple Borsellino and Bombolini). I wasn't nearly as impressed with our main course decisions as I was wonderfully impressed by the mozzarella specialties! Also, the wine list contains only Italian vintages, so don't hesitate to seek the help of the Sommelier. If we return to Osteria Mozza, we will concentrate on the Mozzarella Bar dishes!

My husband and I had dinner here with my parents on March 4th, it was a really good meal.\n\nFor our main courses we had each of the 4 different fish main courses - if they're still available I'd highly recommend the branzino (bream) wrapped in chicory and the yellow tail. The yellow tail was the most surprising dish - unlike any tuna dish I'd had before but totally delicious.\n\nThe team were all very helpful, explaining any terms on the menu we were unfamiliar with and making suggestions. \n\nThe only point I'd really mark down is that the wine list is remarkably expensive. There are only a handful of bottles below $70, and nothing below $55 - but plenty over $200. The attached Pizzeria Mozza has a decent selection of $40-$60 wines - I don't know why some more or these aren't included on the Osteria wine list. \n\nA note on courses / quantities - we didn't want a huge meal so we shared 1 item from the mozzarella bar and 1 primi plate of pasta to start; we each had a main course with 2 side orders of vegetables between us; followed by 2 deserts between 4. This was plenty enough food but didn't leave us feeling over-full, I certainly couldn't manage the full 4 courses that are available!

My darling foodie of a sweetheart and I are often separated by distance for long agonizing periods of time, but to our glee, he got to come to LA for two days! I gave him his belated Valentine creation, part of which was a heart I'd cut out from one of Mozza's paper napkin-sleeves. When he saw it, he basically became a fountain of drool. And so, of course, we went to have dinner again at Mozza. Dream date spot. It'll be a tradition whenever he's in town now. We'll save up for it financially and droolically. It is so unbelievably delicious and everyone who works there (hi Rick!) is so lovely. And we enjoyed toying with the brass creatures on the bar. The music is always good. The mozzarella was good but the veal was super-fatty and the trout very salty. Not one of the five of us thought the meal was more than ok. Better to stick to the pizzeria if anything. We have used both Osteria and Pizzeria for various occasions and their service is awesome. Ambience is awesome with a great buzz. We enjoyed the prompt attention and service. Unfortunately, I was a bit (just a bit) disappointed with the squid ink pasta. We always order this, but there seemed to be an overuse of lemon juice that killed the fragrance of ink, uni, and crab. This pasta has to be served cold to enjoy all of rhis and it just tasted like pasta salad. Same goes for the side salad rucola on the thinly sliced steak. Other than that, cocktails, service, experience, ambience, food (everything else) were all worth it! I will give it another try. Easy with the lemons please!

Were seated promptly. Restaurant is loud and vibrant. Food arrives very slowly but well worth the wait. The Burrata bar is simply delicious and one of the best new experiences I have had in a restaurant. We had 4 dishes from the burrata menu and all were excellent. Try the burrata and caviar, and the one with hazelnuts in particular. Antipasti was octopus - the best octopus I have ever tasted (smoky, briny goodness); pig trotter (interesting, although i would have prefered this in a terrine or as a spread like pate; couple salads that were interesting but nothing to write about. Primi was calf's brain ravioli (Yes i said calf's brain and it was delicious, delicate, interesting and kept making us all go back to it); egg and ricotta ravioli (insanely decadent; bolognese (super duper meaty, different, delish). Main was quail (yummy, sweet, smokey); yellowtail (dry and boring); sweetbreads (if you are a fan, don't pass these up they are crispy and not squeaky at all). Dessert was ho hum all around except for the grandma's tart, and coffee was simply terrible. I expect a great espresso and cappuccino in a high end italian restaurant. I didn't get one.

We began our meal for four properly: Two rounds of 'Mozza'. First the house special Burrata then the Bufala. Both had a textured shell that when opened oozed with creamy delight. We followed that with the grilled octopus which was charred to perfection and rather hearty on portions (always appreciated when it comes to my octopus). \nWe then moved to Pasta: A delicious Tagliatelle with oxtail ragu, Pappardelle with rabbit ragu, and the tortellini in Brodo. The ragu were both spot on: handmade pasta cooked to al-dente delight. I could taste the countryside of Italy (where I have been) in each bite. No overwhelming butter or oil - just pure delicate dough taste cooked in fresh salty water (but not too salty). The Ragu was rich with flavor and left my mouth yearning for the next bite. The true surprise was the Tortellini. Served as a bowl of plain handmade pasta, the sauce or 'broth' is later poured hot from a kettle. Tortellini in a chicken noodles soup? Something like that. But the true surprise and delight of the meal. It was inventive and fresh; rejuvenating in a way. I loved it.\nWe also shared a large Porcini Rubbed Rib Eye that was pre cut to our liking and cooked medium rare (although we requested medium). I picked up the bone to gnaw on it, then passed to my friends so they could share in the delight. Yes it was that good.\nFinished with the signature Olive Oil & Ice Cream. My review of that? I ordered a second round of it!\n* My only complaint. It was a little bit loud in the main area.

It was my second visit to the Osteria. The food was excellent, and I have nothing but praise for it. Our server was helpful with our menu selections, including wine pairings. We split each course, starting with Burrata & Caviar and following with the Affettati Misti with Gnocco Fritto. For the pasta course, we went for something bold, choosing the Maltagliati with lamb ragu. At this point is when things went awry with the service. First, our server told us that he would be taking a break. This was odd, given it was the middle of dinner service and this is a fine dining restaurant (right?). We then waited... and waited... and waited for the main course to arrive. After about 40 minutes with no food and not a single person checking on us, one of us got up (!) and found a manager, who came back to the table to assure us he would find out what happened. He came back and said it would be five more minutes. It was actually more like another 10 minutes, then our main course of Pan Roasted Sea Trout was delivered. With things back on track, we finished our meal and enjoyed dessert. Given the rather unacceptable delay between our Primi and Secondi courses, I would've expected the restaurant to 'make it right' by at least comping a glass of wine or dessert, but they failed to do anything, and I shouldn't have to ask. I really enjoyed the food but was quite disappointed by this misstep during the service and then an insufficient acknowledgement that it was an issue. We happened to notice that the tables on either side of us were neglected throughout their meals as well.

We were severely disappointed and walked out ... Waitress was below -par recommendations were pompous and only about $$, one of our guests explained she had a wheat allergy and the response was 'so can you eat bread?'- seriously?! We placed our order and ask for help with the wine selection - it never happened. We asked for another server and after twenty minutes some one came to the table asking us to move our table - we explained we just wanted a new server. Fifty five minutes ... No wine no food no service ... We walked. The floor Mgr followed us out of the restaurant offer no apology only excuses. We can only recommend a great bus boy who gave us water.

Why do restaurants like this one, that have so much potential, treat you like you're a class Z citizen? I don't often spend $100+ per person for dinner and when I do, I expect a great time. We loved the food, but the experience was ok. lots of rude and 'entitled'-ness from the hosts and servers.

We had a reservation for 8:30 but was not seated till after 9. The front had a bit of attitude. We order food and wine. It takes 20 minutes to get two burrata dishes and an octopus dish. We watch the table next to us finish their meal and other patrons arrive. We wait. The table next to us receive their food. After an hour our three pastas arrive but are cold and need to be sent back. They bring out another burrata to share while we wait. By this time it is 10:30 and I have lost my patience. We tell the waiter to please bring the main course with the pastas. By the time we leave it is midnight. Should not have to ask for the wine to be poured, bread or be served cold food. This is a highly rated restaurant? Second time here and it is the last.

Our 7 person party had a vegetarian and a steak and potatoes guy. I let the waiter know and thought he would show an interest in helping them make some choices. Perhaps make a few enthusiastic recommendations or talk to the chef about some options. When they asked for substitutions or to leave out the meat (even on the veges), the guest was told no. When asked if the $104 steak could be served without the porcini rub, we were told there was not one steak in the kitchen that wasn't pre-rubbed. One guest was drinking a grapefruit juice mixed drink, later when he asked for a glass of straight grapefruit juice he was told that the restaurant didn't serve it. \nWe went to this restaurant hoping for a fun holiday celebration, we spent a considerable amount of money and basically had a lousy time. \n\nAll this was topped off when the staff started clearing our table, took our wine glasses away while we still had 3/4 of our decanted bottle of wine on the sideboard. \n\nDoesn't matter how good the food was!

The service appeared to be nicely choreographed throughout the entire meal. It started with the sparkling water service followed by the appearance of our waitress who was quite knowledgeable about the menu and the suggested plan of attack. Service transitioned into the bread choice, then the appetizer course, the primi course, second course, and ultimately, dolce.\nTiming between the courses was planned well. The dishes making up a course all came out at once, usually brought by two staff. There were four of us. We ordered two appetizers, 4 pastas, 2 main courses, and dessert. The $20 to $30 wines by the glass are actually a hefty pour (1/3 bottle). The pasta courses were stellar: oxtail, rabbit, butternut squash, and eggplant & olive. Not a dud among them. The main courses of duck and beef medallions with arugula were cooked to perfection. We ordered olive oil gelato and eggnog gelato for dessert. Awesome. \n\nThe restaurant is not one you'll go to every night. (You can't,... you need about a month in advance reservation for prime times) But it's one you'll remember when you do visit them. I suggest you share everything for a versatile dining experience.

This restaurant was suggested by a co-worker. Reviews on-line were very positive. I was able to get a same-day reservation at 5:30, which happens to be when they open (so don't arrive too early)! We were seated in a nice corner table (getting there early has benefits), and the server came around fairly quickly for our drink order. She recommended the perfect wine after asking us our preferences. We ordered the Smoked Bufala Mozzarella and the Shaved Brussels Sprouts to start - both were delicious but you may need to ask for more bread to enjoy the prosciutto and cheese with. My husband had the goat cheese ravioli and I had the Bucatini all' Amatriciana, which was recommended by our server. Both dishes were amazing but the Bucatini all' Amatriciana had the best flavor and I would definitely order it again. For dessert, we ordered the Apple Borsellino which was also perfection and was brought to us with a lit candle for our anniversary. This is a fairly pricey night out, but it was perfect for our occasion. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something special.

We arrived at Osteria Mozza with great expectations after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. We were seated quickly but didn't see a server for almost 10 minutes. The Sommelier eventually greeted us and was clearly trained in salesmanship and The wine we agreed on was wonderful. We went for the house made pastas and Osteria Mozza did not disappoint. We shared two delicious starters and each ordered a pasta dish. The always on the menu Garganelli Bolognese was the stand out and my husband's potato gnocci with ragu was also delicious. Our excellent waiter recommended a sweet/ sour roast pepper side to compliment our pastas as they were both quite rich it would cut through some of the richness. Spot on. The wines by the glass were lovely and since we wanted different varietals we opted for this over a bottle. Dessert was also amazing - a perfect end to the meal. I would go back a million times just for the pasta and the wonderful service, but everything was exceptional. The lighting is perfect (dim but you can still see what you are eating!) and it is clearly a popular place since we ate at a very early 5:15 reservation time - it was full all night so book ahead! I had a friend and her traveling companion visiting from Austin, TX. We had not seen each other in a long time. I suggested taking them to dinner and inquired as to the type of food they liked. One of the first suggestions was Italian and I immediately thought of Osteria Mozza. Although I have heard it was difficult to make reservations, I easily made reservations on line. The Buffala with Condiments we ordered as appetizer was simply sumptuous. Our main course dishes were absolutely divine. After hearing what a wonderful place this was, we finally tried it. The service was outstanding!\nthe space and energy great. BUT the food was a disaster. From the entire meal, only the fig appetizer was good and it was very good. The burrata and leeks was overly salty and oily. The rabbit was so incredibly salty as to be inadible, and the beans were cloyingly garlicky and of course, oily and salty (notice a pattern?). I love garlic, salt and olive oil, but for a restaurant of Osteria Mozza's reputation this unsophisticated preparation was unacceptable. My husband and I went to Osteria Mozza to celebrate my birthday. We made the reservation 5 days in advance, but the earliest we could get a reservation was for Saturday at 9.45 pm. After waiting for 25 minutes, we got our table (way far in the back, nothing like I was planning to spend a special night). The first server that took our order seemed nice, but she never said anything about us celebrating a special occasion. After her the service got even worse since many different servers will come and go and they did not care about us being served. Although the appetizer and the first round of pasta arrived quickly to the table, the second round of past (yes, we ordered 2 dishes each) took more than 20 minutes to arrive to out table and by then we were not hungry anymore. By the time we got the dessert, which came without a candle or a birthday wish, the restaurant was closing. We spent over $150 and we felt that we did not get the food and service experience we were looking for. It's a shame because the pasta was ok (nothing really special though), but I honestly regret picking Osteria Mozza as the place to celebrate my birthday.

We still had not been to Osteria Mozza for dinner, and finally this week we went for an anniversary celebration meal. Superb. Our server was helpful, fun, enthusiastic, and down to earth. we chose a burrata / speck / pomodoro over toast and the tripe parmigiana for starters. We shared a tagliatelle verde with lamb ragu, the roasted rabbit with sausage, and a side of sautéed spinach. Everything was impeccable. Rich but balanced Italian flavors with French precision. I highly recommend the tripe and the rabbit; they were so very good. We tried 2 of the signature cocktails and were not disappointed there either . Had 2 half-caraffes of a Piemonte with the pasta and main dish, and our server was very good In selecting the wine to our taste requests (red/ light bodied but not too fruit-forward). We've had it in Rome, and we love pepper, but there was just too much pepper in it. Also, we were at a table right next to a servers' station. Our table of five was shocked. We had to request the Sommelier five times and she was unhelpful. We waited an hour for her! Wait staff was inexperienced, bothering to explain the concept of antipasti, primi & secondi. Come on. The place is $150 a person +, seriously give your patrons a little credit, we know how to order Italian food. We live in LA. Could there be more Italian for per square inch outside of Italy? The worst of it was the food. Crazy salty. Over cooked fish. I prefer al dente pasta, but this was way way undercooked. I should have sent the Brussels sprouts (recommended and nearly inedible) and the dry, over cooked, salty and lacking in any flavor of a fish (orata- which I love) back. Cannot imagine how a Michelin star was earned. I'll stick to the exceptional Italian in my neighborhood- Gjelina & Tasting Kitchen. I love a great meal, whether the most simple fare or the most extravagant. This was outrageously over priced for the quality.

The grilled octopus was cooked such that it was very tender, which is difficult to do since octopus is often tough. We then had the oxtail tagliatelle which was very meaty and hearty. The sweet corn cappellaci with chanterelle mushrooms was delicious and light and sweet. I then had the rabbit con salsiccia that was cooked brilliantly with garlic and rosemary. I've been a big fan of Joe Bastianich and have been eager to try this restaurant. I went a few months with a few girlfriends for drinks and we just sat at the bar and some appetizers. It was a great environment and the bartender was fantastic - recommending wine based on the appetizers we had ordered and asking us about our general likes and dislikes. Based on that great evening, I was really looking forward to bringing my husband back (who is a bit of a fussy eater). We're big foodies and enjoy traveling the world to try great restaurants. We visited this week with another couple to celebrate a friend's birthday. The waitress we had was wonderful when making recommendations - being very matter of fact about what each dish would be like and recommending a dish, then telling us why (instead of just saying, 'My favorite is xx.'). Long story short - we all ordered 4 courses (appetizers, pasta, entrees and dessert). I am completely unable to find one bad thing to say about what we ate. It was so delicious we began sharing our plates so we could all try a bit. The mozzarella appetizers were all delicious. The two dishes that were absolute stand outs were the orecchiette with sausage and the porcini encrusted rib eye steak. Both are NOT to be missed. Based on the number of dishes we sampled, I really don't think you can go wrong with anything. This is now of my favorite restaurants!

Food was superb. The pasta was just fantastic. We had the linguine with clams, squid ink pasta, agnolotti, gnocchi and orrechiete. Then we had the porcini rubbed ribeye and whole orata. Everything tasted great. The kitchen was a little slower but we didn't mind the pace. Our server was John and he was just great!

This restaurant has been around for awhile and still does not disappoint. Great for a Client dinner or a special occasion.\n\nMy only critique would be they should change up the menu. I continue to come back on all my LA trips, and the menu has not changed much in the past few years. If you've never been - no problem. But for those of us who continue to come back, change it up!

As exceptional as was the food, service was even exceptional-er. John the waiter was perfect. He knew his stuff from antipastas to desserts to dessert wines. The wait staff -- there must have been four different people -- were excellent. What this all suggests is that the restaurant does an outstanding job training people, from kitchen to front desk. Oh and when I got there, my iPhone was at 3% battery. One of the hostpersons graciously said she could help me out with a lightning connector.

If you're looking for an expensive night out with some amazing food, Osteria Mozza will do nicely. They have a surprisingly large menu with multiple gems. I really enjoyed the prosciutto and smoke mozzarella and the pork shank was out of this world. I'd say its easy to order a little too much. The only negative I think is that dessert list seemed a little sparse, but the was probably for the better. I also liked that they had a sommelier, Adam, he was very helpful.

Classic Italian dishes with the Mario Batali touch that makes them outstanding. The service is top notch, drinks are delicious and the food is heavenly. The grilled octopus is the best I've ever had. Nancy's salame salad is a perfect Italian salad to start things off. The special burrata cheese is flown in from Italy for the weekend and melts in your mouth. It pairs nicely with a hunk of olive oil-drenched toasted crunchy bread. The pasta is perfectly done. I had the ricotto & egg raviolo with browned butter. Unbelievable. The veal breast for the main course was a buttery, savory delight. For dessert, I had the Piccolo Budino di Cioccolato. One of the best desserts I have ever had. You cannot even fathom how good the warm gooey chocolate and cold, crunchy butter pecan gelato and salted caramel melds together and forms a symphony in your mouth. A must try item. This is now one of my favorite restaurants. Thanks, Mario! You rock!

I love this restaurant because the food is consistently excellent. The wait staff is friendly and well-informed about the menu and the management is on top of things. However, do not expect to be seated at your reservation time and be very patient as far as getting your food. It takes a while to get the bartenders' attention since they not only serve the bar patrons, but have to fill the orders for the table and also take food orders at the bar. They also are not 'bartenders', they are 'artistes'. They do not have the 'normal' top shelf alcohol, but a full bar that prides itself on excellent but small distillers. They have an extensive whiskey selection and wine list. It takes about 15 minutes to get a drink. It normally takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes to get seated IF you HAVE a reservation. Forget it if you don't. I have been back 6-7 times because the food is amazing.

Everything about Osteria Mozza gets an A+ in my book. From being greeted and seated we felt welcomed. The staff is very personable and professional. We enjoyed a perfectly prepared grilled octopus salad followed by a trio of burrata cheeses served with grilled garlic butter sourdough lightly dusted with sea salt. OMG - mouthwatering delicious. Of course their pasta dishes are expertly executed and each one I have tried are delicious. I particularly love the lamb ragu and the orecchiette. Both pasta dishes have wonderful sauces. this was our 4th visit, and we don't plan to return. we were really excited to go back to mozza's after our previous dinners there, but all 4 of us felt the meal friday night was nothing special, -which isn't acceptable at those prices. the mozzarella bar was the best thing we ate, but not as good as i remember. the pastas were bland, but we did enjoy the ricotta gnudi. our grilled orata was raw at the bones, although the flatiron tagliata steak was delicious. \nquick question. why do they take your wine bottle off the table? so they can pour a glass for themselves in the back? the wine list is kind of ridiculous with the cheapest bottles of decent red being $75. i think they take themselves too seriously - which i guess they can do since it was a full house. but we honestly had much better meals in westwood and santa monica without the hype. again, sadly disappointed

My wife is from Italy (Milano) and a fantastic cook. Which means I normally can't eat in peace at any Italian restaurants. Her dishes are always taste better, fatto a mano, and made for less. I take her out for what I think is going to be a nice dinner, and I end up getting berating during the ride home for spending a paycheck on something she made better in her teens. ... And she right. Always right.\n\nWell, this joint killed that noise. Osteria Mozza.\n\nThe only reason I didn't give five stars across the board is because I'm leaving room for my next visits (note: plural). I'm just going to list what we had and sum it up by saying that upon first bite my wife simply stated, 'wow.' \n\n - Ribollita ' Da Delfina, Burrata (bacon, marinated escarole & caramelized shallots), Francobolli di Brasato, and Bavette Cacio e Pepe. For drinks we had Lambrusco. -\n\nA surprising new taste or a perfectly executed classic dish, every bite left us wanting more. I can't wait to go back. Grazie per la tranquillità.

The burratta bar was extraordinary & we did a couple of choices from that in addition to a couple of appetizers. Then came some of the best pasta we've ever enjoyed. My daughter is gluten free & they had that available too. All of the entrees were excellent as well. The wine list is all Italian so I needed some help with the choices but the sommelier made a nice recommendation that went well with everyone's meal! this is the place to come. Reservation or no reservation, you have to wait to be seated for at least 20 minutes. After being seated you have to wait another 20-30 minutes before your order is taken.\nYou have to ask for complimentary bread or you won't get any. \nAnd they make you wait and wait and wait in-between courses (I don’t like being rushed but 20-30 minutes in-between the different courses is just too long). And the best part of it all ... come dessert time: they have run out of most of them leaving you to go home completely unsatisfied. \nThe food we got might have been all right. Heck, it might have been delicious if service had been good and frfiendly, if timing had been good and ... if there had been a dessert ... I won't come back and wouldn’t recommend this ordeal - that doesn’t come cheap - to anyone.

The one thing we didn't care for was the olive oil cake dessert - some people recommended it to us, and I knew it wouldn't be a traditional sweet dessert but it was not dessert like at all (savory all the way)- so I wouldn't order it again, but I will definitely go back to this restaurant.

I invited my girlfriend to Osteria Mozza for her birthday as she had been eyeing the place for some time. I made reservations two weeks in advance and indicated in the notes that it was a birthday occasion. We arrived a few minutes before the reservation and I mentioned that the birthday girl was here. They asked us to wait at the bar for our table and we enjoyed some very tasty cocktails. We were seated right by the door and I thought it was going to be noisy, but it ended up being fine. \n\nThe menu looked very good and we ordered from the mozzarella bar to start and an oxtail pasta which were both very good. We share everything so, for our mains, she ordered rabbit and I ordered the bone-in rib-eye which was MP. The mozzarella and pasta were served in a relaxed and not a rushed manner. \n\nIt did seem to take at least 30 minutes after the pasta plates were cleared to serve the mains. When the main entrees were served, the rabbit was excellent and the seasoning on the bone-in rib-eye was superb. However, the rib-eye seemed to have an excessive amount of gristle throughout the meet. I mentioned this to our server and he immediately took it too the kitchen. He later returned and indicated that the meat typically has gristle near the bone and offered to have the chef slice the meet from the bone. As it was getting late, we asked the server to box the rabbit and rib-eye. When I received the bill, the MP rib-eye was priced at $102. And lastly, there was no mention of my girlfriend's birthday\n\nThe next day we went to eat the leftovers and found that they had not packaged the rabbit and the meat that was sliced was full of gristle as well.\n\nMy overall comments are that the majority of the food and drink experiences were decent, but if Osteria Mozza is going to charge over $100 for a steak, it better be of the utmost quality and cut.

After having had dinner at our Batali restaurants and watching Joe Bastianich on TV talk to amateur chefs about quality, we really expected more. The whole grilled fish was far, far over cooked. The linguine vongole has excessive garlic that killed the fresh sweetness of the clams. The duck was brilliant and so was the pasta special - cold squid ink pasta with fresh uni. I have been here a number of times and have found it the best place in LA. That was not the case Saturday Night. Restaurants have bad nights and Saturday the kitchen was its great self but the wait staff treated my wife and me like garbage. We were not offered bread until we saw it served at the table next to us; the staff never presented the wine and I had to pour it all night; and when it came to dessert if we had not heard some extra desserts while waiting at the bar we would never have known about the desserts we eventually ordered.\n\nOn the positive side, the octopus and barata 1st courses were amazing, and my wife and I both had the veal shoulder. \n\nAfter the evening we did complain to the manager and only got a quick apology. We did not want any financial return and would have refused it anyway, but a request that we come back would have been appropriate.\n\nThis night will not stop me from coming back, but I will remind them of this night when I make that reservation.

This restaurant was our last dinner in LA vacationing from Detroit. It was wonderful! We brought or 6 & 9 year old daughters (who loved the food too), and the waitress was very sweet to them. We ordered a bunch of the small plates and had pasta as our main meal. The place is fairly expensive, but worth every penny. The ribollita was AMAZZZZZZING-- get it. Trust me. The Affettati Misti was great (crispy breadsticks slathered with truffle butter & wrapped in grissini was the best part). The Burrata with bacon, marinated escarole & caramelized shallots were my daughters' favorite. For pasta, we ordered the Corzetti Stampati (very good and fresh, very tomatoey), the Butternut Squash Mezzelune (good but a little too sweet), Bavette Cacio e Pepe (perfect-- simple pasta with cheese and pepper), and the Tortellini en brodo which was not as good as Alimento's in Silver Lake. In fact, whatever meat was used was a little overpowering and too earthy tasting for my liking, but my daughter liked it. Beautiful interior, valet parking was easy, overall a perfect send-off.

We ate here as a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. We also ate rather early in the evening, so it wasn't that loud or crowded yet. Service was excellent. Wine and spirits selection was extensive [they have fernet branca]. Many of the dishes were prepared with ingredients not easily available to the home chef [grated bottarga] or requiring a lot of effort and time [rabbit sausage, stuffed veal breast]. In terms of the cooking itself, there were a few disappointments. The amount of caviar in the burrata caviar dish was rather meager. Same goes for the octopus [considering it was $22]. The rabbit sausage was way too salty, but the rabbit legs themselves were incredible tender, as was the veal breast. They also charged quite a lot of non-alcoholic beverages. Overall, though this was a great dining experience and definitely worth going to.

I have been looking forward to finally trying this restaurant after getting rave reviews from various people. Unfortunately, our experience did not nearly live up to the hype. The service was unbelievably slow. We booked for a somewhat later dinner (8:30) on a Monday in hopes that the restaurant would not be quite so busy. In fact, the restaurant did start thinning about that time. Nonetheless, it still took us 40 minutes to get cold appetizers (antipasti, burrata, salad). The pasta also was not cooked al dente. The food was fine but not fantastic. The sommelier was quite knowledgeable and helpful. If this were a neighborhood joint that you discovered, then you would be jumping for joy. But for one of the hottest tables in LA, IMHO, it falls short of the mark. Also, the place is quite loud in spite of the high ceilings, which wears on you over a drawn out dinner.

My husband and I were in L.A. To celebrate our honeymoon and spent our first evening at Osteria. The food was amazing,The GRILLED OCTOPUS was a highlight as well as the tagliatelle and the ravlioli although everything was delicious. We also let the the host know that it was our honeymoon and we were told that if we would like we wod be able to meet Joe Bastianich as he was in the restaurant that evening, he was eating but took the time to say hello and have a small conversation which was super great. ( we are big fans of masterchef) Service, food, atmosphere, all super wonderful!

My husband and I joined another couple for a 7:45 dinner. We were promptly seated once the entire party was present, however, it took 20 minutes to get our menus and we had to ask a runner for them. Once our server arrived (30 minutes after being seated) my friends ordered some red wine; that too, took a while to come out. \n\nThere is no doubt that the food here is delicious. The grilled octopus was one of our favorites amongst the appetizers, and the Bucatini Amitricana (for the second course). For our main courses, my husband had the duck, which was cooked to perfection. I forgot the name of the fish I had, but it was a whole white fish and was also delicious. My friends husband had the Quail, and my friend had lamb. The lamb came out cold, but our server was never present to check on how our food came out.The sommelier (of all people) was kind enough to take it back and have it re-heated and he also stood by and waited to make sure that the temperature was to my friends liking. \n\nOverall, the runners, bus boys and sommelier get an A+ for service, but our waiter really did a lackluster job. Luckily, the food was amazing and we were amongst good company; which more than made up for the service.

Been there several times. The pasta dishes were beyond outstanding. This time (1/7/2015), however, the four pasta dishes we ordered were extremely salty (note: we do love salty foods). We told two different servers about this. We would NEVER return to this restaurant, even if it's free.

Took my father here for his Christmas present - was amazing \nHe was so impressed with the food quality \nWe stuffed ourselves silly! \n\nWe ordered amazing cocktails - The Gordon's Cup and the Gold Rush \nMy dad wanted the recipe for his! \n\nThe food - we ordered so much to taste a bunch of dishes and we literally cleaned each plate. \n\n\nThis is my 2nd time here and I will keep coming back \nMy dad wants to try the lamb next! haha

The food is skillfully prepared and creative. It is hard to go wrong with the food. We ordered in courses and shared everything. The waiter was helpful in describing the dishes and making recommendations. The service was prompt, though not particularly attentive (the restaurant was busy.)\n\n There is a very large selection of all Italian wines, and they tend to be pricey. The wine steward is helpful.\n\nWe went on a Monday night and the noise was unpleasantly loud. It was difficult to converse. This may be because it was two nights before new years. If you dislike noisy restaurants, you may want to ask what nights are quieter when you make your reservation.

Completely enjoyable evening. Our table was ready when we got there. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive. The assistance with our wine selection was very helpful. And all of the food was exceptional. We went with 2 other couples so we were able to try many things on the menu. From the grilled octopus to the mozzarella bar to the squid ink pasta to the rosemary olive oil gelato/cakes it was all delicious. Love the ambiance of the space. And I didn't find it overpriced for the value of the dining experience. Will definitely go back.

Aside from the absurd price for a petite ribeye and the overall snobby attitude of the waitstaff the food was pretty good. If you want to feel like they are doing you a favor for allowing you to dine there then enjoy. I personally dont feel as if there very tasty food outweighs there lack of service. The only good employee that we dealt with was the guy cleaning off our table. When we asked if we can switch our ribeye for some scallops the manager came over and told us it was already being cooked. Well a half an hour later our burnt steak comes out. I am not sure how to cook a 1/2 inch thick ribeye for 30 min but apparently they had already started it. i guess they dont like repeat customers but then again i dont think we were welcome the first time

Unlike other reviewers my server was very attentive and explained all the dishes in layman terms. Service overall was very good. The pasta dishes are not to be missed and in fact you would be better off eating the pasta as a main course although they would like you to have a main dish as well. The pasta dishes are extremely rich that together with a salad is more then enough food. I tried the Grilled Beef Tagliata and although very tasty was trenched in salt (too salty) and was slightly chewy. There are many dishes here that need to be tried and I will be returning when in the area.

Was expecting much better food. There was too much vinegar on my burrata so it killed the delicate cheese. Way too much butter sauce on my pasta. The server was overly aggressive in the up selling department. Seemed to forget us when she saw we weren't going to order a lot of food .Never asked us if we'd like to order wine. Just thought I was going to be blown away but I guess you can't believe the hype.

The waitress began by telling us the rules: you must order all the apps and entrees at once so that everything may be brought to your table on the proper schedule. OK, seemed hardcore, but, fine. So we did. \n\nThe 4 of us ordered 4 apps: 2 from the mozzarella bar and 2 from the antipasti menu. The mozzarella bar apps barely offered two people a chance for a bite let alone 4; ok, to be expected. However, what was annoying is that the table we were sitting at was so small, they actually asked us to share appetizer plates and bread plates because they couldn't fit everything on the table. OK, again.\n\nThe apps were bland and uninspired. Essentially no taste. Some texture. \n\nOur entrees came. I had the duck. It was excellent. It is hard to cook duck. The skin was crisp but not burnt. The marmalade with it, however, was utterly pedestrian. My wife had the pasta and lobster. The pasta sauce was not as good as Newman's Own. The lobster must have been raised at a lobster diet farm because it was scrawny. \n\nThe sides were...oh, wait, our sides didn't come. We asked. Yes, just one minute. Asked again, 'sorry, my mistake, they'll be out in a a few minutes.' Oh, what was that about ordering everything at one time? Asked again, 'let me check.' We were actually finished with our entrees and the server asks us if we still want them. As what, desserts? Then, she says 'don't worry, I'll take them off the bill.' You'll take the food we never received off our bill?! Great. What a huge concession. She made such a big deal about it you'd think they comped us our entire meal. \n\n A perfunctory apology. No, 'hey, let us buy you a cup of coffee or have a dessert on us.' Nothing. \n\nA character limit prevents me from listing the other problems with the service. But, there are at least 3 Italian restaurants in the Valley alone that are half-the-price and 3 times as good with better atmosphere. Osteria Mozza is way overpriced and over-rated.

Am a foodie. am a Nancy Silverton, Short order bakery, La Brea Bakery, Mozza Pizzeria fan. this was my first visit, with 3 others who'd not been before. And the 4 of us were all underwhelmed. Extremely loud, couldn't hear each other talk, literally. We shared everything, every course. Sad to say, we all felt the dessert course was the best. But saddest of all was there was nothing I felt I had to go again for. Fabulous server Ricky. but overall, disappointed.

Good server however busser needs more fine dining training. The wine in the carafe needs to be poured into the empty glass. Empty glasses need to be cleared as well as placement of silverware needs to be refined., Amuse buche sp? wasn't memorable and we felt it didn't represent mario batali and nancy silverton. The duck was explained as a Peking duck but was more a duck confit. The duck however was very good. The squid pasta was a bit too spicy tho it is difficult to control the jalapeño hotness. Flavor was great but jalapeño overpowered it. Excellent finish with great coffee and italian donut like dessert. Ambiance was top notch!\n\nI've always enjoyed Babbo in New York and wish the pasta tasting menu was still featured in LA.

Food was spectacular. Service professional and warm without smothering. The only problem was that I noted it was my wife's birthday on the Open Table reservation online when I made it, but it was never acknowledged in any way by any of the staff at Mozza. I don't know if this was a mistake on the Open Table side or the restaurant side, or if my expectations were misguided if they don't do candles on the dessert order, or even a polite acknowledgement by the service staff. Otherwise still a memorable meal, one of the best I've had all year.

The food was great but expensive and we know that going in. We asked for the back area as it is a bit more quite so we could talk as there were two couples. The area was very noisy as they seated two male parties of 6 on both sides of us and they were having fun and were very loud. We asked to be seated and they said they could take care of us. Our server wasn't very attentive and seems distracted.

Took a few weeks to get a weekend reservation so was looking forward to this meal. The first 2 courses were excellent I had the Affettati Misi and my Girlfriend had the Mozzarella Tasting. Only complaint was I couldn't taste any truffle butter on the Prosciutto with Grissini. The Burrata was amazing. For the 2nd course we had the Butternut Squash Pasta with Black Truffles which was perfect. I had the Calf Brain ravioli which was great.\n\nI ordered the Duck for the main and this was a bad choice. Dish was bland and dry and not anywhere near worth $38. My girlfriend had the grilled Orata which was well seasoned but was also dry. Had 2 sides a Bean Dish that was good and the spinach with garlic was under seasoned.\n\nDessert we had the Bombolini which was very good.\n\nGo for the apps and the pasta, be careful on the entrees.

First time to this restaurant and the food and service was outstanding. From previous reviews we read, we totally agree with all the compliments on the food. This is NOT your typical Italian restaurant - don't go there expecting your traditional spaghetti or ravioli. \n\nOne comment we read from other reviewers critiqued the service - slow and inattentive. Order the octopus, you won't be disappointed. It's unlike any we have ever tried. Also the burriatta was amazing. Duck was cooked to perfection, tender and falling off the bone. Yet had a nice skin from being cooked under a brick. A few mistakes were made by our server. But he quickly corrected things and he was by no means, a bad server. Wine list is extensive, albeit expensive. They do allow two bottles per table for a $30 corkage fee per bottle, just FYI.

Osteria Mozza serves the most creative dishes that I know. They offered white truffles for my pasta last night which I happily accepted! My wife and I asked to be led by our waitress. Everything she suggested was superb! Initially I was disappointed that the chef had removed the tasting menu; however, what we did order was truly magnificent! And, we created tasting portions by sharing.

This restaurant came recommended by a colleague and from the moment my husband and I walked in the door, we knew we'd be in for a great evening. We sat at the corner of the Mozza Bar, and everything from the ambience, music, style, service and especially food was excellent. \n\nI had prosciutto with smoked bufala mozzarella to begin, followed by goat cheese ravioli, then veal breast strcotto as the main course. I finished the evening with a delicious Bombolini dessert. Every bite of every course was savoury and velvety. \n\nI would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I were very pleased with our dinner at Osteria Mozza. We started with the Burricotta served with radicchio, spiced walnuts, honey and fried rosemary on an oat cake, which combined a mouthwatering mix of flavors and textures. Next we shared two pastas, the egg and ricotta raviolo with browned butter and the gnocchi with duck ragu. It would be hard to pick a favorite, they were both scrumptious and perfectly prepared. We finished with the veal breast stracotto with mixed mushrooms and spinach, both delicious. I drank a very fine glass of Franciacorta followed by the house brand Sangiovese blend, a well balanced wine that complemented the food well. We were both full and none of the desserts appealed to us so I ended with an espresso. Service was attentive though lacking a bit in professionalism, not quite what you'd expect at this price point. The room is attractive and very lively and most patrons were casually dressed. Excellent authentic Italian and a good value considering the high quality.

We booked Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles via opentable.com (trying the website for the first time) for a recent family trip to LA. There were 7 of us and were seated at a round table a few tables from the entrance. It was our first time to eat at the LA location (we have eaten at the one in Singapore many times) and were excited to be at the origin, so to speak. One of our party could not make it so we waited for a short time while the table was reset for 6. Since we were familiar with the menu, ordering was fairly quick. Our waiter was very attentive and brought out the courses in groups of three. The food was excellent as expected. I have to say that perhaps the desserts were better executed here. :) All in all we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Osteria Mozza always delivers! Solid food, great service, great wine and ambiance. \nHave never been disappointed. The only thing I'd like to note is that at a later reservation you may not get your 1st entree of your choice. This happened to us both times we were there. They ran out of the pork loin and the rack of lamb. Otherwise everything is perfect.

While the location of the restaurant seems out of place, it's high end food and high end service and excellent ambiance make up for the location by far. Originally conceived as a mozzarella bar the final restaurant offers much more than just mozzarella with great vegetarian and meat lover dishes to choose from. It can be anywhere from a 1-3 course meal and the service was top notch. The pizzeria mozza next door is also great but you will find more space between the tables and even better service at this slightly more expensive osteria mozza. I can highly suggesy the grilled beef tagliata which the waiter said was one of their most popular dishes as well. We celebrated a birthday and were treated with a scoop of delicious gelato.

I've always heard so much about this popular spot and had been meaning to check it out for a very long time. Maybe I expected too much? \nThe restaurant is very nice, they have a huge wine list that actually verges overwhelming, and the atmosphere is pleasing. Unfortunately, the service is very stale and stuffy. The food is good, but didn't just blow me away, and the portions are quite small for the price. \nI'm afraid this is one of those places I've checked off my list of places to try... and that's where it ends.
