The Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) is in the northwest region of Puerto Rico in the town of Aguadilla. While it is significantly smaller than the Island’s main airport in San Juan (Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport-SJU), the hangar receives commercial flights from four airlines flying in from five destinations. The most frequent arrival route is from Orlando (MCO) with an average of 31 weekly flights.

Jet Blue, United Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Spirit Airlines offer direct flights to Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla from Newark (EWR), Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), New York (JFK), and Orlando.

Getting to West Puerto Rico by Car

Most flights to Puerto Rico arrive in the capital city, San Juan. Renting a car at the airport is often the most convenient way to explore the Island, with all major car rental companies operating locally. Generally, drivers must be at least 25 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.

Traveling from San Juan to Rincón covers roughly 94 miles and typically takes just over 2.5 hours. To reach Rincón, take the José de Diego Highway (PR-22) and then PR-2 for a quick and direct journey without any winding roads. For a more scenic experience, opt for Puerto Rico’s PR-413 when it branches off from PR-115. This route passes by some of Rincón’s finest beaches, including Playa María and Steps Beach, offering picturesque views along the way.
