Some drink red wine, some drink white wine. At KAYAK, well, we drink pretty much whatever we can get our hands on.
But it made us think. Does harvest season affect search activity on our site?
The months of September and October make up the “harvest season” in Northern California’s wine country, which means top vineyards are actively picking and juicing their grapes. Travelers tend to head to the popular wine regions of Napa and Sonoma during this time of year, and coincidentally we start to see some of our East Coast V.P.’s in our Bay Area office, out here on “business trips.”
We knew travel to Californian wine regions was popular in early fall, but not this popular!
After analyzing our KAYAK hotel search data we found:
–     Hotel searches to Napa in September and October were up 1,711% (compared to June and July).
–     Hotel searches to Sonoma in September and October were up 1,796% (compared to June and July).
