2020 has been quite a year for travelers. And while we’re all still longing for a return to “normal”, for now, we’re excited about the other ways in which the pandemic has actually made travel planning a bit better. Yeah we said it, better. Travel providers are listening to patrons: hotels are updating their check out and cleaning policies, vacation rental providers are offering long-term stays, and now, some major US airlines are eliminating change fees.

These adjustments are all in favor of you, the traveler. Now, you can book a trip without the worry that, should something change, you have to shell out beaucoup $$$ in order to reschedule that flight. And right now, this doesn’t appear to be a “for the next 30 days” change. Rather, it seems it could be a long-term shift in policies. (Of course, with each unique airline, there are certain conditions so be sure to check policies directly.)

So to help you navigate the changing landscape of travel, and to support you in your search for the right flight – we’ve made it even easier to find those travel options that offer you the most flexibility.

Change fees apply whether booked via airline or other travel sites – so compare your options.

When you search for flights on KAYAK, we’re scouring the internet to find you as many potential options as possible. And because we look at both airline sites and third-party travel websites – you don’t have to worry about “which one will let me change” so much as “which one is offering me the flight I want at the best price for me.”

Use our Flexible options filter to find flights with no change fees.

We launched our Flexible options filter shortly after the travel restrictions started in March. Since then, as airline policies have evolved, we’ve continued making sure we’re tagging or highlighting those options that give you the greatest flexibility.

Set preferred airlines for the ones offering no change fees.

If you want to take an additional step in customizing your KAYAK experience, head to your account preferences to indicate which airlines you prefer (and any to avoid). We’ll make sure these surface in your results under “Recommended”.

Now, perhaps more than ever, you are in control. So be bold: book that flight, make some plans and set your sights on a getaway now. And if things change? Have the peace of mind knowing you can easily reschedule, no strings attached.
