As the first metasearch to list Cuba as a destination, we’ve been tracking travelers’ interest since 2015. Over the past 2 years, as restrictions began to ease, our site has seen huge spikes in searches to Havana. When pulling together our 2017 Travel Hacker Guide, we analyzed data from over a billion annual searches to name the city as our #1 trending destination for 2017. Havana continued to make waves with appearances on both our spring break and summer travel lists.
Then came June 16th’s announcement.
While the future of travel to Cuba is a bit uncertain, we have a feeling interest won’t be dying down anytime soon. As our company’s president states, “interest in Cuba may spike again as travelers consider planning a trip before the new tourism restrictions are officially put in place.”
