Location at the beach is excellent except that there are no real alternatives to hotel restaurants.

Outdated, especially bathroom and not very clean. All in 80's style. Tried restaurant once for breakfast and very disappointed. Parking too expensive, should be free (self parking far away from room).

My wife and I had dinner here a couple of times on previous trips to the Big Island and have since stayed for a week on three occasions.  We have enjoyed the Plumeria and Mt view rooms.  The rooms are large, comfortable and filled with all the amenities we need.  Service is transparent.   There are three principle restaurants with varied results.  Manta (B&D) is pretty good, but you never feel the staff cares.  Hua Tree (L) has a limited menu, but a great staff, and fantastic location.  Monettes (D) is fantastic but pricey.  All have million dollar views.  The resort location on basically a private lagoon is spectacular.  That you can get a four star meal over looking said lagoon is priceless.   There are more expensive resorts on the Big Island, but none have as good a location.   There are some irksome rules at Mauna Kea,ex: the pool area is closed at 6 (seriously?) even the Marriott doesn't do that.  There are several other nice resorts (fairmont, mauna lea and even the Four Seasons...

While the Mauna Kea was as beautiful as expected, I was surprised at the amount of thought that was given to the details. When we arrived we were greeted with a fresh orchid lei and my husband and my son got kakooee nut leis. We were escorted to the front desk where there were comfortable seats and fresh ICE cold POG juice and a cold cloth to freshen up with. We had also had a guide to orient us to the hotel. I have never before stayed at a hotel that had everything that you might want in the room. I got up early and the rest of my family slept in. I could easily get ready to go to the gym without waking anyone with the high tech lighting system, the compartmentalized bathroom, and the walk in closet. I really had an appreciation for that closet after we arrived at our hotel in Kauai. We couldn't keep anything organized there. My husband is in a wheelchair and they really went out of there way to accomodate those with disabilities. They had a wheelchair available that could run on the ...

The housekeeping service, facilities, the restaurants, the pool area services, the sunset ritual

the beach is terrible, the inconsistency in serving the same breakfast - the waffle was presented with and without additions, like whipped cream, spiced sugar, coconut sauce. Unacceptable.

It was a beautiful resort. The lagoon was great and the snorkeling was good.

This would be a great place to stay if you have no complaints or issues. The staff is not helpful at all. Not the front desk, not at the restaurants. It's as if apathy and not luxury service should be the hotel motto. It is pervasive. We had an issue with smoke in our room. It was coming through the AC. They kept calling to apologize and offering assistance but when I would meet with the front desk they would do nothing. It is advertised as a non smoking facility.

Prices are either the average per night price per room or first night of stay. You can select to display the prices with or without our estimate of taxes & fees (which may not appear on provider's booking page but will be charged at hotel checkout). Before you complete your reservation, verify the total cost on the provider's site. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller
At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We aggregate tons of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we don't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car rentals can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find on occasion that certain prices are no longer available.

More questions or if you have a bad price to report to us
Please send us an email and someone from our team will get back to you promptly.
