An oceanfront setting of dreams on a stunning soft white sand beach at Kauna’oa Bay. Large accommodations that are sophisticated and serene in one of the most celebrated locations in Hawaii. And all the amenities expected of a luxury resort including championship golf, award-winning tennis, cuisine that honors local flavors, plus beach and cultural activities that combine for the ultimate in resort experiences. This is Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, as relevant and impressive today as its opening in 1965 by visionary Laurance S. Rockefeller. This is our Paradise. Let us welcome you with Aloha.
Pros: Mauna Kea is a very special place, elegant and understated. Everything about it is very well done, from the personal service to the art and physical surroundings. It is smaller than the similarly priced upscale chain hotels nearby and that makes a big difference.
Cons: There was an outdoor wedding there on Saturday night with loud electronic dance music. The music did stop at 10pm, but I recommend that if you would not be ok with the loud music at night, that you check with them to see if any weddings are scheduled while you are there.
Pros: Love the location ..
Pros: The views. The staff
Cons: I got terribly burned sitting under an umbrella. Didn’t put skin protection on my stomach/chest because I knew I was staying under the umbrella. Their umbrellas don’t keep u from getting very sunburned!
Pros: The bed was amazing, a Beauty Rest, I think...
Cons: Some room details were old, funky and even non-working, like the louvered door between the foyer and bathroom. It had jammed on the overhead track and wouldn't budge...
Pros: The location is amazingly beautiful. White sand beach is pristine.
Pros: Beautiful beach, may places to sit and admire the view. Gorgeous setting!
Pros: This place is so special. The beach here is amazing. The hotel itself has amazing views, & the service is fantastic.
Cons: We had a problem with termites in our room.
Pros: Resort property has many exquisite places to sit and savor...
Cons: The food
Pros: Always a great stay rooms are comfortable liked the tower better than the rooms which open to beach..wish we stayed longer
Inspired by culture, well-being and genuine aloha, Fairmont Orchid is a luxury Hawaii Island resort and spa beautifully located on the majestic Kohala Coast. Immerse yourself in an authentic Big Island vacation experience, surrounded by 32 oceanfront acres of lush tropical gardens, cascading waterfalls and a tranquil white sand beach and lagoon. From sunrise canoe voyages to sunset torch lighting ceremonies, an incredible array of outdoor adventures is yours to explore.
Pros: We love Fairmont!! It’s just everything from the location to the beauty of the building, the rooms, strolling thru the hotel with fountains and koi ponds to the pool and beach! Our favorite place on the island!
Pros: Dinner was fantastic at Brown’s. Very relaxing!
Pros: This hotel is amazing! Everything about it is beautiful! The grounds are a slice of heaven.
Cons: There are giant sliding louver doors on the sliders to the lanai. In our room the right side was broken and didnt open all the way. We let staff know upon arrival but it never got fixed. This made it hard to get in and out of the slider door.
Pros: The room is large and luxurious. The bathroom is incredible. We loved the 2 baths and the dual sinks.
Cons: The morning sun is very bright through the non adjustable Chevron sliding doors.
Pros: Beautiful large comfy bed. Loved the soaps and shower gel. Great Kona coffee in our room and even decaf which impressed me! Loved the gardens and the resort waterfalls and rental bikes for us to use.
Cons: We couldn’t fault Fairmont orchid and we loved the staff and especially the forecourt staff. Rick especially as he was so helpful.
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Waiting everywhere, for breakfast, for drinks, for diner. It took more than an hour to check in. The nice girl behind the counter gave us an upgrade, which is nice, but the whole process took an hour of our day. We just stayed for one day.
Pros: Hotel employee the front desk was amazing! The aloha spirit is definitely found at this hotel.
Pros: Quality, luxury yet chill relaxed environment.
Pros: The Lagune beach is very nice- can be crowded depending on how many people are at the hotel and often there is build up activity for events at the far end.
Cons: the vendor for the malasadas changed. We preferred the bigger ones with the daily changes of filling. The little ones are still good but just not as outstanding as the prior vendor.
Pros: We absolutely love everything else. The facilities were very nice. Everything was clean. The rooms were excellent. I fell on love with Lynn at the front desk and Derek at the beach side bar. They both went above and beyond the call of duty. We also loved the fact that, even though they could not accommodate and early check-in, once we came back, check into our rooms, all of us things were already there. That was awesome. And appreciated.
Cons: This is a huge place. And it is a long, long walk from the front desk to your room. There should be some sort of cooling system in the lobby area. It's all open air and it can be very hot. The open air restaurant with all the flies and birds was a joke.
Pros: Very nice ambient atmosphere and location with an acces to the beach.
Cons: Valet and bell guys at arrival - too pushy for our comfort.
Pros: Gorgeous garden and beach.
Cons: Beach and pool facilities were very expensive. $65 for a sun bed per day if you want some shade on the beach or by the pool. Those should be complimentary at a beach resort of that class
The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort stretches along its namesake white-sand beach on the Island of Hawaii. The Kohala Coast is known for its world-class shoreline as well as for cultural and archaeological gems nestled between centuries-old lava fields. The resort’s contemporary style contrasts with lush, manicured gardens and the endless blues of the sky and the ocean. Four reimagined dining venues are influenced by the island’s bounty. The award-winning 18-hole Hapuna Golf Course was designed by Arnold Palmer. Two swimming pools, a 6,800-square-foot freeform family pool and an adult-exclusive infinity pool, overlook Hapuna Beach. A WestinWorkout Center and Crossfit Studio are complemented by the Hapuna Spa for rejuvenation and relaxation. The resort boasts more than 85,000 square feet of newly refreshed function space for productive business meetings and inspiring social events. Choose from 249 oversized guest rooms, including 17 suites.
Pros: Beautiful setting, very peaceful. The resort perfectly blends nature with luxury. From the rooms to the restaurants and common areas, the beautiful ocean and coastline are always in view and perfectly framed.
Pros: Beautifully redone! Rooms are relaxing, an extension of the gorgeous grounds.
Cons: All of the food service folks are lovely, friendly and helpful. Front desk, valet not as welcoming. A little stuffy.
Pros: The facility is absolutely beautiful and very family friendly.
Cons: Not really. They are doing some remodeling, but it is so well hidden, that it truly did not bother us at all.
Pros: The hotel itself is great— rooms are nice, beds very comfortable. Luxurious, even. The restaurants? Eh.... (Though the fancy restaurant was not open while we were there.)
Cons: What is billed as "ocean view" would be more accurately called "PARTIAL ocean view." There is a large building under construction between the rooms and the ocean. So all you see is a bit of ocean past the building. I'm including a photo of our view from the 8th floor. We were originally given a room on six, which was even worse. But worst of all was the construction noise. From 9:00 am to 5:00 pm all you hear is jackhammers and the beeping of trucks backing up. And even on the beach— which is beautiful— the sound of the surf is obliterated by the construction noise. So really, not a very pleasant experience.
Pros: The Hapuna has the most fabulous setting and the views from the lobby are simply stunning. The pool areas are lovely and the dining excellent. We had a partial view room which really is only partial so if you want a good view book a sea view. There was a mistake with our rooms but the manager handled it superbly. We would definitely visit again.
Cons: Self Park a long way from the hotel- would definitely just valet park.
Pros: This is my third time to be here. Renewed as The Westin this year, very wonderful to stay and spend a good time for holiday! Nice room, friendly staff, good cuisine and beautiful beach...everything is great!!
Cons: Far from airport and town. But no problem with rent-a-car.
Pros: The beach. The adult pool area and of course access to Turtle Point and trail to Mauna Kea. And Harley the cat,
Cons: I thought the the food at the pool bar restaurant was pretty bad compared to our past visits (pre-Westin). The prices were outrageous for the poor quality food and drink. Pump cheese on the nachos, a $25 lobster roll that was mostly mayo and probably out of a can. 2 club sodas $15. The F&B department needs a revamp. Resort fees plus $25/nt parking?
Pros: Beach, layout and pool
Pros: Absolutely amazing
Pros: The room was very nice with an excellent bathroom. The beach, pool and views are excellent, except that we had to look at construction.
Cons: There was construction going on in front of our building all day long, even on Sunday. When I inquired, I was told this was a separate owner. The were building residences there. The noise, with jackhammer type noise, meant that we couldn't use our balcony. It was disturbing when you want a relaxing vacation. This noise could even be heard from the pool area. None of this was disclosed in advance. The buildings also seems a little austere by comparison to other hotels in the area at a similar price.
Cons: Poor facilities. Got locked at balcony, terrible experience.
Pros: Located on a wonderful beach with great outdoor pools.
Cons: Not in a walkable area.
Located on Hawaii, also known as the Big Island, The Jacaranda Inn was originally built over 100 years ago as a bunk house for plantation ranch hands. This Kamuela inn is set on 11 acres just 2 km from the Parker Ranch Visitor Center. Each suite features a spa bath. Showcasing 1930s artwork and wood beamed ceilings, each suite at Jacaranda Inn offers cable TV. Guests can relax in the seating area complete with a sofa. A furnished private deck is included. At Jacaranda Inn Kamuela, guests can socialize in the common lounge. Billiards is available for on-site entertainment. Hiking trails in Waimea and other canyons are 1 mile away. The Hawaii Preparatory Academy is 1.5 km away. WM Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea is 75 km away. Kona Airport is 45 minutes' drive from this inn.
Pros: Setting, big quite room and big bathroom
Cons: no cable service. no TV in the room. no WiFi to the rooms.
Pros: Staff was helpful. Setting of property is very nice. Hugh rooms and bathrooms
Cons: This is an old property that clearly was once a great place to stay. At this point the property is very run down and dirty. Lots of deferred maintenance, dirt and dust just about everywhere you look, old mattress, gardens overgrown, no batteries in our smoke detector - etc....
Pros: The bed was wonderful. We both got a great nights sleep. The Jacuzzi fits two very comfortably. It was so quiet. If you are looking for an affordable place to just get away this is it. And beaches are minutes away.
Pros: Great asthetics in the room, the jacuzzi was luxurious.
Cons: Wifi is not in the room, but that was also a bonus.
Pros: Very homey. Non commercial. Old style Hawai’i. No TV or wifi but here in Waimea to me, that’s a good thing.
Cons: Its showing its age a bit (but it’s a historical site).
Pros: Beautiful old house, lovely room with large bathroom and 4-poster bed
Cons: No food or drink other than coffee in room, minimal staff on site, terrace lights stay on all night
Pros: It was centrally located, not too close to the busy or noisy part of town. Liked the generous size of the room and the bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub that we enjoyed and a walk-in shower. The closet was large size and there was a separate toilet room. The large older style windows added a nice touch. The bed was 4 poster and very comfortable. The furniture is beautiful antique - the style was like "shabby chic" in a tasteful way that gave it a historical feel in keeping with the area. A glass chandelier is a nice touch. The staff is friendly and leaves us alone to enjoy our stay. It was peaceful. They had maid service daily with clean towels, free coffee and tea. It's good for people who just want to get away from noise and electronic chatter. It has historic charm.
Cons: The outside garden surrounding the room was overgrown. It gave some "privacy" but it looked and felt unkempt. The windows could use some pull down shades that lets the light in but provides privacy from outside. They could clear the large, main window of vines and instead add pull down shades. It could use some air-conditioning, a ceiling fan in the bathroom, etc. There was no WiFi in the room or tv, etc. Didn't like the purple paint on walls - they could lighten up the room with a lighter shade of paint, makes it less "dramatic" and it would feel cleaner. It was a little dusty. The room could use some sprucing up - like a really good cleaning. It was adequately clean, but not like I'm used to in regular hotels. I would move the sofa against the 4 poster bed and put a small table with chairs on one side by the large window and a beverage bar with small frig on the other side of room. Otherwise, it IS a HISTORIC Inn - felt that way too... "it's kind of busy" [a polite way of putting it]. If you don't mind that, this kind of place will be just right for you. Bring bottled water, snacks because there is no food service.
Pros: Did not have breakfast. We checked out early. Very clean. Owners provided all needs. We will definitely stay at the Jacaranda Inn, the next time we're in Waimea.
Cons: We have no complaints about our accommodations and will definitely recommend them to friends and family.
Cons: This place is old and dusty. Room was very dusty on arrival.Dust all over. Problem with hot water. Dirty fridge inside . Dusty, full of leaves veranda with the view of jungle of weeds ( no herb garden as advertised). stuffy smell all over, dark and spooky.
Hotel Honokaa is located in Honokaa. Free WiFi access is available. Hilo Airport is 59 km away. All rooms in this historic hotel feature a private bathroom with a shower. Extras include bed linen. The property offers free parking. A light continental breakfast is served from 07:30 until 09:00. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.
Cons: The shower water wasn’t hot on the first night.
Pros: GREAT LOCATION FOR SIGHT SEEING TRIPS NEAR BY. FRIENDLY STAFF AND OWNERS
Cons: BATHROOM TOO SMALL AND OLD. NO COMFORTABLE CHAIR TO SIT IN THE ROOM. NO TV.
Pros: The host/hostess were very friendly and helpful, telling us about activities, restaurants in the area, making us feel welcome. The room provided a nice view and was adequate, the shower was great! The light continental breakfast was the kind I enjoy, with fresh local fruit being the highlight.
Cons: From the outside the hotel looks like it is abandoned (as are many buildings in Honokaa). The hotel has not been updated in a long time, so you will not find luxury amenities here. That was not a problem for us.
Pros: Historic old building. Well maintained and friendly and knowledgable owners.
Cons: The bathroom was not cleaned. There was a used towel in the bathroom. They didnt even empty the trash from the previous rentee. I have pictures that I can share.
Pros: I like talk to the recepfionist.
Cons: The building is old.
Pros: Amazing place, great hosts, highly recommend!
Pros: The hotel is an old history building right on the main street with everything in town within walking distance. Although it's an old building, the hotel has ambience, everything is clean, the owner is great to talk to, and we found it to be a fun and historical place to stay. There is not any AC in the rooms but that is not a problem as it cools off nicely at night with breezes off the ocean.
Cons: The bed in the room we had was a bit small for two people and the internet was not the best at times. The rooms upstairs are larger then downstairs with great views.
Pros: The property was very nostalgic for the time period in which it was built, 1930s and 1940s. It desperately needs some renovation even to keep it looking good for the era in which it was built. It has the potential to be a diamond in the historic town that it is in, much like other historic towns in that part of the big Island. The innkeepers were very friendly and very helpful and I fear that when they are too old to operate the hotel that it may fall by the wayside. It is listed on the historic register and it is a shame to see these classics of their day fall by the wayside.
Cons: Dirty washcloth left from previous tenant, faucets in the sink and shower hard to operate, not very hot water, poor Internet reception.
Pros: The hotel is in the historic downtown, and also conveniently located for visiting the Waipio Valley. The owners are lovely and have great respect for Hawaiian culture and history.
Cons: The wifi is spotty, but this is true of many places on the Big Island. The building is an old historic building that may not meet everyone’s tastes, but it is clean and has what you need. Honokaa is a neat little town.
Situated 700 metres from Waimea Park, Belle Vue Waimea (Big Island) B&B offers a tennis court, and accommodation with a patio and free WiFi. All units come with a seating area, a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a private bathroom with a hairdryer, bath and shower. A fridge and toaster are also available, as well as a kettle and a coffee machine. A continental breakfast is available each morning at the bed and breakfast. If you would like to discover the area, hiking, snorkelling and cycling are possible in the surroundings. Parker Ranch Shopping Center is 1.4 km from Belle Vue Waimea (Big Island) B&B, while Muliwai Trailhead is 39 km from the property.
Pros: We stayed on the top floor. The "Penthouse". Spacious, inviting and comfortable and the hosts accommodating. Everything you need was there. The views were spectacular. Only wish I was able to spend more than just the one night.
Cons: It could use just a "little" bit of TLC and a daily cleaning to remove the spiderwebs on the deck and the stairs. Tip to the owners: fill all the light sockets we with low wattage bulbs rather than a few with high wattage bulbs. Empty light sockets look tacky.
Pros: Great value. Clean and comfortable. The owners left taste muffins and breakfast supplies. It is in the north a more rural area lovely to explore. Beautiful morning views quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our overnight stay.
Cons: Located in the north gave us a reason to explore that area. May not have driven that far otherwise.
Pros: The view was spectacular! The bed was super comfortable. The owners where very helpful, and accommodating.
Pros: to be honest: Nothing (beside the nice view from the mountain) We had several B&Bs during our 3 week stay on Hawaii. This one was the worst one!
Cons: The breakfast was a joke! A few pieces bread, dirty jam in a big glass. One old apple. But the worst thing was a dead bug in a drawer. Overall was the room dirty. On arriva a guy gave us the key without any further explanation (beside the WLAN Key).
Pros: The secluded area; Host was hospitable and accommodating! even Mom, on the phone, gracious, and very accessible by phone; Allowed the last minute additional guest and just adjusted our original billing; Parking was great, beautiful flowers and large rooms. Great complete kitchen and dining areas, Nice TV & reception, comfortable living room set up, very homey; Appreciate the lack of 'hustle & bustle', noisy people, & cars ! Lovely bird sounds, nature!
Cons: Linen smelt moldy: towels, bedding, pillows; Views of ocean, Mauna Loa obscured by solar panel (looking out kitchen window...) would have liked the top floor better - seemed like better view; Although, mountain to the back was AWESOME! made a person want to hike up the hill... ; ) Christian was very gracious, thanks for the avos, so ALOHA!
Pros: Spacious and comfortable. Nice views of the Kamuela.
Cons: Musty smell which could be resolved if owner washed sheets covering couch, loveseat, and futon cover. Boxer dogs barking as you enter the parking.
Pros: Charming place. Close to town but very private. Very spacious. Has a little patio in the back so private. I will definitely stay again
Cons: Needed a little dusting.
Pros: The unit was roomy and had nice accommodations if you were planning on staying there or cooking your own meals. The location was nice and had a good view towards the coast and the volcano.
Cons: The breakfast that was provided was a self-service consisting of cold cereal and a couple muffins. Because visitors the night before had used the utensils and supplies from our unit, the innkeeper had not prepared the room for our arrival and we had to call and ask about getting utensils and supplies. Very basic on the breakfast part of the B & B.
Pros: Size of the room and bathroom
Cons: No extra toilet paper or soap
Cons: Barking dogs the afternoon we arrived. Freezer not very effective. Weather cold and damp buy no heat. Parking a little challenging. Term B&Bmisleading. Minimal breakfast material .

Featured amenities include laundry facilities, a safe deposit box at the front desk, and coffee/tea in a common area. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
Pros: It’s a good place for an overnight place to sleep. Really like the location. Walking distance to Waimea shopping center. Plan on going back in December
Cons: The renovation of the bathroom wasn’t finished under the sink...other then that room was nice
Pros: Waimea was rather expensive compared to other locations. This may be true all accommodations in Waimea.
Cons: Bed had crumbs and hair between the fitted n flat sheets. Wall Outlets weren't holding chargers in
Pros: The vaulted ceilings and large rooms
Cons: No air condition, but Waimea is pretty cold
Pros: The beds were comfortable and the refrigerator was nice to have.
Cons: The dead cockroaches under the bathroom sink and the black mold on the bathroom ceiling.
Pros: Centrally located and next to the Farmer's Market. Free parking at premise.
Cons: No hair dryer, no electric kettle, no ceiling fan nor a/c.
Pros: The room was really big - had a good TV, nice beds. Reasonable proximity to Big Island Brewhaus for walking (although not as close as it looks on the map!).
Cons: The chickens call constantly from 2:30am on - not something they can control, but be aware. The bathroom was rusting to pieces - the furniture was pretty old, and I didn't trust the cleanliness of the room. We only stayed one night, and that was to go to the Big Island Brewhaus, which is a MUST!
Cons: Black mold in bathroom. Cold room & couldn't control temperatures. Not clean & run down. Hairs everywhere. Stains on pillows & carpet. This place anywhere else couldn't fetch more than $30 a night. No front desk after 8pm and the woman at checkin actually told me if I needed anything after 8 to call 911- like for a clogged toilet etc!
Cons: TV did not work
Pros: The staff were friendly. It was a great location.
Cons: The smell of the room had a terrible musty dank odor that permeated into my clothes that were unused. rust around the showerhead and faucet area.Found a rotting olive in the ice bucket.Had some friends staying there at the same time who had similar problems.
Pros: The room was large. The location in town but quiet. The bathroom lighting was good. There was plenty of hot water. Staff was easy to deal with.
Cons: For the extra cleaning charge I expected an immaculate room; it wasn't. Although our room was nonsmoking it was near smoking rooms with smellable smoke. We had to ask for an additional light in our room.
