Location, location, location. Easy walk to dinner (at Cafe Sydney, you must go there) and to the Opera House for Donizetti. The bed is fabulously comfortable and I love the pillows. I want a Marriott pillow!

Service in the hotel bar was slow, even though there were not too many customers. It took 10 minutes to receive 2 glasses of wine. We ordered appetizers but after 30 minutes they never came and we had to go, so we had to cancel our order.

The rooms are well appointed and the view of the city is spectacular. The only problem we had with the room was that when we came in from the opera that night the room smelled slightly of sewage, but the smell disappeared by the morning. The hotel breakfast is absurdly expensive but there's a Starbucks around the corner where we got coffee and croissants and brought them back to the room. I would stay here again.

The location of this hotel was fantastic. Almost down the street from the two most iconic tourist attractions of Sydney. The staff were great for information.

There was nothing I can say about the hotel that was negative

The only thing I can say was that I am not sure the hotel meets the standard for a 5 star luxury hotel. There was nothing negative about it for sure however. For the money it was a excellent value. The location, staff and room were all fine. We did not get a chance to even experience dining in the hotel we were out exploring the city so much

Bellmen were good, pillows

Received worst room imagined. Low floor, dirty windows, bad views, receptionist lied about restaurant open at 10PM, Burger cost $30 plus tip, water in room was $10, room was expensive at about $300/night, no loyalty program with airlines except Qantas, shower was open with no door, no microwave, no real conveniences, small room.

We enjoyed staying at The Russell very much! We especially enjoyed that location in that we could walk to the Harbor Bridge as well as the Sydney Opera House and between the two were all of the Harbor Cruises, water taxis, and all local transit including the train that we took to and from the airport. Ideal location. The breakfast is included in the price and takes place on the first floor in the restaurant. We had an unusually large breakfast which would last us most of the day. They took our order and made our eggs just the way we wanted them. Delicious! I have already recommended this hotel to friends who are traveling to Sydney.

The Russell Hotel is top-notch when it comes to customer service. The staff and owners treat each guest individually; I was able to chat extensively with many staff members during my stay. When I left my glasses in the bathroom, they graciously mailed them back to me in the States! The roof-top garden gives great views of Circular Quay, and the room, though small, was quite comfortable. A great value for your Sydney adventures!

This is *such* a lovely hotel! It has a huge amount of old-world charm, from the decor to the food offerings. They even had high tea!

The Internet was a tad pricey, but not bad.

The food there was wonderful. I ate dinner and breakfast there, and both were quite nice. I also enjoyed the bar area. The room was wonderful. It came with a sitting area, a desk, and a large, well-furnished bathroom. The staff was friendly and courteous, and also very knowledgable about the area.

Close location to Circular Quay and Opera House!!

No free wifi except for 30 min daily in the lobby. Nice, small rooftop pool but a hot tub would've been great. One concierge was just learning the ropes so couldn't really help us but the other was very knowlegable.

Location

The rooms in this hotel do not qualify for a five-star hotel. The bathrooms are small, even tight. The shower in the bathtub floods the bathroom floor, you shouldn't have to mop your own floor in a five-star. The desk staff are snobs, not very helpful.

I cannot understand how this hotel has a five star rating. I have had better rooms in a three star hotel. Everything else was priced sky high. WiFi for $30.00 a day! $10.00 for a small package of nuts!! A three-star hotel offers much more for less.

Convenient to CBD, Wynyard underground station and easy walk to Circular Quay; updated and comfortable room and bath; very secure security - must use key card to use elevators.

As of June, road repair on O'Connell side of hotel can be loud. Ask for room of Pitt Street side.

Attractive hotel in historic building. Very attentive, friendly staff who accommodated our need for an early morning check-in. By Sydney standards ours was a decently-sized room for the money. High ceiling, bay window, marble tiles in bath, deep soaking tub with separate shower. Great location.

Poor service and misrepresenting of the quality of room I booked

We splurged a bit for a Harbor and Opera House view room and the Horizon Club access at Sydney. Quite a disappointment all around. Our 'opera house and harbor' view room turned out to be on a corner of the building such that the only view you got was by sitting in the window and craning your neck to the edge to see the opera house. Not very impressive. I find the half truth worse than the lie and it really irks me to have paid the up charge and not get what I thought I paid for. So if you want a harbor and opera house view do not take room 3419. It disappoints. I guess the first clue for us was that not one of the door staff came to help us with getting our bags out of the taxi or helping us with them to elevator and the room. Not 5 star service. However we did get a split of champagne and some chocolate gratis from the management for our occasion so were things looking u...

The view was spectacular and the location was very convenient.

Although staff was mostly friendly, the service was not quite up to expectations for this caliber of hotel.

We stayed in the suite, which was the only room that could accommodate my husband and I with our two kids. The view was truly stunning! The room was beautiful, and the amenities were excellent. Guests in the suite rooms are checked in at the 30th floor Horizon Lounge, also with beautiful views. The lounge offers breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening drinks and canapes. However, service was a little off. Our room was not ready at check-in time, and although they estimated it would be ready 'shortly,' it was over an hour. Afternoon tea was being served in the lounge, but there were no clean teapots, the water pitcher was empty and not refilled, and no utensils or plates for the snacks. We requested sheets for the sofa bed when we found none in the room, and were promised s...

Good central location in prime district ( 'trendy' famous 'Rocks' area of downtown Sydney with great shops, pubs, & restaurants ) & within walking distance of Sydney Harbour where our cruise ship was docked. Also, Mgr 'Andrea' OK'd us a late checkout time

A past guest had recently vomited ( apparently severely ) on one side of the bed, floor,& closet next to bed in room, which had NOT been cleaned, & the odor was heavy & overpowering, forcing us to literally sleep on the room's couch & kitchenette floor!

See above comment - because of the horrible room smell in one particular area on one side of the bed ( which unfortunately we did not discover until AFTER we had unpacked & got undressed -- otherwise we obviously would have requested another room ), we believe that the room's cleanliness is very substandard & rates a '1' or 'poor' rating. Although the front desk staff were professional, they were cold & unaccommodating when we discussed this proble...

Not luxury, but a very comfortable studio with kitchen and partial view of Sydney Opera House. The Rocks area is the perfect place to stay--convenient to all places of interest as well as easy walk to City Center and Darling Harbour. Would definitely stay here again. Get a room on floors 4, 5, or 6.

Prices are either the average per night price per room or first night of stay. You can select to display the prices with or without our estimate of taxes & fees (which may not appear on provider's booking page but will be charged at hotel checkout). Before you complete your reservation, verify the total cost on the provider's site. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller
At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We aggregate tons of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we don't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car rentals can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find on occasion that certain prices are no longer available.
