Great location. Economical. Kitchenette was handy.
No guest service. Never answered the phone. Very little toilet paper. No new linens or towels, even with a longer stay.
The atmosphere the service
Couldn't control temperature in room, small, no microwave or frig, parking cost very high, looks old and dingy, can hear everything thru walls
I love the location of this hotel. The price is very reasonable, and the staff was helpful and courteous. The lobby area is is really comfortable and nice, as is the bar area.
The bathroom facilities were extremely small and cramped. The shower was never more than a moderate trickle, with little temperature variability options. The bathroom that we used needed a serious upgrade.
looks like its from the 80's - peeling paint, old light fixtures, toilet/ bath coming away from the wall / floor. creepy hallways with old carpeting. horrible fitness center with equipment from the 1980's and carpeting. would only recommend to people i dont like.
Location is good.
Terrible hotel condition. Had to fill out a report for POTENTIAL beg bugs. I am not saying they have bed bugs as I am unsure if in fact they were bed bugs or just regular bugs. The hotel has a lot of potential for having lots of charm but unfortunately management has not kept up with the maintenance and it shows. While there were nice hotel personnel (the security guide and one receptionist), the majority of the staff was rude. I suggest you stay at another hotel, this is not worth the money.
location Lobby impressive - but that was it
tired and dilapidated rooms AC and Fans did not work at any acceptable level Halls dark and dingy
housekeeping--used towels and other items were not replaced. Hotel could use updating.
The room did not have a closet or hangars. No luggage rack. Will not use Kayak for booking travel again. Did not receive value for the cost.
The room was huge, but needed to be updated.
I love the history of it and found out it was one of the oldest hotels in Chicago. They have preserved it well and it has some beautiful ball rooms as well as the hallways and ceilings in the lobby and entrance. Concierge and bellman's are excellent with helping you and giving you guidance and assistance. Very knowledgeable and eager to help as well as nice and friendly. Love the customer service they give. When you understand how old the Hotel is then you can appreciate how nice they have kept it up. It has so much character you won't find in a new hotel. Plus it is not far from Buckingham Fountain and near Miliemium Train Station.
there were a few misunderstandings about the payment for my room (since it was a business trip I was not to pay with my own credit card), and the staff (especially the head of staff) was very rude to me when I explained her about the misunderstanding. They had me picked up in my room by the hotel officer as if I were some kind of criminal. The service was very bad and the staff at the reception always seemed tired of their work.
Fantastic value. Awesome location right in the center of things and immediately across from Millenium Park. The hotel had some old Chicago charm, but is showing its age and lack of updates. There aren't really any amenities, but who needs them when you're out of the hotel seeing the city the whole time?
Smallish room and kind of dingy bathroom with no recent updating. But if you're not expecting luxury, need a basic and well located place to stay at a very reasonable price - this is the hotel for you!
Nothing was dirty, but the hotel is old and needs to be updated. Our sink had cracks in it, wallpaper is pealing off the walls, etc. it's too bad because this hotel was an institution at one point in our U.S. history and the management needs to bring that charm back. Besides the disappointment of upkeep, the location is great. My husband and I don't spend a lot of time in our room so it was perfect, central, walkable location for us.
Across the street from the lake front where activities abound for tourists. The unwelcome interior keeps you out and about instead of playing with your ipad inside.
Decor and building are dated. Poor workmanship and lack of maintenance shows. $44 valet parking.
Great location to walk to all the many sights. Understand, you are getting a roof over your head and a bed to sleep in, that's it. The only difference between a 1940's room and 2015 room, is the flat screen on the wall. But, if you need a location to walk from, this is the place.
The location and price were great. Very central to everything I needed to do for work and down time. Loved being across the street from the park. Staff was fantastic.
The hotel is older and the fixtures and finishes could use a little updating in places. The gym wasn't what exactly I was hoping for, but was adequate. My first night was the night of the Chicago hockey team winning the championship, so I heard all the revelers driving by, honking and cheering all night.
Hotel is old and needs updated
Couldn't be a better location for festivals and events in the park. Easy walking access to museums, shopping and night clubs. Older hotel but aging gracefully. We will stay there again.
Dirty outdated rooms that were quite literally falling apart.
Location. Good views.
Rooms were untidy. Beds weren't comfortable. No bathroom door lock. Coffee machine and beverages weren't adequate.
Lobby and staff were very nice.
Always a nice place to stay. Right across from the park is the key factor as to why we stayed here.
Price of parking was $39 flat for guests of the hotel. The vallet driver tried to charge me $59 instead of the $39 I was first told when I arrived the night before check out
It has good location close to the Mellinnium park
it was a little bit noisy.
All the staff were very friendly. The hotel has a lot of history, some say it is haunted? Our last day there my brush did fall off the bathroom counter all by itself? Overall a nice place in a good location, it's not a luxury hotel but beautiful and comfortable.
The bathroom could use some updating, it was small with a very small bath tub but it met our needs for just 2 people.
Great lobby and friendly people.
Great location, hotel was old but very clean, staff was excellent
Heating system is old, could not control the temperature only the fan speed
My reservation was given a complimentary upgrade. Wonderful view of the lake and park. Great location. Friendly staff. History of the bldg was fun for the kids and me.
Very old building . Everything is so old.The heating system was so old , and make such a noise that next morning I got a headache . The coffee maker was broken. Never recomend anybody. Will never come back
Location was great for the museum's and most all other main attractions in Chicago.
Beds where concrete, carpets filthy, staff unfriendly, view was of the other side of the hotel.
The valet/bellhop service was fantastic! Very helpful and kind!
Good location, cheap rates
Horribly outdated, very little actually works, paper thin mattresses, tiny televisions, horrible room temperature control, smelly common areas, old elevators, run down, paint chipping. Will never stay here again!
Everything else. Sure, the lakeview room had a nice view, and it was a great location. That does not excuse lukewarm water, a clogged bathtub, pubic hair in the velcro on the pillowcases, a nasty staff who had no idea where the river dyeing was on St. Patty's Weekend, elevators that smelled of sewage, no wifi, and temperature control consisting of opening the windows or turning on the heat.
Clean, staff is friendly
The beds weren't comfortable , the room only had a heater no aie conditioner
beds uncomfortable stintch on the rugs needs rehab
We checked into a room on the 5th floor and pulled the sheets back to discover a live BED BUG and evidence of bed bug activity. Our room was upgraded after complaining to the front desk and upon inspection of the new room, we found the exact same thing! We then requested a refund and left!
I ordered a wake-up call and it never came!!! Overslept and missed a meeting.
The price...it increased $70 in less than 90 minutes to a ridiculous amount. The room smelled like a toilet disinfectant. The smell was so bad I had to sleep with the windows open. The bed slats broke in the middle of the night, so I slept in the large canyon in the middle of the mattress. The shower was warm (not hot) and had NO pressure. It was a terrible experience.
The hotel was very old and dirty
