FAQs for booking flights from Canada to California

  • Which airport is closest to Sacramento?

Sacramento is the state capital of California and lies midway between the San Rafael to the west and Lake Tahoe to the east. If you wish to visit the city, you should look for a flight to California that lands in San Francisco which is about 145 km away or about 1h 20min by car via the I-80 East.

  • I wish to visit Joshua Tree National Park. Which airport should I use?

Joshua Tree National Park lies in the south-central region of California, just south of Bernardino and is accessible from either San Diego Airport or LAX. From LAX it’s a 2h drive to get there, but from San Diego Airport it will take about 2h 30min, so flying into LAX is the better option.

  • Can I get a direct flight from Canada to California?

There are only two Canadian airports that offer direct flights to California and both of them are on the West Coast. These are Victoria Airport and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Of these two, only Vancouver International Airport offers direct flights to LAX (via Air Canada and WestJet), San Francisco (via ANA) and Santa Ana Orange County Airport (via WestJet).

  • Should I fly into LAX if I plan to visit Yosemite National Park?

If you fly into LAX you will then have to drive about 4h 30min to get to the iconic California landmark in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. However, if you book your flight to arrive at the San Francisco Airport, the drive time is reduced to just over 3h, so SFO is the better choice.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Canada to California?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Canada to California.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Canada to California?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to California from Canada is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Canada to California?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to California with an airline and back to Canada with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Canada to California?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to California from Canada up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding a cheap flight out of Canada

  • California is the most highly populated of the United States and one the largest, so there are six airports that you can fly into. These include San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is the most frequent destination for flights to California.
  • Getting around the northern part of California is easier if you choose to fly into San Francisco Airport. It’s the northernmost of the major airports and there are several big cities in its vicinity such as San Jose, Oakland and Stockton. From there you also have access to the many national parks in California’s north.
  • There is only one Californian airport you can fly into from Victoria International Airport (YYJ), and that is San Francisco Airport. Alaska Airlines provides service, but unfortunately this is not a direct flight and will first make a stop at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) where there is a connecting flight to SFO.
  • There are several major airports in the southern part of the state that receive flights to California from Canada. LAX, (ONT) and Santa Ana Orange County International Airport (SNA) are relatively close to each other on the Pacific Coast, while Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) services the southwestern region with flights from Vancouver Airport via United Airlines.
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) should be your destination if you intend to visit the more southern areas of California. Swoop Airlines offers flights there from Vancouver Airport.

Overall, very uneventful and pleasant experience. Most importantly, no delays.

The flight crews were extremely professional, helpful, and courteous. Departure and arrival times were accurate. No delay. I will use K airline again. Thanks

Not very comfortable seated in the back plane due to turbulence

Ford not that great the seat not to big for leg room like other airline

On time and flight crew are always so happy to help and always smiling unlike other airlines.

Great crew, decent food Charging plugs were broken on both seats next to me. Only the USB port was available, and that charges, very, very slowly. Seat was also broken, it would not lock into position when reclining.

It was ok. Not good and not a bad experience

not too bad but not too great either. Service on all airlines declined ever since covid. Your Delta Stewardess are not that friendly at all. :-(

I like your stewardess, they are nice. However, your food could have been better and wheres your dessert? You do not offer beer or scotch. I do not drink alcohol biut my husband can have one or two, he has to ask if he can have one. during dinner or lunch, it should be offerred. Also, you do not have the most famous drinks ginger ale

Not accommodating ground staff On board slow service Crew members not very friendly

The type of the food requested (Asian vegetarian) was not properly met with. They have very limited snack items that may compensate for the main meals.

The quality of the food is pretty good. Thank you, EVA Air.

Pleasant crew. Very long flight, a bit uncomfortable at times being seated, but not too bad.

No ice for the drinks. Only gave a half a cup of your beverage. Not enough water. I got very dehydrated.

Poor services. Not meet 5-star airline standard. Disappointed with the poor food and drink selections. Cabin crew is not attentive at all. They even skipped me during meal service (not sure if it is intentionally).

Eva is one of the top airlines in Asia... but often are over priced. Finally found a reasonable rate.

My original flight was rescheduled & EVA did a good job rescheduling my flight & connecting flight.

Polite hard working crew. No complaints really. Meals were not to my liking.

Everything was fantastic! The crew really went above and beyond to make it a great flight. I felt cared for with EVA.

t and I Flight crew did excellent job taking care of us and feeding us and staying professional. The boarding was delayed by an hour and then extra security measures were taken. No real explanation except for they said it was more of a maintenance dey

Very comfortable Prem economy seats for a long haul flight. Had a problem with the tv that the crew fixed so was great!

we were upgraded which was a blessing and tender mercy for us. I fell the day before and was in extreme pain from knee to shoulder. Sitting in a more comfortable seat during the flight was an unexpected blessing and experience.

Not impressed with check in desk staff at Vancouver airport. Not a professional mind service and not cared or tried to help. Don’t think I would fly with them again

The aircraft was slightly newer but the food was very bad. Bland and uninteresting. Nothing special at all.

I felt thirsty and asked the flight attendent for water, but no one came for more than half an hour.

The crew were fine. I didn’t enjoy the food at all. I found it unappetising and really had trouble eating it. The comfort level was fine and our return flight is with Cathay Pacific but honestly I probably wouldn’t fly Cathay Pacific again.

Everything went smooth. All flights were on time No changing gates, . No changing flights . It was like a completely different airlines tha n the last time I used Cathay Pacific . The last flight, 2 months ago, I had before this one was from Philippines also . I got changed in Manila and was told it only added 2 hours onto my flight . My 20 hour return trip ended up being 30 hours return with a 10.0 hour layover in New York with no seats anywhere . Everyone was sleeping or sitting on the floor . Unlike the hotel I was given in Manila to wait for this flight home . I never thought I would use Cathay Pacific again . But I did and this time you were great! I should have complained about the flight and layover from Hell a couple months ago. Consider that I am complaining about that august/23 flight now . Thank you got the great flying experience on my way home from philippines .

We requested special assistance and Cathay Pacific provided it in Sydney, but we were completely forgotten about in Hong Kong - when we really needed the help to catch our connecting flight. Really disappointing service.

Would have liked working outlets on the flight. The first meal was very bleh, the second meal was a lot better so overall okay meals

Uncomfortable seat/ bed. Opted for a front window seat without TV not working ). A bit smelly blanket and environment inside.

Check in etc was very good. As for on the plane, it was like flying in a freezer. It was so cold, i have flown for years and never been so cold on a plane. Staff on board said its always cold when flying which is a load of rubbish. They wouldnt put any heating on and now i have the flu because of this .

I’ve had a couple flights this week on United that were delayed by an hour or more

Should have video screens Plane audio was poor and without wired connection hard to understand crew. Should serve more than just cups of water and pretzels on six hour flight. Did not see crew rest of flight. Fix charging sockets to retain charging blocks.

My bag was lost with my medicine and I am very inconvenienced. I don’t know what happened, however I want you to do a better job on getting people’s bag back

Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept.

Do not like the feeling of being in the basic economy. Everyone should feel good no matter what.

Our original business class flight was cancelled so we not only downgraded but we were also spread out across the plane not sitting together in separate middle seats. My poor kids were scared and couldn’t see me on the flight and the crew wasn’t sensitive to the situation and what the airlines did to us. Very dissatisfied with United airlines.

The WiFi didn’t work and the seats are too close together. Very uncomfortable.

So so. Terrible aircraft choice for that leg of the flight.

Our seat tv didn’t work All the rest was perfect

The experience was generally above average. The only downside was the absence of WiFi during my flight from Vancouver to San Francisco.

Headphones for the movies have too much bass and can't be adjusted. Almost impossible to hear. Great movie selections but can't really watch them because you can't hear them. Also the system is very slow.

Once again my complaint is how close the seats are together. Also, the bathrooms were not very clean by the second half of the flight.

Excellent in flight service, perhaps the best we've ever had. Business class feels tired and needs improvement to compete with other airlines. The food looked good but tasted terrible. Check in was quick, the flight arrived early and our luggage was on our flight with us.

Terrible quality wifi and they charge a lot for it. They nickel and dime you for everything.

It took 5 hour to get a crew to D Ice the plan. We had to sit on the runway for 5 hrs. in Calgary. It snows most of the winter. No proactive plan. In addition, after 3 calls to customer service they couldn't figure out how to have my wife and myself sit together on her birthday weekend. Everybody kept passing the buck. No decision from customer service, luggage drop off or check in team. The experience was a complete mess! I don't think we'll ever fly on this airline again.

Of our SIX flights in my travel group, five were delayed, and all (except possibly one) were just company screwups. One traveler had her CARRY ON baggage put on another flight because Air Canada could not properly do "weight and Balance". Bags missing for a day. Another traveler never made it. Then, (humor here) the flagship airline of the socialist country has NOTHING FOR FREE on board. Expect to pay for pretzels, folks. How's that socialism working out for ya, aye? I might book air Canada in the future if I have a meeting that I REALLY want to MISS!

I don’t know if there were any snacks served on the 5 hour flight. I might have been napping when the attendants came around. But I usually wake up when they do.

Food offerings need to be more plentiful and beverages need to be more healthy.

The crew suki/zuki is very rude. The zoning is only being announce once and there’s no way we will know what is currently allowed to board. I’m zone 5 (currently it was zone 3 but hich I didn’t know coz i went to the restroom). I saw a guy (zone 4) start boarding also. Then my husband (zone 5) started boarding also. But when it’s my turn, he said that i have to wait coz it’s still zone 3 and I questioned him why was my husband allowed when we are both zone 5 and i pointed to him my husband who’s boarding already and he told me to be attentive next time. And i told him he was so rude u like the other lady staff who is nice. The lady is the one who allowed the man (zone 4) and my husband to start boarding. There were 2 lines (the lady and suki)
