FAQs - booking Cape Verde flights

  • Which city should I fly into to access Santa Maria Beach?

Sal Island is one of the best beach destinations in the world. On the island’s south coast, you will be introduced to blue skies, golden sands, turquoise waters, and happy people in this relaxing, beautiful paradise. This begins with a flight to Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID). It is the main airport serving Sal Island, home to Santa Maria Beach. The airport is 12 miles from Santa Maria city center, and you will have easy transport options from the airport to the beach.

  • What are my best options for flights to Cape Verde from Southeast U.S.?

Flights to Cape Verde from the Southeast U.S. are available at different airports, including Miami International Airport (MIA), Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and Tampa International Airport (TPA). • What are the passport and visa requirements for visiting Cape Verde?

You must have a valid passport to visit Cape Verde as a US citizen. Your passport must be valid at the time of entry and have at least six months of validity beyond your planned return date. Your passport must also have at least one blank page for the entry stamp. You do not need a visa if visiting Cape Verde for less than 30 days for tourism purposes. However, for longer stays, you will need a visa, and the single-entry visa should suffice as it will allow you to visit the country for up to 90 days.

  • Which airport is closest to Chaves Beach?

If a trip to Chaves Beach is part of your itinerary, the best airport to fly to is Aristides Pereira International Airport (BVC), on the same island, approximately 3.1 miles from the beach. Since there are no direct flights to BVC from the U.S., you can fly to one of the major hubs in Europe or Africa and take a connecting flight. From BVC, you can take a taxi or organize a private transfer to the beach, which will take around 15 to 20min.

  • Which is the best airport to fly into in Cape Verde?

  • How do I get to Praia city center from Nelson Mandela International Airport (RAI)?

The best way to get to Praia city center from RAI, approximately 3.3 miles, is by taxi or car rental. Car rental companies like Hertz and Intercity have counters near the airport’s Arrivals Hall.

  • What are the most common layover cities when flying to Cape Verde?

There are no direct flights from the US to Cape Verde. All flights flying this route have at least a single layover en route. TAP Air Portugal is the main airline providing flights from the US to Cape Verde. If you are flying from New York Airport (JFK), the most common layover city is Lisbon (LIS). • Which airport should I fly to if I plan to visit Santa Luzia?

Travelers with granted access to the uninhabited island of Santa Luzia can fly to Cesária Évora Airport (VXE) on the island of São Vicente, approximately 12 miles from the island. From the U.S., you should look for flights to major hubs like Lisbon, Madrid, Casablanca, Dakar, or Accra, where you’ll find a connecting flight to VXE. Different airlines offer one-stop flights from New York’s Newark Liberty (EWR) and John F. Kennedy (JFK) international airports to VXE.

  • Which airline has lounges at Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID)?

Unfortunately, there are no airlines with lounges at SID. However, if you want to relax after your long flight to Cape Verde, you can do so at Safeport Business Aviation Lounge at SID. The facility is airside at the Safeport Executive Terminal, and passengers can access the lounge facilities by paying a one-time fee at the door.

  • How do I get to Cape Verde from Boston?

You can take a connecting flight from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to RAI. You’ll find one-stop flights on the route operated by TAP Air Portugal, with stops at Lisbon (LIS) in Portugal.

Moreover, TAP Air Portugal offers flights to Cape Verde from almost all major international airports in the US, including Los Angeles International (LAX), Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), and Washington Dulles Airport (IAD). TAP Air Portugal offers single-layover flights with a stopover in Lisbon. Most of the flights are offered on the Airbus A321neo narrow-body jets.

  • Are there SIM card outlets at Nelson Mandela International Airport?

Since you are most likely to land at RAI from different destinations in the U.S., you’ll find multiple SIM card outlets in the Arrivals section just after the RX check.

Coming from USA it was nice to be treated nice for a change. Even though our flight was pretty short we were served breakfast. On time flight with very caring staff. Please teach American carriers how to treat people.

More space between seats and in bathroom. I don’t think there was any entertainment offered. If there was, I wasn’t aware.

Every meal/snack included something with ham/pork - even the cookies had "swine fat" (which we only knew because we thoroughly checked the ingredients). There were no vegetarian options, and we had not been given the option of pre-selecting a meal when purchasing our tickets or checking in. That made for a VERY long flight. We were fortunate that we had brought our own snacks as back-up.

Waited in line for hours just to get a boarding pass which would not print at the kiosk or load on my iPhone. Waiting again for about 45 minutes to get through passport control. Poorly managed airport. The flight and crew were great and the flight was very comfortable.

I booked and paid for my original flight with E-Dreams. Also made seat selections. Got an email a few days later saying my return flight had be cancelled?? Called E-Dreams and they said it was the airline that cancelled (Sato)? Told to rebook the return flight myself? Cost was double the original flight and was booking me on the same flight as I originally booked?? Called back, the agent agreed to cancel my flight to the Azores and AGREED to a full REFUND. The agent advised me to re-book the flight on my own. Did so and ended up with the EXACT same flights as originally booked?? Have only received a PARTIAL REFUND. Still out approximately $300 dollars?? Is this a SCAM. How do I get the remaining REFUND?? Regards, Brett Parry

I wasn't able to log into the onboard wifi entertainment, but I fell asleep on the flight anyway.

Cons: "Paid for business and Seats did not recline, not was there any entertainment provided from a flight from Lisbon Portugal to Boston. This was not a business international flight although it was sold and advertised as one. Awful."
Cons: "I paid for business and there were no TVs or any entertainments from Portugal to Boston on Airbus 321. The seats barely reclined so basically I was charged for business and got a premium economy seat. They do not have a business section, never flying with them again."
Pros: "Cheap aitfare"
Cons: "On time takeoff Better food Television screens to watch movies Better selection of movies"

I thought Miami's airport was very disorganized during the Boarding.

Very efficient boarding - other airlines could learn from them. Friendly, efficient crew. Red eye flight, so dinner meal was irrelevant. Breakfast could have been more substantial. Seats reasonably comfy.

Perfect although it took an hour to board the plane but other than that it was great

The quality of the aircraft and the professionalism of TAP's staff were perfect. The quality of vegan meals can be hit or miss depending on the airline and the city of departure; on this flight, our vegan meals were quite good. The boarding process for the connecting flight in Lisbon could have been organized a bit better, but it did not spoil our overall experience with TAP, which was excellent. I'd definitely recommend TAP to others.

We liked the crew. They were competent, professional and friendly. The only big negative was our departure was delayed several times and the airport staff did not communicate what the problems were and what we should expect.

Two of three flight attendants were not super kind as I would expect. The very kind young lady in my section was wonderful but then lady and man up front were not. Sorry but it makes a difference !

Airline attendant never walks along the isle to check if everyone is ok. The food is worst I’ve experienced. Chicken pasta is very salty while the fish is bland and over-cooked. Only two toilets for the entire economy section.

Pros: "Food service was very good - and the crew kept going even after we hit turbulence. I'd already been served, but I know from past experience with other airlines that there's nothing worse than smelling the hot food and being told that service is being discontinued,,,,while you're now hungry"
Cons: "Lisbon airport was stressful, perhaps more guidance before releasing us into the melee. I found an Air Portugal email about Lisbon Airport just now"
Cons: "The clarity about baggage fees, really unclear and very expensive."
Cons: "The flight wasn't full but still had some people seated next to each other. Flights should allow for social distancing right now"

Babies, crying, movies and sound doesn’t working overpacked and delayed flight

While I had a business class ticket I wasn’t given priority to boar. Again my luggage had priority tags and these bags didn’t come out till the end!! The food at the lounge was only two type of sandwiches and warm juices and soft drinks I thought I’m paying for good services but the least u can say it’s mediocre at best. I’m considering not to use TAM AGAIN.

Delays with no communication. Broken business class seat and no one seems to care or help.

The head of the flight attendants was very rude and impolite and insisted to know my nationality on flight while I had my Can passeport! against all rules!

Adequate. Served our purpose of getting there safely. Nothing to rave about. Decent value for the amount paid

I lost my connection flight from Casablanca to Marrakech because we arrived late to Casablanca. I had to rent a car to continue my trip . I need refunds

Bad service in la RAM from beginning to end. The crew ladies are impolite and rude and insensitive to passengers requests. I do not recommend traveling with Royal Air Maroc (La RAM) - worst service.

when we ask for water or any help nobody care.. they are too arrogant

The plane was new, clean and nice. The crew was very attentive and pleasant. The food wasn’t great, though - even in business class…

Pros: "It got us to Casablanca. Should have taken a car though"
Cons: "The plane sat on the runway at over 100 F and the A/C was not on. They barely started it once we were in the air"
