This is a restaurant you start to crave after someone mentions it! hahaha! Never\nhave I had a bad meal or bad service... Never had to wait for my table,either...\nDelicious Prime Rib, dinner includes the 'works' . A great by the glass wine list with a\nproper full bar... Looking forward to going back .
The House of Prime Rib does not disappoint! But you have to want Prime Rib -- they do one thing and do it superbly! We go a couple of times a year and have a blast each time. \nIf you love prime rib - you must check it out!
Excellent food and service! Will be back for sure!
Solid prime rib as always. Morton's prime rib is still better. Tonight's server rushed us out and was tipped accordingly.
Classic San Francisco spot. Seriously getting better with age.
Our waiter made us wait to long for our food and bill.he charged us for a split meal for my daughter.he could have told us to just get her a meal rather than getting charged for nothing.my visit was on 2/28 at 630.you know who you are waiter!
Excellent food and ambience. Great entertainment by the wait staff. Worth every penny!!!
Extradordinary classic san francisco dining. Service can't be matched. For what you get the prices are incredibly reasonable. Wine price multiplier less than many places. My third time in 40 years and it is an institution that someday will be gone and you will wish you had made the effort. Valet for $12. is a slam dunk
the salads was very good especially the sauce and the steak was fine not very surprised me .
Loud atmosphere, but didn't deter from a nice night out.
Terrific. Absolutely terrific! Amazing that the quality never drops!
My waiter Andrew offered great service as did Chef Christian. See you all on the 10th of March!
Maybe our waiter was new, but he was very scattered and seemed a little overwhelmed. Service was a little slow as a result. the Prime Rib was TERRIFIC, but the sides were just ok and the Yorkshire pudding was a disappointment. Good wine list, but the way they serve cocktails leads to a watered down drink. A total of 6 of us went but it was so noisy you could not have a conversation that included everyone. I'd only go with 4 or 2. Seems like it is a very touristy place...but the Prime Rib was terrific!!
Prime rib is the best bar none - great friendly service - always busy so plan months in advance
As usual, a great, delicious, fun experience with efficient, nice service. The HOPR is an institution in San Francisco with a well-deserved good reputation. The value is remarkable and the meal is almost decision free. It is still one of the great bargains in town and always lively.\n\nThe Manhattans and standard drinks are well worth the money as they basically give you more than one when they give you the shaker as well. For beef lovers, it is an absolute gem.
HOPR....I mean it's an SF Institution. Is it the best Prime Rib i have ever eaten in my life...pretty close. If you like meat and want to eat at a not so touristy but def BnT place in the city go to HOPR. You will need reservations, unless you don't mind the bar and waiting up to 30min. The full menu is served at the bar but you don't get the full show. HOPR is like a Benihana and Ruths Chris melded into a fancy party room of a Medivel Times.
We love this place. In my opinion, the best prime rib experience in the Bay Area. From the salad, side dishes, and prime rib, all are distinct HOPR recipe. Only drawback is they're always busy, so be prepared to wait a month in advance to get a weekend reservation. Come hungry, leave happy. Yes, I know I probably copied that caption somewhere, but it's the truth!
San Francisco classic. Have to go at least once in your life. Don't forget the second slice and the secret menu.
Best Prime Rib Dinner in town. Just pick your choice of cut; salad, potato and vegetables included. You will not go home hungry ð Book ahead, always busy.
They do one thing REALLY well! Please don't go there and order the fish or chicken, GET THE PRIME RIB!\nSuper moist, flavorful and considering all the things that come with it, not a bad deal. I'm not a drinker, but pretty extensive wine/drink menu. Only down side is the noise level, but for a friendly get together, great place to go.
Love the Yorkshire pudding. Get the smaller portion. Apparently they will offer you an extra slice at the end of the meal at no cost - provided you eat it there.
I've always loved House of Prime Rib. It's still #1gir prime rib. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, but for some reason it still feels like you're in a fancy atmosphere. It's a must go to place in SF.
Classic old school prime rib house. If you want something besides prime rib, this is not the place for you. Worth a try if you haven't.
Really enjoyed our evening at the House Of Prime Rib. Restaurant was packed and we were still seated at our scheduled reservation time. Server was all business but was friendly and caterered to our needs. Used Lyft to drive us to the restaurant from Oakland and that was a smart decision. Sure not the San Francisco dinning experience from days past as customer attire has really fallen short. Oh well.
I haven't been to the House of Prime Rib in over three years. It was superb. Service was outstanding. The food was served to perfection. The ambiance was amazing.
As usual, the HOPR was packed. Reservations were at 4:30pm but we were able to be seated earlier. Waiter was knowledgable and pleasant. Food was excellent coupled with the fine\nservice made for a good time at HOPR. We'll be back.
Have been coming here for since 1983, it never ever disappoints.
I've come here with my adult children, we always enjoy the food, always a great choice, the service has always been excellent, very attentive. We will just keep coming back.
The food is always great . It is the best prime rib ever.
Family in town visiting
We had a party of six people to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. Our reservation was at 5:30 pm on Sat, 2/18/17. The place was busy as usual, so, we didn't get seated until 15 minutes later. This is fine as I understand this can happen frequently especially in a great restaurant like the House of Prime Rib. What I dislike was that we were sat in a booth which comfortably seated only four people. We squeezed in five people in the booth and the sixth sat in a chair positioned at the end outside the booth. Luckily, we are fairly small people; however, we still felt like sardines with very little elbow room. In addition, the table was not large enough to contain six meals comfortably, so, we had to move dishes around including removing the bread plates. As always, the waiter was great and the food was excellent. When we make future reservations for five or more people, we'll request a larger table.
Probably visited San Francisco 25 times and can't believe this was my first visit to House of Prime rib! The food was fabulous! They only serve prime rib, but the best I have ever had! It comes with the most divine salad as well as wonderful sides all for what I would call a bargain price in SF, can not wait to go again! This is a do not miss place if you like prime rib!
After hearing so many rave comments about this restaurant, I finally got a reservation for Friday nite at 9pm. They are so popular, I had to make the resies two months in advance. Arrived to a packed restaurant, meat eaters abound in San Francisco. It was loud, raucous and the thermostat must've been set at 80 b/c it felt like a sauna in there. It didn't help to have those rolling carts right next to the table which added to the heat. The noise level was so loud, I felt like I had to shout to my dinner partners and then after awhile I just gave up, concentrating on my meal. I had ordered the complete meal which was a fresh salad, side of creamed spinach, Prime Rib and baked potato. The Prime Rib was meh I've had better. Salad was iceberg lettuce and julienned beets with their own dressing. The baked potato was huge and fully loaded with sour cream, bacon n chives. It was enough for two to share. \n\nI'm glad I finally got a chance to eat here, but honestly, with all the other fine restaurants in SF, I won't be back to this one.
Very noisy difficult to have a conversation. Tables very close together. Food was excellent. Will definitely go again and recommend the restaurant as well. Worth the few inconveniences.
Sarah our waitress has taken great care of us for almost three years, she's so amazing and goes out of her way to make sure we're happy. The food is flawless every single time and consistent, always a pleasure to be there.
Always fantastic. Great place to meet friends. Valet right in front most appreciated!
This is my fifth or sixth visit to the HOPR - my family and I just love it there. Food and service are both impeccable.
Everytime I've been here over that last 10 years I've had to wait a extended duration of time to be seated. This past week I had a 7pm reservation and still had to wait with my party of 3 until 845 to be seated. The only excuse I got was sorry there isn't anything available yet and your reservation was switched to 9pm. I clearly had my confirmation email on me and still no help. Service on the front is going downhill
Please go and enjoy the super fine food. Perfect place to take my lovely wife.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday thinking I would have a special night out. She ended up getting food poisoning and I felt I was cheated out of 145$!!!!!!!!I was embarrassed and so very disappointed . I will never go here again.
I'm a regular and have been going to House Prime Rib since the late 80s early 90s. I bring everyone I know here. It's one of my favorite restaurants on earth!\n\nI was there on Monday and 2 people in our group had food poisoning. We were sick for days. It wasn't until yesterday that I feel better and can post my review here. I was sick for 4 days. We think it was the creamed spinach or horseradish. :(
House of Prime Rib has the best prime rib. It was out of this world. We have been to many steak houses and definitely this is the best prime rib. Sides were ok, not great. Little too much pepper in the veggies. Service was exceptional. It was noisy in the main room, hard to have a conversation. If you want quiet, ask to be seated in the back two rooms.
I'm one of the regulars who come to HOPR for almost 20 years. I'm still amazed that the food is unchanged and consistently great! Customer service also excellent.\n\nThis time I brought friends from New Jersey and our waiter definitely impressed. Thank you HOPR. Whenever I want to go to a restaurant that's guaranteed good time, HOPR Is my default.
great food and wonderful experience every time. the service and quality of the prime rib is always 100 percent.
A feed lot for human critters eating beef critters. Loud, crowded. Formula reception, formula service, followed by formula feeding process. There's eating and then there's dining. At one time (not so long ago), this was a place for a dining experience. It is still an 'experience'...but the dining has gone away to become a feed house. The goal seems to be 'how many can we seat in the space; how fast can we feed 'em, and how fast can we get 'em out?' Anyone remember Rawhide: 'Head 'em up, move 'em out!' Like all things with time, it has become dated...just look at the carving carts, the covers held together with silver duct tape. Remember when the carver chef would wheel the cart up to your table, ask how you wanted your cut, and then cut YOUR slice and carefully add the selected sides and hand the plate to the server for delivery to the table? That was then and this is now...head 'em up, move 'em out! Will I be back? Of course I will...it is the House of Prime Rib.
I've lived in San Francisco 20 years but had never made it here to eat. It will not be that long until we return. The service was too notch, the ambiance exactly what I expected from an institution, and the food was delicious.
House of Prime Rib never disappoints. The bare bones menu is executed well. \nOne minor snafu, our drink order was wrong twice, finally correct on the third try and we were charged for an extra cocktail. Sorted out easily, but still a pain. \nThe quality of food though is outstanding right down to the luscious yorkshire pudding.
The House of Prime Rib was so nice to keep our 6:00 pm reservation when we found ourselves in extra heavy traffic and running 30 minutes late. We were greeted, seated and served our perfectly prepared martinis. There is nothing better than HPR dinners. We always say that we are coming back as soon as possible but manage to dine there about once or twice a year, since we live in San Jose. Miss seeing the owner and wish him a long and healthy retirement. We never fail to recommend HPR highly to anyone bringing prime rib, San Francisco, dining or martinis into the conversation. Thank you for another amazing dinner with pals. DB
The checkin process was difficult to navigate as there was a line out the door to checkin. There were many people standing around but a hallway full of empty chairs for those people to sit down in. Food was delicious, but service was really slow, and the waiter even said Tues night isn't even busy. So I cannot imagine going on a weekend. Noise level was really loud, so hard to hold a conversation.
Waited 40 minutes WITH a reservation. NOT cool. We had people just off a plane who were very hungry.
Make your reservation early! Foods was great!
Simply amazing. The meat is just perfect. A must go and see.
Love it this is the place to be !!!
I've known about House of Prime Rib forever but have always ended up elsewhere. Now I know what I've been missing all these years. The menu here is limited to, you guessed it, Prime Rib with few other options. But with the feature dish so great, they should feel no pressure to deviate. What a great meal it was. I can't wait to return.
We celebrated my son's birthday . We all enjoyed the dinner and the excellent service of their staffs. I saw how they work as a team! Thank you
Awesome as usual. It is annual tradition. Never disappoints
Delicious food as always, this restaurant keeps us wanting to come back.
Always a great time at HOPR. The service is great and the food is even better! Totally worth the drive for this treat. Recommend making reservations at least a month in advance if you want to get seated during prime time.
Came here for Valentines. It was my first experience with the place and I was not disappointed. The service was awesome as was the food.
Very disappointed in food quality this was my second visit and it did not live up to my memory of my prior experience. The wait staff was amazing and attentive. But the evening took a turn when the Prime Rib arrived. It was flavorless full of gristle literally five bites in I stopped eating. My husband was shocked at the quality of meat after I had talked the establishment up for months based on previous experience. This was a surprise dinner for my husband and I left feeling as if I needed to apologize for misleading him. I have sent numerous friends and family here because of my past experience but after this visit I don't know if I will return.
Was there for a special dinner with my sweetie. He Loved it
Excellent as always! Just so consistently good. We will be back.
If your date loves meat and it's their birthday, it's the perfect place to celebrate life and a delicious meal!
House of Prime Rib is like a well oiled machine. They have it all down to a science and their food is just amazingly tender. It is my favorite place to eat!
Birthday party of ten 2/10/17
Beyond or expectations! Server John was great! Friendly, helpful and totally on his game. We will be back HoP, we will be back!
Took my friends from out of town here and we loved it! The waitress suggested the perfect wine pair that goes with the prime rib. Can't wait to go back!
Service was lacking. Prime rib was delicious. However, I grade on overall experience and I've had better.
We reserved our table for 6 over a month in advance. We were seated quickly (even early) and service was very quick and good. Food quite good but how can you tell the difference between the best prime rib and very good? I've had as good in other places for a lot less money. It was way too expensive a dinner for the lack of ambiance we had. It was so noisy we could barely hear to the other end of the table. Overall, I think that even though it's an old SF institution, the ambiance and noise was just too much for the high price charged. I won't be going back.
the food was a slab of luke warm meat on the table. the worst meat I have ever had. no flavor, just a slab of raw hunters meat on the table
The food is consistently delicious. However the extra sliver they give you is noticeably less generous now. Thin like a deli meat.
As always a consistent and awesome meal! It never ceases to amaze me that it's packed and crowded at 9:00 pm at night on a weekday! Great service and awesome meat keep me coming back!!
Great food and service. Extremely crowded and noisy.
Great place to dine but not if you want to hear what your table mates are saying.\nAlso could we get more room on the tables. Food is always excellent, we always take\nour out of town guests to The house of prime rib. We also always spend our special \noccasions there.
My first slice of house of prime rib cut was the size and thickness of the usual second slice. I pointed it out to the chef cutting the prime rib and he didn't re cut another piece. I pointed it out to my waitress and she didn't do anything about it. I'm a very small person so I felt that I was profiled by them and given a VERY SMALL piece of prime rib because I'm small. This is unacceptable, and I paid the same price as everyone else. I'm not going lie, I am VERY UPSET about this.
Best restaurant in San Francisco!!!You get your moneys worth!
No where can you get a better meal and prime rib... Service is superior!\nMake reservations weeks ahead!
Carlos was a wonderful! Food was delicious as always, great meal with all the sides dishes you could ever think of! Well worth the cost for such a delicious meal.
I have eaten here many many times over the last 30 years. As I get older, I'm finding there is more noise, and it seems, more tables as well. This last visit, the dining room was so jammed in, they could not even bring the meat cart to the table! To me, this is a basic part of dining here! The ambiance seems to be slipping away as they make room for more and more people. It's still my favorite restaurant and I will definitely be back, but I will make sure the next time I will be seated in a different room!
Their specialty the Prime Rib is excellent as well as the sides. Deserts were good and serving size for main course, sides and deserts were substantial . The service that we received from our waiters were excellent,
I've never had a bad meal there. Always the same for over 45 years since going there.
Christmas gift to my mother. And sons birthday. Party of 8. Very noisy but this is my families favorite restaurant \nMy parents first came nearly 60 years ago. My sister and I were always treated to this fine experience growing up. We've brought our dates, our spouses and our kids here. Now our kids bring their spouses too. We look forward to this dinner for weeks in advance.
Birthday. Have been enjoying this place for 47 years. Gus was great also
Service was okay. Hard to find waiter. Had to ask twice for orange juice. Wasn't easy to find waiters or help around because they seemed too busy. Took forever to find someone to get us the check. More attentiveness is needed.
Good food. Multiple size prime rib dinners to accommodate all appetites. Excellent staff!
House of Prime Rib is world famous and is the best place for all occasions. I highly recommend the restaurant for the salad, bread and prime rib. This is a great place
Keep In mind this is the house of prime rib... there are few selections to be made when dining there outside of your drink and your choice of 2 sides. However, this is the point. They know what they are preparing and they do it well. The food is perfectly prepared as you request it. I like my Prime Rib medium rare, my boyfriend likes his well done. Despite the difference, but cuts were remarkable tender and full of flavor. The service staff is easy going while still on point. This isn't a snobby place at all. With a reservation you are seated promptly, so if you arrive 30 minutes early and want a drink from the bar prior to being seated, don't check in early. Downside, if you choose to see it that way, this place is loud. Not in a rowdy kind of way, but people dining there are all engaged in conversation. It's hard not to notice the volume, but if you look around you'll see everyone around you enjoying themselves, so I can't fault the place for that.
The BEST Prime rib I've had in a while.\nA great ambience for a dinner date or a special occasion.\nA MUST IF YOUR IN SF!!!!
Service was awesome. Food plentiful and excellently repaired. Only complaint was felt rushed; we never got to sit back and enjoy the cocktail. Also, service staff running by continually (understood and hard working) but contributed to urgency to eat and leave. We had 6PM reservations on a Tuesday...didn't expect not to sit back a bit and enjoy the expensive, tasty experience.
Service not the best. Good made up for it.
We had a great night, prime rib was prepared perfectly.
We go here twice a year as a tradition and are always happy with all aspects of the 'old school' and classic restaurant.
Amazing as usual. Prime rib was spot on. Martins (with the shaker) were perfect. My favorite restaurant in SF.
This is our special/celebration place. Wife and I both ordered the House Cut.....outstanding dinner. Always enjoy their fantastic salad to get meal started, then the creamed spinach w/ yorkshire pudding and prime rib (the way you want it presented). Can't wait for my anniversary in June!!!
I know they are a popular restaurant, and perhaps they don't care, but they really need to work on their front of house. It felt more like they were trying to herd as many cattle into the restaurant and seat as many people as they could for turn over to make money rather than provide a great dining experience. Comment specific to front of house: when I call to increase AND decrease my party size, 'we can make that change for you. but please note that there might be a delay in your seating' ... There's a difference in a delay because I added more people to my reservation and it might be difficult to find another seat (add ONE person, from 5 to 6 people), I can understand that. But when I call to change it from 6 to 4 since some of the guest got sick, I got the same response. That's a terrible response to a customer, indicating that because I made a change, it will result in delay in my seating. And the when we arrived early to check in, we were greeted with short responses 'is your whole party here? we will seat you closer to 8pm' in a curt tone. I was not being pushy or rude, in no way was I anything but nice and polite, the LEAST you can do is smile and reciprocate the positive attitude. You might be doing this all night, but you are the FIRST person I see, and you set the tone.\n\nDon't get me wrong, AFTER being seated, it was a pleasant experience. The waiter was amazing though, despite being busy, he kept his cool and took care of us the best he could, considering it was so busy. \n\nIt was noisy though. Hard to hold a conversation over the table. \n\nFirst piece/cut + sides were yummy. Worth it for the experience. But that second serving! lol, it is a VERY thin slice, it's not a second. hahaha. \n\nToo full to try dessert & we aren't drinkers, but it looked like they had a good selection of both.\n\nGood to catch up with someone or a group of old friends. Can keep it casual and if you don't expect much from the front of the house, it'll be ok.
Incredible! An absolute must for visitors and locals.
The House of Prime Rib is practically legendary in San Fran for good reason. While the staff is trained and handles the table like a top steakhouse, the restaurant has no dress code and the prices are more in line with a mid level restaurant leading to an incredible value experience. The prime rib was excellent, cooked exactly as you order and the salty, rich, au jus provides great seasoning. Select the medium horseradish for the superior balance. Definitely order the delicious looking baked potato rather than mashed, and creamed corn rather than creamed spinach. The mashed potatoes were almost instant like, with a sticky watery texture, and the creamed spinach was nearly a paste overwhelmingly rich with intense bacon flavor. I did very much enjoy the suffle-like Yorkshire pudding, though. Even though the sides can feel lackluster and out of date, there is a charm to the throwback offerings.
I have been eating at the House of Prime Rib for 25 years for special occasions and last night was the worst experience I have ever had there. I was highly embarrassed that I took my out-of -town guests here. To start things off, they took the wonderful sitting area of the bar out to stuff as many tables as they could in that area. Our waiter was the worst and he was rude on top of it. He rushed us through our meal. He even tried to take a drink order as soon as we sat down; too bad 3 of the 7 in my party were in the bathroom! He acted perturbed that I told him we needed to wait until everyone was back at the table. He came back and said what can I get you from the bar and what you want to order! He didn't even give us two minutes to relax. We could not even have a round of drinks because the waiter brought our salad before the drinks. My fault for not stepping up and telling him we would like drinks before we order. It seems the only thing they are concerned about is table turn-over. I had seven people in my party and only two of us had good cuts of Prime Rib cooked to the temperature requested and some of the cuts were very fatty. The salad was full of stems and was not seasoned up to par. Only 5 of the seven had salads but the waiter wasted no time in taking the bowl back. When I asked him why he took the bowl, he replied very curtly, 'you only asked for 5 salads if you want more I'll get you some.' That wasn't the point! We ate in the beef eater room and we were just jammed in. Our tables backed up to another and the chairs were hitting each other. There was some manager with a clipboard constantly in the room checking the table statuses. It has turned into a tourist attraction-might as well be down at Fisherman's Wharf. Gone are the days when Gus came to check on you. I'll be finding another special place to take guests. Terrible embarrassing experience all around.
I have been going to the HofPR since I was young -- it hasn't changed. The food is still fabulous -- a salad (assembled, tossed and spun tableside) that has their secret seasoned salt, slabs of perfectly cooked prime rib carved to order. With corn or spinach on the side, and a baked potatoe the size of your head! With all the fixin's! And yorkshire pudding (who has that?!) and an amazing au jus! If you get the largest cut and you eat it they have a 'dessert' slab. The bar is great -- wines selection is wonderful. But book FAR in advance -- they are packed every day and over packed on the weekends.
The staff was amazing!!
Our server, Shar, was excellent! And the food, as always was superb!
Great time thanks
Twice a year...
Excellent food, outstanding value, personable service, exciting wine list...what more can I say? Make your reservation TODAY!!
If you are looking for a great Prime Rib dinner, with SF character,\nthis is the place! We thoroughly enjoyed the food and our waiter \nwas excellent!
The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding, the experience was outstanding. I will definitely be back again!
I'm so sorry to not give all high stars. The service was outstanding! My Mom has been to the restaurant many times over many years and it was the first time she was disappointed in the food. I hope this is just between us and not a public comment. The salad dressing was simply all a mix similar to thousand island which is not a favorite of ours but that is ok. The bread fantastic as always! The prime rib average. I think because we have experienced better it wasn't the best for the price. I know dining in San Francisco is expensive regardless so we expected to pay accordingly. Our bill for two with tip was $200. Thanks for the overall experience which was worth it!
This was my first time here after hearing about it for years. The food lived up to the hype. The service of everyone except our waiter was fantastic. While waiting for our table, the host, the bartenders and the server were all very friendly and professional. It was only after we were seated that our waiter was kind of dismissive and rude. He seemed to not really want to take our order and rushed through the whole process. Other than that, the overall experience was good.\n\nOne final note, I don't know how beneficial it is to book through Open Table. I made this reservation months before because it was going to be for my birthday. I listed that the res would be four people. We were stuck at such a small table that we all were hitting our legs against each other. I feel that a res stating four people would generate a bigger space, but then again I probably should have called to get a bigger table instead of booking through here.
First time here and it blew my expectations.\nIt's pricey but well worth it.
Excellent beef--along with Yorkshire pudding!-- and service. Really great meal (even the fish dinner) and wonderful service.
Excellent time sharing a special occasion with some colleagues. Food was outstanding and the ambiance matched. Would recommend for any special event.
One place I always enjoy dining at when I'm in San Francisco. Food and service is always consistently great.
Awesome service and yummy prime rib! They were very accommodating as we increased the size of our party at the last moment
Absolutely delicious and never ever disappoints. Food is great and service is impeccable.
This is the second time coming here and it gets better and better every time I come.
I used to love The House of Prime Rib but not anymore. Went for an early dinner with the family on Sunday. The place was packed with tables too close to each other, waiters reaching across the table with dishes & drinks because they could not walk around the table. So sloppy & not what you expect for the price. Food was mediocre at best, salad wilted, not fresh & cold like it used to be. Meat was cold, one of our party had salmon & it was mushy, overlooked. Bus people asking to clear plates every time you left your fork down. Very tacky & annoying. This restaurant used to be classy but not anymore.
Anniversary of my Fathers passing. Service was horrible and the restaurant didn't put the wine and flowers on our table that my wife brought earlier to the restaurant.
Once again I had a spectacular meal with family and friends for my birthday. You can't get better Prime Rib anywhere else in the City. For days up to our reservation we texted each other saying we kept imagining the Yorkshire pudding, cream spinach, and mouth watering meat. Wine pairing and traditional cocktails take us back to older days and fine dining. Count me in again...
Absolutely great Prime Rib and surprisingly great sides too!! I will definitely be back...
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! MEAT MEAT MEAT and more MEAT! Staff, ambiance, and cocktails are fantastic. Multiple visits throughout the year. I would give it 10 stars if I could. :)
I thought we were going to get a dark, buttoned down, formal experience accompanied with a big bill ... What we got: a fairly informal, slightly aging, dinner with a bit of a show and a fairly decent value for our money.. The menu is limited to the 4/5 cuts + a lone fish option. Each entree comes accompanied with a salad, spinach/corn, baked/mashed potatoes and side of yokshire pudding. The meat i was told by my dining companions was better than excellent. I has the salmon and that was a very sad affair...(I could had bought better cooked salmon at the Whole Foods buffet)... But come for the beef and your unlikely to be disappointed. Get a shaken drink, all under $12 and and you get the entire shaker at your table (which is worth 2 extra refills). Service was excellent... We had no room for desert :(
Our favorite place for prime rib. Attentive service, great presentation, dependably excellent food.
it will leave you speechless the food is super great..!
The food was fantastic and our server was on top of it. However, It is very loud in the dining room. It was difficult to hold a conversation. So definitely do not recommend for a romantic dinner but a fun place for a birthday or yummy dinner.
This is a San Francisco gem. Classic restaurant with service that should be the standard for new up and coming restaurants. They could easily be called 'Hospitaity of Prime Rib'. This is probably my 5th or 6th visit in the 19 years I've lived in SF and it never ceases to be an enchanting evening. Thanks HOPR!
Hands the best steak house in San Francisco, the Bay Area, California and the whole damn West Coast. They are the best at what they do. Period.
Love this place!
Too too noisy for us seniors.\nFrom our previous visits, the cut was always thick and size varied according to order but this time we all seemed to get thinner cuts. Don't know if it was due to the chef who prepared our orders.\nStill delicious though.
I have been here for three times. The C/P value of the dining is perfect, especially in the States. Their red wine also fantastic and I would suggest everyone should try their wine with the wonderful meat.
Food was amazing but the dining room we were in was very loud, made it difficult to conversate.
They do one thing and they do it very well.
Came here for my Fat Kid (food group) dinner. Had an amazing meal as usual. Will be back soon!
Our first time at the House of Prime Rib, and it will not be our last. The prime rib was very good. The creamed spinach was awesome--- I made the mistake of getting the creamed corn and my wife got the spinach --- I am lucky she loves me so much and shared her creamed spinach with me.\nAs good as the food was, the service was impeccable-- I watched as each new table came in and they were like a fine tuned machine, on top of everything. We never had an empty glass -- water or wine. I would highly recommend The House of Prime Rib
I have been going to House of Prime Rib for 33 years for so many reasons. It's the BEST prime rib in San Francisco! I always recommend it to family & friends visiting. The service is amazingly quick and it was nice to see a change in the dessert menu. \n\nThe only downfall is the booth I was sitting at needs more cushion or something to make it firm. I felt like I was sinking in my seat as I was eating.
food takes a while to get to your table, but it was delicious
This was for a birthday dinner with the family and the service was excellent. Food came fast and was all cooked wonderfully. I haven't been there since I was little and the place has not changed. Would go again with friends and loved ones.
Hands down, one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. Please don't ever close.
Simply the best all-around meal for price. always consistent.
As usual HOPR was on point! We had a friend from Texas with us, she loved her meal and wants to come back! We had a great table as well, 8 of us in a big booth! It was perfect for conversation! Great meal
House of Prime Rib is a San Francisco institution - consistently delicious, impeccable service, good value for the portions, amazing meats and extensive wine list, amazing experience...we try to go a few times per year, always a treat - our 14 year old was so impressed and ate it all.
Great place to go for a special occasion or just to enjoy a great cut of beef but know to ask for booth seating next time. We seemed to be placed in a middle of busy path where the air conditioning kept turning on and off which kept us taking our jackets on and off.
30th wedding anniversary ð. Food was delicious and plentiful! Waitress was so nice and friendly. We had a booth which made the experience special and romantic. Better bring your appetite! Very top notch food and service. Absolutely thee best prime rib!!!!
Delicious meal! Amazing service by Carlos :)
I'm a meat lover and love my steaks and prime rib. I have to say that this is probably the BEST prime Rib I've ever had. Just simple and good! I will be back every time I'm in San Francisco!
Table 51 was in the middle of a busy walk way. Expect lots of staff walking by and guests headed to the restrooms. Food was top notch. They run the place like a well oiled machine. Great service.
Loved the atmosphere, service and great food! You have a choice of prime rib or fish, baked potato or mashed potato, creamed spinach or creamed corn. Easy!
House of Prime Rib is a fantastic restaurant - the lines can be incredibly long (3 hours without a reservation) on busy nights and reservations fill up quick so make sure you reserve months or weeks ahead of time! The food is not cheap but very reasonably priced for what you get and it is delicious. They do one thing and they do it very very well - prime rib.
House of Prime Rib dining was great. The food was great and service was even better. We will be back real soon.
House of Prime Rib doesn't disappoint. Always great food, healthy portions, and a great location. The only issue was our waiter, who seemed a little bit annoyed throughout our stay. Still would recommend this to everyone.
Amazing service and great food. Best to make reservation
Amazing! From service to food quality! Everything is 100% amazing! So full! Be sure to google their secret menu. :)
I love the HOPR. Our table was small for the number of people in our party and it is really loud for large groups to hear everyone. Food and Service were great!
Our server was amazing. Thank you for such a great night to celebrate a dear friends birthday.
I went to the house of prime rib for my 40th birthday and had a great time. They had great service, great drinks and great food couldn't ask for anything more!! I loved it and would definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions but you must make reservations at least 2-3 months ahead for weekends. ðð¼!!
Had a reservation at 8, were seated at 8:25 which is fine but an apology or drink on the house would have been appropriate for that type of establishment.\nFood was good but not great. Meat was good, baked potato dry, Yorkshire pudding flavorless, dessert (cheesecake, Strawberry Shortcake) less than average.\nOur server was very friendly and knowledeable but we felt rushed through dinner. \nWe live around the corner but will not go back.
The House of Prime Rib - the name says it all. I have been eating here for 40+ years, and everything is wonderfully the same. Prime Rib, done to perfection. Perfect creamed spinach (with bacon), the iconic HOPR salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, and of course, the Yorkshire pudding! Vegetarians beware, this is not the place for you. While I am sure it is just fine, don't order the fish. Carnivores rejoice and celebrate, for here you are home!
Crowded and noisy, what you might expect from a popular and notable restaurant, but we found the noise so loud that I had to text my wife in order to have a conversation. The food was also not memorable for the price. The waiter was pleasant enough but when asked why there was a such a big difference in the cut size of our meat when we both ordered the same thing he replied by explaining that my meat was medium well and my wife's was medium therefore the different sizes (what?) My prime rib was double the size of wife's prime rib. What was good was the creamed spinach and the fantasy cake dessert. The potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were just okay. We will NOT be going back to this restaurant because you do not receive the value for the price. And this is all they serve so how could they get it this wrong is beyond me.
The meat is always good here.
This used to be my absolute favorite restaurant until last night. My husband ordered the house cut and I, thankfully ordered the king size ($4.00 more). Everything on his plant was skimpy. My plate was filled. However except for the prime rib itself, nothing tasted like it has in the past. The salad used to b to die for and had a kick to it and this time it was very bland. He had mashed potatoes and they were a small portion and runny. The baked potato I had was spilling bacon bits onto the table and was huge and was their typical potato. I gave him some of my prime rib to help offset his small, thin portion of meat.\nThe biggest disappointment was that they did not even acknowledge the birthday we were celebrating (which was noted when I made the reservation on Open Table) and they did not take a picture of us for this celebration. We have pictures from every time we have celebrated at this restaurant.\nIt took us 2 hours of driving to get to HoPR. It was not worth the trip and I don't think we will be returning. Too bad.
Great service and great food.
Me and the hubby celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. Great place, good food, excellent service!
Best prime rib in the San Francisco Bay Area. Service is good but can be better. Noise level is moderate. So it is good for a group party but not for intimate gathering. Must make reservation ahead of time. Street parking is not easy to find but valet parking is available.
Good not great. Would go to Ruth Chris next time I want a steak
The best of the best. Doesn't matter what day it is, the food, service, ambiance is top shelf. Never disappointed. Can't wait until the next visit!
Birthday of fiancé
While I did enjoy the food ( the meat was perfect & my Irish Coffee was beyond divine) I was EXTREMELY disturbed by the complete & TOTAL lack of concern displayed by servers & bar staff about allergies. 1) The bar snacks are cutely presented in little glasses but they are full of NUTS. I didn't notice the nuts, point-in-fact there were no nuts in my glass, and I was happily snacking on the mix when my husband yelled at me to put it down & he showed me the nuts in his glass. I am allergic to one of the nuts they had in the bar mix & became VERY SICK, almost RUINING my husband's birthday dinner. 2) After we had been seated I over heard another customer asking his server about nuts, only for the server to jokingly tell the man that the kitchen is chock full of every nut imaginable. 3) The salad. Comes to the table with the server, I try to look at the salad & the server tips it away from me so I can't see anything but the metal bowl. I ask him if there are any mushrooms in the salad & he tells me that there are no mushrooms in the building and I know that there is an 'Off Menu' vegetable plate available that features a grilled portobello mushroom. Also, our server never asked us about the dressing on the salad & proceeded to poured an entire gray boat full of dressing onto the salad, which resulted in an over-dressed & soggy salad that was next to inedible.\nThis is a nice restaurant, I'd hate for their lackadaisical attitude towards SERIOUS FOOD ALLERGIES to get it closed down.
I go a few times a year and it's always the same and I like that. Great slab of beef and friendly servers.
I enjoyed my visit to The House of Prime Rib. This was my second visit. Although it was very busy, I felt that the restaurant was very organized. The seating capacity was a bit tight but I was comfortable and the food was great. I can't wait until I can come back again.
This place is more of a tradition than a restaurant. The food is always classic, huge, terrible for you, and delicious! Our server was a delight
We enjoyed this place very much. Great service and the food was wonderful.
Thanks to open table for completely ruining our plans and family outing. I hope a herd of startups destroy you.
Incredible service and prime rib was awesome!
Outstanding food and service! I cannot wait to come back. Our server was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She suggested wines and offered wine tastings to help us choose. She answered my questions about the menu and offered suggestions based on my preferences. She asked how we were a few times and refilled our waters without asking. She was fast, efficient, warm, and funny! We visited on Saturday, Jan. 7th. Our reservations were at 4pm under the name 'Marcos'. Please find out who our server was and let her know she was the best! She truly deserves recognition for her service =) \n\nThe only part that I disliked was the seating. My party was for two people and the booth that we sat in was so tiny! I had to put my purse and jacket on top of another table behind me. The table was small so we had to move/remove some items to make room.
The prime rib was good, but the side dishes were served over cooked and were so hot it took 10 minutes for them to cool down enough to be able to eat them. The service was terrible, and the decor was old and dated. The back room where we were seated, was so noisy it was difficult to carry a simple conversation. Not sure what all the hype is about. It is a poor imitation of Lawry's Prime Rib in Los Angeles rightdown to the spinning salad. If you want a really great experience and amazing prime rib dinner, that's where I would go.
Food never disappoints amazing as always. Service was great.
Food was delicious. Service was great!
I'm a long time, regular customer and I do love the food and when the service is good, it's a fantastic experience. The last time I was there with my wife and some friends from out of town, the host made a sarcastic/rude comment about the woman who had just asked a question before me. I know it wasn't directed toward me but if you say something rude about a customer in front of another customer, who says you aren't making snarky comments about everyone who asks you anything? It boggles my mind why you, as a host, would think this would be okay. You are literally the 'front of the house' and you act the most unprofessionally? The service has always ebbed and flowed here but it's been good recently. The exception to this rule are the maitré d/host staff. They are consistently short, condescending, rude, or some combination. As a resident of San Francisco, this place is an icon of San Francisco to me and I wish they would carry themselves with those same standards.
The food and atmosphere were absolutely incredible. Love the giant meat carving cart...
Simple and elegant. True San Francisco gem. It is not just a dinner, it is an experience.
House of Prime Rib always delivers. From the minute you sit down, the service is so attentive. The staff is very warm and professional and always does it's best to fulfill your every request. I love the salad and am usually full after that, so take most of my meal home. The prime rib plus the bone is always cooked to perfection. This is one of San Francisco's finest restaurants.
FOund a reservation last minute to celebrate our son's 33 b'day. everything was fantastic! the service was great and the prime rib was tender and juicy. ENded up sharing a dessert shared by 4 since we were all full and our doggie bags were full as well
A great restaurant with fabulous prime rib with all the fixings. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a party of about 9 which acted like loud mouth baffoons. Not the restaurant's fault but substantially reduced our enjoyment. On the plus side...when waiting to pay the bill, the fire alarms went off and we were paid a visit by SFO's mighty fine fire department. Rather entertaining for a false alarm.
First time there and would definitely return. It was my husband's 80th birthday dinner and he is a prime rib aficionado. The service and the food were outstanding. Our waitress was amazing and loved her job! It is not a restaurant where you can have an intimate quiet dinner however. Our area was extremely loud but it was fine with us. Will be back!
Amazing food! Never disappointed when I come, unless you count when the wait times are over 2 hours.
The rib was very good as always and the service by Inessa was excellent
Horrible service and way over priced for a buffet in wheels that serves low quality food.
Live locally. Went there just to try it as everyone seems to like it. Awesome. Lot of food for the money. Hey, seconds! Perfectly cooked meat. I'll go back.
Great meal. All we expected. We'll be back in the near future.
My girlfriend went to graduate school right across the street at the Academy of Art, studying Industrial Design. We have gone to the House of Prime Rib to celebrate the end of every semester for six years! We usually sit at the bar, which is great on short notice, but this time we were celebrating her graduation, so we got a table! The staff is always super fun and friendly, and this place totally rocks the old school prime rib dinners! It's been a fun night out every time I have been here, and I will be back.
Food is always excellent with great service. Reservations are a must as they are always busy.
My buddy took me to HOPR for my retirement 3 years ago because we found out previously that we both really love this iconic SF restaurant. So I told him I would reciprocate when he retired, and sure enough this dinner was to celebrate his retirement. We were aware of having to make reservations quite a bit in advance so in October we set it up for January 3rd.\nMeal was fantastic, service was fantastic and both of us can't wait to return in the near future.\nWell worth the drive up and back from Sunnyvale (rain storm and all).
Not a huge prime rib fan but it's pretty good here. Drinks are fantastic and service is impeccable.
The food and service was great! The overall vibe of the restaurant was fun. It was very loud and packed. If you are looking for a quiet corner, not going to happen, but even with that said it was a great experience and can't wait for our next trip to S.F to come here again.
The food is Excellent as usual. But the heat is too warm. Since it's the New Year's Eve, I felt a little bit of Rush by the server. But, that's ok, I can understand that's a long wait afterwards.
Again, this is hands down the best restaurant in the Bay Area for Prime Rib. It doesn't get any better than this. The service, food, ambiance and location is off the charts. There is a prefect size cut for any appetite and then some. The only negative, is that you have to book well in advance...
Food was amazing as always. Love that they don't do a pre-fix menu on nye. But service was kinda lacking this time. And the restaurant wasn't overly busy. We were given the excuse that the mayors party needed extra service. Brown is not the mayor anymore and my food cost the exact same as his.. a bit disappointed in that sense.
I have been going to the HPR for over 18 years now. We are never disappointed !
Hubby and I have been coming here for our anniversary every year for about 40 years. Best prime rib dinner anywhere. Make your reservations early!
Food is excellent as always, but this time why did it take 3 hrs for four people? 5:30 to 8:30! \nI know it was busy but still 3 hrs?\nService was excellent but 3 hrs?
Perfect way to spend New Years Eve!! Excellent food and ambiance!! My family absolutely loved the food and service!! Thank you House Of Prime Rib!
It was New Year's Eve celebration! We dine twice a year at the HOPR. Justin was our server, not sure what was going on with him, but the service left much to be desired! He would forget drinks we ordered, then have a lame excuse to why we did not get them, we brought our own bottle of wine, he did open it to let it breathe, but never offered a decanter, nor did he offer a pour! We waited a good while before he took our order, 'most people that have dined at the HOPR, do not need to study the menu' ........He was not a good choice to be serving for an extremely busy evening! It's not easy serving people, you have to be able to multi task....I will return again to HOPR, but we have also found Harris' down the street to be very good if not better....Get it together HOPR, you used to be top notch....
Good bang for your BUCK!\nGenerous portions, attentive service all @ reasonable price. A SF ICON!!! Takes many months to get a reservation.\nSZH
It was just awesome. Such a vibrant place. Excellent place to celebrate a wedding anniversary.
Excellent. Did not get my favorite waitperson but was good nevertheless.
Food excellent - and drinks - as usual. But it took FOREVER to get them. Waited over 20 minutes to order (not receive - order!!) drinks before being seated - and then had to find a manager to get water and a cocktail for a late arrival as bar would not serve as we had been seated and waiter was not to be found for another round (seriously over 20 Minutes seated at table with no contact from any HOPR personnel) -- it was particularly bad. We go every year before the holidays and always crowded but have never had such a hard time getting drinks at the bar or having a waiter appear.
For the first time, our server was rude. My GF was upset and I tried to calm her down. She wasnt happy to spend so much $$ and have the server be rude.
The overall experience was good. \n\nThe service and prime rib were excellent. I've had a lot of great prime rib in my life, but this was the best. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating.\n\nThe only knocks on our experience was the small table we were sat at, the high noise level and the bustle of workers practically running about.\n\nWhile we dined on a Thursday night, I can only imagine things get even crazier on the weekend.
Our annual holiday visit to House of Prime Rib never disappoints! Always wonderful: food, the wait staff, the ambiance--always the best. We like that they are reliable and consistent, year after year, for this level of service.
I have always been a huge fan of this restaurant for over 20 years . Sadly, the quality of food has gone down. It's really too bad.
Quality is not as good as many years ago. Very rushed. From the time we sat down to finish dinner was within 30 mins. People waiting at the door so you can't really sit longer, faster than fast food.
The best Prime Ribs in SFO! It never fails to delight !! The portions are HUGE!
The food is always great, always tastes the same, and the portions are big. Very good experience if you've never been to an old school steakhouse since you only have to goose what size portion of meat and how it's cooked.\n\nTable side salad making is rad too.
Great time as always. Excellent food and service.
Never disappoints at The Hopper. Great service and the best prime rib. Can't wait to go back but mu arteries can...
Absolutely Packed on Wednesday night 12/28/16 - Even the lounge was being used as a seating area for dinner. We've been coming the HOPR for many years, and can't believe how completely crowded the place now becomes, to the point where it actually seems unsafe.\n\nWaiters are speeding down the hallways, nearly knocking into people, and believe me they do not give way. Anyway, once you actually make it to the table and can take a breath of relief, the rest of the experience gets much better. \n\nWaiter was very good and attentive, and pleasant. And of course the Prime Rib is stellar. \n\nWe'll be back, but maybe not around the holidays anymore.
First time for both of us and will for sure come back
Old-school refined tricks of the trade the waiter department and an ask for Chef saying hi all the signature but my parents stand for it and took us to in transition to join pleasant place got a heart good to be there sorry vegetarians.
We made reservation well in advanced (2 months) and it was worth the wait. From the salad to the prime rib to the desserts, all was wonderful. The service was attentive, but not rushed. I love coming here and would recommend it to my friends and family. Always a good night out.
The place has changed. What once was a magical experience has turned into Medieval Times. They have never been more popular and we waited several months to return for a special birthday. We were first sat next to a large group. Shoved in the corner, it felt like we were interrupting their private party. We requested to be moved and they sat us in a crowded backroom that smelled like a spoiled 5 year-old. The table next to us had a kid bouncing on the seats nest our table when we arrived. At this point, I was ready for something else. When you think that each serving costs over $45, plus we anticipated a bottle or two of wine. It felt like they no longer were interested in my money or me as a customer. So we left and on the way out, the manager stopped us and asked to give them one more chance. They found a decent spot, but by then the experience validated my overall perception. We always loved going to the House of Prime Rib, but their magic is gone and that time has passed. There are so many great places to eat in the City. Do yourself a favor and let this one go. They clearly don't need your money and are no longer worthy of your time.
This place is a San Francisco icon for a reason! While you may wait for a bit for your table, even with a reservation, they make up for it! With the cozy, historic ambiance, impeccable, friendly service and delicious food, it's a completely wonderful experience!
Delicious and tender prime rib. The martinis are generously made!
Everything okay smooth fast dinner ; bus boy start cleaned up even one of us still eating... they grab everything included water , seems forcing rushing us to go . 4 of us finished dinner in less than 1hour 15mins.\nServer is not very attentive had to waive hand keep looking for him.
SF staple. It is our favorite place to eat Prime Rib around holidays. Anytime between Halloween and New Years. Thank you for being here. Your loyal customers for 13 years and growing more.
The prime rib was melt in your mouth perfect. Took my wife and special needs daughter to San Francisco to see Santa and eat the best Beef in S.F. Service was very good even though they were packed out. Can't wait to return next year.. Dan Denis
Great place for a special occasion. Otherwise too pricey. But we were celebrating my son's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our time there and the most excellent prime rib and sides. The prime rib is the best I've ever had.
As always the food was outstanding! The drink service was very scarce and took quite a while to get. We finally got our drinks after 30 minutes of waiting. I certainly understand the Holidays makes the place packed beyond capacity, possibly add a few servers.
Good meal. Prime Rib GREAT. Deserts so-so. Wait Staff GREAT. Much to much noise. One table was out of control but room was NOISY. Overall would go back bujt people shpuld not YELL.
This place is an institution and famous for one thing--prime rib, just as the restaurant name implies. Large, juicy stabs of red meat. There is no chicken, pork, steak, or other dishes except for one fish item each day. The décor is classic/traditional. All dark woods and wood molding. It is also a great deal. The prime rib prices are all all in the $40 to $49 price range and includes salad, prime rib, either creamed spinach or corn as the vegetable, and Yorkshire pudding to soak up all of the au jus from the prime rib. So if you like prime rib, then this is the place for you.
As usual, great prime roast beef and the service was excellent. This is becoming an annual habit and I'm glad every time I come here.
This is an annual Christmas get together with friends. As always, best Prime Rib I've ever had!
Once again, the prime rib was a winner. Here's a good tip, go ala carte. It will help not being half full when the meat comes.
We've been going here for 30+ years and it's always great - the best prime rib\nin town. Service is always first-rate and valet parking makes it even better.
The House of Prime Rib was OK but I was disappointed with the noise level in our section. The meal was satisfactory but I don't plan to return. We drove about 25 miles to reach the restaurant and it wasn't good enough for us to plan a return visit.
Very loud restaurant, but the meat is outstanding.
Food is always great. Server was excellent. Only downside was that tables were too close and diner seated behind me kept bumping his chair into mine.
We ended up missing our reservation due to major traffic and some road closures but they were able to get us seated after only less than 10 minutes which was pretty amazing\nWe continue to come back every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary, nothing has changed since
They stopped bringing the carts to the tables they stay in a central location and bring the plates to your table, not as fun.
Had reservations at 730pm, got there at 715pm. Didn't get a table until almost 9pm. Are you kidding? What's the point of a table reservation if you can't honor the timing. Prime rib was mediocre. I've tasted better. Not worth the wait at all.
1) Roast Beef\n2) More Roast Beef\n3) Even More Roast Beef\n\nCarved at the table, exactly to your liking. All the usual sides. What more needs to be said? But reservations are absolutely required and go very quickly. But this place is an SF institution and for the beef lover a must.
Great service and meal again! Excellent choice
This is always an exceptional meal. We highly recommend it!!
Frequent patrons. Excellent food and service!
A regular HOPR diner - I've noticed that the quality of service and food has gone down over the years. Disappointing considering how expensive it is. For instance, our reservation was at 9:00 pm, and we didn't have food in front of us until 10:45. Yes, 10:45. I know it's the holidays and all that but seriously? I ordered medium rare and got rare, and my dining partner ordered medium and got rare, so our creamed spinach and mash potatoes were literally floating around in blood.
We went to the House of Prime Rib twice that weekend. The first time was very very noisy, loud might be the better word. Luckily we were served by Kara both times. Our second visit was wonderful and Kara was amazing on both visits but the second was nicer for all. We've been coming to the HofPR for over 35 years, we will continue to come back again and again. Please thank Kara for her wonderful service and we'll be back soon.
Hands down, one of the best Prime Rib Restaurant in the Bay Area. Great food, service and ambiance. Only negative is getting reservations, but that's what happens when you serve great food and have great service.
One word 'fanstatic'. I live this place, no one can do prime rib like this and the salad you can't stop eating.
The waiter was not friendly and there was a bug in my sisters salad
Food is always exceptional and Service usually good.
King Henry cut a tad on the thin side now! \nThe beer price is ridiculous!
Got a last minute table for 6 for my sons 21st birthday Ina Tuesday. Place is packed. The drinks are stiff. \nYou start with a salad made table side, everybody loves it. Beets, crisp lettuce and a mysteriously delicious salad dressing. \nPrime Rib, how do you want it? Big slice, HUGE slice, thin slice? Rare, medium rare, etc. you get exactly what you want and it is SO good. Midwest corn fed beef roasted in rock salt is so flavorful, tender and juicy - carnivore heaven. \nWe all opted for the full sides- Yorkshire pudding (perfect for soaking up some delicious au jus). \nMashed potatoes with gravy as it should be OR a fully loaded baked potato. I opted for mashed, my wife got baked and we shared. Both top notch. \nCreamed spinach with bacon, not one of my favorite dishes but this is how I like it best. Creamy, with some bacon bits on top. \nDesserts were good. My son enjoyed his tiramisu, my daughter and I had Mango and Raspberry sorbets. Huge portions, raspberry a little too sweet. \nOur server was friendly, very attentive and funny. \nThe next day my father-in-law called my son and said we have to go back, he had totally forgotten how good House of Prime Rib is. \nMy daughter wold only eat filet mignon for meat in the past. She hates any fat in her meat. She trusted me about prime rib and actually ate more than she ordered. \nIf you want, they will supply you with another thin slice of prime rib if you're still hungry, but you have to eat it there!\nValet parking was only $10, I consider that very fair. \nWe will DEFINITELY be back.
While the food was good and the service exceptional, I do not know that I would have eaten here had I gone to the restroom first. For a nice restaurant, the restroom was awful...dirty, stinky, and not what a 'fine dining establishment' should have. I know it was a busy night, but if the mess is a result of that, hire a matron!
We love it here!
Remember when your grandparents took you to a fine restaurant for the first time? This is that place. Warm, inviting, old fashioned in the best possible way. There's just one thing on the menu, and they serve it with the pomp it deserves. This is not have it your way, this is 'revel in the old way.' Beautiful, uncomplicated, delicious, and actually a good deal - because everything is included.\nParty of 6 with cocktails $350 - reasonable
In a word...AMAZING. By far the very best prime rib I've ever had. Excellent service as well.
HOPR is consistently excellent. The prices are great, lots of food. We got the City Cut. You first enjoy the wonderful breads. Then the great salad, and then the perfect Prime Rib with the best creamed spinach and baked potato. Yorkshire pudding too! The quality of the serve is great too. We ended with a delicious Fantasy Cake. What a great experience!
Had 930 reservations yet sat down until 10 pm....food great as always
Nothing changes except the price keeps going up over years, that and the difficulty to get a reservation in without waiting for months on end. Decent food, except I can swear the meat portions are getting smaller.....\nMy only complaint was that I ordered rare and was provided medium rare, I guess not too many people want rare anymore.
Always a great place to go and food is excellent! Service was also very good.
Enjoyed the dining experience, ambiance, food, excellent service, noise level a little high
As usual , a very great dinner. Needless to say, if you love Prime Rib, this is the place to go.\nA San Francisco landmark.\nThe food and service was excellent, the price for a San Francisco restaurant is reasonable, because it includes a very large salad, and a generous potatoes, with a roll of corn bread.\nBook ahead a far as you can, because it can get very crowded.\nWe can't wait to go back
Came here with three girlfriends for a Christmas dinner on a Wednesday night. Had 7:30pm dinner reservations. Waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. It was very busy. Got a great booth for my friends and I. Service was very professional. We brought our own wine so can't comment on their selection. We all LOVED our food. It was a great night - this place is definitely an SF institution.
This is my second time here - food was just as good as the first time. Everything tastes good - the salad, the bread, the entrees, the sides. While we didn't get dessert we saw some tables that got it and it looked incredible. You really won't be going wrong if you come here.\n\nThe service this time was a bit disappointing though. Our server forgot us multiple times and people who sat 30 minutes after we did got their food when we did. I even told our server that we were celebrating a birthday and he disregarded that. I heard multiple other people celebrating their birthdays so it was a little disappointing. Even getting the check took a bit - our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes after we finished eating. Once we got our check, I thanked our waiter and he walked off without even acknowledging me.\n\nI'll definitely be coming back but it's unfortunate that we had sub-par service when the food is so great.
Reservation at 8pm, not seated until 9pm, and not served until 10:15pm. That's unacceptable.\n\nPrime rib was also over cooked.
Meal was fine, waiter was hit and miss. Drinks came after our salad, and there was a bit of a wait between the salad and the main course (it was a tuesday evening at 8pm, and they were slammed). Since we don't live in San Fran we won't be coming back for some time, but it was a bit meh. I prefer a meal paced to my table, not a meal paced to the place's service availability.
Great hunk of prime rib with all the accompaniments. Skip the mashed potatoes and the corn, the baked potato and spinach are where it's at. Coffee is strong and delicious. Sparkling water is complimentary. It's noisy and our server had a loud conversation with the next table (a former employee of the restaurant) but overall everything was fine. The guys who pack up your leftovers are highly efficient.
Great service, great food.
Always outstanding service and food. Get's kind of loud because of the bigger groups.
I have been to The House of Prime Rib many, many times, and it never fails me. I was a little disappointed in the sides, the potatoes weren't as thick and rich as I have had in the past, and the salad which is always my favorite, was kind of on the dry side.
The best prime rib dinner I've ever had. No one else does prime rib so consistently delicious for so many years.
Best prime rib in town and excellent salad. A little noisy.
Been eating there over a decade now. Quality of the meat never changed, except the cream spinach is a little more watery now, and so is the salad dressing. The Baked Potato could be a little more done as well. \n\nBut most of all, I really missed that nice old grandpa who seemed like the owner of the place. I remember he used to ask us how were doing every time me and my family was there. Especially when I was a kid, I remember the old man will fetch one of the waiter to get me crayons and drawing books so I can kill time. I wonder how is doing. really missed him.
Out of this world prime rib. Service was great. Noise level was very loud but it always is but it is tolerable because the food is so delicious!\nHighly recommend for meat lovers!
House of Prime Rib has been one of my all time favorite restaurants for many years, and their quality has remained impeccable. The prime rib is so tender and juicy, regardless of which cut you order or how well it is cooked, and it has its own delicious flavor that needs no extra sauce on the side. The side dishes complement the meat, the sourdough bread is light and fluffy, and the salad can even make veggie-haters like me want to lick the plate clean. Service here is also great. They are knowledgeable about the extensive wine list, they are attentive about refilling glasses (both water and wine), and they definitely put on a show when actually serving the food. While the meal is a bit expensive, it is so filling and delicious and you absolutely get your money's worth for the whole experience.
Food is novelty, not good, potato was cold, I ordered salmon (Awful) because I don't care for Prime Rib; my friends had it and it wasn't that good, dry, no flavor. Way too noisy, WAY over priced, will not go back!
I can't wait to go back. Genuine food, service, and ambiance. Beautifully decorated for the holidays.
The food is excellent from top to bottom** with a caveat - if you eat prime rib. The only issue is service. Once seated the service was good. However, they were almost 45 minutes late seating us on our reservation. That's unacceptable and from what I can tell this is relatively common so there is a problem that needs to be solved. We were there on a Wednesday night! As is the total lack of space for people to wait during that time - it's crowded, there's nowhere to feel comfortable and more importantly interact comfortably with your companions. It's very crowded all the time. That unpleasant, crowded, uncomfortable 'limbo' time significantly detracts from the overall experience. Now back to the food. The bread and particularly the butter (nice and salty) are fantastic. Loved the show of the spinning salad and enjoyed the salad as well. The sides were all very very good. Creamed corn, creamed spinach, baked potato loaded with bacon sour cream and butter. The Yorkshire pudding - needed salt. It was good, but nothing memorable. The Prime Rib was spectacular. Especially that wonderful jus. And the Fantasy Cake - even though the description didn't sound great, was terrific. This is a place that you must try if you like prime rib. If you don't, don't go. \n\n**The salmon dish, which one of our companions had, was not good. I've tasted better salmon at fast casual lunch places in SF. Bland, over-cooked, tasteless, and seemingly poor quality barely orange farmed salmon as well and served over a corn based rice that had canned corn in it. The idea that they can't make a decent piece of broiled salmon for those who wish to celebrate special occasions with friends and family yet don't eat meat is really quite a shame. They do so much well there, why not finish the job? Just learn and execute one fish dish well HOPR, and you'll make everyone happy.
One of our favorite spots! Always amazing food and outstanding service. This visit was way too crowded for us, like you couldn't move/walk crowded. The restaurant was so loud that we could barely hear each other. We will keep coming back, hoping this was a one time thing.
If you like Prime Rib, it does not get any better than this place.
I love how festive they decorated the place - perfect for a dinner spot with family and friends during the holidays. It's VERY crowded and even if you have reservations, you may need to wait 10-15 minutes. The hosts were not that friendly (seemed more annoyed than anything), but our waiter was great! He made it very special and tried his very best even though it was a busy night. You get a lot of food for the high price that you're paying and it was delicious. I would recommend for anyone who hasn't been to get the prime rib experience, but not a place I would repeatedly visit in the future.
Food very good but the restaurant was noisy with a lot of tourist.
Always a great meal with all the trimmings, a favorite for birthdays for our family
The House of Prime Rib has been on our list of must-try places for many years. This year, we finally made it! And we are so glad we did. The Prime Rib is melt in your mouth delicious and the different size cuts all mean wonderful leftovers! The 'Chef' still slices the Prime Rib table side, always a fun treat. Each cut comes with all the sides including their perfect cream spinach and/or cream corn, potato choice, and a good old-fashioned Yorkshire Pudding to sop up all that au jus.\n\nA rather pricey wine list for the choices...we brought our own wine...stiff $25 corkage but still worth it. Next time we shall just go for the wonderful house martinis - a shaker full for $10! \n\nThe one disappointment was the bread pudding dessert...way to cake like and heavy
This place came highly recommended to us, but we thought it was detestable. The atmosphere was kitschy and way too loud; it was the absolutely opposite of romantic. The prices were extremely high as compared with the quality of the food. Even if you really like prime rib, I would still recommend going elsewhere due to the over-quantity of extras like the creamed corn, soggy spinach, and excessively loaded salad and potato. \n\nLastly, it was almost impossible to get a table at a reasonable hour and, though we arrived on time, we had to wait in the crowded and loud bar for an unreasonable amount of time. ]\n\nAll-in-all, it was an unfortunate experience and we would most certainly not recommend this to anyone who enjoys food and fine dining.
I love coming to the House of Prine Rib. I made my reservations in March for a July birthday dinner for my mother. The servers at HOP are typically friendly, efficient and courteous. I didn't have that experience this time. Our server Daniel, was either high on cocaine or full of too much energy. He was very Loud and obnoxious throughout the whole evening. He knew I was upset and stuck his hand out to be for a handshake and I did not respond back. He shook his head in disappointment. I don't feel I need to shake someone's hand because it makes him feel better! He just wouldn't shilly up throughout the whole dining experience. My dining experience was ruined by this buffoon! Didn't leave him a great tip! It will be several months before I return!
Can't beat this place! Great as always. One tip, do not have too much bread. The warm sourdough is delicious, but the prime rib is much, much better.
Never disappoints, great value, great food, the petite complimentary second cut is the perfect finish to the meal. We always comevhere for our birthdays.
I decided to take my partner there for a nice birthday meal. Unfortunately after alerting them THREE times that it was his birthday and that I would love for him to have a special meal/dessert (I was willing to pay for it, not expecting anything free), the host forgot. I had to walk up there after having already paid for our meal as my partner was putting on his coat. It was not at all discrete and they took a blurry photo of us which we can't even make ourselves out in the photo. It was very disappointing.
This was my 4th visit to HOPR and I left very disappointed.\n\nWe went with another couple for a holiday celebration. Some of the seating had been reconfigured and we wound up at a table right next to the bar with no separation. The noise level was so excessive that conversation was impossible. Add to that the fact that we were constantly being jostled by bar patrons as they walked by and it was a very uncomfortable experience. \n\nGiven that we made reservations in September and were a small party, I would have expected we could have been accommodated in one of the other seating areas. When we asked about another option we were told that was all that was available.\n\nFood was still very good, but the service was rushed. Our dinner was served while we were still eating our salad, no offer of coffee or desert. Just not the experience we had come to expect from HOPR. Will not return again anytime soon.
I enjoyed the ambience once seated -- while waiting for the rest of my party, I sat at the bar and felt rather overcrowded.\n\nThe sides and dessert I had were delicious. Oddly enough, the prime rib was not so great. I think next time I will get a thicker cut, as I suspect the thin English cut was not for me.\n\nThe server was very gracious about my gluten-free dietary needs, and he explained what I could and could not eat there.\n\nBonus for people who cannot have gluten: there is gluten-free chocolate cake!
We have been coming to the House of Prime RIb for 25 years. Every experience has been fantastic. We have introduced family and friends to the House of Prime RIb on numerous occasions and have never hesitated on receiving a negative review. The food is always excellent and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Be aware that you should make reservations for dinner because it is always crowded and deservedly so. San Francisco should be proud of this institution. We can't wait to go back even though the drive for us is over 1.5 hours each way. You won't be disappointed and your belly will be full when you leave.
The English cut, 2pieces of Prime rib, are actually deli like ,almost see through cuts. Yes , you can have one more when finshed these. They were a more realistic English cut , on past visits. It annoyed me, that they were so stingy with the Prime. I told them so, then and there. They looked at me as if they spoke no English and never heard of an English cut. Next time, I will order the 'House' cut. It is so much more true to size and weight. I should have called the manager over. However , he was very kind , when I asked for a quiet room, rather than the large, noisy , busy, family rooms. He did give us a smaller room , in a corner, away from the frantic pace. Salad had been perfect on other visits. There was too little taste, not enough dressing this time.\nWe are from NY and like to come to SF and House of Prime every 3 months. NY Restaurants have superb Prime rib and an English cur, is much bigger , than 2 of your extremely thin slices together! Hope we get it right on the next visit. It seemed to bean off night.
This is a wonderful classic noteworthy restaurant in the heart of San Francisco. Prime rib was sensational and one of the best I've ever had. Service was top notch and noteworthy. Great job by Gabriel.
LOVE LOVE LOVE House of Prime Rib. The environment is fantastic EVERY time! The Prime Rib is always the best. Make sure you come hungry!
Food was enjoyable but service was slow. After finishing my salad, I had close to 30 minutes to spare before the next course came. Also took the waitress 20 minutes to bring the check.
We've been going to HPR a lot. The food is always fantastic and the service is impeccable. This time we were there with our friends and as usual we were having a great time - great friends, great food, great wine and great service. Luckily it was after we eat our entree and waiting for our dessert when my friend found a DEAD RAT caught in a trap under the table near her foot. \n\nThe Manager (?) was graceful and apologized and our server made some joke to lighten the situation. We tired not to make a big deal however the situation was not funny and no amount of apology would have made the fact that we saw a DEAD RAT under the table. \n\nAfter all of that, they were nice enough to not charge us for the cocktails and dessert! REALLY! The whole bill should have been taken care of!!!
OK, 1st things first...YOU HAVE TO MAKE A RESERVATION ABOUT 2 MONTHS IN ADVANCE.....\n1st visit here-about 170 miles R/T, 2 hrs from home. A 'bucket list' destination.\nIt's a little cramped for space, but has 'vintage charm', think rat-pack movies. Since it's S.F., valet parking is available. \nNow for the food.....meat eaters rejoice, cow is king here! There are different portion sizes to choose from. The King Henry VIII cut is impressive with the bone attached, I talked hubby into getting that for the photo op. \nBread & butter come out first, it's a really good sourdough (caution: DO NOT eat with abandon or you will have less room for your entree). Your server brings out the salad 'makings' & assembles the salad table side, spinning the bowl with flair while adding the dressing, it's entertaining. Then one of the chefs wheels out one of the stainless steel cart resembling a giant armadillo /zepplin which they've used forever. Rolls it open to reveal several upright illuminated prime ribs to carve from, meat heaven. The prime rib was the best we've ever had & we've been to many steak places. You get a choice of mashed or baked taters, choice of creamed spinach or creamed corn & traditional Yorkshire Pudding (it's kind of like an extra fluffy creme puff shell) used to mop up the beef juices. There is a fish option & if you're con-flesh, I believe you can request a grilled vegetable dish. If you have room after your meal, SHARE the Creme Brulee with some coffee, a great ending to a wonderfully memorable meal.
We picked a weeknight for a birthday celebration and thought if we called for a table 2 weeks ahead of time it would be no problem. WRONG! The only seatings available were 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. (party of 4). We checked back a couple of days in advance and were able to get a 9:00 p.m. seating. Loved the food and service. Our only complaint - too noisy. \n\nAt first we were placed at a table in the middle of a room, but when we complained about the noise level, we were told we could be seated in a booth if we didn't mind waiting another 10 minutes. So, we waited (less than 10 minutes). But, the booth was next to a party of 8 - 10 very loud young men (possibly a bachelor party). We could not talk across the table and be heard (yes, we are older and have some hearing problems). Regardless, this restaurant is overly loud. We recommend that the owners spend some money on soundproofing to make the meal more enjoyable.
Always consistently excellent! We have been coming to HPR for 40 years and it never disappoints. Make reservations early!
It's a classical San Francisco institution, and it's easy to see why. Time has stood still (in a good way) within these walls. The prime rib is succulent and juicy, the sides are delicious, and even the table-side dressed salad is a spectacle.
Food is amazing service was great great place to go good environment
I hate prime rib but love this place. It's that good
I have dined her since my childhood, & I brought my best friend here to celebrate her birthday we were sat in the corner and forgot about the meat was on the dryer side. & the server was extremely rude, it was a bother to ask him for anything. Took over 30 minutes to get our drinks & even more to get the salad. Our whole dinner lasted 3 hours. Very disappointed.
The place is very noisy and the food is good! We arrived at the restaurent at 710pm, and my reservation was at 730pm. So I checked in with the host and he said he will seat when its closer to 730pm. We decided to wait nearby the door, and the host finally calls us at 745pm. The host was not nice and racist! At first we were seated at the worst table in the restaurant by him, it was a half circle shape table! We requested for a table change a few times with the host, but instead we were told to wait another 30min for another table. We kept asking, till the manager finally changed us! Definitely need think twice or thrice about coming back here! I mean c'mon, I booked to place 2 weeks in advance and travelled all the way from Indonesia! Please! I would rather go eat at Lawry's in Singapore, and treated like a king!
Always good food. Shannon was wonderful. Thanks. non enough characterss
Made reservations 4 mos. in advance and still had to wait 45 minutes for a table for 4 people. The Hostess was rude, very un-professional when I informed her we've been waiting for more than 20 mins. She stated, 'we have a lot of reservations for 6:30PM, they been waiting longer than you'. Then why are we making dinner reservations for a particular time when there's no table available until, after 30 to 45 minutes.
The room we were in was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Waiter was very rushed.
The only issue we had was that we were placed in a booth that was only made for four people, but we were a group of 6. It was very uncomfortable. The food and service was the only saving grace.
Our dinner was amazing! You really get what you pay for and it's all so delicious! They even have a kid's portion, which is great for the little ones. The service is always excellent as well, despite the fact that they are ALWAYS packed! You need to get a reservation in advance. My favorite though was the dessert - house made tiramisu.
It's always fun to come here. Of course, everyone's excited because we've all been waiting over two months to eat here (plan to make a reservation). The prime rib is amazing and the mashed potatoes are the best. The creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding are always a treat. If you like prime rib, you will not be disappointed.
Server was very good. Food quality a grade below of what it used to be (have being dinning here for over 30yrs). Salad was wilted, not enough dressing, the Henry VIII cuts( we ordered 4 total), were so,so. Seconds were paper thin. The creamed spinach was the best part of the meal.\n\nCocktails were not better.... Bartender extremely rude and condescending. Drinks were very poorly done, watered down (midori sour, pina colada, strawberry daiquiri). Martinis were decent, but a far cry from before.\n\nDefinitely missed, the quality of meat, excellence to attention and professional bartenders.
I went here for celebrating my friend's birthday. The food was great and I really enjoyed the meal at here.
Prime Rib was excellent. Portions are huge. We took home a lot of leftovers.
The prime rib was delicious! A hearty portion of meat. The salad was very flavorful (my girlfriend loved it!).
Love how simple but DELICIOUS the menu is. Everything is so good- including the fresh, warm sourdough bread! Yumm. Service is always exceptional and I LOVE the cocktails (you get an extra sidecar). This was a great spot to bring some out of town family. We all had such a great time!
Crowded, waiter didn't like his 18 percent tip and caused an uncomfortable situation at the table. He wanted 20 percent and had no problem with letting us know he was not happy. He got our order wrong and never corrected it. He had a verbal argument with another employee at the restaurant and we had to listen to it. The food is good but I wouldn't go back to this restaurant.
The ambience and service made for an excellent dinner experience.
Been going here for 10 years and we love the place!!
Great prime rib, but not a place for 1st date because of noise level.
Beautiful, elegant, cozy restaurant. The prime rib and side dishes were perfectly prepared and delicious. Our waiter was awesome. Answered all questions, very friendly and attended to our requests. Would recommend The House of Prime Rib for any occasion. We'll definitely return.
Prime rib was not as tasty as usual. Service was slow. Never got the corn bread we requested.\nCream spinach has way too much pepper.
I've been going to the House of Prime Rib since I was a kid with my parents and now I am 67 years old and still enjoy the Prime Rib. The last few years, it seems that the noise level is very high; sometimes it's hard to hear the person across from me. Thank goodness the Prime Rib is always outstanding - it helps to tolerate the noise level. Our server, Gabe, was very pleasant and professional; he gave us an enjoyable evening.
I've been here countless times and have always loved it. This time, however, it seemed as though our server was having a bad day. He wasn't friendly and cheery as most servers there usually are. If it had been my first time here, I would say they need to step their service game up. But since I've been there plenty of times, I'll chalk it up to someone having a bad day. We all have them.\nOtherwise, the prime rib, the salad and sides were delicious as always.
Our family dined at The House of Prime Rib for a birthday dinner and it was fantastic. Excellent, melt in your mouth medium rare prime rib. Great service. Filling meal (including 'the dessert slice')! Highly recommend for those that love prime rib and a classic dinner. Good drinks to accompany. Also not to miss - the Yorkshire pudding and hot horseradish.
They want to turn around the tables in 1 hr so everything was very rushed. The corn and spinach recipe is changed and it doesn't taste good anymore.
Best prime rib anywhere. Service by Joshua was outstanding and the bartenders make a superb martini.
Service was sub standard. Waiter needs better training with smaller parties.
Waiter was amazing. Food was kind of hyped for a long time. Valet parking. King Henry cut was a huge piece of meat. Mashed potatoes were delicious. Creamed spinach over creamed corn. Conundrum wine! Warm Apple Crisp. Go!
House of Prime Rib NEVER disappoints. It is my absolute favorite meal.
A great special occasion meal that leaves you stuffed to the gills and extremely satisfied. The food was awesome as always, but there was an obnoxious table nearby that took away from the experience a little bit.
I can't believe it took me years to get to try this place. I'm from the Boston area and I wish we had something similar here. I only get to the Bay Area every couple of years or so. This is definitely a must when in San Francisco!!!!
Great restaurant great prime rib is delicious
Been wanting to go here for years and they met every expectation that I had. Food, ambiance, service, all was great!
Rude host staff. No warmth or hospitality ingrained.
The best restaurant around if you LOVE prime rib. That is what they do and they do it so very well! Every aspect was fantastic. We brought friends who had never been there and the fell in love with it too!
I come here semi-regularly. They really should make the cuts more equal as the cuts at our table were all varying sizes big and small even though all ordered the King Henry cut. It was the same way last time I ate here. The folks with the smaller KH cut were wondering why they got the short end of the stick. Otherwise the meat was good.
The name says prime rib. The menu, for the most part, has only prime rib, so you better make a good prime rib....HoPR nails it! \n\nFrom the creative cart service to the incredible cook on the meat itself , the whole package is just old-school goodness. In a sea of 'new this and new that', it's a pleasure to bask in HoPR's solid execution of an indulgent experience. As a native of the Bay Area, I am only sad that I missed the last 40 years of coming here because I didn't try it earlier.\n\nWhile the whole staff was welcoming and helpful, I just wanted to say that Danny went out of his way to make it a special night for our family. Thank you.
Has always been a place for enjoyable family get togethers and is still very, very good.
The food was awesome as usual. The only thing that made our experience a little bit less enjoyable was how crowded and busy it was. It seemed more crowded than usual. A group was pushed so close to us that when we needed to get up y o use the restroom the person next to us had to get out of their seat just so we could get by. I felt like they crammed to many people in the room we were in.\nBut the food was worth it.
Always an exceptional experience. Timeless and amazing.
This was my family's first visit, but certainly not our last. The ambiance was perfect, the service was top notch and the meal.was spectacular. Keep up the good work.
The food is always exceptional and we've been to the HOPR many times through the years. My husband and I were celebrating our Anniversary and noted that on our reservation. The person who confirmed my reservation said he was excited to have us celebrate our Anniversary. However, when we got there, there was no celebration. When we ordered our desserts, I had to ask the waiter to take our picture for our Anniversary and he said he didn't know. Yet, he didn't forget all the people around us celebrating their birthdays. We were quite disappointed!!!
Excellent as always. Meat melts in your mouth. My only complaint is that you have to plan at least 2 months in advance if you want to go on a weekend.
This is my 2nd time at house of prime rib, and the place does not disappoint a bit. Love their prime rib, service, and everything in between. Will keep coming back.
San Francisco icon with excellent service but marred by young, inexperienced, and unenthusiastic hostess personnel and valet attendants who should greet guests arriving in taxi's or Uber's with a warm 'welcome' and the opening of the door. \n\nI'm surprised this culinary gem forgot the maxim regarding first impressions.
House of Prime Rib, has great food and great service. This restaurant is a great find and I will be going back soon.
A big shout out to our server, Shar. He was extremely accommodating and made my husbands birthday even that much more special, especially since this was our first time here!
Came here for a birthday. It is always loud and crazy busy. Quite impressed at the volume of drinks two bartenders pushed out! Our table was in an awkward spot for 8 people with reservations, but I was just grateful to get in on a Friday night with short notice. I always love the valet service. The prime rib never disappoints. Love the salad. Plenty of food and worth the splurge. A SF must! My son's meal from the kids menu is as an awesome value! Thumbs up from the 9 year old!
Best prime rib in the bay area. Great price and service always. Reservations are a must!
Delicious. I come here at least twice a year. Each time I love the experience. Make sure to make a reservation or be prepared to wait a while. Totally worth it
Phenomenal as usual. Can't get a better quality meal in San Francisco. This place is an institution and for very good reason. Love the surroundings, savored the food. Treat yourself.
One of the best prime rib house in the city no doubt but it's getting a little crazy how crowed it get even on a weekday. I arrived about 30 minutes prior to my reservation time and we were seated within 10 minutes. The service was good but they do need pay a little more attention training their staff. I understand this place get crazy really busy but lets try to stay classy. This restaurant has a special place to my heart and I hope they improve soon.
Going to the HOPR is and experience. It is a beautiful restaurant that has a timeless feel, the service is wonderful, and the prime rib is amazing. Memorable meal.
I celebrated my birthday at House of Prime Rib. Personally, I'm a steak lover. Trying House of Prime Rib was a bit of an experiment on my part, to find out whether I'd like it more than steak. Unfortunately, I love the charred grill of steaks than the texture I got from Prime Rib. Not to worry, though. I'd still go to House of Prime Rib. Our server was so nice. Sadly, I didn't hear his name because it was too loud in the restaurant (which was a mood dampener really). He's the African-American server who needed a great-service-badge. Thanks for a memorable evening.
This was our second visit and I would still highly recommend this restaurant. I'm not a prime rib fan, but it is very good here.....the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were amazing......and we got dessert this time! Strawberry shortcake and Creme Brulee are highly recommended!
Arrived early for drinks at the bar. FYI: they no longer carry ginger beer, their pelligrino wasn't chilled enough to serve, and a bottle of corona was $7.79. Dinner was delicious, service met expectations, noise level was loud for a weeknight. Despite striking out at the bar, I highly recommend the prime rib and salad. We will be back again.
I would recommend coming early and grabbing and sit by the fire. Then once you're all warmed up, get ready to enjoy a very nice prime rib. The salad is so good and one of my favorites and the Yorkshire pudding compliments the prime rib so well. I have the sautéed spinach and garlic which was nice.
The Prime Rib is one of the best tasting! Server was awesome!
My chair was bumped by passing servers only five or six times. \nOnly had to ask to have the empty glasses cleared a couple times.\nOnly had to wait ten minutes to order a second glass of wine .\n\nReally good prime rib dinner.
First off, make your reservations well in advance. Our dinner reservation at 5:00pm was called exactly on time. Bar opens at 4:30pm: we had excellent martinis. Our food, service, and total experience was outstanding. We took other reviewers advice and all had prime rib. I can not imagine ordering anything else here. Superb! House of Prime Rib will be at the top of our list for any special occasion. We celebrated my 73rd Birthday. The best birthday party I have ever had in 73 years. Thank you, House of Prime Rib.
I did not have a very good experience.\n\nLet me start from the beginning. I had made my reservation on February 18 for July 25, knowing weekends are busy, and had specified it was going to be our anniversary dinner and wanted a booth table in the main dining room. \n\nWe arrived for our reservation 15 minutes early, checked in, was told our table would be ready soon. Okay, no problem there. We waited 15 minutes before our reservation time and then another 15 minutes after that. What's the point of a reservation? \n\nWhen we were to be seated, we were led to the back dining room and into the corner booth table. Now this wasn't a booth that I had requested or had in mind where we would be seated facing each other... It was a bench booth along the wall, next to another wall, the table set for 3 people, and was expected that we sit next to each other side by side. A chair was left on the opposite side of the table and my boyfriend had to sit there instead so we'd at least be facing each other. Now we are super close to the next table. \n\nI'm frustrated at this point because it felt like because we asked a second time after we checked in as to when our table would be ready, the host and those seating the customers decided to just place us wherever so we would be out of their way. I wanted to make a fuss but my boyfriend wanted us to enjoy our dinner so I refrained.\n\nOur server was great and the food was good but everything else was not up to par. And not to mention the noise level. It was almost to the point of being unbearable and speaking to someone who is right in front of you was difficult.\n\nHouse of Prime Rib used to be great. Food, ambiance, staff... Now it feels like a glorified chain steak house. I was tempted to not tip AT ALL. Not how I expected to spend my money and time for our anniversary dinner.
Food was very good, however felt like we you're rushed in and out. Never asked if we would like dessert or coffee. After dinner plates were taken the check was thrown on the table. Wham bam thank you don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Great, attentive service from all staff. We arrived earlier than our reservation time but were seated right away. The one negative is that the bar crowd spilled over into the hallways between the dining rooms, making it very noisy and difficult to navigate your way to the restrooms.
my 'must-visit' every time i go to san francisco. best prime rib i have found so far, certainly much better than Lawry's.
House of Prime Rib is always a go-to for special occasions or entertaining out of town guests. I describe it as a preserved 60's eatery with classic martinis and amazing prime rib. This visit didn't fail to deliver on that experience, and my friends from out of town really enjoyed themselves.
Lovely, very equiste; Food was excellent.. Service, waitress & host were great
Everything was good, but the server was not very friendly , kinda grumpy, asked for a few things to be served differently like the salad, he was put off to do it, then requested that we were splitting a dinner, and then stated well there's a service charge, we said ok, although that's kind of tight for a nice restaurant , we got drinks and stuff, hopefully next time we get a server that enjoys there job.
It's a bit touristy so expect a large crowd. But the wait staff is attentive and the food is delicious. I recommend the English cut prime rib, which is thinner slices of beef. Trust me, you'll still be full and it's easier to cut and chew than the regular cut. Make a reservation! Otherwise your wait time will be 1hr+.
House of Prime Rib is one of our favorite traditional San Francisco restaurant. Their menu is very straight forward with their signature prime rib as the name says. It comes with salad, creamed spinach, choice of potato, sour dough bread and Yorkshire pudding. The food arrived promptly and came in good portions. Our experienced waiter was very good. He appeared to be a long time employee of the restaurant and knew how to accommodate his diners. Service was very attentive and efficient. It was a full house and you can imagined the noisy dining room. Everyone in our large party had a good time. All of our male diners requested for a second slice of prime rib and the rest of us took doggie bags home.
Great meal experience. Always fantastic prime rib.
Had family in from Louisiana and Texas and this was on their list to eat at. Our waiter Shar gave us great service along with salad assistant- didn't get him name but we called him Tex/Mex since that's where his parents are from and also Tony our chef for the night. Thanks guys!
This place has lost its appeal to me over the last few decades. It used to be a special occasions place for sure, but now it feels like all they wanted to do is you shuffle you out the door from the time you sat down. I understand that it's popular, but was there any reason for the only dining choices for 5 to be at 5pm or 9:45pm on a Friday night four weeks out?\n\nMeat's still good, but far from being the way it was when you could cut it with the back of a spoon. Service is rushed. Sad to learn that Gus is no longer part of the scene.
Having dinner at House of Prime Rib during the holiday season is always fun. The atmosphere can be a bit hectic but fun. The food and service at House of Prime Rib are always top notch.
I want to start off by saying that this place is a favorite of mine but in two years prices have risen dramatically. My Henry VIII cut was $38.95 in 2013 and $44.95 in 2015. Corkage was $20 in 2013 and $25 in 2015. Anyhow two dinners plus a corkage was about $98 in 2013 and is now $115. Now I'm not saying it isn't worth the money but this does represent a two year increase of 17%. My question is why is this happening when our government says that inflation is only 2%?\n\nOur server was very good and stayed on top of things impressively. I will definitely go back.
This was my third visit and best experience so far. Each of our cuts were cooked perfectly and our server was super generous with the sides even though a couple people ordered a la carte and should have gotten less sides. He was also super accomodating by requesting bone cuts for all of us. The wait between appetitzers and the main course was a little longer than usual but great experience nonetheless.
The meat lacked flavor. It was very loud, could not even hear my husband talking across the table. Our server was just interested in getting us out as quickly as possible. Disappointed.
Way over booked. Horribly loud. Waitress forgot drink order twice. Hit in back wit hot meat cart. Can't rest on your laurels and still expect people to come.
Wife and I went here for dinner. Had reservations at 9pm. Restaurant and bar were very crowded and didn't get seated until about 9:15. The martini was very good. Dinner was good. service was timely and professional. I would come back.
This place is just a classic. Don't change a thing. I recommend getting the al la carte option if you're not super hungry. The salad and yorkshire pudding are great, but the stars are of course the prime rib, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. That with a bottle of wine, maybe a few manhattans when you first get there, and you will leave an EXTREMELY happy camper.
I love this restaurant. I have been coming here 20+ years and I have NEVER had a bad meal. I come from LA to eat here. A trip to SF would not be complete without a trip here
The experience overall is not enjoyable. It is too loud, too crowded, and too expensive.
Make a reservation in advance. Ours was for. 9:00. Short wait to be seated, then a short wait for our waitress who acknowledged us.\nThey were out of the wine we wanted but enjoyed the recommended substitute.\nThen the performance began with the salad., followed by the carving and delivery of a most incredible cut of beef, followed by potatoes the size of Idaho. \nWhile we enjoyed what we could after eating all of the salad, there was plenty left for another meal on another day. The beef was perfection, as was the creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding.\nBut wait! There's more. We could not order dessert, but since it was a b-day we were treated to ice cream AND song!\nOver the too and precisely as expected.\nDid I mention the photo to commemorate the special occasion?\nNot disappointed\nI look forward to returning for another special event.
Have been dining here for thirty years. Best prime rib in the city. They never get it wrong. And you can get seconds!
I took my family here for the first time and they all walked out super satisfied. Even my picky Grandmother spoke highly of the place once we got home. We celebrated my Fathers Birthday here for dinner and he was so grateful for the expreience. The staff was very attentive and made the meal speacial.
Always a treat to go to house of prime rib
The service was great! Everyone from the entrance, to the bar, and our waiter were awesome! Very full of energy and nice. The food was fantastic! Very different salad which is very mouth watering and the prime rib was soo juicy and good. Kind if loud place but hey we didn't mind it. Will def be back
Hopr us always great. Found, service, overall feel always ranks top. Only negative is back, side rooms can be very noisy.
Everyone has to go here at least once. It's an old school SF institution and the prime rib never fails. Pie server, Aaron, was great and made sure we had a wonderful dining experience.
I love this place! It feels like granny's house for a Sunday roast. The prime rib is the BEST ever. I like the limited choices on the menu because it makes picking very easy. If you want anything other than Prime rib DO not go here. Its all about the beef! I will be back every year!
Took my dad here for his 82nd Birthday. The prime rib w/ au jus is superb. Each cut comes with generous & tasty sides. A well spent $46pp. The energy at 5pm is so loud & crowded but adds to the ambiance. Our waitress was perfect! Will easily come back!
The best prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, baked potato, and creamed spinach you will ever experience. They have been doing this for decades and have the routine down pat. Fixed price includes everything, a great bargain. Friendly and experienced service.
Had a wonderful experience. Met all our expectations. Everything from our server to the food was spot on. Tables are a little small but knew that going into it. So nice to know that the place hasn't changed in 30 years. Would definitely make a reservation.
The party right next to us was extremely loud so it was difficult to have a conversation between ourselves. The room we were in was very crowded so going in and out just to get to our table was a challenge.
always fantastic. It is very noisy, particularly in the back room. otherwise great evening!
Food and service was excellent. Rated the ambiance as 'good' only because of the couple seated next to us were arguing during dinner :(
Truly an excellent experience! Same type of professional service you see at great places like Peter Luger. Can't wait to go again!
Amazing Prime Rib! We were celebrating our Anniversary and we enjoyed everything about this restaurant. I highly recommend reservations and their drinks are very strong but tasty. The waiter was amazing, he kept us updated on the next courses and there was so much food! We will for sure be back!
The Best in the West as far as Prime Rib, there is no other place that even comes close, have been going to the HoPR since i was a little guy and now that I'm fifty something, still the Best around...
The early seatings are always the best, with no waiting and freshest food.
Best value in the city.
PERFECT PRIME RIB! As meat lovers we've enjoyed dry aged beef the best restaurants, when it comes to prime rib House of Prime Rib has no competition. They keep it simple, the size cut & sit back and enjoy. The sides, creamed spinach or cream corn & mashed or baked potatoes are excellent as is the house dressed dinner salad. We thought that old fashion dinner house were just a memory but, House of Prime Rib proved us wrong, the decor & the service are as wonderful as the food. To top it all off the price is unbelievably reasonable!
From the wonderful bread through the progression of the meal.....something that everyone should experience. For me....worth the 2 hour drive at least 4 times a year. Just Great!!!!!
We have been going to the House of Prime Rib for birthday and special occasions since 1957. It was a 60th birthday celebration. Our server, Shareef, was exceptionally professional and had a great sense of humor. The prime rib seemed to be the sweetest and most tender we have had in a long time. It was a wonderful evening, although our server forgot to bring ice cream with a candle when we ordered no desert but possibly that is no longer the policy. We also were not offered a group photography but we took one of our own.\nIt is astonishing that the valet parking was ELEVEN dollars but that's probably in prep for Super Bowl attendees!
Very loud in the dinner area we were in. Manager came by an apologize by did nothing to try to quiet the large tables.
The staff was very accomodating to our needs, and the food was superb!
Just awesome. Excellent prime rib of course with awesome service.
Consistent time after time.\n\nFor: Good with a group of friends and special occasions.\n\nRecommend: King Henry cut for the bone, the house wine (forgot what it was) pairs well (smooth bright notes then falls off). This time I tried pairing with Chianti (don't do it).\n\nService: Like usual they assume everyone's been to HOPR, so just go with the flow.\n\nIn My Opinion: You can go around the United States and try prime rib from different restaurants (or make your own if you know a good ranch). But honestly HOPR is one of the best bang for your buck prime rib houses anywhere, and their meat source comes from colder areas where the cow's fat becomes denser.
This place sucks!! Big time!!\nDo not eat here!!\nEver!!
Amazing food, wonderful ambiance, iconic experience - definitely recommended!
The restaurant has definitely changed quite a lot - Just sat down for drinks in bar (1-2 minutes) when we were already being prompted to dinner. After telling them we will be a little bit in the bar they came back and were very assertive that we take our table. Bear in mind the restaurant wasn't even 3/4 full, which I saw as very odd at 6:30 pm at The House of Prime Rib. In fact, the bar area wasn't even 1/3 full. Upon being seated the bread was dropped off within 30 seconds, then the waiter was ready to take our order within another 1-2 minutes. For long term patrons like me, I felt the restaurant had changed significantly; when I dine cheap I don't care if I'm being pushed through a restaurant - but The House of Prime Rib? The feeling was mechanical and all about efficiency. Food is still great, but the dining experience overall has diminished. Never thought I would feel like just another number/customer at The House.
Best Prime Rib anywhere!! great salad and sides too. Friday night is office night and it was incredibly noisy. hard for older ears to hear!! still, wonderful beef!!
We brought a magnum and was charged $50 for corkage. Outrageous. The also used to give seconds. Felt rushed and too loud for a big group.
Always a highlight
One of the best places for celebrations. My guest's birthday celebration was a success. The prime rib was excellent and all the accompaniments were standard but also quite good.
This place never disappoints every meal is always just as amazing as the last
Totally fantastic - as usual. Prime Rib cannot be better anywhere. They can totally eliminate the cornbread as I've never seen anyone really glad to see it - not as glad as having the hot crusty French bread, cold crisp tasty salad and truly perfectly cooked prime rib, potatoes and spinach. Keep the cost and calories down and eliminate the corn bread!!
The prime ribs are still great; but the portions are getting smaller, including the meat, mash, and cream spinach. Also, the service is efficient like a formula.
I listen to KGO Radio all the time and I heard from radio personality RONN OWENS, that this is the BEST Prime Rib in the Bay Area. So we decided to drive two hours to the restaurant from Salinas Ca. We had a 9:30 pm reservation on 11/08/16 for three people. As soon as we arrived and saw the front of the restaurant we new this was a special restaurant. We were greeted by the host and promptly escorted to our table by our food server, Julia. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and well staffed.Julia was extremely polite and we informed her it was our first time here to the restaurant at that point she answered all of our questions about the menu. The prime rib was, 'Outstanding ', my friend expressed to me and it was the 'Best Prime Rib ' he has ever eaten ever... I and an additional friend totally agreed....The Best..... We plan to return to this restaurant.
Always the best place for prime rib in San Francisco!
Always a favorite stop for a consistently awesome meal! I make it a point to get my fix when I am in town!
We had a great time. Our waiter, Aaron, was AWESOME. We went for a 60th birthday and everything was wonderful.
Our favorite restaurant ever! We have enjoyed our dinners here for over 50 years.
Long-time established delicious restraint that always gets it right!
A San Francisco institution! It never falters. We always have a great time and a wonderful meal.
Staple of the SF restaurant scene. Often mistaken for a tourist trap, House of Prime Rib delivers well above its price point. The salad is forgettable so do what the regulars do and order your prime rib a la carte. Also, if you take your cocktails 'up' (e.g. martini, manhattan) then you'll be rewarded with 2.5 drinks for the price of 1 as they give you the cocktail and the shaker which has plenty of drink leftover.
HoPR is a loud, busy place but it's worth it. The best prime rib I have ever had. Excellent drinks, equally great mashed potatoes with real beef gravy. Amazingly good salad, even with beets which I hate LOL! All of the staff are professionals who manage to stay calm in the crazy environment & are friendly to boot. Highly recommended, but bring a big appetite! Even the small portions are huge.
I would recommend to search at least a month in advance for reservations. The food was great and service was great!
Our reservation was at 8:30 and we did not get seated till 9:15. Our server was responsible for 4 tables. We did not leave the restaurant till 11:30pm. The room we were in was extremely loud. We were not able to hear each other when we were talking. I go to HOPR a few times a year and this was the longest time Iâve spent there. I am not sure if itâs due to new servers or what changes happened but I hope they speed up. The food is still excellent.
We weren't even finished with our salads when food began to arrive, 20 minutes after we were seated. One was fish so when that re-arrived it was cold. Never again! I left a 20% tip on a $350 bill, but never again if we are rushed. I am no tourist; I live here.
The prime rib was excellent. A little bit larger portion of mashed potatoes would be appreciated. Also the creamed spinach was too spicy...a more traditional spicing would be an improvement. Our waiter, Shar, was excellent. The best and most professional service I have had in a long time.
Old fashioned place with great prime rib! Super crowed. Reservations mandatory!
This restaurant is always crowded. They put us in a half circle table/booth for four adults, too tight for our party.
I always have a wonderful experience at The House. Food was amazing as always for a reasonable price. And they have by far the best prime rib but more importantly a baked potato with toppings to die for. They might also have the worlds best salad to start and you can even buy the dressing seasoning salt. This place is a family favorite and we go at least twice a year!!! Love the HoPR!!
The waiter we had was rushing us to eat. It seem like he was trying to get us out of the restaurant in thirty minutes or less. He got our order wrong and service us cold capucchinos. We were his first customers when the restaurants opened.
the most excellent prime rib I've ever had. The horseradish was a little different but overall one of the best meals I've had.
Most excellent prime rib in San Francisco if you love beef that is tender & melt in your mouth! It's been a few years since my husband and I been to House of Prime Rib. We've never had a bad meal at there. The service too is great from the host, the waiters & the bus boys. They are all outstanding and very accommodating. When a restaurant such as HOPR is difficult at times to get reservations and always has a full house of diners, then you know it is going to be a 5-star rated restaurant.
Good food, prime rib cut at your table. Awesome experience!
What a wonderful dinner. The food is delicious.
Food and service excellent as usual. Enjoyed the ambience, energy of diners and waiter who was same as last visit.
I am not sure if this is a place i will go back to any more. It is just too loud and very expensive. I don't feel play 50 bucks a head is worth it when i have to SHOUT to hear someone across the table. \n\nSad, I have a lot of good memories here but the clientele has changed too much.
I love this place! So much tradition and energy. The Prime Rib is the best you will ever get and the dining experience is so fun.
First time there. Food was great. We will be back.
We are from Boston and would never go to San Francisco without having dinner at The House. \nTotally awesome.
Went for early dinner on Halloween night. Asked for a booth, we had a fantastic full booth for 2 people.....sweet!! Was served by a great team, hope I get servers name right....Alinca?? )from St. Peters-burg, Russia. Our cuts were perfect!! Our FAV all time place for a special evening. Going back in Jan for a birthday.....can not wait,
Can't beat it. The prime rib absolutely melts in your mouth.
Had a great time with my wife. Our waiter named Trevor did an outstanding job on making sure that we had an excellent service and food. \n\nGreatly recommend it especially to all carnivores of the world!
Good food. Good time. Good service. The waiter went out of his way to make sure our experience was special, and the chef did not disappoint. Will return soon.
This is the place we celebrate our anniversary, and birthdays year after year
I have been coming here for almost 40 years, and it is AMAZING each & every time. It is a MUST DO every time I come to the SF area. The food is incredible as is the whole experience. The service is always top-notch. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Great as usual, for birthdays or hang around with friends
We went for my 32nd birthday and all who joined agreed it was one of the best meals we ever had. Josh, our server, was amazing. The menu, simple and perfect. The salad was to die for... we keep talking about it, even several days later. We are hoping to come back again soon. So worth it!
I love this place, but the service on this last visit was slower than usual. Our waitress talked to the table next to us for a long time, finally got to us and we ordered and it just wasn't the usual visit. She was quick to take order then got the soda wrong, forgot the beer, didn't get our Yorkshire pudding until half way through our meal. Just wasn't up to 5 star like I e had it before. Will be a while before I go back.
This restaurant of course is very popular, so my partner and I had to try it. The service was great and very personal. The food was so-so. If you like large quantities of food, this is your place. If you like sophisticated or gastronomically interesting food, look elsewhere. Also, although we were a couple without children, we were seated in a part of the dining room that all children, which would have been fine if we hadn't paid for a babysitter for our own young children so that we could have an adult meal. I'm glad that I tried it, but I won't be going back.
The food is so good! But it took an hour waiting for the mealâ¦â¦
I went to House of Prime Rib for the 1st time today with my husband and my 6 years old. It was 4:30pm. It took us 2 months for the reservation and it was well worth the wait. You do need reservation if you don't want to wait for 2 hours to be seated for walk in. The prime rib was excellent. It was cook perfect. My son ate the whole thing. Our waiter was so cool. Nice guy. Greatservice. He always check on us. It was a great experience. Valet parking is $11.00 I recommended valet parking. It's easy in and out. No headache looking for parking space. We will definitely go back in the future. I highly recommend!
we've been going to this place for over 10 yrs! We are now building our tradition to our kids celebrating special occasions here. The meat is very tender and the trimmings hit the spot! From the bread, to the salad to the main course down to the bread pudding, everything is 5-stars!!
Great food at a great place. \nDave H\nMelbourne Australia
Been having dinner for years at House ofPrime Rib never fails to be great . Good service and great food and drink.
Took my family to celebrated a birthday. Other then our waiter Josh it was a extremely disappointing dinning experience. The resturant was extremely hot, the tables were right on top of each other so that alone made the noise level extremely high. Our cocktails were weak. We didn't finish them! But the major disappointment was the prime rib. It was fair at best! Seeing how this is the name of the resturant it should be excellent! Even the salad this night was below par! Sad to say we will not be going back..
Super like always. The best prime rib I have ever had.
A must do when we are in town! Great service, delicious food, a classic!
One of my favorites EVER- always try to have dinner here when I am in SF-
I've been to many steak houses before and this place isn't as inviting as I would have liked. This place is crowded and noisy. I was expecting fine dining, but with all the noise, it seemed as though we were dining in a sports bar.
The best ever. Love this place!
This place is well worth the visit, just make sure you make reservations ahead of time. I wanted to go here for my boyfriends birthday and started with a reservation for a party of 8, then changed to 12 a few day before which was pushed back 30 minutes, and then I needed to increase to 16 the day before and it was pushed back an hour, but they were still very friendly and accommodating. There was no wait to be seated once we arrived.\n\nCome hungry! The portions are huge. $43-46 prime rib meal. Includes Salad, sourdough bread, corn bread, which all came before the entree. Try to hold off on eating too much bread. Then comes the meat with a side of spinach or corn or both. I suggest ordering an amount of meat that you're willing to eat at the restaurant because it's not as good to go. They happily provide a small slice of seconds if you want it.\n\nThe service was awesome. Friendly waiters who had a sense of humor and who were willing to deal with such a large party. We ordered 4 bottles of wine to share between the table of 18 and ended up at $69 per person after tip and tax. Worth it!
My group arrived right on time for our 7:30pm reservation and was able to be seated promptly which was both surprising/awesome.\nHuge fan of the house salad.\nLove the Au jus and how you're able to get more of the sides if you ask. We were able to get a boat of au jus for our table.\nThe Prime Rib was delicious of course!
Their prime rib is easily the best prime rib I've ever had.
Every visit is special and indulgent. A timeless restaurant. A place to make memories. The presentation is fun. Great martinis. Incredible food. Wonderful service.
Service was terrible. We had a waitress and a waitress that was being trained. The waitress took our order. The waitress-in-training tossed the salad which turned out to be terrible. She didn't toss the salad well, so some parts of the salad didn't have any dressing, while other parts were salty. She tossed it in a careless fashion so she tossed some of it out of the salad bowl on to the tray and to the floor. She did not portion out the salad equally. Some salads were smaller than others, and was not nicely arranged with lettuce hanging over the sides of the plates.\nWe asked for cornbread, and our waitress said it would be coming soon, but we never got the cornbread.\nFor some reason, many of us had stomach aches that night and into the next morning.\nOverall, our server was not very attentive - leaving a lot of the tasks to the waitress-in-training, and only coming around at the end of our meal. It felt as if the only thing she was interested in was getting a good tip at the end of the meal.
My wife surprised me with my first trip there. The food was great and I will be back.
Your options are limited for a good reason. Your best bet is to order a prime rib, which is the best cut I ever had. \n\nAlso, Anna the hostes was super friendly and helpful, and made sure we had a great time.
This is a night of old world class dining at its best. The food cannot b beat and it's just an experience in itself. I always cannot wait till I go back again.
It is hard to imagine a place living up to having to make reservations seven months (if you want to eat on a Saturday at a normal dinner time) in advance, but this place absolutely did!! We came for our anniversary and had some of the best Prime Rib ever!! A little pricey for a normal dinner, but an excellent choice for any special occasion if you LOVE MEAT!!
kara our waitress was excellent. the hostess was warm and got an excellent booth when I called ahead to note the occasion, 97th birthday celebration for my mother-in-law and daughters.
The House of Prime Rib lived up to it's billing. \nEXCELLENT food and service! I was surprised by the value as well. What I paid for a full meal was relatively equal to (or actually a little less) than what I pay just for an entree at other steakhouses. We will definitely eat here again. \n\nI did find the restaurant to be quite loud. That would be the only negative remark but it may have been because we were there on Good Friday.
Good special occasion. Meat is good, not exceptional. I think I make it better @ home and must less costly. Missing the outer crust since cooked in salt. Spinach is good and salty, corn is creamy. Unfortunately our server Bryan has almost zero personality although he did fulfill all his duties as requested, nothing more.
Love this place but can't go often. Good portion, good value, fun place. Salty, creamy, fatty, greasy! But then again that's why its soooooo good!
Consistently good prime rib. Order a big cut, take the leftover home!
Has become a traditional location for a birthday celebration.
Great Meal, Best Prime Rib!!! Sarah, The Server was Awesome!!!
Although the front room is loud that I felt I would have to yell to talk, the food and the service was great like always.
I have finally got my chance to visit this restaurant and it was even more spectacular than I had in mind! Don't get me wrong, I knew it was going to be excellent, but I truly can't choose the right word to describe! From the moment you arrive to the finish of a truly phenomenal finish! Start with the most unique salad with a dressing that is said to be fermented for twelve days and have one ingredient in it that I don't care for however, I finished the whole salad! Then comes the prime rib! I ordered the biggest cut, I had to just in case I really liked it, OMG, glad I did cause I finished it off including all the sides! The creamed spinach is indescribable as it sets the stage for the perfect accompaniment to the meal! The mashed potatoes, dear god I wanted more but didn't know where to put it in my stomach! I've never had Yorkshire pudding so perfected in my life! It soaked up all that wonderful juice and every bite with the prime rib was 'org******' I was so stuffed but still ordered desert and we shared the tiramisu and the fantasy cake! They were both indescribable but the fantasy cake did the same as the prime rib! 'Orgâ¢â¢â¢â¢â¢'! So I write this and want it all right now so at least I have set up reservations every month so I can spoil my taste buds! I live in Reno and it will at least be a once a month trip just for mainly this!!!!
We arrived on time and the stupid relief host who checked us in (but didn't check us in)and we keep waiting for 40 minutes and finally went and ask another host to double check why we didn't get sitted. He said we didn't check in until 4:30pm. So we told him we checked in at 4 with the relief host so they finally sitted us.
If you love prime rib, this place is a must. Several cuts available to suit almost anyone's taste. Service is great as well as the food. The atmosphere is nice, but the noise level is high, but for some reason, it isn't a problem. You can converse quite easily. The whole experience from start to end is definitely worth repeating again and again.
We went to celebrate a birthday my daughters ages 26 and 14 where amazed.\nThe evening was fantastic everything the service etc
This is another favorite. Always booked so you must make a reservation ahead of time.
It was our first time there. Our waiter was helpful, our drinks were always getting filled, plates taken away, and the food was outstanding. Cannot wait to go again.
We come here every year for my wife's birthday and other special events. This year we went on her birthday again.\n\nAlthough he knew it was a special occasion, the server gave us quite perfunctory treatment. We were treated like any other day. I had to remind him twice that it was my wife's birthday. Finally, after we finished our coffee and tea, he and a couple of servers came with a goblet of ice cream--no candle, no photo as in past years. They did sing Happy Birthday, but they started when I told him I was still getting my phone camera ready. (We had been waiting so long that it went to sleep several times and I had to wake it several times.)\n\nThe meat also was much more gristly and not 'melt in your mouth' quality as in past years. It is not because of how we had it cooked--my wife had hers medium, our son had his well done and mine was medium rare, but all were much tougher than in the past.\n\nThis was an annual event for us, and we have photos from every year on my wife's Facebook page. We have nothing this year, because they didn't take a photo. We will go somewhere else next year.
Does not live up to the reputation, it's just ok. There are just too many local restaurants in SF that offer great food and ambiance to use a evening here.
You really need to come here for the prime rib and that's that. \nIf you're expecting a steakhouse, this is not the spot. Wish they had more sides. Also if you're in a rush, avoid this place. We had an 8pm reservation and were seated at 9pm.
We have been to The House of Prime Rib many times, it's a family tradition! In the past few years we have had less than stellar service for one reason or another. I have to say our experience on Thursday night was the best! The server was amazing, let us have a cocktail with no pressure to order, let us finish our meal at our own pace (my mom is handicap and eats quite slow). He was funny, helpful even offered to take a group picture with my camera to send to one member of the family not a bel to attend. I am very glad the service is back to HOPR standards, the food, as always was fantastic!
I found the house of prime rib to be one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. The food was absolutely delicious and the prime rib was to die for. I wish they had one in South Florida.
Whatever cut you order, the meat will be perfect, a fantastic wine list, cozy ambiance and friendly staff: you can always count on an amazing dinner here.
Great quality prime rib.... Also loved the sides, specially the creamed spinach.
The House of Prime Rib is very popular and busy. The staff is quite friendly and professional. I really appreciate their effort to accomodate me in every way. This business is buzzing with activity and gives the impression of being a finely oiled machine. The restaurant has a fairly roomy lounge area adjacent to the bar, where I have sat to order a drink in the past and wait for my dinner companion to arrive. This time, however, the lounge had been converted into a dining area and was set up to accomodate a party of twenty-five. I asked about this and was told that the lounge area is only open for cocktails from Friday evening through Sunday. I was a little disappointed, especially since many of the other cocktail tables spread around were occupied by customers with reservations who were still waiting to be seated, even though they hadn't ordered cocktails.
Excellent service and outstanding beef. Everything was prepared tableside including salad, main dish and sides. Excellent.
Want the best prime rib anywhere in the world? If you're at The House of Prime Rib, that's what's in store for you. Any size, any temperature, and with anything you want, as long as it's salad or a form of potato. We first ate here four years ago, and it has become a fixture on every visit to San Francisco.
While it may take a while to get in, definitely a must in San Francisco especially if you like prime rib. Once the entire party gets in, they check you in and in a short while, bring you to your table, do not be late. Once seated the fun begins. The staff is always friendly and out going, walk you through the experience, let the fun begin.
Most amazing Prime Rib I've ever had. Recommend the English Cut. Brings out the flavor even more.
House of prime rib is always the first choice in my family for birthday occasions. We love the staff, the amount of food you receive is a great value and never disappoints. The whole experience is lots of fun and everyone leaves with smiles and full belly's. It's not wonder why their reservations book out months in advance.
Prime rib done right. Definitely a good price for what you get!
Always a great evening! A family favorite for many years! Although none of us live in San Francisco any longer, the House of Prime Rib is one of the things we miss most!
House of Prime Rib never disappoints. The service, wine list and quality of food are spot on. The noise level can get up there, but it's always that way and you know it going in. Just make sure to have your reservation.
One of the best place in town for Prime Rib!!! Good place to celebrate special occasions and birthday...
Simply Amazing! The primerib is the best in Bay area maybe even California.
Bar experience fabulous\nWaitress not so good - was a boy over aminated / like Disneyland / as a native SF, I prefer understated vs being treated like a tourist\nAlso was a bit taken aback she wanted us to prepare and pack our own leftovers - that was a first
I've eating here many time and they never disappoint. The food is always fantastic and the staff is always friendly.
As always, food was great but my server was sub par/poor yesterday night. Inessa was inattentive and it took away from the first time experience for the couple we dined with. I understand she has a heavy accent but when your dining companions keep asking what she said/asked for, it definitely takes away from the dining experience and showmanship. I felt our table was ignored during the whole dinner and would definitely not want her as a server again. Otherwise, food was delicious and I'd come back again.
Where's the beef? It can definitely be found here! The prime rib is juicy, flavorful, and melts in your mouth. It is pricey but the quality of the beef and the preparation is worth the price. A great place to celebrate a special occasion or to bring out-of-town guests.
We're not in the Bay Area much anymore, but going to House of Prime Rib, even at 9:30pm for a table of two, is always a highlight. The quality is consistently high, the portions generous, and where can you find that old-fashioned non-a-la-carte meal at this kind of upscale establishment? Also, a reasonable and varied wine list!
Our server Frank was great. This was the second time we've had him and it was just as awesome this time. He was on point and provided great timing to the whole experience. The room we were in was a little bit noisier than the other parts of the restaurant, but not unbearable. We will assuredly be back for her birthday next year too.
My husband and I went to House of Prime Rib about 10 years ago and did not return since. That experience was really bad that we waited for 45 minutes even we had a reservation. The steaks were mediocre and nothing special about the dinner. Perhaps, the waiting was so frustrated and killed our appetite. Our friend recently recommended us to give it a try again. The waiting time to reserve a table of 2 at 6 pm was 1.5 months. We got there early and were seated right away. It was already pretty crowded at such an early time. The waitress was nice and courteous. The bread was warm, fresh, and crunchy. The salad was amazing and tasty. We both ordered King Henry Cut (the largest size) prime rib came with bone and with 2 sides. Creamed spinach, baked potato, smash potato, they were all good. Both of our prime rib steaks (medium rare) were super delicious, succulent, juicy, tender, and and ....We both will be back very soon...
I first dined here with my late husband over 20 years ago; he had been coming here for decades before that. I absolutely love all of it, and how the quality has been consistent all this time. It is also one of the few upper-end restaurants that doesn't nickel and dime you to death with everything being a la carte!
It was amazing!
House of Prime Rib is an absolute must whether you live in the bay or are visiting. Everything is delicious and you get 5 star service for a great value. I brought my husband here for his birthday and he loved it so much that he wants to celebrate every birthday here. House of Prime Rib is one of the best!
If you enjoy dining at Lawry's, then you'll love House of Prime Rib. Same type of rolling cart containing prime rib and all the sides. They even have the same spinning salad bowl and menu choices. My choice for family occasions.
It is always excellent. We dine at The House of Prime Rib a few times a year and again it is always excellent. Our waiter Josh B. was fantastic and took such good care of us. Very attentive. It was my sister-in-laws Birthday also. Again, always wonderful and just a great place. A CLASSIC.
I love prime ribs. The place was cramped but the food was great. I love the food very much like the salad, the prime rib, yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes or, loaded baked potato, creamed spinach or cream corn.â They carve your lovely piece of prime rib table side along your table. \n\nThe best thing though is the customer service. Our server named, Chad, was very polite and attentive to or needs. Chad was wonderful. He was very accommodating . He was very efficient and attentive to ensure our food was served perfectly. He gave us a second serving of hot bread without us even asking for it. The salad was served cold from a bath of ice and was freshly drizzled with the salad dressing right in front of us. He impressed us when the time that we had finished our meals that he was able to pick up immediately and offered second slice just in time before my food completely settled. \n\n\n\nThen at the end of the meal another server had very methodically wrapped up all of our left overs to go.
The House of Prime Rib never disappoints. The whole experience is delicious from start to finish. However, the new host was rude and not helpful. He made no attempt to assist with bringing our cocktails to the table and when we told him the table was wobbly, he shrugged his shoulders and said I'll see what can be done and never returned. \n\nNonetheless, we enjoyed our evening.
4 of us who have lived here at least over 5 years each hadn't been to this iconic SF establishment, so we made plans to go. It was delicious. We didn't realize that the price included the entire meal (salad, sides, main) so it actually wasn't as expensive as we had anticipated. We'll definitely be back. All of us thoroughly enjoyed it.
House of Prime Rib remains one of my favorite SF meals--and one of the best deals in town. For meat lovers, there's no better place to get a great prime rib with all of the best sides. I love the mashed potatoes and creamed corn, but appreciate all of the options. This is always a fun meal, and as soon as I go, I look forward to my next time there!
The food was consistent. Good. Downside is that a reservation equals to a 30 minute wait without an update from the hostess. Server was friendly.
Fun place to celebrate a special occasion! Delicious desserts!
There's not much to say except that no other restaurant compares! The BEST prime rib you'll ever have with a friendly waitstaff and they are always consistent. I've been here numerous times and never once been disappointed. Superb.
Great food and great time as always. Is just getting very pricey.
It's old school food and service. They do one thing and do it very well.
We've been here several times and it's been great every time! This was our first time with a large group (8) and our server handled it wonderfully.
Consistently excellent. Great prime rib and baked potato. Salad dropped a notch from prior years. Entire restaurant crowded and full seven days a week. Best for groups of four or more. They give out many doggie bags. Once you eat there, you'll return.
First time we've gone to this San Francisco institution but we'll definitely be going back. Food was excellent - everything (salad, loaded mashed potatoes, creamed spinach - and of course the star of the show the prime rib!).
Service was exceptional\nFood over-the-top\nOnly negative, a little noisy
Been going here for years and never had service as bad as I did - it was obvious the waiter was profiling or ignoring my family (we were not dressed in suits... we just got done with a music festival in Golden Gate Park...) We had to ask for bread & butter (the table after us got theirs right away) had to constantly hunt down the Waiter - he seemed bothers.\n\nFurther the Mojitos were terrible - not drinkable, for the price charged it is not acceptable. The Prime Rib was underwhelming this time... not sure why, did not seem Prime or aged - maybe the service soured the taste\n\nOf several trips this was the worst. I will return - but hope this does not happen again, or I will stick to Harris' up the street (we chose HOPR because it does NOT have a dress code and is a little more family friendly) -
Food was amazing as always. Had the house cut with mashed potatoes and creamed corn. My only complaint is that when I made my reservation on OT, I requested for a surprise dessert with writings of 'congratulations and i love u.' Even upon arrival and checking in with the host, I've mentioned about the special request and the host kindly said it's been noted and will be taken care of with our server Paul. Sadly, it wasnt taken care of. I mean how hard is it to send out a small dessert with the requested writings when the table next to us gets a free scoop of ice cream for his birthday? So save ur time and breath for any occasions other than bdays because the staff simply does not care.
Great customer service. Our server Kara was friendly and responsive.
This was our second year in a row to celebrate our wedding anniversary ... our 20th this year. My wife and I loved our visit last year and it was on top of our list again for this year. We made sure we got our reservations in well in advance! My only disappointment was that they have greatly reduced the area to have a drink while waiting to get a table if arriving early. We were lucky to get a seat.
This place is an institution and has been around forever. People love them. Their prime rib is tasty. However each of the 3 times I've been there the cut of meat I get is not properly cooked. Twice I got medium and it was medium rare. So the last time I said medium well and I got well done. I know I can send it back but they are always so busy and it took a while to get the food so I didn't want to complain. Plus the waiters there are *so* nice, that I just ignored it. Also I go there because my boyfriend loves it but I think they should try to jump on the organic bandwagon and try to have grassfed or antibiotic free beef. Their beef is corn fed. They should seriously re-source their meat. And also maybe have some local and or organic veggies? Just some suggestions for improvement.
An elegant yet fun and poppin places. Our waiter was especially nice and friendly. The baked potato itself would have been a meal.
Service was fast, we were seated right away when our entire party was here, slightly before or reservation. Food is amazing, including their cocktails! Love how they don't rush you out of there
Very consistent food visit after visit. Best prime rib in the world!
Everything about this place is first class. The service, ambiance, and friendliness of the staff makes for a very enjoyable experience dinning here. My only complaint is that the portions have gotten smaller while the price has gone up. Shouldn't the serving size remain the same if the prices were increased?
I Dined there at seven O'clock on Sunday night Sept. 25. While the food was good service was very, very slow. Four tables that came in after us all received their food long before we did. My waiter explained a group found a small piece of cork in the wine and it was necessary to involve both our waiter and the floor in manager in what appeared to be an inordinate amount of time to smooth over this group. It was not good. The restaurant was as always extremely busy.
We were celebrating. But we were late. I called the restaurant. Our reservation was kept, although our table wasn't.\nWe waited only ten minutes in the lounge before beginning a perfect dining experience from beginning to end.
I hadn't been here in years and it far exceeded my expectations (and memory of it). What's not to like!
If I were go back, which will never happen, I'd make a meal of the sourdough bread first brought to the table and some selection from the wine list, which lists some excellent wines (albeit priced more like ocean cruises). The noise is deafening. Maybe if you are a group of ten or more, you would enjoy it.
We look forward to coming here every year for our anniversary. Enjoy watching the server prepare our salad at the table and the chef carving our prime rib from the cart.
The service was a little off the last couple times I have visited. Other than that I enjoy the atmosphere and food still.
We will go there every time we are in San Fran, great food, great martinis, great place!
We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. The serving person was warm and friendly helped in keeping all of us happy. The service was outstanding, as well as the food. This our family favorite place for special occasions.
If you go in with no illusions about what exactly this restaurant is, then you should be impressed with their execution of delivering excellent prime rib. Otherwise, pick another restaurant.
worth the experience and make sure you booked in advance!
BEST PRIME RIB EVER! I've tried Lawry's in Las Vegas and it is the same menu except for one thing, the food at House of Prime Rib tastes so much better. Now I've had larger cuts of prime rib for equal or less money but they do not compare in taste. Also, the cocktails are a great value as they give you the cocktail shaker which means you get about 2 glasses worth of drink for the price of one cocktail. I always come here when I'm in San Francisco. Book ahead of time. Reservations fill up fast.
Prime Rib is excellent. Mashed Potato some of the best. Setting is getting on the tired side. Noise levels are not good in one room where is is a hardwood floor. Overall a very nice occasion.
Loved it & will be back, but sadly skipping the salad next time as it was very wilted
The food is always good but the drinks were horrible. They put too much alcohol in mixed drinks which might be good for some people but it ruins the balance of the drink. Also, greyhound with canned grapefruit juice? Are you kidding me?
As usual, food was perfect. Service from 'Joshua' was great, as well. One of our favorite spots.
Amazing food portions. Great cuts of meat and delicious sides and appetizing bread. Loud atmosphere, but it was crowded on a Monday night if that tells you anything.
Was my son's birthday and six people thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. All had prime rib and found the taste and texture of the meat spectacular. Come here on special occasions and three of the six had never been here before. All will definitely be back.
5:30 reservations were prompt. Valet parking is a great plus. Bustling place from the get go.\nNever disapointed in the food service and seating arrangements. \nWe will be back for another family outing for sure.
We arrived 15 minutes early, celebrating a friends 80th BD. The bar & bar areas were completely full ( it seems one of the dining rooms could be used as a bar overflow area ) We had a comfortable booth & a lovely waitress Inessa. A group of 14 was seated nearby, they were loud & only got louder as the evening progressed. Cocktails & 4 bottles of wine added to the noise.\nI went to the podium to complain. Our waitress continued to apologize. Another couple moved to another dining room. When the manager appeared at our table, the food had been served, he \noffered to move us, that was not the point. The issue was how redicuously noisy the group was getting. There needed to be a intervention & it wasn't happeneing. I will never go back again.
House Of Prime Rib is the best . We went to Flemings & they are way too pricey.
Our server wasn't very friendly. I was disappointed that I didn't receive better service given the price of the meal. Maybe she was having a bad day, but it was disappointing. I wasn't pretentious or demanding, I'm not sure why it resulted in the experience it did. Additionally we were seated right in front of the front door which is loud in addition to being next to the bar. For a table for two the table was literally 2x3. Finally, I brought a nice bottle of wine $150, I had to ask my server to open it for us when our main course was served even though I placed it on the table as soon as I was seated.
House of Prime Rib is a classic, but like many restaurants in SF they cram people in and get them in and out quickly. Just be aware of this if you are bringing older folks. In my case I knew my parents would love the food, but it was kind of tight and loud in there for them. It's probably worth it for the prime rib though, it's pretty amazing. In the end everyone was happy.
On time reservation. We were called right on the time set. \nOver rated Prime Rib.
Old school special occasion.\nAlways perfect, my brother and I introduced a new generation ( my two sons ) to this unique San Francisco experience.
Hands down one of the best places to celebrate an anniversary with a loved one. There's only one place that can serve prime rib like they do, and it's spectacular. \n\nDon't forget to try their selection of variety desserts!
This restaurant is extremely noisy and made it hard to enjoy our meal. We sat on a booth in the second dining room and it was a frenetic with the waiters and busboys running around. Plus, when my meat was served it was cold and I had to send it back. The salad was good, but the lettuce was warm and wilted. Probably won't return.
I still love this place, but like everything else their prices have gone up by about $10 to $15 for the same cut of meat/menu. Maybe for the prices going up they should add dessert at no extra cost?
Our dinner at House of Prime Rib was fabulous. Our waitress was wonderful and on top of everything. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend dining at House of Prime Rib.
I first went to the House of Prime Rib on Van Ness around 20 years ago. I have been hooked since then. For the past 5 or 6 years, I try to go to the HOPR at least once a year. With my lovely wife. We never could or needed to plan far ahead enough to get a reservation and just dropped in when we had the extra funds to spend. Every time it was worth it. \nGreat meat, this last time I went with my son, I ordered a house cut rare. I think I prefer it medium rare. The Henry VIII cut is a big piece of meat. \nIf you finish your first piece, regardless of the size, they will offer you a second piece. I was never able to justify accepting the offer.\nCreamed spinach, Yorkshire pudding, baked potato. All delicious. The salad is ok, but if you get a table they make a show out of the salad. It's pretty awesome.\nHaving a reservation is definitely worth it.
This was our first evening in San Fran and we had booked somewhere close to where we were staying. We had booked for 8pm but it was approx 8.30pm by the time we had been seated. We had to wait in a crowded area by the bar - and it took a good 15 minutes to get served a drink at the bar. The place was really busy.\n\nI think this is a great place for groups. But for our experience it was not what we were looking for.\n\nThe food was nice, if not a little over priced. The service was good once we were sat down.
One of the best restaurants in SF for the value and service.
Overall, this is a classic. They do prime rib right. The decor and experience are throwback, with dark wood, low lights and red leather banquettes. I was a bit miffed to wait 30 minutes to be seated when I had a reservation. Once seated though, all was good. A well made martini improved my mood and terrific service resorted my faith. It's an all inclusive menu, starting with a delicious salad made at table side. Choose the size and temperature of your beef, baked or mashed, creamed spinach or corn and you also get a classic Yorkshire pudding. The beef is succulent and the sides spot on. If you're still hungry, they'll bring you a small second helping of need. The wine list is fairly good and predictable. All in all, it's a worthwhile dining experience you shouldn't miss.
Amazing good, excellent service. Timeless.
It was very good. Very similar to Lawry's Prime Rib restaurant but everything was a bit saltier.
I had often met friends to dine at HPR. This time was quite enjoyable with three exceptions:\n1. The noise level, which had been moderate in the past, was high enough to make conversation quite difficult.\n2. The salad, which I had always enjoyed, was not up to my expectations. The dressing was bland, the portion small, and the greens rather tough.\n3. The portion of Yorkshire pudding was too small.\nBut otherwise, HPR was what it has always been - a great place to have roast beef.
My favorite place to eat in San Francisco is the House of Prime Rib. While other restaurants come and go the House of Prime Rib is always open and always consistently great! Back in the 80's when my parents would visit from the east coast I would always bring them to the House of Prime Rib. My dad, being originally from Kansas City, MO loved his beef. The service is impeccable and the food is the best. There are other prime rib restaurants in California but they don't even come close to the quality and flavor of the House of Prime Rib. It's recently gotten a lot more popular and I've heard getting reservations can be difficult but I've never had a problem booking thru opentable.com. I've been going here consistently for over 20 years and the food and service are still as great as the first time. You won't be disappointed.
Took folks there who had never been, devoted red meat eaters, and they couldn't have been happier. Prime rib came cooked exactly as we ordered, with excellent and attentive service, as always. House of Prime rib has NEVER disappointed us. \nReservations needed well in advance if you are particular about the time.
Very good meal. You get a ton of food! Come ready to eat! Noise level is loud so if you are looking for an intimate dining experience this isn't the place. But if you're looking for a good cut of beef, you'll find it here.
I came here for my birthday celebration dinner with 7 guests. We started with absolutely delicious, freshly baked sourdough bread, followed by a tasty salad. The prime rib, potatoes, wine, horseradish... all of it was simply spectacular, all followed up with a delicious Fantasy cake with vanilla ice cream.\n\nThis is definitely near the top of my list of restaurants to come to for special occasions.
We went here for my wife's birthday and I reserved months in advance. It was well worth the wait! We recommend the English Cut. Tender. Mmmmmmmm
I had been looking forward to eating for HOPR for YEARS.\nMan, what a let down.\n\nFood was meh. Don't let them fool you that the mashed potatoes are 'legendary' - they are barely more than a blob of potatoe flavored butter.\n\nPrime Rib was good. Note that they DO NOT wrap up your second serving if you can't finish it. \n\nService was subpar for the amount you pay - our waitress seemed more concerned with the big table next to us than the 4 people at my table. I've had more attentive service at my local diner for breakfast. \n\nOverall there are better places in the Bay Area to have a nice meal. Don't waste your time or money...
My mom is in town and my coworker highly recommended this restaurant. I've tried eating here twice before but the wait was always too long and reservations were difficult to come by. I got a last minute reservation. I liked the old times feel of the restaurant and its decor. The service was great, it was nice to have the servers and cook serve you table side. My mom and I ordered the house of prime rib and we ordered it with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, Yorkshire pudding and salad. The food was good, but not amazing. We didn't feel the meat had a whole lot of flavor and the accompaniments were also fine but not great. If I come here again, it will mostly be for the service/experience and I will order the baked potato and creamed corn instead of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. I will also order the smallest cut of meat since we left feeling uncomfortably full.
Prime rib is always perfect , as is the Yorkshire pudding and creamed corn. The always ask if you want more steak, if you've cleaned your plate. Desserts were also excellent, particularly the fantasy cake. Half chocolate cake and half cheesecake. Prepare to be stuffed.
Prime rib was excellent; the sides that it came with were heavy and rich -- even the vegetables came with bacon. Leftovers lasted us another full meal.
Hubby and I enjoyed an excellent, old school meal of tender, flavorful prime rib with baked potatoes and creamed spinach plus a tossed-at-your-table salad. The decor is classic and fun. Our only complaint was that we felt rushed. But with the tight seating and noise level, one isn't likely to linger over cocktails anyway.
Always impressive! Service to quality and quantity of food is top notch! They do have prime rib dinners to go and their packaging for that is equally impressive! It's no wonder this place is a mainstay of SF and is the only one! HOPR is SF's very own!
Horrible service. Waiter dropped a piece of prime rib on my coat and didn't even acknowledge it until I said something.
We come here for just about every celebration! Enough said.
We had visitors from SoCal. They had high expectations, -and, they loved their prime rib dinner! We have plans to get together next year at the HoPR. They enjoyed it now, -and I am sure it will be a hit a year from now.
The beef was great. That was about it. Salad bad. Creamed Spinach bad. Baked potato ok. Champagne? Korbel. Really? Service: nice guy, tried to get our orders before we got our drinks. They were sold out, and it was obvious they wanted the table. It's a bit run down in there. Probably no remodel since late 60's. But the Prime Rib was very good.
I have been a continuing customer of the HoPR for 50+ years -even when I was then in a stroller. While overseas on active military (USAF) duty, I would always make the HoPR top priority when passing through the Bay Area. Now retired, and living nearby, this remains my favorite place to go with my family and friends. EVERYTHING is delicious; everything!
What better comment can I give? My visitors loved it. They say that it was the best prime rib, -ever. \nI have been coming here since I was in a stroller, and I'll be back, again, and again.
I always enjoy the showmanship of the food presentation. Our server tonight was very friendly and informative.
Very cool experience!
We had a reservation at 5:30 and were seated right away. Prime rib was excellent, a perfect medium rare. The server was pretty attentive the first half hour or so. However, once a big party (8 ppl)sat next to us, forget about it. We asked for an apple juice after the prime rib were served. The juice didn't show up until after we finished dessert and asked for the check.
An ICON. Absolutely perfect in every respect from the perfect martini to the salad dressing not to mention the Yorkshire pudding. I ready to go back.
We arrived a bit early, due to the popularity of this restaurant, and were seated as soon as a table was available (which was earlier than our schduled reservation time). Our waiter Aaron was 'on point' from his welcoming demeanor throughout the meal to his sincere thank you for coming! He explained each phase of our meal, since it was my friends first time, including the various cuts selection and all the sides; he even mentioned the 'second portion' option including sides which definitely made my day! For the price of the meal, which isn't low, it's well worth the value and a treat for the true prime rib entheusiast!
Why the hype? I really didn't care for this place and was upset that I went for a special occasion. They rushed us through our meal and the place is very loud.\nWill pick another spot for a special occasion - just wasn't what I expected.\nSurprised that so many people like it....shaking my head.
Great food and great service! Worth venturing to San Francisco for!
I've been coming here every 2-3 months for the past 2 years. The prime rib is THE best. I actually tried prime rib at several places just to confirm that HOPR is the best and it is. The Yorkshire pudding, creamed corn, salad and creamed spinach are all excellent. The wine selection is also great. It's also a good value!!! I recommend this place to everyone who visits SF w a few warnin\n\nThe 3-4 star review is due to the following: \n\n1) Always busy, which isn't a bad thing and makes sense given how good the food is. However, they are often 10-15 minutes late seating you even if you have a reservation. They could be better at this. Must make a reservation a few weeks in advance for a reasonable time. \n\n2) The bar is 99% of the time, open seating, which was confirmed by the hostess. However, the bartenders randomly decide who gets seated first. Either there's bad communication btw the hostess and the bar or the bartenders just seat their friends first or whoever tipped them.
Happy you now include the rib bones.
Made reservations a couple of months ahead. The last 2 times, we sat down pretty much with 5-10 minutes from our reservation time. Got a semi-circular booth for 4 people which was nice because the table is a little larger and we weren't cramped. Missing one table setting. The service was very good. \n\nThe thing that I noticed the last couple of times we went that they trim off the outside of the prime rib.... that's where all of the seasonings/flavor are!!!
We had an amazing dinner last night. Had the city cut, mashed potatoes , creamed spinach, and Yorkshire pudding. My husband had the house of prime rib cut. We did not want the meal to end. Being there is an event!\nThe only issue we had was that it was so noisy and hard to hear each other.\nWould recommend the $10 valet parking and \nWould definitely go back next time we are in San Fran.
Five stars for everything except noise level in the front section. If you want to talk, ask for the back room. The salad is unique, and they dress it with a flourish at your table. The meat is cut from a cart right at your table (if there's room for it to get there). Fewer tables would solve that. The creamed spinach is incredible, and the prime rib, of course, is exceptional. I miss some of the features of long ago: I wish they would serve the horseradish the way they used to. Again, fewer tables. But I totally understand why they don't offer seconds of meat any more: some people are greedy.
My wife, sister and her husband ate at House of Prime Ribs last Wednesday (May 4) at 6:30. It was our second visit and the other couple's first. I had originally heard about it on Anthony Bourdain's 'No Reservations' TV show.\n\nThe atmosphere reminds me of an old New York steakhouse. The menu is prime rib only in a multiple of cuts. We all got the House of Prime Rib Cut, a step up in size from the standard cut (there are also larger cuts available!). It was much more than enough!!! They recommend medium rare, but we went with medium. If doing it again, I might go with their recommendation. Sides offered are creamed spinach w' bacon (quite tasty!), creamed corn, yorkshire pudding, baked or mashed potatoes, and an outstanding salad prepared table side (as is the entire meal). Our waiter was very outgoing, helpful and friendly.\n\nWe ordered a nice bottle of Pinot Noir from Gloria Ferrer winery which we had visited earlier that day. The wine was great (on the mild side) and very reasonably priced.\n\nMy only caveat is have a reservation! They do a booming business. One couple came in without a reservation and were told it would be at least an hour and a half wait.
The worst service I have ever experienced. Went for dinner with my family, waiter continued to speak to us in Chinese after I had told him numerous times to stop. Then he asks where I am from? Throughout the dinner he brought the wrong drinks and just left it on the table anyway, messed up our meal orders (there's only so many options so that's hard to do), and at the end of the night decided to bring ice cream to the table without anyone ordering it saying it was on him and putting the fees on the check. For an establishment like House of Prime Rib you would expert far superior service but the night was the complete opposite.
The prime rib is perfectly cooked and has excellent flavor and consistency. The meal is more than I could hold with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, sour dough bread, Yorkshire pudding and salad made at your table. The service was attentive. I should note that the creamed spinach had a spicy element this go round and I prefer the non spiced version. All in all another great meal.
Once again The House of Prime Rib did not disappoint. As always, the food was terrific! We visited on a very busy night, but they still had us seated quickly and enjoying the yummy food before we knew it. Can't wait to visit again.
Food - ordered the King Henry cut which includes a complementary slice when you finish your first cut, medium rare, with baked potato. The Prime Rib was good but there was too much juice so the meat was a bit overly salty and drowned in juice.\n\nService - Horrendously poor! My husband ran out of iced tea after we started our entrees. His glass sat empty for the next 15 minutes with our server nowhere to be seen. When we were only 15-20 minutes into our entree, my husband who is a fast eater finished his Prime Rib first. While he was waiting for his second slice (which is included with the King cut per the menu), I had to go to the ladies room. During this time, our server finally showed up and instead of refilling my husband's iced tea and offering him his second slice of Prime Rib, she asked whether we needed a box. Since my husband was too polite and wasn't sure whether he had to ask for his second slice, he waited for me to return. When I returned from the ladies room to continue my meal, our server once again proceeds to ask whether we wanted a box, even though we had only been seated at our table for less than 40 minutes total and I was clearly still eating my Prime Rib. I informed her no, I was still finishing my meal, I had only gone to the restroom, but did my husband's meal include an extra slice. Our server loudly and rudely responded 'yes, but he must eat it here and not take it to go!' We were completely offended. First, she was the one who kept rushing us and asking whether we wanted a box when I was still clearly working on my meal, and second, she should've been doing her job and asking whether my husband wanted a second slice without our asking! My husband and I eat out a lot and have never encountered an any restaurants that rushes us to box our meals less than 20 minutes into our entree and just because we stepped away to use the restroom. We will never go to House of Prime Rib again as a result of their poor customer service!
Its not just a diner is a show. The main chef service the amazing rib cuts form a special cart right in front of the table. Even the salad is serviced by the waiter with a small ceremony and its being dressed in spectacular manner in front of you. The rib cuts were heavenly tender. The sides were also magnificent. I'm quoting my wife, who upon my remark that the food is too much and we will probably leave the baked potato relied: 'I'll rather leave my salmon, but I'm not leaving a single piece of this potato'!\n\nI now understand why this is the favorite restaurant of Anthony Bourdain in SF.
Overall an awesome experience. The prime rib was fantastic and the waiter congenial. But the hostess was deplorable. Even though we had a reservation, we waited 30 minutes for a table. Is this Open Table's fault or House of Prime Ribs? I usually have good experiences reserving with Open Table but this was not one of them.
Outstanding !!!! This is an amazing place wouldn't change a thing!!!!
Usually, I absolutely love my dining experience at HoPR. This time, not so much.\n\nWhen we arrived, said we were now a party of 3 instead of 4. (Literally only found out an hour before myself.) We were seated at a spot that would normally be for 2 persons, so it was a bit squished. But I was with friends, so we dealt.\n\nWaiter came over quickly, seemed friendly, took our orders. I specifically mentioned the pink tabasco horseradish, he said to remind him. Salad came along, but no bread. Dinner came, still no bread. I asked about the bread, he said it would be coming shortly. He thought I meant the yorkshire pudding, I said no, the sourdough bread. He hadn't been paying attention, it was delivered after the dinner. They forgot the corn bread, too. Didn't bring it until we'd had dessert.\n\nI reminded him about the horseradish. I couldn't eat my prime rib until it arrived. Fifteen minutes later, it's still not there. (Eating sides in the meantime.) Finally waved down one of the helpers. Five minutes later, the waiter brought the horseradish. I wound up eating only a few bites of the prime rib because I was so full from the sides. (And I didn't eat all of the sides.) I usually take about half of my meal home (reheats very well in the oven), this time I took almost all of the prime rib.\n\nDessert took fifteen minutes after table cleared. Way too long for an empty table.\n\nWaiter seemed off pretty much after he took our order. Was not responsive, was not friendly, had a 'I'm busy with other tables' attitude, did not bother to check on us at any time to see how we were doing, see if we needed anything. Not until the end of the meal when he brought our check did he see how everything was. I said, 'The food was as wonderful as always.' I didn't bother mentioning anything else.\n\nI'm sure he got the message we were underwhelmed when I left a less than 15% tip. (Which I have never done in my adult life.)
I really liked this place. I love the service, the food and the ambiance. Everything was really good, from the salad, to the steak. Great martinis too.
Great food, fun environment! Worth every penny!!
You will not find a better cut of meat in all of San Francisco. The prices are steep, but it's worth it.
Great. A classic SF experience!
Way too loud! We could not hear each other in conversation.
I've been to this restaurant several times in the last 2 years and there has been a significant change in the last 4-5 months. They've turned the bar area into additional dining tables and added small bar tables to the hallway which has really hurt the overall ambiance of the restaurant.\nThe newer wait staff hasn't been properly trained in basic dining etiquette: taking ladies' orders and delivering ladies' food/drinks before the men, waiting until everyone is finished before removing plates, etc. They are clearly trying to rush people through dinner.
Prime rib is consistently good. One of my favorite restaurants.
Food is always exceptional; however, in my comments I wrote we were celebrating a birthday and when confirming my reservation, the person on the phone asked if I would like them to sing Happy Birthday and asked me the name. But no one came out and wished my friend a HB except for me.\n\nBut service was excellent other than that. I still will return.
Server not as good as I've had in the past. But food was still up to par. Thank you
It took over 45 minutes for us to be seated.. The front desk and host was very disorganized. Very disappointing. The manager should have apologized or at least sent over dessert.
They serve the best prime rib. Always cooked to my liking. Everything is sooo delicious.
What people say are true...be prepared to eat a huge meal and be very full afterwards. Their prime ribs are very good.
We had an awesome waiter named Frank! He was courteous, attentive, and had a great personality. I love dining here and look forward to my next outing.
Food is always consistent and delicious. It's an awesome experience seeing the meat carved in front of you. If you order the house cut or larger, you can request a second slice. Mmmmmm.....\n\nThe cut is what you request, not too bloody and not too well.\n\nNo wonder why there's always a line and hard to get a reservation. It's one of the classics.
Best prime ribs I ever had !!! My new love and my new fave!!!!!
Classic dining experience with one of the best wait staffs in San Francisco. This place only does one thing but they do it better than anybody else. Well worth the visit and the price is much lower than you think.
Perfect from start to finish.
This is the 11th time in the past three years my three friends and I have gone to the restaurant. We make a point of going 4 times a year. Next up is December. I must say that this was the best dinner we've had in all of our visits. All of the other visits were great - this one was extra ordinary. No better Prime Rib in the Bay Area.
This place is amazing, as always. You know it's a gem when it's been around forever and it's booked solid every night and people don't mind eating prime rib and 9pm. I've never had a bad meal here and I've been coming here for 10 years.
We enjoyed our dinner but it was interrupted several times by a very large, very loud, and very rowdy party of 20+ people sat directly next to our group of 4. I enjoy HoPR for what it is, but cannot see myself going there more than once a year.
You have to try it to believe it. A must try location. Great for special events or if you just want a great prime ribs.
Repeat customer bringing his parents for the first time. My wife and I love everything about this restaurant (aside from the difficulty of getting a reservation): the service, bread, salad, sides, and of course the prime rib. It's not a cheap restaurant but with the bread, salad, and sides included, I actually find it a great value.\n\nThis particular trip, my mom was full of questions about the grade of meat, sourcing, etc. Our server Joshua was incredibly patient and explained to us in detail everything. He was very attentive throughout the night and quickly resolved a small wine glass issue.\n\nJust another validation on why I keep wanting to come back here, even though I live an hour away.
If you want Prime Rib this is the place! Such a great, simple concept...what size cut would you like, what temperature, mashed or baked potato, creamed corn or spinach? It's that simple...and it lives up to the hype! Great Beef, Great Service! I loved everything about this place!
This is a San Francisco classic and one of the best places for prime rib in the nation. It has an old world atmosphere that would please any Anglophile out there. The food is superb. I ordered the thin slices English Cut prime rib. Excellent! Their side dishes are equally up to snuff and the creamed spinach is to die for. I wish they would can and market it! Wonderful restaurant for a special occasion. It's a must place for those beef lovers like me!
I love House of Prime Rib! We had another great time!
Memorable as always, we don't always come for special occasions. I had a craving for prime rib and growing up in SF, this is obviously my go-to place. Nostalgic!
We had a wonderful time at house of prime rib
Always a crowd pleaser. Never had a bad meal. Great food and wines.
Great experience for our family with an 8 and 11 year old boys. We enjoyed the festive atmosphere and excellent service! Our only complaint was the heavy handed pepper in the mashed potatoes and spinach. It just made them a bit too spicy .
Always a great meal. Very consistent time after time. Little skimpy on the salad this time, however the meat was excellent as always. Will continue to come for special occasions and just for a great piece of prime rib.
By far one of my favorite places!!! Great Prime Rib!!!
My favorite place hands down. Has not changed since my first time at nine years old. That was forty years ago ... We go once a year to celebrate my birthday, and never disappointed. You gotta love prime rib though!
Fantastic food and top-notch service. Superb menu which only focused on prime rib and nothing else....a very novel yet practical idea.\nOnly slight drawbacks for the evening was the loudness and that we felt a little rushed as we had a 9:30-10 pm seating and the staff was nearing closing time. Not a real problem
Waiter way below House of Prime Rib's standards. Been going here for years. Worst waiter ever. However, the prime rib was outstanding.
The best prime rib in town, and for those who like seconds, they give you as much as you can eat. This restaurant is a San Francisco classic, it's always hopping and the food and service are always at a very high level. Perfect for a celebratory dinner or for just about any occasion. You don't need a special reason to enjoy!
This place is still spectacular for a foodie. Arrived before our reservation expecting to hang out by the fireplace for quite a while and ended up being seated mins early instead. Got packed into a table that very close to another, but the food and service quickly erased the irritation. Can't wait to return again!
We came for the prime rib and we're not disappointed. Cocktails and service at the bar were outstanding as well.
If you're only going to do one you'd better do it well. The prime rib was outstanding. One only has to decide how much prime rib they wan to eat. With the exception of the Yorkshire pudding the accompanying sides are good but not memorable. What is memorable is watching the floor show that is the staff as they tend to dinners. There are NBA teams that do not hustle this much. And when the dirigible shaped cart that contains the prime rib is pulled up to the table, well there is nothing quite like it. Easily the most unique dining experience we had in San Francisco. We'd come back.
My first meal at the House of Prime Rib was in the mid-1950s. Loved it then and love it now. A great experience as well as a great meal for any carnivore.
Great complete dinner! We had to wait an additional 30 minutes after our reservation. Otherwise, the food was delicious!
Definitely worth it!
Our family of 5 came for a birthday. We read all the good reviews and found our experience like the others. This is a great place to come for a great prime rib dinner. The prime rib is delicious, large, and all the sides were better than expected. The smaller dining room we were in is quite crowded and very noisy. Our server was lacking in enthusiasm, but the rest of the wait staff were very good. We had one vegetarian in our party and he really enjoyed the grilled veggies entree that was offered off the menu. The surprise is that we liked the creamed spinach more than we thought we would, and did not like the yorkshire pudding as much as we thought we would. Fun overall, and a great bargain for what you get.
Do you like beef? Then go. If not, then don't. This will be among the highest quality prime rib you'll have the opportunity to enjoy. Don't expect a pork chop, a porterhouse, a filet mignon. It has what the name of the restaurant says...oh and a great bar (do the Manhattan), wine list and excellent sides that are all included (spinach or corn, mashed or baked 'tater, salad and a round loaf of sourdough bread). All fantastic, they have it down to a science in terms of service. Restaurant packed solid at 5pm on a Sunday? Yes, this place. I love a place where I don't have a million options but what is done is done impeccably. That's this place.
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant the first time, and keep going back hoping to find the magic again, but so far I have been disappointed. It is always hard to get a reservation, it is always packed and while the staff is typically courteous and friendly, they are always in a mad rush. It is NOT relaxing, and yet that is just what I want an expensive, prime rib dinner with all the trimmings to be. Its not fun to be rushed through an enormous (and pricey) meal!\nI think I'm done trying.
A classic SF spot. Good for special occasions since you cannot eat like that every day.
Consistently outstanding food. Beef was very tender and delicious . The only negative was the noise level in the main dining area in the front.
We always love dining here; the ambiance is old-fashioned and charming albeit the noise. The floor seating is tight. We were seated at the back of a room where the lady next to us had her chair up against our table; and she rudely didn't notice. Spacier seating would add to a better dining experience. BUT the food is always excellent; the service ranges from excellent to just good, which was our experience. We will always return despite this. Great prime rib dinner; doesn't get better.
The food was great and the service was excellent. It was a wonderful evening..
We had a family dinner at House of Prime to celebrate a birthday & graduation. The noise level inside restaurant is very loud. The fixed menu made it easy to order for whole family. We tried the pecan pie & tiramisu. Both desserts were delicious! Pecan pie was just right not too sweet.
On Monday evening our prime rib dinners were exceptionally well prepared and quite delicious. The service was quite comfortable and professionally handled. The ambience was highly suitable for our party.
Great service and delicious food.
I love coming here for the delicious prime rib and great service.
This restaurant does everything very well. They have an awesome bar with knowledgeable bartenders to get your dining experience off to a good start. The selections are few, but excellently paired with their namesake, prime rib. Everything is cook very well and the meat is carved tableside to ensure you get the right temperature. The meal is excellent!
Even though I do not like prime rib at all, I went with him and another couple to the House of Prime Rib and just ordered the halibut. Unfortunately, the halibut was very overcooked and tasteless so I would only recommend this place if you love prime rib.
I am a third generation San Franciscan who love House of Prime Rib anytime. We go for birthdays, anniversaries or if meat loving friends are in town. LOVE!!!
The food is still excellent! House of Prime Rib does really good prime rib. The sides are great too, whether its the mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, salad or bread. The service is outstanding. Great waiters - make it a fun evening. We have been coming to House of Prime Rib for my daughters birthday for over 15 years. That's her favorite even though her eating styles have changed over the years. It's still a great place.
This place is always consistent in service and quality. Staff always friendly and accommodating. Best salad and prime rib you'll ever have! Come hungry!
The Yorkshire pudding was wonderful and this is coming rom a Brit. The potatoes, spinach, dessert and salad was excellent. The Prime rib was good but on the cooler side - my preference is that my food is a lot warmer than the my slice of prime rib roast. I would definitely go back there again!
Our 1st visit (almost a year ago) was fine, ok, just not all that. This time there were 8 of us celebrating my FIL's 91st birthday. HoPR had been on his 'bucket list' (what!?) so with the family in town for the holidays we coordinated bringing him up to SF to Santa Clara. The server was fantastic - attentive, kind, anticipating needs with 3 over 90 year olds at the table. And the food was outstanding. HoPR has this down to a science, obviously, but my FIL was so happy. I've never seen a bigger grin on his face. So, thank you HoPR and we'll be back sooner rather than later.
I really love the House of Prime Rib. Obviously, it's not a place you would go to very often since they really only have one item on the menu, but every once in a while it's hard to beat a great piece of prime rib with all the sides. everything they make is done extremely well, from the pre-dinner cocktails on down to the dessert
Honestly, I've been coming here since I was a kid - I'm now 50, and bringing my own kid... this place is always delicious and dining here is always a special occasion. Yes, the menu is limited, but the food is simply spectacular. No other salad tastes like this one, no other restaurant is as shameless with the 'loaded' baked potato, no creamed spinach even comes close (does anyone else even serve creamed spinach? And why does anyone order the corn? Ever?).\n\nOkay - so this time my Yorkshire pudding was a little overdone... watch it, HPR... but again: where on earth am even going to GET Yorkshire pudding anywhere else? This place just always takes me back to the era when we came here for my parents' anniversary every year, the host always remembered my dad, and everything about it seemed very, very special. If only they would go back to the red vinyl booths (the 80's dusty-rose make-over was, in my opinion, wholly unsuccessful)!\n\nYeah - it's expensive - and that's why we don't go more than once a year. But you can charge me whatever you want - I'm still coming back at least that often!
A great place for celebration. We always come away with a wonderful feeling, whether a party of two or ten. This has been our restaurant of choice for over 50 years.
...one can always count on the simple but extreme pleasure of a medium rare slice at House of Prime Rib.\n\nWe've already made our reservation 6 months out for the next birthday celebration!
Being regulars, this last visit, service was fine as usual, just not exceptional in terms of feeling a connection with the staff. All portions seemed smaller. Was disappointed that my portion for city cut was exactly same size as my daughter's child portion, which was thin. Wait person overheard us commenting on how thin my slice was and said that they would take care of it. Which didn't happen. At the end of meal we were all offered second paper-thin slice. My daughter wanted one and was told her meal didn't come with it, which was a buzzkill. First time she couldn't get a 2nd sliver, so was just taken by surprise. Only three out of 7 of us wanted a second slice originally so was surprised they couldn't spare an 1/8 thick piece of meat. In the past they put a small side of mashed potato with sliver of meat. It's fine if it's not Included, just the inconsistency throws off expectations. Waiter seemed to be just going through the motions, not as personable as we are used to. Of course, we'll be back knowing last visit was probably a one-off, we hope.
Be prepared to eat!! Great steak. Great sides. And great service.
They always kill it. Consistent in every way
Group of five ladies thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and experience. We've all been there before, but it's been a while, and loved the fact that there were no dramatic changes. Food is still excellent and service was right on.
As usual, I enjoyed the food, especially the prime rib. However, my dining experience was significantly impaired by the incredibly loud patrons at the table next to me. I know I should not blame House of Prime Rib for its rude customers, but I am sorry to say that I will not be quick to return.
traffic was killing us, running about 20 min late, called in to let them know 8 minutes after our res time. They accomodated without issue, this restaurant is the best!
Beef great as always. Ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine ($33) but wasinformed it was sold out so they offered a full bottle of same wine which I okayed , only to find the price for full bottle was $83! It ain't right and I won't be back.
Nothing remains the same, including the House of Prime Rib. The bar is now a dining spot: elbow to elbow diners. The side room, with tables and nooks, previously reserved for a more quiet place to have a drink, is now used as a dining area. With both the bar and the 'waiting room' given over to dining, there is no place to have a pre-dinner drink, except to stand, mostly in the way of the servers and bussers, trying to get to the tables. \n\nTables are crammed together, and even some of the doorways between rooms have tables in the entrances. The sound level has long been 'energetic' - now it is pure noise with far too many guests pushed into too small a space. Absolutely, go for a booth; being at a table is an experience to avoid!\n\nIn my humble opinion, the famous serving cart has become a joke: the pressure of so many diners, so little time, means food is thrown onto the plates with all the care and concern of a prison camp food line. The servers have taken on the role of a formula robot. Each table hears, or struggles to hear, the exact same phrases in the exact same way. \n\nAnd yet, It is still very good prime rib. The au jus is bland, and the side dishes have become bland, but ah, the prime rib. The wine list is good, and there are some nice wines at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a meal served at a moderate pace, in surroundings that allow for conversation, this is probably not the place to go. But, for pure quality prime rib beef, this is still the stuff of memories.
We had delicious food and outstanding service by the delightful Sarah. Thanks!
We always wanted to try this restaurant and it didn't disappoint .We are happy with the foods and the service was excellent. Will go back again when we come and visit San Francisco 3 times a year..
As always the best experience. I would not bother getting the king just because the house cut is more than enough and you can always ask for a touch more. Overall excellent!
I have eaten here numerous times and the food and service is always consistently good.
Excellent dining for any and all occasions
Food was amazing but it was extremely loud. I don't know if it was just the room they put us in and there were kids in there but it was very very loud. My husband and I were hoping for a nice romantic dinner and it wasn't but food was very good. We had a wonderful waiter as well.
The service and food is good. I came here for a b
The house of prime ribs is excellent for any time . It Was everything a five star restaurant should be . We are very happy we went. Thank You !
This place puts the 'Prine' in Prime Rib!\n\nFantastic old school steakhouse
It was a great place to celebrate a special occasion, everything was all nice and wonderful, the service was superb, the prime rib was very good,it was the best prime rib I ever tasted, the spinach was deliciously prepared that I can asked for more, the cream brûlée was so good,my daughter wanted to have a take out,my wife who is the celebrant was so pleased and happy for celebrating her special day to this place..definitely going back again soon.
Although I got a bug in my salad, the server was apologetic and super nice about it. She changed our meal to a la carte and gave us a dessert on the house.
It was Fantastic!!! Dining there is always a Pleasure!!!! Fabulous Food! Fabulous Place!!! One of my all time Favorites!!!!!!!
This was the first time that I have eaten at the HoPR, and I must say that it was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, just be prepared that the beef selection is limited to prime rib (hence, HoPR). The sides included the standard baked potato or mashed, as well as creamed spinach or corn, and bread.\n\nThe waitstaff were excellent and attentive despite the large number of patrons. The rooms are open so that the noise level is significant. Overall, I can unreservedly recommend this restaurant to others who want a good prime rib meal.
Excellent choice to get your beef on! Service was excellent, but come hungry, you do get a lot of food. Prime rib was cooked to perfection!
The food was excellent as always. The service very attentive. The drinks very good also. The only down side was the noise level was a bit high. Aside from the noise it was a great experience, I have been to the restaurant before and certainly will return again.
Our reservation was for 9:00 PM. We arrived at 8:50 but were not seated until 9:45 PM and there was no place to wait. It was too noisy to have any kind of conversation. The food was ok, but not great. Our prime rib was served luke warm and was not cooked the way we ordered. Our server was ok, but not very attentive. We do not plan to dine there again.
Always Great!\nWe recently celebrated a birthday at HOPR, and brought some 1st timers along. As always, everything was GREAT! Thank you for another memorable meal at HOPR!
Consistently wonderful! Best prime rib and ALL the trimmings.
Have been to House of Prime Rib at least 20 times. This time the food was very good. The Chef might as well not even came over and have been introduced. That's becoming more of a joke each time we go. But, the food was outstanding and as always, the SALAD kicked some butt.
As usual, the food was exceptional. The service was very good, although it appeared that we had a 'trainee' that night handling the small chores. I would give him an A for effort, but perhaps a high C in delivery. We never had to wait for delivery of the entree. Noise level is more than moderate, with tables fairly close together. The food is the draw; I would not take someone there for an intimate date.
We were awed by our evening at HPR - from the exceptional service to the quality of the food!\nWe were initially struck by the beautiful character of the restaurant itself.\nIn the bar, our martinis were perfectly classic.\nThen being personally escorted to our booth by our waiter was a wonderful touch.\nHe was extremely helpful and pleasant and we were very impressed by the way he constructed our salad.\nAnd then the zeppelin arrived - an art deco creation beyond compare.\nIn fact the entire staff performed like a seasoned cast at an award-winning play, each with his role to play.\nCertainly an evening to be relished a lifetime!\nThank-you HPR!
Have been going to House of Prime Rib for forty years. Great prime rib!
Usually have a great experience here. However tonight's waiter was very disengaged. He got 2 things wrong on our orders which is fine it happens but once asked to correct he didn't seem very happy to do so even though it was not our fault. Being a Waiter is hard and I understand by the end of the night one can be exhausted but for the level of class of the restaurant and the amount of money paid I expect a certain level of 'service'.
This place is just an overall great place! From the bartender and cocktail waitresses all the way to the table service! This is my 5th visit and everytime I plan a trip to San Francisco the first thing I do is set up my reservation.\nGet your table reserved and get ready for a great Dinner!\nSee ya next time!
I saw a segment on the Food channel about The House of Prime and I was not disappointed. Great food.
Haven't been in a couple of years and I forgot how really fantastic everything is. If you are a meat lover then this is your place. It will be one of the best quality prime ribs you have ever had. It really is PRIME rib, they only use the top 2% of all beef. The meat is so flavorful and tender it's hard to believe and they only pack it in salt to cook it. Nothing fancy just pure amazing meat. The meal comes with all sides, baked or mashed potato, creamed spinach and or corn, Yorkshire pudding to die for and one of the best hot sourdough loafs I've ever had. The meal starts with a salad that only comes with 1 dressing. It's a house dressing that they have been using for around 60 years and it is so yummy. I have never been there and not heard someone say man that is one of the best dressings I've ever had. It's so good I have been known to have my dinner and for desert order another salad. They also sell the dressing in bottles to go. But keep in mind it has no preservatives so it's only good for around 3 days. You can order your meat as a city cut for smaller appetites, house cut, English cut that is thin slices of beef or the King Henry VII for the hungrier of you. Then if you want they will give you seconds consisting of the English cut and sides but it's a lot of food to eat. They also serve 1 fish dish each night but why the heck would you go to this place for fish? The service is outstanding. They don't miss a step. The food comes rolled out to you table side in big domed silver carts with 3 or 4 whole prime ribs so you can choose your temperature. The deserts and good too. I recommend the English trifle. So if you want a fantastic meal you can count on this place to deliver!
SF landmark - only place to go for prime rib! For serous meat eaters, order the King Henry cut (on the bone).\n\nGood value with salad, sourdough bread creamed spinach, choice of potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.\n\nDessert is large enough to share for 2.\n\nAsk for table in the room away from the front.
The room we were in was way too loud. It was my mom's birthday and she did not like that a bit
The only place in the world for Prime Rib. Best service is SF, too....
You cannot get better food nor service; it is elegant, friendly, accomodating and warm. It is a magical experience but welcoming and elegant dining nor matter the reason you go. You cannot get better prime rib anywhere in the Bay Area --
never ever disappoints. once in a while to indulge in this awesome place is well worth it. Our server who we have known for years, Sara, is the best around. Always love it when we have a chance to eat at the House of Prime Rib.
5 stars high end prime rib steakhouse with all the fixings and great service.
Our server was great! She really kept up with us and our two kids. The fantastic part is that our reservation was at 10pm and the place was packed. The food was awesome and dessert was superb!
Had a wonderful dinner with my family, service was excellent and food never disappoints. Will definitely coming back again.
Never disappointing, superior food, service and atmosphere.
We had an amazing experience from start to finish. It included a ton of food for a solid price - loved that the steak order automatically came with bread, soup or salad and two sides. Cara was our incredible server - making the birthday celebration fun and enjoyable. The meat is carved tableside which is a great touch and was perfectly cooked. Highly recommended!
Always a pleasure to patron at HOPR. They consistently keep service and food at premium level.
Amazing food for the value. The only issue was the noise lvl but great food brings in people so it's something that was expected. I only come in seasonally because the menu is pretty sparse but I like that you do a handful of things really, really well
We were surprised by a cockroach. Took some time to the staff to evict it. Prime rib was not as good as prior times.
Food and service was amazing. Had reservations at 8 but sowed up early and we were seated right away.
Never disappoints! Truly an SF institution. Locals and tourist love it alike!
It's a San Francisco institution. Bring your appetite and bring your wallet. The ambience is noisy and cheerful. It is not super romantic, but a fun date night. Good for people who really love their prime rib.
Never been disappointed! The SF experience is not complete without your guests enjoying the superb beef gluttony of HoPR. Fantastic prime rib and side dishes at a very affordable price and attentive old-school professional service. Can't ask for more.
Food was great. Server was not as attentive as previous occasions.
Outstanding as always!
I've been coming here since I was a little girl and am now a senior citizen !!!\nAlways excellent food, service and ambiance ! Never disappointed with anything here.\nHard to get a reservation at the last minute but I make sure to reserve a table a few months\nIn advance in order to get the time I want to be seated.\nGreat place-highly recommend !
Our first time here, and we were very impressed. The prime rib was excellent, carved to your desired doneness and serving size. The creamed spinach was the best we've had (you can also have creamed corn). You also have a choice of baked or mashed potatoes. As long as you expect a carnivore's heaven, you will not be disappointed.
Called to confirm it was for my dad's bday. When I checked in I made sure to tell the host to tell my waiter it was my dad's bday and our 1st time there. Host told me he would do so. Waitress wasn't friendly. Took 15-20min before she even greeted us. Felt rushed when we were ordering and she didn't even check-in on us. My dad ordered the most expensive cut and it was mostly all bone. Waitress didn't even tell us that you're allowed to get a second serving of the most expensive cut if it were to be finished during our meal. I knew about because I overheard the waiter from another table tell his customers. Our waitress didn't sing happy-birthday to my dad because she said she didn't know. I don't know if it was a race thing but I didn't feel comfortable. Figured this would be a great place for my dad's 65th bday since I knew he always wanted to give this place a try.
The House of Prime Rib has excellent food, and is very consistent.\nThey have their act together.
I was not the meat-eater of the bunch, so take this review with a grain of salt. The key descriptor of this experience is lots of food. And any concerns about blood lipid levels should go out the window, especially with the sides. I had salmon, which was good though surprisingly, cooked 'rare'. It was like an ahi tuna sear. Not sure if that was intended, but I liked it. The beef cuts were well-enjoyed. The other thing that should be noted is that this is a noisy place. Not impossible tovhave a conversation, but it takes some effort.
The best prime rib in the Bay Area. Theater feel presentation is superb.
This restaurant serves best prime rib to the customer's taste and is carved right in front of you.\n\nWe eat here now and again.
The price of the meal was inclusive of the salad and sides, no extra charges! I only wish that the cart could have made its rounds but there isn't any room, too many tables.
Great evening and meal.
What can I say. Beyond comprehension. My wife and my favorite. Just awesomw
I've been going here since my grandmother took me here in 1965. The quality and flavor of the food remains superb, the staff are always courteous and helpful, the place is always packed, and reservations are hard to get. It is so worth it - as long as you like the best possible roast beef sliced to order, a wonderful salad, and the best baked potatoes available anywhere.
Service was quick. Make sure you have a reservation or else you will be waiting for a long time to get a table. This was our 2nd visit and for some reason, the portions were tad bit smaller and service was slower than before. It's a great restaurant for those who have yet to experience great prime roast and amazing side dishes.
The food was amazing but service was not! I can't even mention the waiters name because he never told us, but just came off as not caring at all. He didn't even bring drinks until the food came, even after we reminded him. The food was great, but I really hope to have a different waiter next time we visit.
Great atmosphere, very lively not very romantic cause its so loud but none the less its lively. Our server was very attentive.
Our go to spot for special celebrations. Make sure you arrive hungry it's a lot of food. Fun and loud atmosphere.
House of Prime Rib is our celebration spot. My husband and I like to come here when we want to celebrate a milestone over a delicious meal and wine and it's a favorite spot we've visited many times. While the food was fantastic as usual, the service at my recent visit was very disappointing. I'm not sure if it was just a busy Friday night or if it's actually gone downhill. After checking in for our dinner 10 minutes early, we were told to sit at the bar and we'd get called to our table shortly. After 50 minutes and some puzzlement, we still weren't called so I flagged down a server and asked where our table was. He came back and said that they hadn't marked us as checked in! Once we were seated, our server was prompt in taking our order. However, again we sat for 25-30 minutes waiting for our salad course to arrive. I love the food but our dinner was definitely extended by the slow service.
It was absolutely amazing and delicious!!
This is absolutely one of a kind restaurant you may find in the Bay Area. My last visit was about 5 years ago, which left me a great memory of the wonderful steak and the ambiance. The group of us were not disappointed this time. We specially enjoyed the way of their serving the food, right in front of the table, not happening at other restaurants. We'd definitely come back again to celebrate birthdays and the anniversaries.
Great food and service but extremely noisy. Would go again for the food but not a good place to carry on a conversation. We sat next to a table that was hosting a post-football game party with 8-10 men. All were drunk, crass and loud. No one could do anything about it or any argument would probably ensue. It made it harder to enjoy the experience for the other guests around them.
This was our first visit to this iconic restaurant. The prime rib here is perhaps the best I have ever experienced. I cannot think of a place even in NY or Chicago that does it this well. The salad is great. Even the sides are outstanding. \nThe service is 5 star and very friendly and the place is very comfortable. Great bar making excellent martinis and wine list with a wide price range, offering some nice reasonably priced options.\nThe atmosphere is typical of a very busy popular place.....loud and a bit hectic, but don't let that dissuade you. It is worth it!
This is an outstanding restaurant. We were traveling thru San Francisco and wanted to see if it was as good as advertised. It was much better. This place is a true classic !!!
Great service, classic food, very old school SF.
House of Prime Rib is a special restaurant with historical background in San Francisco. We consider it special when we get a chance to eat there. We had received a gift certificate from our son for the restaurant and took advantage of a day at the theater to follow up with dinner out, so we jumped at the chance to go there, having made reservations over a month in advance. The food is excellent, menu simple , service at the table excellent. The wait staff make it special, mixing your salad at the table, explaining the ingredients. The prime rib was delicious and also cut freshly at the table. It's an excellent experience all around!
First time going as we are from out of state. Great food, strong drinks and wonderful overall atmosphere. Will go again next time we're in the state!
The meat is very good,I think it is the best place to eat meat in SF. \nThe place is very noisy , better to be late. Maybe the cost is expensive....
The huge portions, tasty food, and lively atmosphere make it a great place to celebrate a special occasion for meat lovers that want an iconic San Francisco dining experience!
Great traditional old style restaurant. Brings back memories of my childhood family dining experience. Best prime rib anywhere.
Food, service, valet parking was on point. John , our server was superb. The only thing I would ask for next time is a more comfortable seating- the booth left all four of us elbow to elbow. But other than that dinner , service and price was splendid. We will definitely be back - with friends and family.
House of Prime Rib never disappoints. Always, Always excellent.\n\nSpecial Occasion.
King Henry cut is the best and worth it
outstanding restaurant for great food and service. it's a little pricey but definitely worth going to once in a while. i will definitely go back.
Well it is disappointing when you can't get a last minute reservation! Well I guess that's a good thing for the HOP! No matter what night of the week it is it is always busy and packed! The service is first rate and the prime rib is always perfect! \n\nMy only complaint is I ordered an expensive shot of very good whisky and it comes in an small old beat up glass. Not my idea of enjoying an 18 year old whiskey. You get it!\n\nOther than that I would be back again and again!
Loved how easy it is to order. Just select your meat size and everything else is included. Had enough left over to make beef stroganoff the next night!
A restaurant that only serves Prime Rib - what could be better???
We were a bit disappointed this visit. Our waiter was clearly over his head with the number of tables he was assigned. The salad was prepared and was not served to us for 10 minutes while he waited on other tables. Time to add more staff!
Felt rushed and food came out too fast
The creamed spinach is spectacular ! The prime rib was bang on to what we ordered. Great spot - never left hungry; great value !!
We had another fabulous dinner at The House of Prime Rib last Saturday! There were six of us and our server was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious as usual and several first timers in our group remarked that it was the best meal they'd had at a restaurant! Bravo! We will be back in November to, hopefully, celebrate the election!
Great prime rib and sides as always. The server was helpful and efficient. The restaurant is more crowded with tables than in years past.
Dinner was amazing as usual!
This was a high energy place that provided exactly what it promised in the way of food and atmosphere.
Waiter was delightful and food was fabulous! It's our favorite date spot
This restaurant is a must stop for me every time I am in the area.
If you like prime rib, old fashioned midwest style sides, and a surprisingly respectable wine list - you won't be disappointed. The gf and I went on a Friday @ 8pm (made reservations a month out) and seated by 8:15. Place was very busy and loud near the entrance but dissipated towards the rear rooms where we were seated. Service staff was great. Food was great. Wine was great. We will definitely go back - just not too soon AND will make a reservation again.
House of Prime Rib was a wonderful place for my birthday celebration. The attention to detail was impeccable - these guys run like a well oiled machine. Loved how old-fashioned this place is! Table side salad served with a nice chilled spoon, prime rib cut right next to you. This place is a great value and I would definitely come back for another special occasion!
I've enjoyed dining at the House of Prime Rib for more than 25 years, and the food, service and ambience are always exceptional. Make your reservations early!
Food - good\n\nService - unacceptable. The waiter talked too fast and didn't serve us as he was supposed to. He handed the food to our hands high up. Aren't they supposed to put the food on the table in front of everyone?\n\nTable setting - our table was set in the walk way. It made me feel uncomfortable. I made the reservation two months ahead. \n\nOverall - unacceptable. They should train their waiters/waitresses to be more professional.\n\nWe go out to restaurants not just for good food, it's more for the service. You expect more from a restaurant like house of prime ribs. I would give a 4-star if it was a so-so restaurant.
The decor is straight out of 1970. The prime rib and Yorkshire pudding are the best I've ever had. Desserts were just okay.
The service is going down the toilet. Food is still great, thankfully.
I had to make a month in advance reservation only to find out that I have to wait 45 minute for my table. The stake was okay mostly nerves. I really liked my waiter that's about it.
Food is not as good as back in 70's. A lot more loud than it use to be.
I've been going to the House Of Prime Rib for over ten years now and it is the best spot for Prime Rib in San Francisco. Every time a friend comes to visit I bring them here and they always leave happy. Food, drinks, service are all impeccable. Keep up the good work!
What a great experience we had! I put a little blurb on my reservation when I booked with OpenTable that it is my father's 60th birthday. With no reminder or anything, our great server came out with a candle lit dessert and sang happy birthday for him. I would definitely come back again and again! Thank you!
Once a year is all I can handle, but when you want prime rib, this is San Francisco's 'go to' place!!!
Despite we had reservation, we were waited for over 30 min.
Stellar landmark treasure that will definitely not disappoint.
House of Prime Rib is one of those really well known San Francisco restaurants that everyone should go to once. Some may describe it as touristy but the experience there is still great. The service is friendly and of course the prime rib is excellent. I've been a few times already but I would definitely come back again.
Perfect location and great cut of beef. The wine list is extensive.
Food was as amazing as everyone said it was. Meat was tender and lean- I cut my prime rib with a fork! Portions were generous and our server Candace was great!! Already have reservations to go back.
The House of Prime Rib is always fabulous !! Best bang for the buck!\nWe go every 3 months. I love the salad and baked potato eat half of the prime rib then have the rest of it the next day with eggs, it's the only way to roll!
We Always have Great meal at a very good value here. Very good wine list too. Short, but, quality. Not a snobby foodie's list for sure, just comfortable, and Great value. Our server, Justin, was just the BEST. We will go back sooner just for his Superb attention to detail. He treated us Very well. ( P.S. , the earlier you go the quieter it is), We finished @ 8:30 on a Sunday and the place was Rock'n!!!, especially the bar area, which was packed, and there were about 20 people outside waiting for a fabulous meal. Well worth the wait!!
For years they have had great prime rib and service. But they now pack you in like sardines and our table was so close to other table our chairs where against other tables and touching elbows with people at that table. If there was a fire, good luck getting out.\nThe food was good but I got the King Cut and there was more bone then meat. It is hit and miss on how big the guy cutting wants to give you. Another person at table got the King Cut and had twice as much meat.\nService was poor. Never came around to refill drinks or ask how it was.\nHaving people packed in also makes it loud and hard to talk without yelling. \nIt has become more about the money and how many you can pack in and out as fast as you can. What use to be a 5 star is at best a 3 star now.
there's no word to describe it\n\nIt was just bad overall.
I have been to many of the Lawry's restaurant , have been three times to Simpson's on the Strand in London (where supposedly Prime Rib began) but I keep returning to the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco every time I am in town; no Prime Rib compares to it
This place has always been our favorite spot for the very best prime rib. Unless you book months in advance it's nearly impossible to get a reservation unless you want to dine on prime rib at 9-10pm. Unfortunately they did not meet expectations for the first time. I'm pretty sure it was because we had an early 5pm seating. Our prime rib was served to us warm or just above room temperature. The plate was still cool to the touch when they are normally so hot from being in the cart with the prime ribs that the server has to use a towel to hold the plates. If they are going to charge close to $50/person they should have the carts fully heated and ready to serve before the first reservations are seated. We will be back as nobody has better prime rib but will definitely avoid the first/early reservation. Thanks.
Nothing has changed here for decades, but nobody is complaining. They do one thing extremely well - prime rib. Prices are reasonable and the wine list is not just extensive, but at prices just a bit more than you would pay at a retail store.
All I can say is AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! Prime rib was divine.
