There are a few different ways that travelers can go from Old Town to downtown once their train to San Diego has arrived. If you choose to drive, it will normally take you between 10 and 15min if traffic conditions are normal. You can also take local bus line 30, which will take you around 20min in total. One bus ticket generally costs around $2.50.
Santa Fe Depot Station is equipped with a variety of services and facilities for travelers, including an enclosed waiting area with seating where passengers can rest after their train to San Diego has arrived. The station also has plenty of outlets, vending machines that sell light snacks and refreshments, and public restrooms. An ATM is available in case you need to take out some cash before leaving the station.
The Pacific Surfliner is the train that is most commonly used by Amtrak to travel to San Diego. Depending on where you are departing from, you may also end up traveling on a regional train. On occasion, Amtrak may operate high speed trains for some of their routes.
