The owners Di and Noel have beautifully renovated this villa (built in 1910), which now exudes a French cafe theme--with fairy lights, plush red decor, polished wood floor. But more than the vintage surroundings, the hosts were warm and friendly, making their guest (me) feel immediately at home. Di is a film buff, and so she has an ample collection of dvds for guests to watch if they choose. There is also a flat screen tv in your room--adjoined by a large modern private bathroom, with an old-style bathtub with feet (which I loved, after a long and somewhat harrowing journey back from Stewart Island across the windy, rocky Foveaux Strait.) This is a perfect place for any traveler, a peaceful oasis. The day I departed for home, Di and Noel insisted on giving me rhubarb from their own garden in the back, and sneaked a cucumber into my luggage too!! If travelling in the South Island, this is THE place to stay. I will be returning, without a doubt.
Nothing. Perfect stay, perfect hosts, perfect location.
The owners Di and Noel have beautifully renovated this villa (circa 1910) which now exudes a French cafe theme--fairy lights, plush red decor, hard wood floors. But beyond the lovely decor, the hosts were warm and gracious, bending over backwards to accommodate my every need. My room was spacious, with a flat screen tv available, and a private ensuite bathroom, with an old-style bathtub with feet, which I adored having returned from a rather harrowing trip over Foveaux Strait from Stewart Island on the notorious ferry !!)... Noel cooked my breakfast both mornings, and he is an excellent chef! Before I left for my flight back home, he graciously offered to make me a cucumber and tomato sandwich with veggies straight from his back garden! Di also offered me some rhubarb and her own recipe to make a rhubarb pie. What a lovely end to my journey south. I heartily recommend this charming B&B to anyone travelling though the South Island. You won't leave empty-handed!!
Nothing could have been better--excellent location, near to Queen's park, excellent accommodation, excellent hosts. One of the nicest places that I have stayed in New Zealand, or anywhere, for that matter.
Exceptional hosts, amazing room and private bathroom, beautiful cooked breakfast, helpful local tips and suggestions on places to visit and dine, and convenient location.
My only regret is only being able to stay there one night! To make the most of the relaxing experience and beautiful surroundings, it would have been great to stay longer.
Very eclectic. Friendly owners.
We were lucky to be the only guests this time because we had the bathroom to ourselves. This would not have been the case otherwise. Room was very cold when we arrived. At least having the heater on low would’ve helped to take the chill off.
We were really looked after by Diane and Noel we had a very enjoyable stay in their lovely home
