We just finished the longest, noisiest election cycle in the history of the United States. And, regardless of how you voted, it’s apparent that in its aftermath travelers are looking for a vacation. On the morning after Election Day, our site saw an increase in searches that began at 6am EST and spiked to a 15% increase at 9am. In comparison with last Wednesday, that increase accounts for hundreds of thousands of additional searches.

While these popular cities aren’t entirely surprising, what’s interesting is that no beach destinations made the list. Both Montreal and Toronto offer a quick international vacation, while Switzerland is known for being peaceful (and politically neutral). Dusseldorf is popular for international direct flights because it serves as an easy stop-over to travel to the rest of Europe. Sao Paulo emerges as an international urban hotspot whose warmer temps are giving travelers a dose of much-needed Vitamin D as North America starts to turn dark and dreary.

So, no matter what the future holds, one thing is certain: Americans are prepared to dust off those passports and embrace international travel. And we’ll be here to provide the information they need to make the right decisions. Travel Problem Solved.

Methodology: We compared searches performed between 12am EST and 1pm EST on Wednesday 11/9/2016 with a US origin with searches performed with the same parameters on Wednesday 11/2/2016.
