What are the pros of staying at Santa's Hotel Rakka?
Very welcoming staff and great cabin! Great location and beautiful and spacious apartment. The staff here is fantastic; really helpful, nice and positive. The location is excellent right next to the local services (supermarket, petrol station, recycling point for glass, metal and cardboard.) Also the buses to/from Rovaniemi stop in front of the supermarket which is less than 100 meters from the hotel. Also the hiking trail leading to the lake and, if you have energy, all the way up to mount Saana begins almost under your window. The sauna, the breakfast and dogs welcome. Friendly and helpful staff, quiet, nice atmosphere. New, small but beautiful, comfortable room with unique decoration, lights, natural scent of wood, full glass wall facing the wilderness and at an angle you could see a peak of Saana. Nice breakfast table. Nice location, staff were nice when checking in. Nice chalet, all you need for a short stay. New apartment, everything is clean and works. The location is perfect and apartment really nice. The balcony with evening sun is super. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean with amazing view, the sauna was superb. Clean warm place. I was lucky to get upgraded to a one of the larger cottages. The place was very spacious and clean and had all the necessary facilities for our stay. There was a trail the lake that started just outside the cottage we stayed so we were able to go to watch aurora easily at night. The K-Market and restaurant was really really close so it was very easy to do grocery shopping and eat as well. Wifi was good. I must also mention that we were able to watch aurora from about 100m from the cottage. A cabin with high standards. Not quite up to the price, but the best accommodation at Kilpisjärvi. Good cutlery and very good location. A very short walk to the grocery store.
What are the cons of staying at Santa's Hotel Rakka?
Bed linens must be rented. Would have given this property a 9. But I booked two expensive chalet with fireplace. But funnily enough we have to pay 10€ for a pack of wood. Do note that their property is in the middle of no where. The hot water shower wasnt too hot for us. The room temperature is remotely controlled and we prefer to warmer in the night, and we spend long time looking for the controller for the aircon/ heater but cannot find it, we asked help from receptionist but apparently after 10/11pm receptionist went home and only kitchen staff on standby which she is not familiar and unable to help. We only able to contact the reception in the morning to remote control our room temp to 24 degress. This hotel reception is only until 9pm as per stated when i book the hotel, but on the day we check in at 8pm they have sms saying i am arriving outside reception operating hours and they leave the key on the key box on the wall. Just beware that they do not have 24 hours check in. The property is very nice even it was a little bit pity or bad luck that the shop didn’t sell firewoods and the woods were not included to the price. Linens, pillows, and beds were overused and unclean. Construction area nearby. Rooms need AC and blockers for mosquitos. Rooms got quite warm on a moderately sunny day and the air conditioning was working only briefly at the night. No individual temperature controls in the room, like so often in Finnish hotel rooms. air conditioning wad loud in our room. Beds were quite average. Also the air was not fresh after one night, it felt like the ventilation wasn't switched on at all for the cabin. There are a lot of vents for the air circulation but nothing was coming out from them. The small cabin felt like built in a hurry with poor/cheap quality materials. Inevitably we were woken up one morning by snow plows and staff shovelling in our car port. It's uncontrollably but just wasn't pleasant. For two evenings at 10 pm we lost both electrisity and water, without anny information from reseption both times. It was dark, cold and with no water, no use of WC, teethbrusching, it wasn`t a pleasant stay. The quality of the room and extra services are not worth the money spent on this hotel. You have to pay an extra 12euros per person for the bed sheet, and 10euros for a little bag of wood for the fire place. Also the bedroom is not quite similar to the pictures. Two single beds, not a he sane height so you can't really put them together. It is the first time I put a negative comment on booking. Disappointed to see how places can just be tourists traps. there could be some basics in the kitchen like salt sugar tea and coffee since there is restaurant on the property. Row house type of buildings next to each other with a view of the next building few meters away. Ok for one night stay. On the back side possibility to have walks in the nature. Looks fancy on pictures with a nice back drop of the fell but… surrounding not that fancy. Apartment itself basic/ good standard but don’t go with too young kids as stairway upstairs very steep. Or be careful. Overpriced for what it is. Some things in the kitchen were not very clean i.a. the stove.
