Nice quiet hotel. I was treated with my breakfast iny room at no charge, nice! After breakfast I went down to the Spa where I enjoyed the relaxing jacuzzi, steam, and sauna. All included. The water in the bath was adequately warm however not hot and I like a hot bath. Also the towel warmer wasn't working, minor issue.
Room balcony with a wonderful river view. Hotel staff is kind and helpful. Spa & sauna were clean. It was difficult to find the hotel because all sign on road show only words "Hotel". We didn't know if these signs meant this hotel or not until arrival. We booked a table for dinner when we checked in however it didn't make.
The luxe facilities and view is amazing over the douro. True design and spa hotel with very friendly and capable staff. Missing a gym for workout
Mooi ruim opgezet hotel. In etages tegen de berghelling gebouw. Erg gastvrij personeel. Goede keuken.
Great setting, cool design, helpfull staff A gym/exercise room at the hotel would be good.
the rooms have an amazing view over the river
All excellent: great views, great staff, fantastic food!
Hotel design, staff, facilities, and brilliantly relaxed atmosphere. Fairly remote. Difficult if you don't have a car. The walk from the closest train station (Aregos) is 20 mins up a very steep hill. Not nice in the plus 30 degree heat. Though the hotel said they'd send a car if I'd have called. Still, would be worth noting somewhere prior to arriving. Wouldn't put me off going again though!
Helpfulness & Friendliness of Staff. Food very good. The hairdryer
the village, staff, restaurant and service and the room
this hotel/chateau is stunning. located in a small town- wine country is a 30 min drive. very peaceful. rooms were very bright and large. great food by the pool. amazing morning breakfast we did the tasting menu at the restaurant - bit old fashioned for our tastes. they are rated- but not the best meal we had. breakfast and pool food were great. staff were very friendly and helpful. a real pleasure for us
The staff pretty much let you do things your way, and all extremely helpful when needed.
Attractive location. Great value for money, particularly with the room up-grade. Attentive and polite staff.
Large comfortable room and friendly staff.
Very good service, excellent location
Beautiful views, very friendly and helpful staff. There were a lot of seating areas in which to relax. The bar staff had good memories and the restaurant was lovely. Great breakfast. Rooms extremely comfortable. Slightly difficult to find
Beautifully set along the river in the centre of an old town. Very friendly service, good cuisine.
We loved the people who are doing the most they can for their guests enjoyment, the they were very friendly and helpfull .We got great tips for travelling in the area and we want to thank them for that. And the hotel is great' it was the highlight of our trip. that we stayed their only one night
Beautifully located in a stunning location right on the river, the hotel is modern and stylish. The view from the bedroom down the river was stunning. All the staff seemed to speak English. The pool was well equipped with modern chairs and sun loungers alongside the river with waterside bar. On a warm night dinner was served at tables beside the river, although the food didn't quite live up to the location. Breakfast was served in the large, elegant and modern restaurant and was an excellent continental breakfast with a large choice. A lovely hotel in a super location which we would consider staying at again for more than one night to enable us to take a boat trip from the hotel jetty and catch a train into Porto from the local station
Fantastic view and location Inexperience staff, old looking sheets and towels, food at the restaurante well bellow expectations
The location at an ancient Port wine harbor and the view of the Douro from the front rooms are excellent. Direct access to the water, with mooring fingers, is great for people who like kayaking or other water sports. A nice walk in the mountains, some seven kilometers away (and six kilometers long), departing from Vila de Muros, lets you visit a nice roman bridge over the Bestança river and enjoy great views.
Beautiful setting on the River, good for walking and water sports. Breakfast very good. Restaurant food only fair.
Breakfeast was very good. It takes a long trip to see the attractions nearby, due to the secondary routes to be slow.
This hotel is in a beautiful setting, right on the wateredge of the river Douro. Stunning views from the decking and balconies However, like others mention in reviews - the food was poor and unfortunately for us the breakfast was not outstanding as previously mentioned in reviews. Apart from the outstanding views the hotel was generally underwhelming.
A lovely hotel with a very welcoming atmosphere, good and cheap buffet restaurant including drinks with a great waiter! The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. The standard rooms have no adequate airconditioning, so rooms can get very hot especially on the upper floors.
Friendlyness of the staff. Difficult to find
Very nice place: calm and quiet. Since I don't have GPS its not the easiest hotel to find
Charming room, calm and quite surroundings. It was cold (late November), there was a small heater available but too noisy to switch on during the night.
The attention of the hotel staff Breakfast was served too late, it starts at 8:30 am
The staff couln't have been more helpful. The room & breakfast both excellent. The dinner was poor, left overs, puddings displayed nightly were the same. Food was overcooked, poor quality, very bad value for money.I would NOT return there unless outside facilities improved and they got a new chef. Nothing was open for us outside. They hadn't tried and I would not return. Dinner was just AWFUL. Dry meat, stringy meat, canned vegetables - very very poor. 15 euros was too much for the food. Same soup 2 nights running. Left over meat heated up; Vegetables tinned; puddings the same night after night - the same puddings not new ones. I think Health & Safety would have a field day there!
Excellent hotel. We stayed there just for one night, but we really enjoyed. If you visit the north of Portugal this is a very good place to stay. The service is outstanding. We recommend to use the restaurant. No problem to parking.
Excellent hotel with personality, quiet, 30min from Porto by car, cheap. Rich breakfast, very friendly and polite staff. Good beds, beautiful stone rooms. A bottle of wine and two small bottles of water were expecting us as a gift. Tea for free 24h. Nothing at all!
It was a lot nicer than the pictures, or the google earth view. Staff smoking.
The staff where very helpful, friendly & couldn't do enough or us. The rooms were spacious & comfortable. Breakfast was very good. The dinner represented excellent value for money as it included a pre-dinner drink & 2 bottles of wine. The dinner buffet would have been very monotonous after a couple of days.
welcoming, excellent facilities, friendly staff, excellent spa & indoor pool Canned music at breakfast! Could also be more variety of food at breakfast
Everything was relexing. Nice people. Nice place. Nice food at the breakfast. Very good! Everything was good!
Staff,rooms and food very good
We have appreciated very much the attention of all the staff. The hotel is new and we feel comfortable there. The rooms are nice and clean. The toilet is also modern and easy to use. The location is good. It is relatively far from the city and is quiet. However, it central to the Douro area and is a good starting point to visit it, including Amarante, Porto, the river Douro, etc. For those who travel in family, it is also important to say that there is a recreation park nearby, the "Bracalândia" park, which is a sort of little "Isla magica". Finally, there is also the pool in the hotel. But for more about the pool see below. The spa and pool are not exactly owned by the hotel, but it seemed to me that it belongs to another owner. The staff there is not as nice as in the hotel. I think they try to keep a quiet ambience in the in the installations, and so they react a little bit negatively to the presence of kids. Actually, there is a restricted period when the kids are allowed, which is from 10h-12h and 15h-17h. We did not know about that, and had to wait to get in! Apart that, the rest was ok.
The staff, bedroom and food. The hotel is still being done. It should be noticed what is available at the hotel information page.
Beautiful modern hotel in beautiful surroundings, will return for sure. Breakfast coffe not served at tables. I am a coffe drinker and had to get up many times just to get a cup of coffe
the room food and spa were very good. the hotel is easy to find and in walking distans from the city
The hotel is very comfortable. good breakfast.
Very nice, modern hotel, good location
We needed to leave reasonably promptly in the morning to catch a flight and the hotel were a little reluctant to begin breakfast before 7.30am
Beautiful garden, great swimming pool. Difficult to find the way to the hotel, no sign posts or directions. Not all staff speaks English.
beautiful setting, very nice owner who was very helpful it was just a shame the swimming pool had been damaged and was out of use
an old farm house, yet renovated and with very modern furnitures. very clean and highly maintained. location is a little bit far from highway, the room had 2 separate beds you could not connect together.
well placed to tour porto, doura valley etc
Location very good - close to bus station & town centre. Rooms were a bit dated and dark. Alot of noise from surrounding building works from very early in the morning.
good buffet style breakfast, value for money lack of parking
The hotel is very well located, near Sao Goncalo Church and the famous bridge. Very clean, modern rooms, great beds and a fabulous breakfast. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to visit Amarante.
Friendly helpful staff. Balcony/outside space. Breakfast selection. Proximity to town centre. Lovely fresh orange juice ! Massive long term road works right outside hotel and under our balcony. Dust, noise, some risk. We should have been informed of this prior to arrival. Ambiguous situation regarding car parking which I stressed was very important. This exacerbated by but not because of road works.
Feels dirty. Just waited for the night to be over.
The external appearance was not good being based in a scruffy shopping centre on the edge of the old town. The description of the balcony aspect was not accurate as you could not see the river at all from the balcony which was very scruffy and not worth having.
The reception staff were excellent and spoke good English. The breakfast times were extensive. The hotel was well located for a short walk into the town centre..
The location was central to all the sites in Amarante. You could walk to most everything. The starkness and drabness of the bulding and the dimly lit, chilly breakfast room.
The breakfast included was first class. The room was nicely furnished and clean. I would use the Navarras again and would recommend it to friends. No bad points. It was perfect.
Peace and quiet
Kind hotel stsff, clean, value for money No
Good location for Douro valley The town itself is pretty unattractive with very little in the way of bars and restaurants so not suitable for long stays at this hotel. The main disappointment was that there was not outside eating facilities as advertised - were told that this is only used for special occasions. The weather was glorious so it was annoying to have to eat inside. Also, the swimming pool is next to a road - screened by hedges but still noisy.
The Douro Riverside with the Bars Cool swimmingpool
Nice personal, clean, value for money No
it was short no restaurant on both evenings - kitchen said to be out of commission. Food was being served in dining room but only to Portuguese National jet-ski contestants, we were informed this food was brought in from another restaurant.
the place is quiet and peacefull
Definitely the place to be if you want to explore the mid-section of the Douro River. A very spacious place, a huge bathroom, very quiet, perfect if you are looking for a resting place Just forget about the breakfast. Choices are close to nil, and their quality is 0. No regional products, no proper scrambled eggs, no proper juices, I even got rotten (although fresh) grapes. Skip the breakfast at this hotel and get a proper breakfast at a nearby restaurant called The Gentleman
