Breakfast had a lot of salted and sweet options but it was nothing exciting nor appealing. Poor quality of the food. The need to hire a better cook.
Breakfast was quite deceving. Hotel staff did not speak English but they were helpful and allowed us to leave the luggage after check out until we left Peterhof. The worse thing was that it was nowhere explained that if you take the boat in San Petersbourg to visit the Peterhof gardens and Palace you get off the boat and get straight into the gardens, You are not allowed to cross the gardens, get out, go the the hotel, leave the luggage and get into the palace again unless you buy another ticket to get into the gardens and palace again. So we spent the day in Peterhof walking around with our suitcases which was awful. If you stay in the Samson Hotel you must get to Peterhof by taxi or train but NEVER by boat !!!
Great location for the palace & gardens
The location is AWESOME, right across from the Upper garden entrance to the Peterhof palace site. The hotel is in a historical building, very much fitting into the historical architectural landscape. I liked the room and the bathroom, all bath trinkets, towels and robes were provided. The bed was of average comfort, typical for Russian hotels. Dinner at the restaurant downstairs was great, there's a person who grills right there as well. However, breakfast was disappointing. My fav crepes with cottage cheese were not at all tasty and cold. Next morning, they were out of coffee 30 mins before the end of breakfast time - and didn't bother to refill the coffee machine, despite of multiple people asking. Their breakfasts are staffed with all young kids, probably interns, and even the hotel front desk frowned when I asked them about those. So they know it is a problem, but the hotel management doesn't do anything about it. Also, the same restaurant that pleased me so for dinner, has disappointed me for lunch next day; they said they only have drinks and grill because they were "serving a group of tourists". I had to seek food elsewhere. There's a Duck something restaurant and bar (pricey but ok) in a hotel next door, and also a Tokyo City restaurant a few blocks down (to get to both, exit the Samson hotel and turn right). Tokyo is quite good and open till late.
The hotel management should do something about their breakfasts. Their poor quality and staffing really negatively reflects on the hotel image.
Location Location Location Great value for money Hotel, with an exceptional location to explore petergof
Beds are not comfortable
Good accommodation at excellent location. Comfortable facilities: bed, bathroom, fridge. Good WiFi. Quite satisfactory breakfast. Reasonable price. Quiet rooms at the back, off the street.
Reception staff at check-in spoke only Russian - though was very nice. Reception staff at check-out spoke fluent English. Furniture and décor in rooms a bit drab and worn.
With a stay at Hotel Samson in Petergof (Petrodvortsovy District), you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Peterhof Palace and Garden and Upper Garden. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
