Castello Antico Hotel - Gytheio - Building
1
9.6 Excellent (397 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Castello Antico Hotel in East Mani, you'll be on the beach, within a 5-minute drive of Mavrovouni Beach and Cranae. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect - the room, the balcony, room-service, the food and especially the waiters! I loved the pool and the direct beach access! There are several good tavernas in walking distance, even to Gytheio it was only a 1h15 walk ... And I enjoyed a lot to have freshly squeezed orange juice every morning .... the breakfast was just great!
Cons: There were little things - first I was a little bit disappointed that the hotel site was very narrow and long, but that was only because it looked different on the pictures in booking.com. The pool hours are from 11 am to 19 h ..... I would have liked to be able to do a morning swim before breakfast but as the breakfast area is right next to the pool that might be unpractical. And the breakfast selection reduced during the time of our stay, that was a little bit disappointing.... but overall it was a perfect vacation!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Feather pillows and great sheets; large, enclosed shower (water stayed where it was supposed to be); quiet rooms; great beach out front; delicious breakfast and dinners; central location to so many sights (Monemvasia, Mystras/Sparta, Limeni etc...) and only a few minutes to Gythio
Cons: It would have been great to have coffee/tea in room or available by the pool outside of breakfast hours
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, secluded beach area.
Cons: Cant think of a thing to complain about or suggest.
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent (453 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Planning an event in Monemvasia? This hotel has facilities measuring 1076 square feet (100 square meters), including a meeting room. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great staff. Comfortable small size. This is not a giant resort with hundreds of rooms , but a cosy small, but modern place. Restaurant was quite good and not particularly expensive.
Cons: Subpar gym. With such a location it would have made sense to put the gym somewhere with windows — not in a windowless basement with poor ventilation. Also the pool is small.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel in modern design with very friendly and professional staff. The breakfast buffet was really good. Two small but very nice sandy and clean beaches next to the hotel. Very quiet at night. Very well lit room, effective and silent air conditioning. Free and sufficient parking. Surprise gift at check-out. The location requires having a car and several interesting destinations for day trips in the wider area. Bikes availabe to go to local shop and restaurants.
Cons: Only some small details. The electronic light switches sometimes did not work. Very good light-proof curtains but a rather bright night light at the door that cannot be switched off, so the room cannot be completely darkened. Noisy mini bar fridge. Unnecessarily small shower cubicle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very beautiful view on the sea
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Book this hotel based on the reviews and location. We were heading off to Elafonisos and since our flight was arriving in the evening, we would have miss our last ferry to the island. What a pity that it was only for a one night stay ! We arrived at the hotel at about midnight. Check in was quick and the lady at the reception escorted us to our rooms and there was a porter which assisted us with our bags. As we were really tired, we headed off to bed immediately. Explore the hotel the next morning. It was stunning. BEAUTIFUL view of the sea from our balcony and there is also a swimming pool. It was a real pity that we could stay for only one night. I would certainly love to try their spa and their facilities. Breakfast selection was good and all staff were really friendly. They even offer us a gift before were depart. A bag of goodies which contains a bottle of olive air and orange marmalade. Will definitely visit this hotel again.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location with really good facilities and an easy going atmosphere.
Cons: Adjoining door to next door meant there was quite a bit of noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Boutique style resort on the beach. 37 to 40 rooms?suites, all facing the see. We had a senior suite traveling with our teenage daughter. We had a slight issue in our bedroom with the blackout curtains letting daylight on the sides of the windows with a space of about 4 cms. After the first night, I spoke about it to reception wondering if they could find a solution as these 4 cm were enough to flood the room with light, waking me up earlier than I wish. That evening, the problem was solved :-) I must mention the staff was really friendly, working from breakfast to dinner and around the pool and remembering our preferences quickly. Fortis was especially helpful and kind to us. The resort is open from mid-march to end of October with June to September being fully booked so being here mid-October was blissful: No hassle to get a spot anywhere.
Cons: The room are smaller than expected but nicely laid out so was not really a concern and the size of the large balcony made up for it nicely.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: extreemly kind staff, very welcoming, nice resort, nice beach area, not too big hotel, which I prefere
Cons: the beach was a rocky area, you could only excess the sea with a leader, but still nice

Pros: Nice and warm host. He gave us recommendations where to eat. Very good facilities with amazing view to Monemvasia. There is 500m. walk to the main street but it is not a problem. Enough space for parking the car at the premises.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: The hotel is very comfortable and clean. There is an amazing view of the old town and the sea. We saw many beautiful sunrises. Evening on the balcony is also very enjoyable. It has its own parking lot.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, great view
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view to Monemvasia is exceptional. The property is quiet and the facilities were excellent. The breakfast served outside of the room, to enjoy the view, was excellent. There is a choice of pleasant beaches 3-4 kms south.
Cons: Any negatives are being very picky, it is quite a long (15 minutes) walk to the restaurants on the mainland, (3 minutes by car) but you have the peace and the view at the property (you can have everything!) It is a similar distance to get the shuttle bus to the old city on the island - the bus is probably the most convenient way to get to the old city.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything good: parking, room, balcony, wifi, breakfast.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: nice pool and easy access to the sea lovely view food was ok - bit over faced by breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location very friendly staff.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved the family who owned the Annema Hotel. Nicco spent a lot of time telling us the history of the area - from Odysseus, to WW2 and the present day. This gave us a real sense of context for the place, the people and for our visit to the rock of Monemvasia (which we could see from our room). We liked the peace and quiet, the view - the feeling of serenity. That we were able to eat there. Swim in the sea and in a pool (which had a great shower).
Cons: No hooks for towels etc in shower by pool.

Pros: In one Word : Magic place at a very affordable price, extremely magic place, build with the highest standards of quality and elegance in the middle of a sea of centennal olive trees. Family hotel with a very warm and high sense of traditional hospitality combined with the highest comfort standards ever experienced. One of the top hôtels I've stayed in 40 years of worldwide tavels. Very refined and amazing breakfast composed of local meals and high quality ingrédients.
Cons: nothing at all
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Most awesome place on our travel so far. The friendliness and helpfulness of the host family, the attention to detail and good taste in the rooms and on the whole premise are unmatched. Wish we had had a longer stay there. 100% recommendation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the views are spectacular! that was the first impression then came the warm welcome. Pierre and Antigonie are really special host. very hospitable, very knowledgeable about the area... then came the facility, it is all about the details, the architecture of the hotel has been very well thought, despite being an hotel we hardly saw any other guest. the materials choosen for the construction were beautiful, cut stones, beautiful walls, and inside the rooms, great beds, and beautiful bed sheets. honestly one of the most homely place I have been in years. We did not unfortunately had diner there, shame, because when we had our breakfast, we realised we should have. the breakfast will convince you (if you were not already convince) that you should have stayed one extra nights,
Cons: that I only book one night there.... that I really did not like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything! The property is a beautiful building in a stunning, peaceful location. We were greeted with delicious homemade juice and with such friendliness. It felt like we were being welcomed into their home. The staff always had time for a chat, friendly word and offers of help and yet were still able to deliver a timely and excellent service. All the food was of a very high quality, delicious, locally and responsibly sourced and beautifully presented. We felt so relaxed during our entire stay and will never forget the meals we ate under a beautiful evening sky in utter peace and tranquility or the breakfasts on the terrace with the stunning views across the countryside to the mountains with only the sounds of the swallows and the scent of the lavender from the garden. We could not have asked for more.
Cons: There was absolutely nothing we didn’t like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superbe établissement with fantastic views over the mountains Brand new stone buildings with perfect interior The service was over the top and the prices more than reasonable The staff were unbelievably friendly and did everything in their power to make sure we had a great stay We are used to top 5 star hotels but this one is worth the detour
Cons: We loved everything The only thing missing is a swimming pool
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding in all accounts! A must see, feel, and stay there, majestic!

Pros: This place was terrific. Last 3 nights before leaving... had been 2, but we added a night because it was so nice. CocoMat bed! Sooooooo comfortable. Really it was perfect; as we had a car, being a couple of minutes out of town was nice because it very peaceful. 2nd floor room with king bed perfect balcony, kitchenette, loft with 2 twin beds (unused) (room “Faskomilo” which is sage in Greek). Aesthetic is ‘traditional cottage’ in neutrals and exposed stone. Fresh bread in the morning, with butter & jam, all provided. And they’ll do a load of laundry for you. Close to many great sites in the Mani, as well as Monemvasia, Sparta/Mystras. Lovely beaches. Eat at Saga if your wallet lets you. BRILLIANT.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Melina was super nice and helpful! The room was cozy and very modern and warm, the kitchen was more than sufficient and the bed was very comfortable. We realy recommend staying at least a couple of nights in this relaxing hotel
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The design and decor were beautiful. The bed and bed linen were very comfortable. Melina the host was most helpful and kind. The service of the rooms was daily and efficient.
Cons: Just a few minor things like very few utensils in the kitchen, for instance no spatula or slotted spoon which made it it impossible to even fry an egg. An egg cup or two would have been nice! Just one teaspoon. Little things that would have made a difference.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I just like everything. The beautiful style, the cozy coco-mat bed, the interior, the silence around the house and the amazing hospitality. I feel very welcome and home. And it’s sparkling clean!

Pros: First off, Taki and Mihali were excellent inn keepers. Friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. The spot is gorgeous, the views extraordinary, and the room was beautiful and stylish. It was the best hotel experience I have had here in Greece. I will definitely be returning here again in the future. A very special thank you goes to Stella, who made the best breakfasts I can ever remember at a hotel. Stella baked the rolls and orange cake from scratch each day, and she used the freshest ingredients from the area (the first press olive oil of the season, herbs, even making a quince compote). She too was open and friendly when she spoke, and she made my experience even more memorable. Bravo Stella!

Pros: Breakfast on our terrace was nice and cozy. The staff was very helpful and caring.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly on arrival and the property was in very good condition
Cons: Unfortunately we stayed the 3 nights leading up to the Easter weekend. The hotel was still getting ready for the Easter weekend. We had workman in our room at 9pm still putting finally touches to our villa. The next 2 days saw lots of workman painting & decorating. We had a power cut on the 2nd morning so only a limited breakfast. For a 4* complex there was no room service or any where to purchase a drink or food after the breakfast had been served. I just feel we paid the full room rate and only received a partial. I’m sure the hotel in full season will be fantastic.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent and respectful staff, attentive to the quests and their needs, quite and nice design. I liked the breakfast prepared specially to deliver to your Bunglow. Nice beach.
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: the bathroom was rather small for the size of property but another one is going to be added this winter.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The host is wonderful. She met us at the gate to take our bags and then followed us to park the car since you can’t park inside the castle. When we left, she drove us to the car and even asked if we wanted her to pick up coffee. The location is wonderful. Very quiet near the end of the lower city. The view from the balcony is beautiful.
Cons: I wouldn’t say there was anything we didn’t like. There are things that can be perhaps be updated, but I don’t really count them as negative. The wooden window covering on the bedroom door doesn’t stay closed so it rattles in the wind. The mattress upstairs is a bit old.

Pros: There is nothing we didn’t like: the room and dining area are furnished with style, are very clean and comfortable and command an excellent position
Cons: My fault! We didn’t request help in getting our luggage to the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were welcomed from the first moment, and felt very comfortable throught out stay. Sparkling clean room, high quality towels and pillows. Breakfast had a traditional twist and was served in a cute yard. We were lucky to be offered an upgrade and a late checkout, free of charge, due to off season visit, but it shows the character of the owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is part of the ancient Monemvasia old town, and is well integrated into the fairy tale decor. The owners and their workers did a very good job! The room was perfectly clean, and has nice touches of decoration. The bathroom is a little bit small, but is also very clean. Breakfast was ok. Plan your luggage accordingly, take only what you need for the night, it is not easy to transport your luggage on the cobbled stones in the old city. There is possible to hire a luggage carrier, the hotel staff is able to assist.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a beautiful room with a fantastic sea view, the evening breeze kept it nice and cool. The location was great, close to all the restaurants but incredibly quiet as well. Everyone at the hotel was very welcoming and friendly. I’m gluten intolerant which the hotel were fantastic about even getting me some gluten free bread for breakfast. We will definitely be recommending to friends.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice double room, ideal for 2 friends who want separate rooms, or young familes. Our host was so nioce and helpful, very easily accessible! Amazing location, within the medieval castle of Monemvasia, with great bars and restaurants around. It's also very convenient, as it is very close to the entrance to the castle, so you don't need to carry the luggage long. Tip: when you enter the castle-town, don't walk too much inside to reach the hotel, it's not far!
Cons: Parking in Monemvasia is a problem in high season - but not a problem special to this hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location in the old town of Monemvasia but not too far from the main gate. Just down a few stairs and you were on the main strip of shops and restaurants. We had the two bedroom apartment which had nice views particularly the top bedroom and each level had its own fridge, air conditioning and bathroom.
Cons: Nothing. But keep in mind that there is no car access and you may need to park a fair way down the road outside the walls. Still worth it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, comfortable and large room
Cons: Very limited facilities
7.5 Good

We even had a view of Monemvasia from the property from our balcony which was lovely. Area is a little out of the town (3min run/8 min walk into the mainland town of Monemvasia) and is in a quiet area.
Cons: Loved it all. A kettle would be nice in the room.

Pros: We received warm welcome from the house owner who gave us a warm hug and prepare afternoon tea when we arrived. The view is very good from our room and can see sunrise in the morning. The breakfast is great and we didn't expect it was included.
Cons: If Google map location can be provided through email beforehand will be excellent.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The only posite side was the kindness of Katerina
Cons: The manager was rude, when asking about changing room he did not propose a solution but complained about the choice of the room. Breakfast was poor : always same and recicled day after day. Shower of the room too tiny and uncomfortable. No map available! Last but not least, staff did not speak english at all..it was frustrating asking something and never be understood.

Pros: Excellent hosts and also was the breakfast that could be eaten outdoor :). And in the homeland of olives (Greece) I got olives at the breakfast. Welldone!
Cons: Nothing. The only thing that could be improved was the weather: the wind was strong 7 days in a row :(
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast and very friendly staff.
Cons: During the first days of our stay the water in the swimming pool was not clean, last two days the pool was refreshed.

7.0 Good
Pros: The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The location in the heart of Monemvasia. The breakfast is quite consistent and diversified (beware of the cats though !)
Cons: The room is quite small and thus can be slightly stifling if you don't open the windows. The cleaning could be a bit more thourough, especially under the bed. The drain cap was going off and letting a really bad smell in the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a wonderful experience staying in this beautiful historic property in an amazing part of the world! The property was very well located, just a short stroll to the swimming platform and easy to pop up to the restaurants and main shopping area.
Cons: The breakfast could be improved.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Feral cats everywhere!
6.7 Good
Pros: It is really nice to stay in Monemvasia itself, because in the evening/night it becomes very special to walk around there and have a drink watching the sea. Good breakfast. Clean room.
Cons: Very small room, felt claustrophobic. Also the bathroom is really small. Our door was directly next to the breakfast area, which felt a bit weird in the morning. Also our outside seating area (very small) was next to the breakfast terrace, so people wanted to sit there.
