Overview

In the heart of the Royal City of Loches, the Best Western Premier Hotel de la Cite Royale, Loches, France, fills a recently renovated former Palace of Justice, a four-star where contemporary, refined rooms keep elements of the old courthouse, about forty-five minutes from Tours and under two hours from Paris. A heated indoor pool with hydromassage jets, a relaxation area with a hammam and two treatment rooms, and a restaurant with a terrace serving regional cooking round out the stay. The central setting puts the old town right at the door. Loches is one of the great fortified towns of the Loire, its medieval Cite Royale climbing to a towering 11th-century keep and the royal lodge where Joan of Arc urged Charles VII toward Reims and where Agnes Sorel once held court, with the chateaux of the Loire valley, the Forest of Loches, and the wine villages of the Indre close by. From the ramparts the old roofs fall away to the river below.
