Overview

The Smokehouse Lodge and Cabins are nestled within a warm and rustic setting with up-to-date conveniences for a comfortable guest stay. In 1960, Jim Oliver started with a small eatery, purchased a historic restaurant on the street and reclaimed it. His children run the family business located on Monteagle Mountain, including its 85-room lodge, 20 rustic log cabins, and a conference center for meetings. Located on 20 acres of recreational area, it hosts an Old General Store with antiques and old-fashioned products. The popular Smokehouse Restaurant serves home-made meals and features traditional old smoke style meats.

The campus includes a pool, a pond, and a kid’s zone with fun games and activities for all ages. Fishing poles and bicycle rentals are available for surrounding hiking and biking trails.

Accommodations at the Smokehouse include its secluded hideaway cabins, but still located within walking distance to the restaurant and the lodge. All cabins offer living rooms, separate bedroom and bath, kitchen, Jacuzzi tubs, outdoor porches, and fireplaces. Its lakeside cabins feature blue limestone slate enclosed Jacuzzi tubs, refrigerator, microwave, mini bar, front porches with rockers, among many additional upgrades.

The Smokehouse Lodge rooms include wireless internet access, hairdryers, iron and board, and a coffee maker. The king room upgrade amenities include a business desk and extra space.

The popular Smokehouse Restaurant serves home style meals from generational recipes. It offers Music On The Mountain featuring acoustic music shows on the weekend complimentary to all guests.

With an abundance of outdoor activities and sights to explore, the Smokehouse offers families, couples, or the business traveler a perfect choice stay in Monteagle.

Okay
Sandy, May 2020
Pros (+) Bare minimum accommodations. Budget hotel
Cons (-) Rooms very outdated. Smelled strong tobacco in a "non smoking" room.

Pros (+) Close to nice trails and right off the interstate.
Cons (-) It is more rustic lodge style. Like sit on a picnic table outside your room type of place.

Deedee, Jun 2017
Pros (+) Their restaurant and 'country store' are directly next door. The restaurant has live music, good food. The motel room has been refurbished and beds are comfortable. The staff in all locations of the lodge we visited were friendly and courteous.
Cons (-) Although the rooms have been refurbished, the bathrooms have not been. Older utilities with some water damage to the aging wallpapered walls. The shower head is set low, so you have to either squat down to get under it or position the head pointing straight out and move to stand in front of it.

Pros (+) The rooms were nice, the amenities are fantastic
Cons (-) The power went out at 8:30p and didn't come back on until 5am. No one came to check on us and our 4 children. We used up all our phone batteries using the lights and had to sleep with no A/C in a room with a window that didn't open.

Pros (+) The rustic atmosphere
Cons (-) The cleanliness especially of bathrooms

Okay
Anonymous, Mar 2016
Pros (+) How large the room was & comfy the beds were. We were also placed in a room between two Other rooms that had guests staying with dogs which were barking & scratching. We called the front desk & were immediately offered another room. Also, the restaurant next door was cool. Good food & prices!
Cons (-) We found a few pieces of long dark on one of the beds & looks like a used bar of soap in the shower. Also, when we first arrived, the front desk and check in process was slightly awkward & silent, staff wasn't very friendly or talkative, no music was playing. Didn't feel very welcoming or comfortable.
