The Morgantown Hotels The Scholar Hotel Morgantown is located only a block from the West Virginia University Main Campus and less than two miles from Mountaineer Field. The hotel is three miles from the Morgantown Municipal Airport and a block from a convenient Personal Rapid Transit station for access to the rest of Morgantown, West Virginia. It offers 41 non-smoking, air-conditioned rooms and suites for guests.
Each guestroom at The Scholar Hotel features comfortable beds with plush bedding and a large work desk with easily accessible power outlets. Guests have access to complimentary high-speed Internet access, Keurig coffee makers, a mini-fridge, and 55” LCD flat-screen televisions. Pros (+) Very comfortable with contemporary flair. Room size was very spacious. Very clean with a friendly and helpful staff. Close in proximity to many restaurants and nightlife.
Pros (+) The staff were simply amazing, friendly, efficient, everything you could ask for. Rooms were clean and spacious. Loved the big stand-alone shower.
Cons (-) Pod coffee machines by the elevators were ok, but the "continental breakfast" was pre-packaged pastries and awful. Get a cup of coffee and go somewhere for breakfast.
Pros (+) the creature comforts were excellent. It has an artsy interior that made me feel quite comfortable. The location is great and near many Morgantown eateries and bars. Just overall a good feel of the place -- room and lobby. Complimentary soaps, shampoos, etc. seemed to be top notch.
Cons (-) A few things could improve this hotel: 1. plusher towels -- a boutique/spa hotel should have thicker towels. 2. breakfast was rather sparse and not very healthy. Pros (+) Not much frankly. The website is great, looks like a high quality boutique hotel, but it's nothing close. I really wanted to feel it was a good place because my daughter is heading there to WVU for college, this year. But the hotel and immediate area gave me the feeling I was in a gang neighborhood. Fortunately the rest of Morgantown is nicer closer to the college and the waterfront.
Cons (-) The hotel was dark and gloomy, and seemed dirty, as we're the rooms. It appears newer and modern in the website but it's very dated. There was no room service, staff at the front desk were droll and not friendly or very helpful.
