The hotel location was great- right on the water, you could see it across the bay when you got off the ferry. However, you need to have a car or scooter; otherwise you need to take a cab back and forth from the hotel to Portoferraio. The hotel was very nice- staff was helpful, pool and grounds were great. Breakfast was excellent for an Italian hotel. One thing we (young American couple) noticed was most of the guests were older German people on vacation. It wasn't a big problem, and perhaps it was because we were there mid-week, but we didn't see any other young couples the entire time we were there. Aside from that (and that is a minor complaint at best), we had a nice stay and couldn't have asked for much more, particularly for the price.
The breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.
elegant hotel in a beautiful park with own beach, calm, although with some young couples with little children.Careful personnal and rich breakfast buffet ! Hotel is grossly overpriced due to its own beach, although the facilities (toilet and showers) badly need total restoration!! Nearby restaurants are at least 20/30 minutes walk so you either drive (and don't drink) or eat at home - we walked
good location (close to the main town). nice piano bar for a sunset drink not very nice beach: stones instead of sand. too pricy (drinks start at 9€), our room as over the kitchen which was quite noicy in the morning. tennis court pretty bad quality. food is very good but still mass production
The restaurant staff were exceptional. The Manager on duty was somewhat brash and had a difficult attitude.
The location is absolutely stunning and the staff very friendly. Everything is made so that guests don't want leave the resort and it's fair to say everyone can find a little bit of what they want. We really had a wonderful stay. I do think that the rooms located in the hotel need a refurbishment - the style is dated and I felt that for the price, one could expect a more contemporary, stylish and luxurious decor and feel.
It is in a peaceful area, and close enough to Portoferraio so that you can go into town at night if you want - if you are willing to pay for a taxi or have a car. It is very well serviced by public transportation - hardly at all in fact - so that if you want to go out to eat or head out at night, you have to pay for an expensive taxi ride both ways, or rent a car or moped. The hotel itself is fairly nice, although definitely not a 4 star hotel as it is advertised. It has a nice pool and a good breakfast.
Pool area was really wonderful, as well as breakfast on the terrace Unfortunately, my husband was covered in Bed Bug bites after the first night. I don't feel that the hotel was dirty, just bad luck I guess
It was quiet and relaxing and Management was very helpful in assisting our travel arrangements from their hotel to Roma. Lack of air conditioning at night. The bed was very uncomfortable and we asked for it to be changed and it wasn't. This made our stay disappointing because of lack of sleep. When we arrived the check in staff didn't explain to us that we had to reserve a table each day for the evening meal, this was explained to us on the second night we were there and this made us feel uncomfortable, however they did accommodate us in the resturant.
Location, grounds and swimming pool. Only stayed on B&B basis. Receptionist (female) was rude on arrival. Air conditioning in room allocated did not work - changed room after some persistence. Room furnishings not 4 star standard.
We both liked the situation of the Hotel together with the choice of beach or good size pool. It would have been an ideal base from which to explore the island if we had more time but overall we enjoyed our stay with you. Gracie
This hotel was in no way of 4* quality The room was very basic and the hotel was too far away from the centre.
Cleaniness and comfort of the room The beach was not a natural one and the staff were rather "off hand" at times although this did not appear true for the guests that they knew better and who were staying longer
It was superb. I was driving around Tuscany with no reservations for hotel stays and they were very accommodating. The hotel was beautiful.
close to the port, not noisy, not expensive I did not like food in this hotel. We had half board that was very bad decision.
Hotel Villa Ombrosa overlooks a pebble beach, with over the road, it's own area with deck chairs and sunshades.Very helpful cleaning and breakfast staff. A room without a view at the back is quieter than the front with the view. The lift goes from behind the stairs. I had to leave.
The view from our seaside balcony was amazing, and the choices of foods in the dining room were simply delicious!
Friendly hotel, near centre of town, quite good food. Rooms giving on to the back garden have no balcony, no view and are somewhat dull. Try to avoid them. The hotel "beach" consists of two long concrete steps over the rocks and water, packed with deck chairs. There a re far more fun, sandy beaches elsewhere on the island.
The fantastic position of the Hotel in fron of the sea with ver nice views on the landascape
The view of our room was outstanding
Location Musty smell at the entrance. Mould on the ceiling and walls in the room. Cramped bathroom. Does not warrant 4 star status. Over priced. Complete hotel lacking in general maintenance.
The location of the hotel is amazing! The staff were very poliate and helpfull (the only service working people in Italy that smiles and help you AND speak english I think :) ) Everything was perfect The hotel was more or less perfect. The only small negative thing is the road from the hotel to the center of the city (4min walk)..We did not feel safe walking there. But the hotel and Porto Azzuro and Elba is very recomended!
view from our window
The restaurant was very good (a la carte at least). Very clean rooms. Could have good sea view but we had tree view. Very poor children facilities and the beach was unuseable. Car was a must.
Position was excellent.
Lovely swimming pool which was pretty quiet during the day as everyone seemed to go out on day trips. We had a big balcony at the far side at the top so it was quiet and we had a great view. Nice restaurant but book your table during the day for the evening. Last boat from Portoferraio was 6.30pm. There was only one restaurant in Maggazini which belonged to the hotel so no choice but the restaurant was lovely and had great live music one evening. Rooms are very basic so it was expensive for what you got.
Everything was great! We liked it a lot. Especially the stuff was friendly and very helpful. The location is about a few steps by the sea, so we felt the sea breeze with hearing the waves all the time. Nothing.
Very nice staff, gorgeous location, decent to excellent food, clean rooms, value for money, peace and quiet, a pleasant pool with lots of loungers, and some enchanting ducksin the yacht harbour who liked to dine with us - the restaurant is on the quayside. They were all drakes, except for one female who turned up one day with three ducklings. There were also two quite seperate ducks from that lot, a black one and a white one, who were clearly deeply in love, were always together and performed an intricate mating neck waving ritual every now and then. So as well as a lovely setting there were things going on! And then there were the other guests. Not really, although maybe thehotel might run the occasional minibus to town should there be punters wanting to use it. Travelling by boat to Portoferraio was terrific, and takes about 30 minutes, but the day the weather stopped it coming (too choppy) presented a problem for non car users like us, But the hotel did take us and others to town in their mini bus so they solved the difficulty. The location is OK during the day for getting to and from, but if you take half board, have lunch, and decide to eat in townin the evening - because there are loads of nice places - getting back means a taxi,....and even a car would not help because one woudl be insane to drink and drive on Elba's roads. The island needs a better bus service actually.
Quiet but central location and stunning views - being right by the sea. Reception staff and our waiter exceptional nice. The dining room which needed suttle lighting given stunning views and more willingness to allow resident guests to sit outside on the terrace [although we were 'allowed to'].Candles inside and out would give perfection to the setting. Maitre d could be friendlier.Perhaps a proper Bar with sitting area would have been good.
Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was simple but fresh. Sea view was beautiful. It was a little chilly at night and the room wasn't heated, or at least I couldn't get the radiators to work. Staff did provide an extra blanket though! Also, not the hotel's fault, but there are no buses and the taxi collectivo is infrequent. Standard taxi costs over 20 euros to Portoferraio from Magazzini and there is no way to walk.
Above all I liked the perfect location close to the sea and the very friendly and good staff. Also the hotels pools were nice. No
The beautiful sea bathing with easy access to La Paduella beach through the hotel garden. No fresh brioche at breakfast.
was clean , free parking , big terrace, flower poor breakfast, cost rooms
The hotel offers a very relaxed atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, wide selction of breakfast items and a convenient location. The soundproofing between rooms was somewhat lacking. The noises included the hair-dryer, the extraction fans and the flush from neighbouring bathrooms. The room were a little damp.
Fantastic staff! Okey breakfast but would be better with some eggs and less sweets. THE BEDS!!! We could feel every spring in our beds. Buy bed topp or change the beds.
The room has a nice terrace with sea view The interior design of room and corridors need to be upgraded. TV needs to be changed
The multi-lingual staff were most helpful and the services enabled a comfortable and relaxing stay. I had to book a double room which was expensive for one but it was clean, comfortable, well air conditioned and had a balcony.
Hotel is near the seashore and near the city center There isn't a "real" shower box: you just have 3 movable plastic walls on the bathroom floor.
Excellent location. Great ambience. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Less than 1km from ferry. Parking may be difficult in high season, but was not for us in October.
It was fine for the price. Facilities were basic but got a good nights sleep
Excellent seaside hotel. Close to beach but also convenient for town, port and bus station which enabled us to visit other towns on the island.
The location was excellent, one block from the beach. Park across the street. Staff was excellent, very friendly. The breakfast was good.
We liked the size of the rooms and the proximity to the beach.
The friendly helpfulness of the staff The bathroom was too small to accommodate a person and a shower comfortably.
Very nice rooms. Quiet at night. Parking facilities could have been better, but we knew that.
The room was very small. The "sea view" from the terrace was actually a small glimpse - quite misleading. The smell of baking woke me up at 5.00am each day.
The staff were superb and professional. Clean rooms, swimming pool area and bar. Overall quite nice.
Everything! The staff was amazingly nice and helpful, the facillites were immaculate and the stay was relaxing and beautiful. The food was amazing, the dinner and breakfast were just incredible! Would definitely stay there again-cant wait to go back!!
Classic old building in lovely countryside location. Very nice pool area. The beach (associated with the hotel) was nice, but absolutely packed in August, and cost 40 euros for a family of 4 per day!! The 'Dependance' part of the hotel was a very disappointing, modern building, not deserving of any stars. The food was a poor to average daily buffet, disappointing when the web site describes their gourmet chef. Rooms could do with decorating, and upgrading (we had ants in both rooms).
The pool area is nice Booking.com and hotel website advertise free hotel shuttle bus to a private beach but you have to pay €20 per day! There is no parkland near the hotel for walking/hiking. The internet access is €5 and the food is very average. The hotel even have the lights turned off a lot of the time to save money. When we were checking in children were running wild throwing cushions around the lobby area and nobody intervened. I went to the desk to ask about doing a dive as the hotel advertise an arrangement with a local dive company. The information in the room was all in Italian/German. The guy at the desk told me to read the information in the room and then ring the dive company myself!
Relaxed atmosphere, and somewhat cooler than the heat below in Portferraio at sea-level. Quiet. There was an hourly bus service from outside the hotel to the town below, where connections with other buses were available for island-wide travel [I did not take my car on the ferry and was very pleased with local transport]. Nothing in particular. However would be useful to have internet, as public facility didn't exist.
Swimming pool, location Communication between the front desk employees is terrible. We did not have light/airconditioning for 1 night, while they promissed us to repair this.
hotel has a private beach with allocated parking useful with children as the beaches were extremely packed and no parking available Room only had shower which trickled out with water. Quite poorly maintained. The hotel looking tatty but clean enough. Breakfast was cold buffet only with pastries and toast. some fruit but found some to be rotten!.
Nice environment--secluded. The restaurant is great-maitre'd is excellent. Other than that, I would never stay here again. Not a 4 star hotel. Needs a major upgrade. Too expensive for amenities-- we got only 2 small bars of soap for a 3 night stay. Felt that we were ripped off cost-wise and very disappointed about the stay--except for the dinners, which were very good. Would never stay here again due to high cost and lack of any service as well as the condition of the room.
The hotel is located in a beautiful park. Very quiet and the hotel pool was OK. The reception staff was very courteous. The hotel is certainly not a 4 star hotel. The furniture and the service were just 3 * (or lower) worthy . (Pool was not served breakfast buffet stingy) The wireless internet did not work.
The Staff was outstandingly nice and helpful. They accomodated all of our requests -they even kept the restaurant open after hours just for us, as we checked-in late and were too late for normal dinner hours. The rooms were nice and the bathroom was especially fancy and spacious. But then again, the reason why I would return was definitely the outstanding courteousness of the service!
I can stay plesantly thanks to kind consideration of all staffs. Here is a little bit far from port without car, but they arranged to see off. There is car & bike rental service not writing in HP. The Madam managed breakfast and dinner, they are high-level and good service. The price is high because of high season. But I can communicate with the people of front, restaurant, cleaning staff etc, I can enjoy stay as a result.
The staff were extremely nice and the grounds were beautiful. The location and transportation options. I thought it was going to be closer to the beach. If we didn't have a vehicle there is no way we would have stayed.
Only view Very bad food and service in restaurant
View from Hotel was very good, pool facilities good, location was 20mins from port in Portefarrio Dinner was nice but expensive for it was. Price per person was expensive compared to other restaurants of similar standard. It was very handy though!
Being situated in a remote area makes it necessary to have a car in order to get around.
beautiful location, peaceful, nice swimming pool, the view, however, is blocked by the overgrown trees and bushes our rooms were very simple, they did not look like the ones in the brochure, they were clean but definitely not 4 star quality
The location provided us with a lovely vista accross the coastline. The atmosphere was very relaxing and while the hotel was a little old fashioned, it still retained alot of the charm and class. A car is absolutely essential!! The rooms are dotted around the complex rather than attached to the main building...which suits some people and not others. The room was a bit musty but that was down to the fact that the season was just starting. Overall, little to complain about.
The hotel has a wonderful position in the hills overlooking Portoferraio Bay, a good swimming pool and facilities and a very good restaurant The rooms are not large for the rates charged and the air-conditioning is inefficient.
The hotel was relaxing, the staff attentive however not intrusive, and the meals very enjoyable. We visited with our 6 year old son - he enjoyed the pool, my wife the spa, and I the mountain bikes provided by the hotel. The hotel was ideally located on island for us with convenient access to the best beaches, mountains, and other island activities.
We stayed 4 nights at the hotel on a half board basis and found it to be a very good 4 star standard. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner was excellent with wines at reasonable prices and a wide choice of food. The leasure facilities were excellent - both the beach and the pool areas. Hotel location not great - not easy to walk to other places - and the room & balcony were both smallish although it was described as a junior suite with sea view.
Couldn't really tell if Americans were generally welcome here, but had a wonderful time nonetheless. I knew nothing about the island of Elba, but my girlfriend and I were visiting Italy for the first time and wanting a break from the city and discovered Elba during our research. Overall, the experience of being there was pretty majestic. I liked the private beach access, the pool, cleanliness, and the views around it. We would return, if welcome. The receptionist at the front desk was not all that welcoming.
Great view from room (if you have sea facing room), room was very clean & a good size (even with a baby cot added). Two nice swimming pools & some childrens play equipment for small kids. Beach area is nice (even though not much sand area) but plenty of decking and sun chairs & small bar area. Helpful, friendly staff & there's a nice village nearby with market/small village style shops & plenty of places to eat. Food at hotel was average but we were there the last week of the season so I think they were winding down?. We're glad we hired a car as nothing is really within walking distance (though I think this is the case wherever you stay on Elba). Overall - great stay!
The view was lovely Parking is inconvenient -- up the hillside. Food choices were too limited -- one restaurant and dinner was only a 5 course meal at a prix fixe -- if you are not ravenous, you would have to overpay, or find another restaurant (which we did). Personnel was inflexible. Also did not like tour buses.
Very good localisation, nice sea view bad mattress too hard and not so comfortable
The scenery was gorgeous The pools were too cold to use. heat them!! And the price was a bit spendy. You are basically paying for the view. The dinner was alot of money for what you got.
Restaurant staff were excellent. Location was perfect. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. They were like sleeping on a brick floor. I like a firm mattress but this was way beyond firm.
The Staff where extremely friendly and gave great recommendations on places to eat and visit. The private beach/decking is great with a good beach side restaurant. A really nice place to relax and unwind.
The hotel was good - it doesn't have a great deal of individual character but we had a junior suite with an absolutely stunning view over the water. The room was huge, extremely clean and perfectly comfortable, service was efficient and friendly and the hotel beach and swimming platform was lovely. The meal times are quite early, so although we paid for half-board we didn't eat dinner at the hotel. I think this hotel is great for a couple who are looking for a lovely quiet escape, or for a family... in our case we would have liked a little more choice in terms of nearby restaurants and bars. Highly recommend having your own transport if you stay here.
its in a very beautiful place very quite , romantic and clean . the rooms are very nice airconditioner working , tv LCD but mostly of the channels are payperview . food and breakfast good a bit expensive . some waiters need to learn how to talk to costumers because its an expensive place and they do not treat you well for what you pay . there who i forgot the name he seems to be the owner of the hotel very rude with a fake smile , the only reason they work there is because there are costumers who can afford the price to be there, so they need to respect more the costumer , some come to you speaking an English they do not ask if we speak Italian , a bit weird for me .
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice garden, great terrace for breakfast and dinner. Although we were a couple, it was nice to be among a lively atmosphere of Italian families with small children. Our room was very small, and somehow managed to be hotter than it was outside. No way to ventilate without opening the door, and losing our privacy. I knew the room would be small, but since it was so hot, it became oppressive and sometimes it was impossible to sleep.
If you walk to the hotel from the port where Moby ferries dock (as opposed to taking a cab), be prepared for an uphill journey! Signs to the hotel disappear after you leave the commerical streets. Turn left at the park and start the ascent past all the other hotels. Villa Padulella is all the way up the hill. The hotel front is beautiful, with an abundance of brightly-colored potted plants. The shower was a curtain on a plastic floor-track. It did not trap the water and the entire bathroom floor was soaked if you took a shower that lasted more than five minutes.
Nothing Man in reception didnt speak english. Room was lets say very sporty. It was for the first time in my life when I said: "no, and then go to another hotel". I paid one night for canceling my reservation. It was still cheaper than to stay.
Located just outside the city and close to the beach. Fantastic view from the room/balcony on the 2nd floor. Good breakfast. Nice staff and service. Aircondition was shot off 1am to 6am making the room too hot to sleep in this time of the year. When opening the doors to the bacony to get some air/wind in the room at night the was quite a lot of noice from cars/scooters etc.
Friendly staff, cleanliness of room, car park facilities, views from hotel room, within walking distance to capital. Shower cubicle needs updating
