Pros: Everything, room, onsen, free massage chair, foot bath, ambience, staff service, dinner and breakfast. If is worth spending a night in Hanamaki just because of Yusen Shidate. I have been to many highly rated Ryokan, this is certainly one of the best. However do note that I went on a autumn weekday which wasn't crowded. Special mention to Wada who took care of our dinner serving, she is most patience in explaining each dish even though English was not her primary language.
Cons: Nothing, everything is perfect.
Cons: A bit of remote location but the shuttle bus is quite frequent.

Pros: good onsen (hot springs) quality, good meal, good location
Pros: We chose the dinner and breakfast option. Both were beautiful and plentiful. The staff were all excellent and outstanding. Everything was scenic and relaxing.
Cons: Somewhat expensive but definitely worth it.
Pros: Everything exceeded our expectations. My wife rates it 15 out of 10 and would not question staying again. Everything from the escort to your room, who also prepares you tea and a snack. To the 5 course Michelin star level dinner served in your private room. The hot springs had indoor and outdoor options that gave an amazing view to soak away everything. The staff was very attentive and took care of every small detail. When they noticed we had limited japanese they used a translator to make sure we were taken care of.
Cons: So relaxing I didnt get photos.
Pros: great service and atmosphere
Cons: great service
Pros: Wow, this place was more than amazing. All the facilities and staff were first class, and we had an experience to remember. From start to finish we felt as through we were welcome like a home.
Cons: Not much to say, only being from a foreign background it may not be to everyone's expectation. But as someone who enjoys trying new things, as well as anything Japanese, this hotel was fantastic.
Pros: Food and hospitality were outstanding. Minor details considered and for non Japanese speaking, still easy to communicate. So close to airport that makes a very easy weekend get away.
Cons: An additional outdoor onsen pool would have been nice.

Pros: The staff was very jovial, friendly and helpful. Everyone went out of their way to make sure that we have everything we need. They made sure that all the food we were served was cooked without salt, as we can’t have any. The house was very spacious and had incredible views of the lake and the mountains. It was very authentic but modern at the same time. The private hot spring bath was incredible.
Cons: We loved everything.
Pros: Best in-room ofuro ever! Loved it!
Pros: Everything is of the highest quality here. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. The location is lovely; very quiet but close to Morioka. I would recommend using a hire car however to get places nearby. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived, nd were given tea and Japanese sweets while our room was being prepared. The indoor and outdoor baths are fantastic; so relaxing and warm. The service for the food is brilliant, and the food itself is so tasty. Everything in the rooms is of a very high quality: from small things like the umbrella or even the pens. It's easy to see where the cost is spent. Our hosts were very very nice, I can't recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for an authentic feel with high quality, privacy, romance and relaxation. We stayed here for 3 nights and I really didn't want to leave. Next time I visit Tohoku I will definitely stay again. Thanks so much for a wonderful 3 days.
Cons: Nothing. It was perfect for me.
Pros: Amazing place that is magically relaxing. Our room had interior and exterior onsens which both overlooked a gorgeous river. The staff was very helpful and made wonderful suggestions. Such a lovely splurge.
Cons: It would be near impossible to find a fault.
Pros: The rooms were actually individual cabins. There were two hot springs in the room!
Pros: Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations. Staff were lovely and able to accomodate our request for transportation to & from the villa (to Morioka station). The meals were of restaurant quality. Wish we had stayed longer than one night! Incredibly peaceful and relaxing location. Thank you!
Cons: Charging for tea and cheap drinks from the fridge

Pros: Staff was very personable, friendly and welcoming. The food was great, and the area is great to travel around for one or two day trips.
Pros: Excellent english comunication , warm wellcome , excelent private and public onsen onsen room

Pros: Good staff and breakfast
Cons: Cold toilet
Pros: We have never seen such a "western" style breakfast before, the table was barely sufficient for the many bowls with delicious things.
Just a four-minute walk from Shin-Hanamaki Station, and conveniently located just 10 minutes on foot from the Miyazawa Kenji Fairy Tales Village and the Ihatov Center. Pros: Great hospitality of the hosts! Rarely experienced such friendly and courteous staff.
Pros: Amazingly welcoming hosts - really wonderful hospitality. Great facilities, authentic ryokan with lovey Onsen. Dinner and breakfasts were excellent.
Pros: The room was large and the onsen was very enjoyable! The breakfast was excellent as well. The shiba-inu (Koko-chan) is very friendly and cute!
Pros: My friends and I met here for our annual reunion, and we're already talking about returning. WOW. I don't know where to begin. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, ryokans we have stayed at. The host greeted us in the parking lot and carried the ladies' bags from the car, during check-in, and to the room. And the room-I can't remember the last time I actually wow'd out loud when walking into a hotel room. We were all delighted and were giving our praise to the host before he had a chance to step into the room himself. Everything seemed so fresh, cozy and clean. The entire hotel had a similar atmosphere and there was absolutely no trace of the warn-down feeling so many other onsen hotels and ryokan suffer from. The hospitality was exceptional. Every single staff member we ran into was warm and friendly and would try to converse in English if they could, which is a little unusual in the Tohoku backwoods. When a fireworks show started at a resort nearby, the staff ran through the building to gather the guests so we could watch it, too. Because the ryokan wasn't crowded (which was surprising to me. How could such a fine place ever NOT be full?) my friend and I had the baths, which were lovely, clean, and just the right temperature, to ourselves. An unexpected treat! The food (traditional local fare at both meals) was great at both dinner and breakfast. One thing we appreciated was that breakfast was buffet, or "viking" style. Great for those who may not enjoy every single piece of a traditional Japanese breakfast. As we left, we were able to greet the resident shiba, Cocoa.
Cons: The ONE thing I could mention, and it really wasn't a big deal, is that the doors into the room are paper (there is a wooden grate that locks), so you can hear everything and everyone in the common area. Not so great for me, a light sleeper, but the other members of my party didn't seem to mind. For the most part though, the other guests were courteous when moving around in the common areas and weren't too noisy!
Pros: The outdoor onsen was beautiful
Cons: Some lamps i the room
Pros: Lovely place, relaxing bathts, beautiful environment (we went cycling for 3 days), comfortable rooms and awesome staff and fantastic breakfasts and dinners. Highly recommend!
Pros: Very nice ryokan, with very kind staff. The stay was great. The onsen is outside, really peaceful. The room was nice and the breakfast complete.

Cons: -Smoking smell , not good for family with children. Japanese people smoking a lot and if hotel do not separate area , smell will interrupt other people and children.
Pros: Outstanding buffet breakfast with more items offered than one could count.
Cons: Would preferred to be closer to the train station. Had to take a taxi, Y780, with luggage. Selected the Daiwa Hotel chain because of previous good experience with them.
Pros: Location was good.
Cons: The size of the bathroom. Ompared to the other Daiwa Roynet hotels we stayed in, this hotel needed to be updated in items decor.

Pros: Very spacious. Very kind and friendly staff. All you could drink beer in the lobby. Beautiful Onsens. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. Views were very beautiful.
Cons: Secluded location. Outdated decor. Difficult to understand shuttle and onsen schedules for non-Japanese speakers.
Pros: Excellent onsen. Very good dinner and breakfast.
Pros: Dinner was lovely, as was the view of the lake from the lobby.
Cons: Way too expensive. Pretentious. Obviously targets wedding parties. Difficulty communicating as a foreign tourist, come with someone who can translate. For some reason wait times for the elevators are ridiculous. Couldn't figure out where the shuttle from the station was supposed to be. Had difficulty finding towels, and nowhere to hang them.
Pros: the japanese style breakfast
Pros: Great view, great onsen, great service
Cons: Could be more clean in the room.
Pros: Beautiful lake and mountain views. Food was great. Very nice large indoor and outdoor onsen. Shuttle bus to Morioka station.
Cons: No local buses to explore as I did not have a car. Did not have an exercise room.
Pros: Wonderful experience in Morioka. Facilities were older but really well taken care of. The spa was great and the men's and women's sections were switched over daily, so within two days we were able to experience every spa. Great view of the lake from one of the baths. The staff are unable to speak English, so if you don't know Japanese, you might have trouble with check in and getting around, but they are super friendly and accommodating. We felt so comfortable in our room and had a lovely view. Something to note: if you prefer a non smoking room, you'd have to call ahead and ask for the 8th or 11th floor (the only floors that are non smoking), as Booking did not seem to have an option listed for this hotel when we booked it. We were on a smoking floor, but it really wasn't as bad as one would assume, I could only slightly smell it in the hallways. The breakfast buffet is so delicious, mostly Japanese food and all well made. The hotel is 25 minutes away from Morioka station and there isn't much around. They have a free shuttle that runs at certain times, which you would want to call ahead to let them know you are arriving. Otherwise it's about 4500 yen one way to the station by taxi. I would definitely stay here again, we really enjoyed it.
Pros: The hotel staff was so perfectly friendly and supported so much to make the stay a memorable experience! The dinner and breakfast was very delicious and full of local fresh ingredients. I loved the stay so much!

Pros: This place is superb. Three nights of amazing food and a beautifully comfortable and spacious room. Sebastien was incredibly helpful both before and during our stay. Apart from being on hand to explain everything at dinner time he was so knowledgeable about the area and gave us excellent suggestions for things to do in Morioka. The shuttle service was a real bonus.
Pros: We stayed at Oushuku Onsen Choeikan for four nights. It is a place to relax and enjoy the in-house onsen, several hot spring pools – as well as excellent food, twice daily: Kaiseki dinner and breakfast in a beautiful environment. This establishment is in the hands of a local family. The owner lady is the hardest working I have ever seen: she is there serving breakfast before 7am, and she is the one leaving last - after everybody had their delicious dinner, Food menu is changing every day, designed and executed by the wonderful, obliging chef, and an army of excellent staff, behind the scenes and in front. However, what makes this place particularly special, is the fluent English speaking French young man, Sebastien, whose special job is to look after all guests who are not Japanese speakers. Sebastien goes out of his way to help us out: to organise for us everything, to look after us in a most obliging, polite, kind, discreet manner. There is nothing Sebastien is not there to solve for us: arranging pick ups and drop offs for the shuttle; rearranging food requests with the chef; translating daily the Kaiseki menu; sorting every single whim we could think of during our stay!! Sebastien adds so much value to everybody’s stay, words cannot describe it! He is charming, intelligent, helpful and extremely obliging. Our one and only regret is that we cannot take Sebastien with us to our next destination, where we are going from here: another wonderful onsen, in Nikko. A huge, huge THANK YOU Sebastien for EVERYTHING! MERCI BEAUCOUP!!! Hope, to see you, again!
Cons: I cannot think of anything negative, at all!!! Lovely place!
Pros: English speaking staff from France, Sebastien who arranged free shuttle from and to Shizukuishi Station for us party of six. He even translated the dinner menu into English and explained each dish for us. He served us well until the end of the dinner. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Thank him very much. We would like to thank the young lady from Vietnam who checked us in and showed us around nicely.
Pros: Room and onsen
Cons: Insect in the room
Cons: Staff should lead guest to room
Pros: The rooms are big in compare with similar onsen hotels that we had stayed during this trip but at a lower price. Dinner and breakfast were included. The food quality was excellent. Moreover, the rooms were very clean and comfortable not to mention the high quality onsen. Credit must be given to the altitude of the staff. They were friendly, helpful and proactive in serving and helping all customers. One more point, the 2 sessions of mini music show (40 min and 30 min respectively) after dinner were bonus. We (a group of six adults staying 2 nights) all enjoy our stay.
Cons: Not much shops nearby especially after sunset.
Pros: The hotel is in very good shape. It is not new, but it is kept very well up to date, including all the public spaces. The dinner (kaiseki) served is of very high quality. I also liked the breakfast. During my stay one member of the staff was French, so communicating in English was not a problem at all. The free shuttle to the JR station (Akita Shinkansen) is a great service. Note that not all trains stop at that station.
Cons: I wish that the men and women hot springs would alternate every day, so I could use both facilities. Other than that, I can't think of any other complaints.
