What are the pros of staying at Hostel Split Garden?
Great location, spacious room, fairly quiet and very cheap. The location is perfect, close to all the attractions yet pretty quiet during the night. Also fairly close to Marian park. The bathroom has a large changing space. Conveniently located, comparably cheap for a weekend in Split. Fantastic location on the edge of the old town. Staff were beyond friendly and helpful. Very friendly staff and great location. Spacious rooms, bathroom for each room is a bonus as you share it only with your roommates. Great location, daily cleaner, got a private room even though we booked a shared room. The room was big and had a lot of storage space. The location is good, within walking distance from the train and bus stations. Adjacent to the tourist areas and Marjan forest. Perfect location! Hostel is in a great location, close to everything. Staff is cool and the place is super clean. Great location and the rooms were very clean.
What are the cons of staying at Hostel Split Garden?
Communal area is a bit limited and the entrance feels like you're going down a back alley. Some strange house rules that one finds out only on site. Basic kitchen and limited dining area. Security concerns. No proper common area to mingle with other travelers. The bathroom of the room smelled really bad, it was wet all the time as there is no window and the ceiling was covered with mold. No space, no kitchen, not safe. The guesthouse still doesn’t take credit card. The kitchen facilities were basically non-existent. Not worthy the money, very small. Just one plug in the room for 5 people. No common area, just a little area with broken chairs and not allowed to stay there after 12. The entrance and the surroundings are very dirty and in construction. The first look at the entrance was scary. The common areas are really small and cannot cope with the amount of people at the hostel. The kitchen is the smallest thing ever. If all the people staying in the hostel wanted to cook dinner it is impossible. The bedrooms are clean but the common WC is always dirty. The entrance to the building is weird. The facilities were really not good. The bathroom was never clean, hairs in the shower and on the floor at all times. The beds were very close together, maybe 30cm apart, which made for a little bit of an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement with the stranger next to me. Doesn't have AC, proper electricity connections, not so much necessary info. Is too far from the city center and important locations. Mattresses can be better. No plug close to the bed for charging your phone. Receptionist was unhelpful, lights in hallway didn’t work, fridge in our section of the hostel was broken. Bathroom smelled. No common area as such, just one table. The outside patio is small and can become crowded. No electric kettle. Cash only payment and difficult access. The floor of the room was on a slant. The air conditioning leaked water randomly and almost flooded the room. The outdoor terrace light didn't work and there was no light going up the stairs. The water in the shower turned cold after a while. The kitchen didn't have a bin. There was construction going on below the room which not only caused noise and interrupted sleep, but they also made a mess that led into the hostel. They also don't accept card payments for paying. On top of that there wasn't really a staff presence. Lack of security and control. Internet is not the best and not many areas to socialize and you can't cook much, but nothing important.
