When we arrived, we learned our pre-paid reservation had been cancelled without notice. The friendly woman at the counter fixed it for us, but upon returning the car, the bill was about €60 more than what had been arranged. We have to wait a few weeks for the original payment to be refunded. Annoying to have to spend the extra time figuring out the additional charges and getting refunded.

The girls at pick up were lovely. Only thing is at drop off the guy was new and could not answer any of our questions and even kept asking us what we should do next. (For example do we have to go to the front desk or can we leave since he inspected the car and we gave him the keys)

Pros:

I was pleased that we could pick-up & drop-off in different cities without paying a large fee. Also, we appreciated not being required to use the locations at the airport, which was more convenient for us.

Cons:

The car was provided with only 3/8 of a tank of fuel, which required us to fill it very shortly after pick-up. Also, the car provided was much larger than anticipated (a crossover as opposed to intermediate size), which made driving on narrow mountain roads a bit more difficult.

There is no dedicated drop off lot in Split (city location). You have to pay to park the car at the bus station and walk a few blocks to the rental office. No one mentioned this when we picked up the car and requested a drop of at the city location.

Overall very good. At pickup the extra insurance was pushed excessively after I declined, but everything else was excellent. Some of the backup cameras on the car didn’t work all the time and went in and out, but it wasn’t a big deal to me.

I was hoping to receive an Audi Q3. There was one available, but the employees refused to give it to me; instead, they provided me with another vehicle that they claims to be in the same class. They were super rude when I asked if I could take the Q3 instead of what they provided. They responded no; if I didn't want the car that they provided, then they would cancel the reservation. They had lots of demand and didn't care what car I wanted. I could take what they gave me or take nothing at all. What a miserable bunch. I will never use Avis/Budget/Payless in Croatia again.

I was not impressed with this company at the Split airport location. They charged me $120 USD for a dent that clearly wasn’t from me as there was no paint scratches on the car. I got the feeling they intentionally leave items off the inspection to repeatedly charge customers. I also got charged $100 USD because you cross into Bosnia on the drive from Split Dubrovnik. You have to and there is no boarder crossing fee at that particular point. They claim it was for a green card, but their card already has a green card. Again, I was not happy with them and felt they were just trying to squeeze out more money.

We rented a car for our trip across Croatia. They were extremely expensive and when we came back there was a little scuff on the bottom of the plastic molding around the wheel well and he hast to fill out an incident report it took 30 minutes to return the car he said it would take two or three minutes. Almost missed our flight. Make sure if you rent from any of these companies Do you work every single single little Nick on the car because they come back to try to get money from you after. Thankfully I had to insert Sherance which cost me about $160 US for two weeks so they went through that but otherwise I’m sure I would be paying a few hundred dollars for something I could have wiped off or marked before I picked up the car

This is an obvious scam, the salesmen will not let you leave with a car unless you purchase "optional" insurance (alternative is a 4000 euro deposit on the car). Was really disappointed to see such a shady business practice happening at a big name rental agency. This branch of Budget/Avis should be terminated and put into new ownership. Do not promote this company on your site, there are plenty of Google Reviews similar to mine. Avoid at all costs.

They pushed me very hard to buy an insurance. I rejected saying I bought it from your company. Then they took $2000 deposit in lieu of the insurance. I have returned the car on tine without any damage ( I took photos) . I returned the car very early in the morning before they were open because of my flight schedule. I am afraid how long it would take to get the deposit back . Help !

I didn't realize that they didn't have a stand at the airport. Instead i had to call the place and wait for pickup. During dropoff you must drop off the car at their office and get a ride back, which they provide. I would prefer to just get one at the airport for convenience.

We reserved and payed the car 3 days in front. Because of the delay of our flight they just gave the car to someone else and offered us for more then double the prize another car. What a scam! We took our car from another car rental for the same prize we had booked. Now I have to loose time and effort to get my money back…
