Beautiful Hutong, cool design albeit small room Very good location
Staff is very helpful but doesn’t seem to be trained to deal with non-Chinese tourists. The hotel needs one solid English speaker per shift Breakfast does not offer many Western options
We were really disappointed with our stay at Manxin Beijing (14-18 Sept). After spending such a large amount of money to stay at this hotel, we were extremely disappointed that they did not inform us of the traffic control restrictions that were in place during the first 2 days of our stay. Talking to other people on our trip they were all informed by their respective hotels and given the option of staying elsewhere for the first 2 days to avoid the disruption. We ended up stranded when we arrived and it took us 4 1/2 hours to reach the hotel (it should have taken 45 minutes) and the worse part was that we had no idea why we were having such trouble! We had to wait an hour for someone from the hotel to walk and collect us from outside of the restricted zone (a 7 minute walk away). On the next day the hotel told us to be back by 3pm to avoid the restriction, after rushing through our sightseeing for the day we headed back to the area around the hotel at 2pm however the hotel failed to inform us that all restaurants and shops would already be shut by then. We were then stuck inside the hotel and were starving until the hotels free compensatory dinner at 5:30pm. The dinner itself was not very tasty at all and we ended up wasting one of our days in Beijing stuck in our hotel room. After travelling all the way from London to China, we were hugely disappointed to have to spend 2 days in Beijing inside the hotel without warning. Given the trouble we had to go through those first few days the hotel were very unaccommodating refusing to compensate us more than £70 of our £520 stay! The manager Mason refused to come out and talk to us in person despite being on site and left it to his junior staff on reception. It was a complete waste of time and money staying at this hotel and I do not recommend to anyone going to Beijing!!
Staff does not speak English but are very sweet and helpful and good with google translate. Rooms are cute and modern but small. Windows look out onto courtyard so you have to close curtains for privacy. A/C worked and was needed in the September heat. Shower was heavenly. Great location for food and shopping, plus super close to a bunch of quiet but busy and interesting hutongs. Very quiet hotel location but near fun things.
I think I overplayed. Cheap if you’re comparing it to large US cities but was a little pricey for Beijing. But it was really nice and very cute and quiet.
The property is a lovingly restored Hutong neighborhood, a fantastic warren of lovingly restored and beautifully appointed rooms. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower very unique. Really delicious and unusual items provided at breakfast. Welcoming cups of tea when you first walk in. The area itself is in a really good walking neighborhood just south of Tiananmen Square an easy 10 minute walk there.
I loved my stay here, and would again. BUT: Dangerous walking the courtyard property at night as there are old doorways and passages with thresholds you have to step up and over. I tripped, fell, badly bruised my knee and both palms, and cut the bridge of my nose. I would suggest during the orientation, that special attention is provided the guest to emphasize these natural hazards in a remodeled Hutong area. The property itself is unique and gorgeous, beautifully restored, in a really good location. Fantastic shops, restaurants, are a block away. Lovely helpful staff, they don't just call you a taxi --they walk you to the street, and wait until the cab arrives, very attentive, very impressed. At this level of detail the guest would appreciate a curated list of the best shops and the best restaurants within walking distance and have those directions printed out, your guests would be appreciative. Finally, the coffee, although free in the Lobby, is terrible and weak.
Very clean, very friendly staff and phenomenal location
Communication with staff in English was very challenging. Dining options were limited and they charged their own exchange rate when paying for the room
