The surrounding was great and the staff were nice.
Not all rooms had proper functioning AC even though it was advertised. The food could also be better
Nice place to stay nearby the centre of Bhaktapur. It is 15 mins away from the center in a really quite and peaceful area. Good option if your looking to stay a little far away from the touristic zone.
Breakfast was quite good, freshly cooked. Staff was friendly and attentive. Hot showers. Considering the overall low standards and living conditions in Nepal, this hotel is probably regarded as very good accommodation.
The hotel looks on the photos bright and modern but in reality, is quite old. The furniture is old and sticky and the rooms are very smelly. I booked this hotel as previous reviews were excellent, but we did not find anything special about this hotel. Whilst the garden around the building is very nice, the view from our two hotel rooms were on industry chimneys puffing away smoke. The hotel has an Italian restaurant where most of the food is quite greasy and definitely not resembling true Italian style cooking. The area surrounding the hotel itself is very polluted (with very poor air quality) and extremely dirty - we were really glad leaving the hotel and the country.
very friendly staff, good kitchen, clean room, small Tuscany in Nepal!
Much more than a hotel, Hotel Bhaktapur is an oasis of calm outside of the craziness, noise and rotten pollution of Kathmandu. It is more like an Italian villa (and is designed like one with a central courtyard and outside beautiful garden areas). It is also like being with a family. There is a heavy Italian influence in this hotel and it shows itself in many ways. One of the owners/managers is Francesco from Milan, often walking about and talking with an irrepressible smile and happy manner. His partner Yam is from Southern Nepal, (and his family lives on site in an adjacent large house) and others. Many of the staff have been here for years - a very good sign and they themselves refer to it a s being like a family. Check the Italian reviews (Italians are picky about their food and they rave about the food here and it being like a family and all justifiably so). As to the food, incredibly, in addition to Nepalese food (which is brilliant) there is an emphasis on Italian food. I swear the Italian food (especially the homemade noodles, lasagne, gnocchi and eggplant parmesan) is equal to a good Italian dinner in Italy! Note that the food here (and all over Nepal really) is cooked to order from scratch so either plan on waiting 45 - 60 minutes for dinner or let the awesome chefs here know in advance what you want. The breakfasts are wonderful as well and you have choice off the menu - pick and choose. This hotel also does a brisk tour business and it is worth noting that they have three new vehicles (cars and SUVs are very expensive in Nepal) as well as excellent drivers. The young driver Roby has a wonderful disposition. We mostly took local transport around and hiked around the Valley (recommend Dhulkiel, Balthali, Nagarkot if the weather is good skip it otherwise, Changunaryan, the killer hike from Surambinyak up the hills, also temples Bouddanath, Swayambudanath, Namo Buddah and it's Monastery).
It would be great if they had bean ground coffee but like most of Nepal I think they use instant coffee. Everything else is wonderful.
