Firstly I'd like to say that the staff were so friendly and helpful - they got us water when we arrived which was a kind gesture. All throughout our stay the staff were really kind to us. The building was really gorgeous and traditional - no sound insulation but that didn't bother us. Tasty breakfast!
The facilities were extremely disappointing. The room we stayed in was so unlike the photos on booking.com - the bed was a metal frame not the modern wooden one you see in the photo. The mattress was hard and lumpy. There was no duvet or sheet, just a fur blanket which we thought was bizarre given the climate here. There was dust everywhere in the room and I found a big lump of hair by our pillow. The bathrooms are so substandard – there is mold growing in all the upstairs shower cubicles and there is no soap provided by the sinks. The floor was also quite dirty. Paying extra for the 'garden view' really wasn't worthwhile but I don't know what the alternative was to be fair. The breakfast provided at the café opposite was fantastic and the lady who served us was so attentive and kind. However, there are only two quite pricey options - (delicious) muesli and a 'full english' which really isn't a full english. There should be more options. That being said, the muesli and coffee was really good. Overall I'd say there are far better options for this money in Georgetown. The hostel could be fantastic with some major upgrades to facilities. And the staff were wonderful.
The room was dust smell.
The fact that the male staff just barged into the female dormitory before giving time for the female to cover their head and all.
The staff were quick and attentive to our needs, and the place was clean & well-lit. The guesthouse is built according to the original structures of the old townhouse it used to be, hence offering some old-school charm while the air-well and plants situated within the compound provided the perfect respite after a long day of exploring. Great Penang food is also only a short walk away from here! Walking about 3-5 minutes and you'd be within reach of Kimberley Street's famous Char Koay Teow and other delectable street food! Overall, a very pleasant and memorable stay!
The guesthouse itself faces to a side street and it is quiet. But walking a few minutes we find a plenty of restaurants and a morning (or weekend) market. The building of the guesthouse is a little bit old, but it is well renovated and maintained as an accommodation.
Because of the aged wooden house, it is not sound proofed.
