Good service, modern decor and good value for money. Also a nice swimming pool and leisure area. Not really! The Room Service Menu seemed very steeply priced!
The set price menu in the restuarant was both excellent value and quality
Very comfortable rooms, excellent bathrooms good position
Fabulous hotel in great location. Pool and leisure facilities were excellent
Beautiful and comfortable
young lady at front desk very helpful, also lady at dinner ;breakfast good but lacked hot food pool(s) were cold, esp indoor; pillow on bed far too high..had to resort to using blanket as pillow; instructions for operating aircondition not clear
Room was spacious and very quiet. The bed was large and extremely comfortable, and the bathroom excellent with bath, shower & bidet. 1. Breakfast was rather expensive at 14.50 2. Staff seemed thin on the ground: those on reception seemed to be rushed off their feet, and we never saw anyone behind the bar, so we never bought a drink! 3. Wasn't very happy with them putting my dob on their own hotel database without asking me. (I requested it be deleted.)
Great rooms, location, personel, service was great no
NH is upscale, contemporary and well-deserving of it's 5-star rating. The staff is very friendly, the amenities are excellent and best of all, it's a 10-minute walk from the center of the town. I would recommend the hotel for couples and families, the hotel is appealing to both. We had a great stay and would consider the hotel chain again.
Lovely bathroom really comfortable beds and smashing breakfast.
Location and servicses are good, but the room given to me was very small.
An excellent basic hotel, perfectly situated on the edge of Santiago's old town. If you are looking for 4 star comforts then maybe it is not for you but if want a convenient, friendly and value for money base to explore a lovely old city then this is perfecr.
Centrally located and within 2 minutes walk from the bus stop. Room is clean and quiet. Bathroom is small but clean.
Very good location, good price and comfortable.
Convenient location. Radio in the room. Possibility to use computer. Late check-in although in the end we got the room earlier. Room was rather chilly.
Central, easy to find, well-run and efficient. The room was'interior' so no view at all but extremely quiet. Room was basic, though fair for this type of hostal. The single room was overpriced, for the quality of the room, but this is always the case when compared to doubles or twins.
Location Very noisy and lady on desk not helpful.
Very central and convenient both for all the sights of the old city and the shops of the new town.
Very central to the city centre, quiet area, small but comfortable room with all facilities
Comfortable and well situated hotel for a visit to the old part of the city of Santiago
Very good location. Adequate size room. There is no reception desk so no queries can be answered. And no catering facilities. The fact that there is no reception desk/person, it is very much a do-it-yourself room
Very central, very comfortable, very quiet and very reasonably priced. There's no air-con - fine in May but would be very hot in summer! Room size was just what I wanted, but some might find it too small.
Perfect little Hotel. Very good value for money. Ideally located near the cathedral but very calm.
The lady at the reception was exceptionally friendly and helpfull. Location in the historical centre is perfect. The interior of the room was nice.
Great location in the city centre. Close to the cathedral but my room was quietly located overlooking the rear courtyard. Excellent value for money. No breakfast is available although that is made clear on booking. There are a wide range of cafes within a short walking distance.
excellent central location a few minutes walk from the catherdral. rooms are small and basic, but perfectly clean and comfortable.
Excellent central location, walking distance to the historical sites. Friendly welcome. Lady at the reception was very helpful and with good English and Italian knowledge. Clean and nice room (N.2). Great value for money. Nothing: everything was perfect!
The hotel was small, but warm, clean and cozy. The location is excellent as it´s just down the street from the cathedral. It rained and there is a plastic roof outside which was very noisy.
A lovely hotel located in the heart of "old" Santiago. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated, with excellent attention to detail. The staff were friendly, courteous and always helpful. We had a fantastic stay at this special gem!
spacious room, excellent coffee, nice garden to have some good wine.
Excellent location. A few meters from the cathedral and main sights. THe restaurant is very good. Nice terrace in the back of the hotel. THe rooms are somehow noisy. Not very good insulated from noisy in the common areas.
The Hotel had a great reform very recently. The architect that designed the rooms should be denounced as an incompetent - very, very, very bad and uncomfortable.
Central location in quiet courtyard in historic Santiago. The twin room was large and spotless overlooking a wonderful feng shui garden. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant.Great attention was payed to my 2 year old grandchild. All our needs were satisfied. We did not expect private parking in this ancient part of the city and found a public care park nearby.
The architecture of the hotel, very good restaurant, good quality price, friendly staff
I travel about 100 days per year, but seldom find a hotel that has such a good price/quality. Nice people, fantastic rooms, nice restaurant and superb breakdfast. Everything is clean, the bed is of a quality as you wish to have it at home, etc. Nothing but positive feedback!
Everything was excellent, location, food, staff and design of the hotel
This beautiful hotel in a converted antique building is a model of design and service. The rooms are elegant and comfortable; the grounds are extensive and beautifully landscaped; and the service is perfect. It is outside of Santiago de Compostela in beautiful countryside, a short cab ride from the center of town. It was a wonderful, wonderful place to stay. I would not change a thing about this place. It is completely perfect.
The restaurant was excellent. The menu and cuisine were superior. They also provided free access to the mini-bar. The staff was very helpful. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel. The English language TV station that was not working. They also did not have any tourist information available.
Staff, food and atmosphere none
Really relaxing place to stay. Out in country but only 15mins from Santiago. Evening meal excellent Could do with better lights in the room
The hotel is in a convenient location for the coast and Santiago, so we spent one day in the city and one seeing some of the coast. The setting for the hotel is lovely, peaceful countryside. The hotel is a bit isolated - the road off to it is 4.5km and quite narrow.
Haven't stayed anywhere with better staff. They look after you as though they owned it and you were their family. I only hope that the owner appreciates them as much as we did. Ana almost literally runs around looking after your every need. The food is great and incredibly good value. Breakfast puts to shame the corporate hotels which charge more than twice as much. We hadn't intended to have all our meals in but after the first night it seemed stupid to go and eat elswhere. The pool is great though a little small - we didn't bother with sauna etc. as the weather was really hot. The setting is fantastic a sloping lawn above a deep river valley. The dogs take an interest in everything that is going on - in the nicest possible way. Although it is at the end of the road, literally, it is well placed to get to Santiago and the coast. Couldn't say enough in favour of this place but especially the young women who run it. Try to avoid an attic room if the weather is hot.
Room: Large. Location: Stunning views. Information: No signs to assist in locating Reception. Room: Very cold, furnishing basic, no mini bar. Bed: Very uncomfortable. Bathroom: No hairdryer. Checkout: Took 30 minutes, 20 minutes to locate a member of staff and ten minutes to checkout. Systems (Human and Electronic) were very slow.
This was an absolute perfect hotel to stay. Secluded, scenic, top quality, excellent service, friendly, perfect. Food was very homy and nicely served but not of exceptional standards.
The location was superb and tranquil. We were given a suite for same price as room.
The location, though not close to the city(12 km), was very beautiful. The old house is charming the room had a special style but lakes more confortable, all in all irecomand it and wouuld stay again.
Very friendly staff. The laundry service was slow and very expensive.
The hotel was beautiful, clean and comfortable, and in a perfect position for visiting the old town There were no tourist information brochures/information and a separate bar area would be more advantageous
The decoration, the rooms, the silence... The Cafe and the Restaurant were in very 'dark' places...
Excellent location, very comfortable hotel with friendly staff who all spoke English, would stay there again and would be happy ro recommend to others
very close to town . friendly staff . breakfast good . no
The location was wonderful. The architecture is very interesting and the rooms comfortable. The atmosphere is a bit cold and the wifi access was dreadful.
The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient, the architecture in and around the hotel was stunning The bar was in the cafeteria and could have been a little more comfortable, but the staff were excellent. Also breakfast was a little overpriced and although it was clearly stated not included in the price, in our view the lack of breakfast made the hotel slightly overpriced.
Excellent position. Bar area has no atmosphere. Car park not at all apparent & not signposted.
staff were friendly and helpful beds were very hard
The hotel and staff were excellent - well done Nothing - it was excellent
The historical building is very beautiful, but rooms inside are made with modern innovations. Everything was very well done. Water in the swimming pool was a little bit cold. Internet in the room is not automatical.
Very helpful staff in and old house readapted to receive guests. Very good location: not a few meters from the center but at the limit of the historic center. Nevertheless, benefits are that parking are at least 100 meters (few vehicules could get into the historic center and thats good) as well as at 400 meters of a supermarket (if on budget) which are in the "new town" Event if not bad things by themselves, think twice if going with young children as us: comfortable but small rooms and no elevator. For any other kind of traveller going two in a room, is perfect.
The stay at Hostal Alfonso was simply magnificent. The name "hostal" is truly misleading because what You will find is an utmost romantic boutique hotel with an especial touch of warmness. The room had the most wonderful view over the old town and cathedral and the interior was decorated superbly. The staff was especially welcoming, making the whole stay particularly homely... The warmest and sweetest hotel I´ve seen so far.
The kindness of he owner, her will to accomodate tomy needs and the bread That the alarm clock was difficult to set
The staff were very friendly and helpfull. Small bathroom
Location was excellent, close to the old city and reasonably priced and views of the cathedral. Room was kept very clean.
Family run and very friendly, everything clean, room nicely furnished, superb view of cathederal, good breakfast. Overall excellent value for money - could not be better.
Well located hostal with very freidnly and helpful owners
friendly, helpful, kind people, very warm, clean and comfortable, good breakfast, excellent location, muy bien gracias.
The hotel was very central to the city, only 2mins. walk. the staff were very friendly and one of them spoke english. no
We spent 3 nights in Hostal Alfonso and found the owner and his wife a lovely couple, very friendly and helpful. The hotel had a homely touch to it with, a little like sharing the couple's home which was very pleasant. Unfortunately we found the room (101) to be on the small side but it did provide all that was required except space to move about! If we were returning we would request a larger room. The hotel was well located, very central with a view of the cathedral. No
The hostess at the hotel was very gracious. The room was beautiful and had a view of the Cathedral. Nothing.
Clean rooms. Attentive and friendly staff. Good view from our room. Short walk to the cathedral and to areas with bars/restaurants.
View from our room was great- overlooking the Cathedral-nice quiet room- great location within walking distance of everything.
clean and tradional hotel in good location.
The location is excellent. A parking garage is close. The staff was polite. Avoid Room 1 at all costs. It is next door to reception and the phone rang late and then early. Additionally, the window opens almost directly into the cars parked in the street outside. By the time we realized how poor the room was, it was very late in the evening. Should this happen to you, demand a different room no matter the hour. I regret that we did not. We simply changed hotels the next day because we did not trust them to take care of us.
Excellent location, close to the center of things, but on a relatively quiet street. Nicely furnished. The staff were very helpful.
Wonderful, helpful staff and a very good breakfast. There was a neighborhood dog that barked intermittently throughout the night and woke us from time to time. The color scheme of the room was a bit dreary.
the location was great and also the room was really cute! everything was fine!
Found this hotel to be in an excellent location. Spotlessly clean. Staff very helpfful. Struggled with thelanguage barrier. Good value for money. Breakfast for an extra 5 euros was very a handy way to start the day. No
Fantastic value for money, staff where super helful and location was superb, clean, comfortable and very safe Tiny TV
The position is central and strategic in the historical centre of Santiago.
nice, clean, modern room very nice, helpful staff good location beds were very uncomfortble
The location near the Old Town and the hotel staff who were very pleasant Yes, the bathroom fascilities are very poor and the room is rather shabby
The staff was very friendly and the location was perfect. There's a parking garage nearby that offers a discount to hotel clients. I would have liked to have the windows open at night but the carnival was close enough to disturb us with the noise of the music. The shutters blocked the sound, though, and there was a ceiling fan.
the location our room (105) was very noisy at night there seemed to be a problem with the plumbing and we were kept awake both nights by loud banging in the pipes
very helpful and friendly staff, hotel very well located
the modern room
Only took breakfast, but it was great. Clean, fresh. Service very good. Bathrooms have windows that are clear, so make sure you are comfortable with the person you go with.
The staff was courteous and helpful. The location was good and made it easy to walk to the areas that we wanted to visit
Location. Walking dystans to historical center. No place infront of hotel to stop the car
quiet street, closeness to the old town and railway station, good breakfast selection.
Having spent 6 evenings in local galician bars while on our trip my friend and I not having much Spanish wanted to meet others we could converse with on our last evening. Thinking we would definately find English speakers in an Irish pub we asked the receptionist if he knew of any Irish pubs in the town, which angered him. He snapped at us and slapped a map of Galecia on the counter, informed us "this isn't Spain" and told us we should be going to Galecian bars. He was annoyed, his mannerisms were aggressive. I was relieved he was not at the desk the next morning when we were checking out.
The room was a good size and catered for every need. It would have been nice to have a lounge area in the reception were you could relax and have a drink.
Arrived very early - 10.30am and desk manager was extremely nice offering us tea/coffee and only had to wait 10 minutes to get our room - hotel is beautifully decorated - rooms are very quiet when windows are shut and we loved the free computer terminal with internet access in the lobby. thank you No - it was a beautiful hotel -
Staff was great--we arrived hours late due to train breakdown and desk staff was very friendly. Made up for tough day; Clean room Beds were okay Breakfast was okay Good location between train station and Cathedral area Wish breakfast had protein options
Good location, breakfast good
Very thin walls, so much noise from the other rooms. Additional price for breakfast for which: poor service and just 1 croissant
Just easy to find. Not much I like anout that hotel. That hotel helped me to make deccision: no more 2 stars hotel! It was very bad issolation of sound, very small, cold room, old furniture and not too clean. I would not reccomend any family, specially with small kids to stay there. This hotel good for "pass by" truck drivers. On another hand, the kitchen was all right, not what you would expect from 2 star hotel.
excellent friendly staff
Friendly atmosphere no
Good location, relation price/quality Too noisy
A convenient centre for bus access to the city which meant thatone did not have the problems associated with city parking. Bedrooms showing signs of age and reburbishment needed, particularly in bathrooms. As I stated in my questionaire left in the romm there is a major problem with neighbourhood dogs barking constantly. Our attempts to get served for breakfast on last day failed completely as bar staff more concerned with taking away empty cups than taking orders and so that left us hungry and with a bad feeling.
Poor location in relation to interesting sites, poor public transport to city centre. Over priced for its location and standards.
Easy booking, comfortable room Hairs on the bathroom floor
The staff is very friendly. It is a good hotel. International tv channels. Bus P3 from the Plaza Galicia in the centre of Santiago stops in front of the hotel.
The situation was good but a little difficult to find by car On the Saturday evening the dining room was not open and we had to go out to find somewhere to eat.
Big room Old TV
clean and 15 min walking distance to centre By no stretch of the imagination a 4 star hotel. we also stayed at the sercotel Los Abetos outside the town and there is no comparasion in the two hotels, though both graded as 4 star. It is a good 2 star by UK standards.
A lovely, spacious room and excellent buffet breakfast. The pool was not yet open for the year though it was being prepared. The walk into the historic centre, although not very far, was rather dull though it was possible to vary it slightly by going through the park.
It was friendly, large rooms, modern bathroom, clean and warm.
cleanliness was excellant, ideal location for town center, only 15 minutes walk be prepared for a wait trying to get a drink from the bar, never any staff
The swimming pool Should have had a room with balcony, this was not the case. Not a proper / comfortable bar area or residents lounge
location perfect for us expensive breakfast we went to a local cafe instead
Pool was out of order therefore a rip off
Internet service was not at a level that is acceptable - very slow in browsing
I was meeting a very good friend that I hadn't seen in six weeks. We stayed in for three days straight and ordered room service. The staff offered complete privacy which was wonderful. My friend and I will always remember this time we had together to talk, talk, talk. Yes, unfortunately, the trays from our room service were not picked up promptly. It was a bit embarassing to see them accumulating outside our room especially when we took the time to inform the staff that they were ready to be picked up. We felt a bit ignored.
New and clean. No restaurant
I loved the ease of staying at the Gran Hotel Santiago, the room was quickly and efficiently cleaned and everything was tidied nicely. My son (6 years) said we have to stay there again for their toasted ham and cheese sandwiches! I'm allergic to fish and when we didn't understand some of the items on the dinner menu, they carefully wrote a translation so that I was reassured about what I could and could not eat. The hotel is really well placed for going into the main town of Santiago, we actually walked all the way because the bus didn't turn up. It is also close enough to take a taxi back from the town centre, without it costing the earth! I thought the cooked food for breakfast was not good, the quality of the sausages and eggs were terrible. However, they also had pastries, toast, cheese etc so there was plenty else to choose from. In the room, the TV does not swivel so you can only view it from one bed. Minor problems compared with the rest of the place.
'English Breakfast' cold and not replenished quickly,
The hotel was fabulous and the rates we got with yourselves were excellent, 75 euros per night for the room for bed and breakfast, unbelievable!
really close to the city centre, 15 minutes walk. Nice bed, good bathroom.
good ratio quality/money
the decoration. the cleanliness of the bathroom. We changed room once and the new one wasn't better.
Excellent! Great hotel!
Very nice hotel, but seriously overpriced. Outdated 1980's decor and style.
The breakfast. The room An indoor swimming pool would have been wonderful. Specially as the weather was not great.
Super staff who were only too helpful when asked a question they went out of their way to find someone with the correct information. The food tended to be items which were left after large numbers of bus tourists had been feed and were overcooked, dried out or poor quality.
Friendly staff, clean, great facilities. Food wasn't great.
good and helpfull hotel team, clean, big rooms, big bed, good breakfast, very recomended bad signs to get to hotel, wrong location on (booking's) map,
Location was very good although you need a car. Parking was ok. Room was clean, comfort ok. Nice bar with friendly staff. Free internet. Entrance of the hotel was not very clean (cigarette-ends). Staff at the reception had a lack of experience. Language skills were poor. Only 2 were able to answer in English. The main problem however was the bad smell in the building ! The smell of wet dogs . Breakfast-room was cheerless. It looked like a school-cantine. The hotel pretends to have a fitness-room but they only have some old machines that did not even work ! No workout !
beautiful hotel. It is far from the city center.
Rooms are spacious and car parking is very easy. Break fast was abundant but the products were not very good quality. During our first nigth there was some party going on in the hotel. Fitness room was being repaired.
Comfort and convienence
I was able to check in @ 1.30 am. the staff were excellent and the room and breakfast was 1st class
The staff were incredibly helpful when my husband and I first moved to Spain. We had a night reserved here so we could spend the following day looking for an apartment to live in, but since it took us a week to finally find one, they kept us housed and were ultra helpful (we have a small well-behaved dog, but apparently Santiago isn't as dog friendly as we thought). The facilities were clean and well designed, better than what I expected for my first time in Espana. It was a little outside of Santiago (5km?) so we did have to take a taxi, which Congreso would call on for us each time we needed to get to town, but this location is reflected in the good price.
The door of the bathroom was wet and caused a smell of mold. In the room itself the smell did not bother bcause of air conditioning
Location near Plaza de Obradoiro and parking near and cheap A little pricey.
The hotel room was very spacious and extremely clean with an amazing view of the cathedral. The hotel is very well situated for exploring the old town.
The view from our bedroom window to the cathedral was wonderful and the location so central that we could walk around the old city with all its lovely places of interest and restaurants.
near to the old quarter and ideal location for sightseeing. front of hotel was very noisy. couldn't sleep. ended up in quieter room in basement second night. need to request room at back but costs more.
Great hotel within 5 minutes walk of the main catherdral and located very centrally. Nice atmosphere and lovely decor. Rooms were clean spacious and well heated during our winter stay. The staff were very nice, helpful and very professional.
The staff is really very nice and attentive. The room was big, light and had a wonderful view to the Cathedral.
The warm feeling of being "at home." The lluggage drop off and parking situation was confusing, we had a car. Next time it will be easier, but perhaps prepare your guests with a map and also that it is ok to pull up on the sidewalk to load/unload.
a beautiful hotel, very convenient for the old centre of Santiago as well as the new zone where the main shopping can be found. Our room had an incredible view of the hotel, impossible to get from anywhere else in the city.
Everything, location, attention, comfort
Smart modern furnishings and facilities, very helpful staff. Breakfast room needs cheering up eg put some paintings/pictures/posters on the wall.
The hotel is close to the airport bus station and it is clean and quiet. The breakfast is good, too. There is nothing that I dislike as I stayed just for one night.
clean modern central hotel - great value breakfast choice - attitude of breakfast waiter
Fantastic staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Good location for exploring the city. Good continental style breakfast and afternoon/evening snack included in cost. Short walk to train station and airport bus stop.
The hotel is in a smart, quiet part of town near the railway station and 10 minutes' walk from the historic centre; also, the airport bus stops nearby in Rua do Doutor Teixeiro. The hotel is modern, very clean, and has very friendly, young staff. Stay somewhere else if you absolutely must have a large room (double rooms are cosy but not that big). When you come back from a day's sightseeing, the free tea, coffee and pastries will keep you going!
Excellent location. Feels like its out of town but its in fact very close to the centre but located in quite a residential area so relatively quiet place to stay in the city. We had a room that looked out onto the back garden and stayed over a weekend , we found the place to be very comfortable, clean and quiet. Free internet is a bonus and the staff speak English which makes it slightly easier for us. Parking was nearby and pretty straightforward at a fee of EURO 8 per day.
What a hotel! a well renovated hotel with good facilities. The staff were really good but be warned no english spoken, but the receptionist spoke slowly and clearly so with a small amount of spanish you can understand what is being said. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The only down side was no air con in the room but even in August it was not unpleasent over night. Toro is a really great little town to visit, good bars and restaurants, wine both red and white good
family treat, free coffee in the afternoon
Staff were exceptional. Free snacks available all day. Central location.
Rooms are very small, but for a Citytrip ok. Breakfast was very simple, could be a little bit better, despite we are familiar with the breakfast in Spain!!!
