David the owner makes you feel very welcome and if you wish you can join him at his table for dinner, which is excellently cooked by his wife using produce from the estate or local suppliers (delicious!) Our room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel has lots of charm and is in a beautiful location
The hosts were friendly and helpful. They made us feel right at home in their B&B which is really a very large, old chateau with an intriguing history. No. But some people might find it a little remote.
We liked everything...The atmosphere surrounding the Chateau was graceful and welcoming, and the grounds were a feast for the eyes . Rooms were spotless & very comfortable, and the hosts immediately made us feel at home, plus, the home-made gourmet specialties were wonderful. Will most definetly go back for a longer stay.
The Chateau is a prime example of elegant shabby chic. It is more of a private home than a hotel. Our host is very gracious and helpful. He sent us to probably one of the most unpretentious and fabulously delicious restaurants for dinner just a few kilometer's away. Our room and bed were comfortable. Lorraine is a beautiful and very rural part of France fortunately not as touristy as Alsace. Perfect place for those who want to hike or bike. If you are looking for a wonderful truly french experience go to this Chateau! Breakfast was only bread and coffee. You could pay a bit more for eggs and ham but need to tell the host the night before.
nice staff, clean room, free parking wifi a bit difficoult
A hotel of grerat character in a lovely area The rooms look llike they could do with a bit of modernisation
Lovely position, gorgeous outlook beside the river, faded but charming large bedroom and bathroom, simple breakfast in nice and quirky dining room. Do not arrive between 3 and 5.30pm and especially not on a wednesday when restaurant and hotel are closed! A phone call got us in ,but no food,no drinks, nor use of terrace etc...
People very friendly, helpful & efficient. Restaurant 1st class - wonderful food. Hotel style & decor charming - very French countryside feel. Mattress on bed too soft - backache next day. Shame as apart from this stopover was excellent.
Friendly welcome, charming owner, delicious meal beautifully served. We felt very comfortable and would return again. Hotel is right by the canal and we had a lovely walk.
Very helpful staff, who made a real effort to speak english to us. Very good food is a lovely dining room. closed for dinner sundays, however this seemed to be the norm in the area
This is a very old hotel along the French canal system and is also reasonably close to the main highway. Our stay here was a highlight of our travels as the charm of the hotel was at least matched by the gracefulness of our hosts. We ate dinner here and suggest that anyone else staying here do so as the food, preparation and service are superb, and not in a snobbish way as in high-end establishments!
Excellent dinner, but closed Sunday. Breakfast simple but supplied cheese on request. Owner friendly and spoke excellent English as did the staff. Interesting location with canal and the inclined plane canal boat lift. Parking a little limited but was not a problem to us. There was a hand douche spray but no proper shower.
Comfortable room though bathroom /toilet cramped - evening meal food good seemed to be made in hotel not mass produced breakfast poor no choice (old fashioned French style continental) not worth money
The web site quotes as below The "deck" leaning above the river Zorn with view on the boats going in and out of the locks on the canal will refresh your peacefull moments during the hot summer days." In fact you cannot see the canal or boats from the dining deck! The waiting staff had difficulty in completing our dinner order. I was asked to pay for dinner and room the night before - which I did. The waitress gave details of the bill to a colleague who prepared a credit card slip which I signed. I was not given a copy of the itemised bill. When I asked for one I found that breakfast (which we did not intend to take) had been included. This I consider to be sharp practice.
