Pros:I lived in this hotel for 6 months in 2014. I decided to stop over on my cross-continental stay because of its convenience and quality of service. The hotel is located in a kind of cul-de-sac a hundred yards from the I-80, just west of the bridge and behind a Bob Evans. I used to eat breakfast there on weekends. This Red Roof Inn caters to businesses, partiers, and people who come for conventions in the local area. Red Roof always has a separate section for businessmen so the partiers don't keep them up. The rooms smell of cleaning solution because they see a lot of use. They are well-maintained though. The bed was new and nice and firm. The AC was loud but steady so you don't notice it. The TV was good: channels are limited but they did have HBO. The furnishings are sparse but the adequate for a single person or a couple. Don't bring a mountain of luggage in. The security is excellent. You could read a newspaper with the parking lot lots. As I recall, the Joliet police have regular patrols in the lot. The front desk allows the clerk to see who's entering and block them. I never had any problem with my car or room when I stayed for 6 months in 2014 or recently. This hotel is well run. The staff are polite and kind.
Cons:Red Roof Inns sometimes but not very often offer a coin laundry. The Red Roof Inn in Downers Grove, another good stay, though run down, offered a coin laundry.

Pros:The only thing I liked was the price and it really wasn't a great price.
Cons:It was not cleaned properly before we arrived.we found a dirty towel in the bathroom. It was very noisy (walls too thin) . We never leave anything in our car so the hike up the stairs in the cold wet weather was not fun after a long day of driving.Seeing four police cars in the parking lot on our arrival was unsettling. Not enough hand towels or wash clothes for the three of us. Shall I go on. I think you can get the picture.

Pros:The room was very spacious, generally clean, and quiet. We stayed on a very cold night outside, and the room was nice and warm. WiFi is free. Kids stay for free. Good price for the area.
Cons:1) The hotel is 100% smoke-free, which in principle sounds good if you are a non-smoker. However, our room had a faint smell of old cigarette smoke, either from when the room was a smoking room or when someone decided to violate the policy. 2) When we arrived in our room there was only a very small amount of toilet paper left with no extra roll. I understand they're trying to save money, but the room should at least be functional for a night. 3) The hotel lacks a breakfast, which just about every hotel now has. Even the inexpensive hotel across the street advertises a breakfast.
