6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Disappointed that booking got mixed up as we booked twin beds (travelling with a friend) and actually there isn’t any!! Also pushbikes for hire don’t work out of service so cannot hire them. Unfortunately owners were away so communication difficult. Suggestion of a map to help tourists as no one Spoke English and therefore couldn’t give us directions to beach, ferry etc Only one bathroom toilet combo for all guests to share, busy waiting in mornings, maybe a seperate toilet to help out! Not enough comfy chairs with backs on them to enjoy the beautiful river activities or to read a book.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: great place and food, amazing hosts, also very reasonably priced.
Cons: nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We liked everything. The location is perfect. This was our second time in Si Phan Don and we choose Don Som as we already knew Don Khon and Don Deth. This is the only ( or maybe the one of the only two...) Guesthouse on this island. It is located right on the bank of the river which is a great plus. Nevertheless the country behind is so beautiful as well. The inhabitants of this island are much more welcoming to foreigners( compared to the inhabitants of the two most popular islands...) and everybody seems to be willing to talk to you!! The bedroom is basic but there is everything you need. A good bed, clean sheets, mosquito net, two windoows, a new fan, soap and toilet paper. The small restaurant has a good menu and the owner's family makes everything possible to give you some good directions to reach their accommodation and are helpful in everything.
Cons: There is nothing that we really didn't like...Only two things made us a little upset...But..." nobody's perfect'!! There has been a overbooking problem and we have been asked to change our accommodation for the first night while we were on our way to Don Som Riverside Guesthouse. The owner gave us a good discount...But we would have preferred much more to know it at least one day in advance. Even if everything ended in a good way. Second thing. We talked about this with the owner...Bicycles!! We trekked 8.5 km to reach Don Deth and hire two bicycles with which we wandered around the three days we were there. It would be nicer to have somegood bicycles at the Guesthouse itself. ( Even if trekking has been a good option!). Sander explained to us all the problems that Bicycles involve on those islands ( customers not taking good care of them, difficulties in finding somebody that can fix them when they got broken..and so on..). We hope in the future this problem will be solved..It would be another great plus! Thanks for everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just everything, it was clean, spacious and a wonderful location but most of all we had a great time at the cooking class and with Tanoi - we enjoyed spending the time with him and his family so much !
Cons: Nothing - it was great - we would have loved to stay longer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is perfect . The experience is extraordinary, this is what I haven been looking for my trip . A quiet island with local people live on. And the guesthouse just by the river.view is fantastic all day . The owner is a lovely couple and nice to chatting with them . All in all . If you are looking for someplace to make you feel really quiet and peace . This is it !

Pros: Beautiful location with nice view on the Mekong River. Super friendly and helpful hosts. Delicious meals.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: If you are looking for peace and tranquility then this is the place. The host Sander, from the Netherlands, is very welcoming and full of information to help you get about while you're on the Islands. The rooms are fairly simple, a couple of small Bungalows on stilts, but you have a fan and electric points in the room. They are clean and the bed I had was very comfortable. There is a separate bathroom and toilet just a few meters from the Bungalows. Due to the location there are no other restaurants available to use, so you are reliant on the restaurant at guest house, which is no bad thing as Sanders' sister in law is a mean chef and there is a good variety of foods on the menu. I enjoyed everything about this place and would definitely recommend coming here if you want some relief from the "Tourists trail". Sander is the perfect host and we spent a few evenings with a few beers putting the world to rights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is really a perfect place: The calm island itself, the accomodation, the food and last but not least: The hosts Sander and Tanoi. The hospitality of Sander and Tanoi is outstanding and honestly on of my best homestays I've ever been. Guests are always No. 1 and they do everything to make the holiday unforgetable (really e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!). I was travelling alone and I enjoyed my stay there so much (11 days) and if I would have had more time, I would have spent even more days at this place. At Don Som and the islands around there are many options to be active or otherwise just relax & enjoy the place the whole day :-). I really recommend the cooking class which includes a boat trip to the morning market. It´s really an authentic experience. So if you searching for an unique and serene place (off the beaten path), nice people and very very very good food: This is the place to be.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is all about the location. Don Som is unlike the two main islands in Si Pan Don (Don Det and Don Kon), in that you are pretty well the only tourists here. This is a tiny bungalow operation, tucked away in a little slice of paradise, with nothing but authentic Laos island life to keep you busy. What a find! Your host, Sander, can help with all sorts of arrangements, and is a source of delightful conversation, about Laos, life, and everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our five days here. Would have liked to spend a couple more days, if we had the time. Be warned though - if you are looking for lots of activity, maybe this isn't for you. However, if you are looking for a place to slow down, unwind, and somewhere to enjoy a slice of real Laos village life, then this is 100% recommended as part of your itinerary.
Cons: There are no restaurants or shops worth mentioning nearby so you are reliant food being prepared on site. Having said that, the food was great, so this isn't really a problem at all. And there is something rather charming about a village without much in the way of shops... just village people going about their lives.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed 2 days in don som. Sander and Tanoi are extremely nice hosts, who take a lot of care for their guests. We had an amazing time with Tanoi, learning how to cook Lao food and many interesting discussions with Sander. The bungalows are simple and nice, equipped with everything needed (mosquito net, fan...) and had hammocks on the veranda. Thanks for your great hospitality, we had an awesome time in your home stay!
Cons: Everything perfect
Pomelo Restaurant and Guesthouse - Khon - Building

9.1 Excellent (105 reviews)

Pomelo Restaurant and Guesthouse offers a quiet and relaxing stay in Don Khone Island. Guests can enjoy familial hospitality and homemade cuisines at the property. Free WiFi is provided. All rooms come with a separate living area that overlooks the bank of Mekong River. There is also a private bathroom equipped with a shower. The on-site restaurant serves Thai dishes using local ingredients. Guests can also enjoy other dining options at the family restaurants located in the village.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Additional sitting room with view over the river, very peaceful and calm, swimming spot directly from the guest house, live terrace restaurant, very helpful friendly staff and free water refills!
Cons: The bathroom was quite basic and the food in the restaurant good quality but more expensive than other local restaurants
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Food was outstanding and amazing value. Local staff were lovely. And the view from the balcony of the Tamarind House was absolutely stunning.
Cons: When we were there, the management were away. The local staff are lovely, but don't speak any English. There was a very helpful volunteer, Andrej, who did his very best, but he had only been there a short while and didn't really know the trip options as he hadn't done them. So, we had to discover what to do without advice, which turned out to be very hit and miss. I am sure that our experience would have been greatly enhanced had the management been present.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a very small guesthouse in a quiet and remote village on Don Khone, designed to ensure a comfortable stay while blending with the local environment. It is not for those looking for a party scene or for all western style conveniences. But for those seeking peace and comfort in an authentic local environment on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Mekong river, it is really hard to beat. The owners are warm and attentive hosts with a clear vision of the kind of experience they aim to share with their guests.
Cons: There was nothing that we did not like about Pomelo Guesthouse. The bumpy road across the island from the ferry to Baan Hang Khone where the guesthouse is located will delight some visitors as an experience in itself, but it is not for all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a perfect place if you want to enjoy the Mekong without tourists and bars or parties. The guesthouse is really romantic with friendly staff and a good kitchen. We spent here the Christmas and they prepared special meal (fish and even chocolate cake!) and also a lovely boat tour to a little island in the middle of Mekong, so we could swim and enjoy the sunset.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. The room is charming and clean. The staff attentive. Hope i can come back again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting. Huge veranda looking out over Mekong and Cambodia on other side. Very helpful owner who organised my onward travel. Cycles to rent nearby. Waterfalls and town all in cycling distance.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It was real pleasure to stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in Pomelo Guesthouse for 3 days in November with a group of three friends. We loved everything in this place! The owner, Oliva, is super friendly and helpful, and did everything to make us feel at home; in the rooms there are booklets to help you plan your visit to the island. The guesthouse is in a very calm location, in the extreme south of Don Khon, with a small beach by the Mekong. The food is amazing and reasonably priced, the rooms are very spacious and thoughtfully designed. I definitely recommend this guesthouse for your vacations!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location of the guesthouse is amazing! Perfect for chilling out and looking and the picturesque view. Just a couple of restaurants in the village and really easy to go see the dolphins. Staff really helpful and friendly. Will answer any questions and helped us book our bus to Cambodia- brilliant chilled out stay!!!
Cons: Was very warm on a night, made it a little difficult falling asleep.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The spacious room.
Souk San Sun Set Bungalow - Ban Dondét - Bedroom

8.3 Excellent (273 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Souk San Sun Set Bungalow in Don Det, you'll be 9 minutes by car from Historic Bridge, Don Det - Don Khon. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Cambodian host and his wife live and breath "service". Firstly, the guesthouse is right next to the ferry landing point. Upon checking in, I was given a brief description of the lay of land, giving me answers before I even asked my questions. I was then taken to my room and the aircon has already been switched on in anticipation of my arrival! Small touches, yes, but they embody the service spirit so evident throughout my stay. Breakfast was on a twin-hulled boat anchored next to the property and from there, I could actually see the sun rise and set (if the weather is more cooperative). The bed is comfortable and all the bathroom facilities work without a hitch.
Cons: None. I mean REALLY none!
7.5 Good
Pros: The view was amazing. Owner very friendly. Bed comfortable.
Cons: Room not closed (wholes in wall and wood windows) A mouse inside my bed in the night. Garden looks dirty from the construction and the huge amount of empty bottles. No staff onside after sunset.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staffs were so friendly, and responded our requests so quick. This accommodation is located near the docking place, easy to find and also near the beach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Souksan Sunset is a wonderful hotel located at the point of Dondet island which is the perfect place for appreciating the sunset. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with great AC. They have free bicycle that you can use. The manager is very nice and helpful. I had the opportunity to fish in the mekong with equipment provided by the hotel. The owners are lovely people, they invited me for dinner and showed me all the island on motorbike. I can only recommend this place. The breakfast is included and delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms very clean and next to the river. Just 1 minute from the ferry. Lovely owners. Good breakfast. They help you to find any service you need. Laundry, tickets or what you need!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Friendly, helpful owner, quiet location directly at the river. Cheap bicycle rental. Breakfast included. Super views.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Was not clean, cockroaches, looked like a building site, room had a nice view but no glass in the windows, only wooden shutters so had to keep closed for the ac to work, then room was very dark
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Souksan, the location is great, minutes walk from all the sunrise/sunset restaurants and bars. The family run business made us feel very welcome. There is renovation work being undertaken on the Sunset terrace but we were staying in the off season, so the family has to do the work while quiet. They have gone to the effort of hiring a temporary floating terrace which is used to serve breakfast and is available to sit and watch the sunsets or just relax during the day. The owner helped us organise trips to see the Irrawaddy dolphins and the Fantastic waterfalls. Our rooms were fresh and clean. I would certainly stay here again. Thank you for our stay
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, very helpfull and friendly owners, good breakfast, nice room with big bed and good working aircon. Riverside is under construction, but this didn't bother us.
Cons: Nothing I can think off
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helped us booking a kayak tour and the bus to Vientiane. The location was super, near the „pier“ and walking distance to anything else. It was quiet there.
Cons: Unfortunately there were construction work going on, so we couldn’t enjoy the sunset or chill outside. The room has no fly-screen and no glass, so we couldn’t open it, which makes the room dark and not really enjoyable at day light.

7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was nice and helpful. Food at the restaurant was good. Nice and quiet location near the river. Big and comfortable bed.
Cons: Low pressure in the shower and water smelt really bad. Far from town but you can cross the bridge and go on the other island for food and services. One of the fan was not working and it was really hot in the room. Can easily be fixed.
7.5 Good
Pros: The food was good Staff friendly
Cons: I found that a bit expensive for a wood bungalow Bicycles were in poor condition
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super cheap for your own riverside hut! We decided to spend two nights here to explore Don Khon as it’s just over the adjacent bridge with loads of great restaurants (5 mins walking) and the Li Phi waterfalls (fifteen mins cycling) from the Homestay (we rented bikes from the accommodation for only 10KLAK). We also booked an amazing full day tour for our day here and the company picked us up and dropped us off for free in a river taxi from right outside. Don’t let the distance put you off from the main port (10 min tuktuk) as it’s well worth the trip over, so much to do and also a great public swimming pool five min walk away with free entry (just have to buy a drink!). We were also dropped off on the way to our next hostel at the port by the hostel owner who was lovely!! Would definitely stay again to see this side of the beautiful island. Also great cheap food in their hotel.
Cons: Is slightly inconvenient for main port and most of bars and restaurants so would recommend two nights here to see Don Khon and can access tours, then another night in the town centre to explore more bars & restaurants.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely family and a nice place to kick back and take it super easy for a few days. It's nothing fancy but for a backpacker that wants their own space for a very cheap price it ticks all the boxes. I found it comfortable and very relaxing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. It's in a good location and the restaurant has some nice food. I enjoyed my stay here very much!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The food is cheap and nice. Value of money to stay plus the staffs are friendly.

Cons: WiFi is not perfect, but it's always like that on Don Det and in Laos in general

Cons: There r only fan, but it’s Super hot without air conditioning.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people. Nice bungalow and great view
Cons: The breakfast was quite small and took long to prepare, but was delicious.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owners, very friendly and helpful. Bungalow is comfy and clean with great view of the Mekong. Not too far from the village. You can rent bicycles to explore the island as well. Breakfast is good. Great WiFi. We extended our stay - they were fully booked for the last few days we wanted to stay so they helped us to move to Champa's bungalow down the road which was also great. You can find cheaper bungalows on the island but they're not as comfy and clean, we enjoyed our stay!
Cons: It's a lovely bungalow but it does get very hot inside. We stayed in April and it was super hot, the bungalow getting hot is not specific to this bungalow, all the bungalows on the island are getting very hot. If you struggle with heat, consider accommodation with aircon.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything... breakfast itself... the owners are amazing
Cons: The shower hope theres hot and cold...
7.5 Good
Pros: There's no mosquito net in the window, only in bed, but there was holes in it. So many insects enter into the room if you let the window opened. It's too hot inside the room, if you close the window is impossible to sleep.
Cons: The breakfast is included and very nice. You can choose from the menu. The lady in reception is very kind. Very nice and peaceful view to the river.

Pros: What a wonderful and relaxing place in the 4000 Islands. Tip and Mike were great hosts and always gave me the feeling of being part of „the family“. The room is cozy and clean, right at the waterside. Watching the boats running up and down the river can be sooo relaxing. If you want more action, Mike offers adventurous tours on the Mekong. Great place, the Boathouse.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Getting out
Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Tip, the owner was lovely, she invited us to celebrate Laos new year with her and her family which was brilliant. She is so warm and welcoming!
Cons: The property is very far away from the main town/port area in Don Det. It took us about 40 mins to walk. Also for the room you get the price is very expensive. We found somewhere closer to town for a lot less
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The hired kitchen staff used indigenous recipes.
Cons: This location is 1 meter from a motorcycle path and 5 meters from the the only boat channel between the port and LiPi Falls. Be prepared to have sleep deprivation and benzene hazard for your lungs. There is no security or privacy between the units via a 2 meter wall with nothing above to the roof line. Rooms are not designed for the site to allow any airflow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and his family were very nice, helpful and efficient.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely accommodation, good value for money
Cons: It was a bit far out from all the restaurants
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The lady who runs the place is so friendly and chatty. The food was lovely and our riverfront bungalow was in a beautiful quiet location - it was lovely relaxing in the hammocks. For our transfer from Don Det the boat picked us up right outside the Boat house!
Cons: Nothing I can think of.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and lovely owner and also the other guests. Very good food!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quite in the night, nice view of the river, doesn’t have mosquitoes
Cons: No or barely can get WiFi in the room.

Somphamit Guesthouse - Khinak - Bedroom
7
7.9 Good (76 reviews)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Riverside, great restaurants around
8.3 Excellent
Pros: No reception but someone pops up in a matter of minutes anyway Right on the riverside in a quiet stretch of the Mighty Mekong river Plenty of good food less than 30m away. Tried all three types of rooms and they were pretty much the same. More flies around the ones hanging above the river. Booked three nights and stayed almost a fortnight!
Cons: They are extremely good at small flies and ants. The buggers at the river-side rooms might offer a personal record for some visitors. Oh. A spike protruding from the head-board and badly disguised by a misplaced band-aid(!) on which I could accidently hurt myself badly during sleep. Well, there’s a new one! None of the four electricity outlets in one of the rooms was in order. Not much English spoken (but Ihave to admit that my knowledge in Laotian is even worse, though)
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location Mostly clean
Cons: Weak WiFi (good in all the neighbouring restaurants) Would have liked a top sheet - not just a blanket
6.3 Good
Pros: The location is great with a perfect view along the river. Sunset is especially nice in the hammocks. The property, like the whole island, is very quiet. The rooms are large, but bare bones and there are holes in the floor, cracks under the door. But really, the room was adequate. Just not for the price...
Cons: Too expensive. Many places nearby were cheaper and nicer. Check in and check out was hell because there was no one around. Seriously, no signs or sign of people. Our toilet wasn't working well, but again, there was no one to talk to. We were also charged a higher rate when checking out than initially booked for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location right on the river. Great hammocks
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - lovely balcony (hammocks) - very clean room - nice bathroom - great view
Cons: - Don Khone Island is very empty in the low season (hard to find good restaurants, bars,...) - in the evening it is quite hard to contact the owners
8.0 Excellent
Pros: a nice little spot to stay for a fair few days plenty of nice restaurants close by.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great hammock with a view of the Mekong River, super lovely staff and great breakfast and dinner in the attached restaurant! For this price, it's a treat!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Quiet,big bed
Cons: You can find the same quality for half the price if you go to Don Det. Breakfast 5 $...very expensive .we had it in another place for 2$ full... The staff closes everything very soon.when we arrived the 2nd night, there was no wifi and no light in my room.Nobody there to ask for help...They made us a 2$ discount in a 2nights 2 rooms reservation...not very happy
5.5 Okay
Pros: good location in quiet Don Khone
Cons: The staff were cold and not welcoming, food was way overpriced, internet was bad, the room did not meet our value for money expectation, very thin walls, we don't recommend.

7.5 Good
Pros: The room was clean and the lights and fan worked. The hammocks outside were amazing and had a gorgeous view. The room and bathroom etc were bog standard for a place on Don Det so good value for money.
Cons: It was about 20 minutes to walk to town (where most of the restaurants are) which is just by the ferry at the northern top of the island. The mosquito net wasn’t great but we found there were almost no insects inside so it didn’t matter.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The family are so lovely. The hammocks, the view, the food, the easy way of life.
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful cheap
Cons: Some ants
6.8 Good
Pros: The scenery and the surrounding farms are nice.
Cons: A bit small for a couple. And little far from the ferry.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious bungalows over the Mekong. Friendly staff.
Cons: The GH is quite far from the center Absolutely not soundproof.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We booked a bungalow for a night and ended up staying a week! It was lovely - basic but clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We also hired bikes from here most days for 10,000k a day and they were great. It was about a 20 minute walk to the main town, but the location is beautiful and peaceful, so if that’s what you’re looking for I’d definitely recommend staying here. Amazing value.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: perfekt place to relax. the hammocks in front of the rooms are super and the bed is comfortable. insect net is in the room. people are really nice and rocket booking is available, as well as bikes.
Cons: Cleaness is not perfekt but i think Island standard and you just don't care.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The bed was super comfortable, great spot to lounge on the balcony with hammocks when the breeze came through and relax. Mosquito net was really handy & really peaceful at night. nice & friendly staff. Was a cute little bungalow
Cons: No hot water for showers. Extremely hot in the room during the day, thank god for the fan but in 36deg heat it didn’t do much. The gaps in the walls meant the bugs came in at night As it was a wooden room, the noise from the small street, the roosters and the boats on the water made it impossible to sleep past 6am. The staff cannot help this but if you are not a morning person be warned.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best place on the river!.. Nice house nice people nice price!❤️
Cons: Nothing its lovely, may not leave!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is the best place ever!Everyone who stays here just stays twice as long as they intended.. they are the best family and take you in like
Cons: Its all amazing
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Paradise Riverview Resort in Don Det, you'll be 9 minutes by car from Historic Bridge, Don Det - Don Khon. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
5.5 Okay
Cons: Breakfast was sub par for price of hotel
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast wasn't bad albeit some communications difficulties with some of the staff, unless you wanted a fried egg of course! Location of the place is good and within walking distance of the jetty with several options locally for food and drink. Rooms themselves are OK (once you get the right one - see below) albeit bathrooms not great, nor the showers and hot water is hit and miss. To be fair though, at least the air conditioning worked ok.
Cons: Firstly, I was given the wrong room, and because the owner was away on business in Pakse, the boy left in charge refused point blank to let me change to the riverfront location I had booked despite the fact I produced Booking.com documentary evidence confirming my reservation. Even more frustrating was seeing the correct room sat there empty. So for 2 days (until the owner returned) of our 4 day visit, I was in a room with no view and a tiny balcony looking onto the rear of the building in front. The other main issue was we were then surcharged 3% on the bill because we were paying by credit card. This was neither mentioned in the original booking, nor in several e mail exchanges with the property before we arrived. NB. I was told I could pay by credit card but no mention of any surcharge. I have reported this to Booking.com There are no ATM's on Don Det and although we managed to minimise the surcharge effect by stumping up what cash we had, this effectively cleaned us out of most of our dollars we needed for our forthcoming Siem Reap stay. Left a bad taste in the mouth. Thirdly, my shower didn't work, and even though it was eventually fixed after complaining (I had to drag the owner into the shower cubicle to prove my point as I was told I wasn't operating it properly) once working, the water was only tepid. Not a great issue given the ambient temperature and at least I was able to boil the kettle to shave, but very poor given the cost of the rooms. I was actually traveling with my adult son btw but there is no means of reflecting this through the review submission page.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice riverside setting. Close to but at rear of main thoroughfare. Given position surprisingly quiet.
Cons: Water supply failed for several hours but was reconnected eventually. Don't think this was a general problem
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice bungalow on the river, relaxing and quiet, given that surrounding can be noisy. The owners very attentive and helpful. My arrival was outside the regular hours and everything was well organised. Also convenient to organise yours with the owner. His wife, Hian, took me to the local market, which was really nice.
Cons: A bit difficult to communicate with staff who don’t speak English and can be terribly slow with breakfast unless closely supervised by the owners. Otherwise all was fine and nothing spoiled my two weeks enjoying myself.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice clean room. Comfy beds and air conditioning was a gem! Really nice location, great views on the river. It wasn't as nice as I thought it would be for the money I paid but that seems to be the whole island. Would have stayed another night if it weren't for the price.
Cons: The power cut out a few times but we are on an island and it wasn't just our hotel. The bathroom drain didn't work but we didn't shower till late at night so it was too late to get someone to fix it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view from the balcony. Nice food. Sweet space and great location. Staff were nice .
Cons: The pillows were too big and uncomfortable to sleep. We stayed in a bungalow facing the river and we got a little cockroach in the first night but never to be seen again which is understandable as we were in an island.
6.8 Good
Pros: The location was good - the little cabin was fine - lovely verandah right on the river . The tour operation was excellent and we went on a dolphin watch and waterfall one which was great .
Cons: The restaurant was empty every night except when we ate there - the food was not up to much and the breakfast was very haphazard to say the least . There was a sewer malfunction whilst we were there which they did fix but it did result in a disgusting smell for a while . And the pillows were so big and hard that you couldn’t really use them!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was fabulous! It's hard to find a nice bungalow with ac and hot water right on the river, but river view resort has just that! All the other bungalows we saw on the river were very basic but this one was great. It was clean, has hot water, great view, and ac. The breakfast was yummy also and the restaurant makes good food. The staff were all very friendly. We wanted to extend our stay but they were all booked out. Highly recommended!
Cons: Nothing
4.5 Okay
Pros: Views.
Cons: No power for whole of last night, yet managed to have power for their power tools to work on construction for all 3 days. Breakfast service a bit random. Noise as mentioned from 3 days of drilling, sawing etc right outside our room.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Big bed, a/c
Cons: Small room, noisy, holes in the floor, broken toilets

Pros: Good location, next to the boat jetty. Relaxed and nice restaurant at the river. Included breakfast with three choices. Large ac room . Hammock in front of ac room. Quiet. Friendly owners. I was glad that there was no constant music playing at the restaurant. The music came in the right dose, once in a while. Thank god they didnt play any western crowd pleasing music but local Lao music instead.
Cons: Towels were not really clean. The room cleaning service was not good. Laundry service was expensive and T shirts were not really clean when returned. The otherwise comfortable cushions on the floor of the restaurants are in need of regular dusting and washing.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Nice grounds- comfy beds
Cons: Cleanliness needs upgrading No toilet paper or toiletries Air con needs cleaning so works better Staff need training in quality control and English When we arrived we were tired unpacked bags came out and no service for drink or any food waited 30 mins and gave up walked to town Breakfast wasn’t even close to what was displayed on menu Washing wasn’t done very well came back all crippled and uncared for The general service and care needs to be upgraded German guy drunk and at times rude shouldn’t be there like that Rooms dirty No free water upon arrival Property has potential with love and care

Pros: Breakfast was great! Location on the river was beautiful.
Cons: A bit challenging having only one small wall fan during hot season.
7.0 Good
Pros: The bungalows by the river have an amazing setting and I loved sitting in a hammock there. The free breakfast was really brilliant. The bungalows were spacious both inside and out and had mosquito nets for the beds.
Cons: Even though these are the more rustic bungalows I think they could’ve been cleaner in terms of cobwebs and spiders, there were a few in our room and just a good dust would have made it so much better. The bungalows were very hot. I don’t think the property is the best value for money, you do pay more on the island for the riverside but there are rooms to be found for 50,000-100,000kip a night instead with air con which personally suited us better for our remaining nights. The more modern rooms over the road at Mr Thos look lovely, maybe worth paying the extra for those!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really nice breakfast pancakes with coffee and smoothie included. Very friendly owners with tour and ticket info, bicycle rental next door. Room was big with a/c had WiFi. Restaurant is right on top of the river so it has great views
Cons: It is a 20 minute walk from the main pier but it would have been good to know the name of the pier right next to me thos so we could ask the boat from the mainland to drop us off.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kindest service, delicious breakfast, incredible view (recommend waking up before sunrise and watching it from the Hammock), I already want to go back there !!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was well versed in english. Great breakfast
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: The staff that was on was so drunk he couldnt even check me in as he had passed out. I then had to find a local man at 7pm to help me find someone that worked thier to help me, but the only one there was the drunk man he could even walk or understandwhat I was saying so the local man put him to bed and checked me into a random room, the room was dirty one pillow had blood on it and another blankets had blood on it, there was also bird poo on my bed.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good chilled atmosphere. Decent prices
Cons: Split 3 rooms with 5 other friends. 2 rooms were way nicer than the one on the river. It still had a toilet and 2 beds with bug nets, but for 2$ more the other rooms were way nicer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything about our stay here! Great breakfast (choice of 3 sets including hot drink, smoothie, hot food and a fruit plate!), lovely, helpful owners, beautiful view of the river and really comfy beds. We will 100% return whenever we make it back to Don Det!

Pros: The location of the hotel is good, being right amongst a number of restaurants and travel agents. It was good to have air-conditioning.
Cons: The restaurant staff were slow & the food only average, the attached travel agency was seldom staffed, & the room was really too small for a double bed.
