The Thistle City Barbican Hotel is one of few hotels located in London's 'Square Mile,' a district famous for being home to the city's stock exchange. For obvious reasons, the hotel is ideal for business travelers, but it also offers terrific proximity to the art and culture hubs of central London, along with more eclectic neighborhoods to the east.
Amenities and Services
The Thistle City Barbican hotel is expertly equipped for meetings and business events of all sizes. Its thirteen meeting rooms boast LCD projectors and screens, and complimentary Wi-Fi is offered throughout the hotel. Both business travelers and those on vacation will enjoy the Otium Heath & Leisure Club, which offers an indoor pool and sauna. A mix of British and other European dishes are served for breakfast and dinner at the on-site 120 Central Brasserie, while the hotel's Bar 120 and CoMotion Bar are excellent for a drink and a light meal, or a coffee, respectively.
Guests are sure to enjoy performances by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre, which is within walking distance of Thistle City Barbican. The markets, vintage shops, and independent bars and restaurants of the hip East London neighborhood Shoreditch are all nearby, and several convenient Underground stations make it easy to travel elsewhere in the city.
The room was small but functional. The concierge service and front desk were excellent, prompt and courteous and very, very helpful. Maid service was timely and appropriate. Breakfast buffet was excellent and filled with numerous choices and always very fresh. Dinner menu was limited but all choices were appetizing and enjoyed.
The wifi service was hard to sign on, if you had good virus protection and was OPEN and therefore not secure. However, the hotel staff helped me a great deal in learning the necessary technique to sign on, and helped me several times with it thereafter. I would have preferred a password protected and secure wifi service which surprisingly was available at several local restaurants.
very clean, staff helpful, perfect location for us to visit family living two blocks away
small room- bed uncomfortable-carpet frayed- room noisy due to the family next door- after they checked out things much better
The staff was very plesant. The hotel location was well suited for my purpose in visiting London
The mattress was very hard. I talked to the staff and they provided a softer mattress.
Staff were very nice
The single room I had was very small and bathroom was almost impossible to use as it is far too small.
good location for Barbican.
We booked the stay at this hotel because we believed it would be perfectly placed for the Barbican Centre, but despite the name it was at least 20 minutes walk from the Centre
the first room standard was very bad ,old furniture, small, very noise,no safe,no air condition, really terrible. however went to reception made a complain and got an up grade on a nice room.my opinium this old building must be repaired as soon as possible as difference is huge.
Had a hard time finding the hotel
room was small & grubby
Only hotel convenient to where I needed to be. Bar and dining most adequate.
Some of bathroom fittings did not function well
The room was clean and quiet - we didn't stay long enough to use any facilities so cannot comment on them.
Staff not very helpful on checking in - I had left my reservation number in the car and insisted I had to get it - by the time I got back they had checked my wife in by confirmimg our post code.
Shower curtain kept falling down
