location in the rainforest, hiking trail Value for money was not as expected. For the price the amenities and conditions of the rooms was pretty basic. There is rustic, which is fine, but basic for the price paid was not as expected. Night staffing wasn't very receptive.
You can have fine dining and a full service spa after a walk through the forest just steps from your room. Warm during the day, showers cool the afternoon for a lovely breeze at night, perfect for stargazing. Beautiful chapel as part of the property is converted for special events.
We went during the rainy season, so it felt as if we had this hotel to ourselves. Actually one evening we did! The staff was amazing. They have a movie theater that they normally have scheduled movies, but they let us pick out a movie we wanted to watch. Free breakfast every morning. Since there were so few people there, we got to pick from the list of foods served during their buffets and they made it fresh. All the veggies are grown there at the hotel. They also have a dairy farm there so I had the best sour cream ever. We had a few tours scheduled away from the hotel, and even though we had to drive a bit, the hotel staff made sure we were comfortable. Also, they upgraded our room to a villa. It had a fireplace, huge bathtub, and beautiful view! I cannot say enough good things about this hotel!
The entire experience was a nightmare. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with rudeness, and the owner/manager by the name of Magda did not want to accept our reservation because we booked it through Kayak. She then went on to scam Kayak/Hotel.com and charge an extra $40 for a room, that she told us would be nice. Upon entering this room we were greeted by a horrible stench, bugs, and an overall dirty room. The beds had some type of stains on them that were unimaginable. The room had no towels, and upon opening the toilet, there were large red ants everywhere. Stay away!!!
