Comfortable bed and the room is clean. Staffs are friendly too. If the hotel is located in PuXi whould be better.
I had a very pleasant stay, staff was very friendly especially on Horizon club. My dining experience at Nadaman was execellent mainly due to staff.
This hotel was great in terms of cleanliness and helpful staff. The rooms were very nice (although the single is just that, a small room), and cable TV was a plus (although for English-speakers, your choices are CNN International, HBO, and CCTV 9). The staff was also very helpful, although their English is somewhat limited (but better than average I thought). There is also 24-hour security and room service, although I never tried it. Of course, with the price that travel website offered, this hotel is an excellent pick, except for one thing: location. The location of this hotel is in Xuhui District, Shanghai, which is not bad. But it is at least a 20-minute walk to the nearest subway station (either Damuqiao Rd or Luban Rd Stations) each way, and at night when it is freezing (in the winter) or when you are lugging your luggage, or when trying to catch a train (by subway, it is at least 40 minutes to Shanghai Main Railroad Station, and around 30 to Shanghai South), it is not necessarily fun. In the immediate area, there are absolutely no landmarks or anything worthwhile, except for the Shanghai Public Security Museum, which I never went into. There is a McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and a few local restaurants immediately across the street (one of which, next to Pizza Hut, while a little expensive relatively, is incredible!), but that is about it (the next batch of local restaurants are near the subway stations). Overall, if you can tolerate the walk to the subway (or you plan to use a taxi or other means), then definitely go for this hotel. However, if you plan to depend on the subway for all of your travels, then you may want to consider something more centrally located.
We completed the trip to Shanghai in November 2010. Location of hotel is convenient but its appeal is not impressive at all. The neighborhood is full of over-spill sewage smell like most other Shanghai neighborhoods except Pudong New Area. We booked a room in the main building on the 30th floor. The room was clean but with two major discrepancies. Even when we set the aircon to cool #40not heat#41 only warm air came out and the room temperature kept going up beyond 28 degree C. The shower was cheaply renovated in early 2010 with no shower tub only two pieces of placey-glass glued to the floor. Water leaked out under the door into the bath room the small tiles covering the shower floor kept coming lose and the shower door handle was seriously rusted. Luckily Shanghai was my wifes birthplace and we speak both Mandarin and Shanghaiese so communicating with staff was not a problem. After 5 days we checked out around 9 am and the maid showed up within 10 minutes insisted that we have to get out immediately.
It was very frustrating for me that they couldn't speak english and clearly they were not understanding what were my needs. When I checked in, they put me in a 'second' building which is for extended stays. It was not the most luxurious room but it was clean and had what you need. Very small though. Anyways, I thought I could deal with it until I found out that there was no internet conection. I called them and explained what was the situation and NO ACTION was taken. I asked to talk to the manager and after 5 different call transfers, I got to the manager. The manager did not speak english very well and in his broken english he said they were going to send an 'engineer.' After 5 calls and the last one was not very polite, the engineer came and they found out that there was no service at all. They gave me another room in their 'main' building which seemed to be more a hotel room. I can't complain about this as it was a nice hotel room.It is clean, it is very close to the expo , it is just one block from the Metro (subway) and one station from the EXPO station. It is very easy to get a taxi out from there. Great location, there are small plazas where you can get some food, but just remember they will NOT speak english which can be really frustrating and in general they are NOT friendly. Now, I think that the rate is affordable. Depends on what you are looking for, if you just want to go to the expo- this is ok...if you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy....this is not the best choice.
During my stay, I feel very comforatable. I can walk out to the nearby restaurants to eat what I want. There is a gym for table tennis across the hotel which is very handy for me . Nearby the Gym there is a large local supermarket store, pretty much you can buy any food or necessity there. From Pudong airport, take #3 airport bus costs 20RMB to get there. The bus stop is just across the street,a walking distance. Also from this stop, you can take the same bus to go to Xu Jia Hui big shopping mall. only one bus stop away. Next time I go to Shanghai, I would consider staying at the same hotel.
The room is too small. This is not a 4-star standard hotel The bed is only 90 cm wide, and is short. The equipment is old. The window is a little dirty This room can not match its price in any sense. The pic of the hotel is not real, not in the same level with other hotel in China. The most important thing, the attitude of the staff we met for check-in is. terrible. You can made little adjustment after you check in Hoping other visitor check the hotel before you go.
good location but room was too small do not feel confortable with security.
the room was very small and the bed as hard as a rock but for the price and convenient location it was ok.
The hotel is in a really nice central area, close to the subway station and shopping mall. The room have hair-dryers, fridge and internet (although internet is not free). Very good price-quality.
The lobby is a grand receiving area. The daily treats corner is excellent for afternoon snacks and quick bite on the run. The breakfast buffet is grand and delicious.
Room situation was excellent. Facilities- mediocre at best. The gym was fine but the pool was abysmal. Service- I get that the service in China is bad, I get it. But come on, train your service better. I couldn't get a taxi for half an hour, and the guy outside was trying to get a taxi for me. If they were smart, they would have called a taxi through phone.
Great location. Spacious and very comfortable room. Staff was very helpful.
Very friendly staff. Good location. Very good response to queries and extremely helpful. They do not vacuum the room during your entire stay.
The hotel overall was very comfortable and was conveniently located to restaurants and stores. I was disapppointed that the bus service to the airport was canceled, and thus was forced to pay the higher service fees of a taxi to go to the airport.
room cleanliness lousy breakfast
An exellent hotel with very good facilities. Its location is in a nice part of Shanghai and very handy to other stes.
Location is good That is not 5 star hotel!
Location, nice and comfortable rooms Reception not organised, I have some problem during check in. Breakfast price is far above your 13,5 USD ( 178 RMB - 25 USD aprox)
as always its just a good mid priced option for business and pleasure with good staff and good service o
I unfortunately did not spend much time in the hotel, but I slept very well, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom spacious. I was given a smokers' room and so was not very happy with the smell!
the bed was very comfortable The carpet in the hallway was dirty
Staff in coffee area in particular very good Room was a little too warm, don't air con was able to blow cold air
Good views and location
everything went well I can only propose to take ths hotel. it is very central - no high taxi fees are required.
The location and the hotel facilities were very good. Misunderstandings with staff all the time. Level of English pretty low. I guess it's China experience overall.
Kindness of staff; good location;pleasant rooms & kind service Staff not so experienced regarding follow up buffet; food on buffet mostly luke warm;cuttlery missing; ac often too cold, on 50th floor music too loud and not adequate for breakfast; smoking department next to the food
The hotel room is nice and well-equipped,. The hotel is located in French Concession, an interesting - and greener - part of Shanghai with lots of fashion shops, cafés, restaurants I would have expected that internet access was complimentary; this is the case in many other Chinese 4 and 5 star hotels
I regularly stay here for business. In the past couple of visits there are an increasing number of prostitutes in the lobby and harrassing your guests when you get into the lifts to go to your room.Your lobby staff should not let these girls into the Hotel .
Location Out dated
We like the location at the business area of Shanghai within a working distance. Difficulty in calling taxi and some of the facility is getting old.
Very stylish hotel - great rooms spacious and very comfortable . Central location. The hotel has a very good reputation and will impress your Chinese clients. Excellent for meetings . The Garden Hotel is the smaller of the buildings in the complex and has personal feel,. I especially liked the lobby area and green space outside The heating was difficult to control.
Location is amazing: 2min walk from main shopping street, hotel staff are very responsive + nice, breakfast is ok (though a lot of warm Asian stuff) I took the Cathay Gardens Lux room, non-garden view, where you get a view on the "local Chinese neighbourhood", incl strong odeur of cooking which gets into the room when you air during the day.
location, comfort, Staf spoke very ppor english. The restaurant at the Jinjang gardens was very mediocre and always empty.
Good gym and pool, the hotel staff very attentive and the room always got cleaned as soon as I left it. The building I stayed in was far away from the road and pedestrian access was awkward and required a long walk to get out on the street. There was also problems with getting taxis to come to the hotel entrance for the same reason. On check-in the hotel tried to pre-authorise my card for an amount that was almost 50% higher than the room cost. On pointing this out they changed it to a more sensible amount and there was no problem.
location hard to find bellboys, always staying in group of two and do not pay too much attention for guest's needs
The location was ideal for me. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom had very good amenities. The front desk staff was very courteous. The staff at breakfast was a bit rushed.
Hotel was clean and had good views and a nice pool. Check-in staff (Chloé) was very incompetent/lazy, refused to get another employee who spoke better english and insisted on trying to speak to my partner in Chinese. Left a very bad first impression of this hotel.
Staff was discourteous , they intentionally tried to push a bad quality small room to us . When we bluntly refused to accept the small room, and told that we would not stay in this property, they offer other better room, however still on lower floor . Overall a good property but extremely bad employees attitude, pushing bad rooms 1st to customers. Not expected from such chain of hotels
Spacious room Luxurious decorations an furniture Kind staff Centric location Amazing sky bar In my rate was not included breakfast, and I feel I pay a lot per night Rooms were not cleaned up throughly every day
Very nice staff !
The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. Was upgraded on check-in to a Suite. The room was in good condition with plenty of room. I would stay there again. Nothing I didn't like, Maud provided cplimentary bottled water daily which was nice.
Very good location, no problem with early check in . You can take the subway (metro) from the airport (Line 2) to the hotel door (People Square station). Safety is poor. Anyone can access the elevator. No security and no need to use the room key to get the lift.
Excellent room service and cleaning Staffs english could have been better. Receiving messages was a problem.
Veiw ,room space, bufe, recriation area, guest mix, communication. No fruits in room,no change of bed sheets daily,no up grade incentive when long stay if occupancy is low
Central location and overall physical ambiance inside the hotel. Easy excess from Airport The front desk staff was extremely rude. I stayed in this hotel when it was managed by Sheraton group and the staff was excellent. Jin Jiang is a large hotelier group and should look into the matter seriously
Excellent Hotel staff. This is the first time that I see staff on the reception asking politely rude Chinese customers to wait their turn. As you know in China there is a habit to immediately shout your question to the staff, even if they are busy with other customers. China has still a long way to go to educate their citizens to wait their turn, no matter how important they think they are.
The 24hour Deli, location to Metro and very helpful staff.
The only complaint I have about this hotel is that their internet service only is available for PC-users (Windows) but not to Mac-users (OS).
Convenience of location
I had some routine wishes staff dealt with this properly, also all staff spoke adeate english
The location because it was near the shanghai stadium where i had business in. Staff were not very friendly. I must point out that the facilities were a bit old already. I understand that it's a bit of an old hotel already but facilities should be kept well maintained. For instance, it was such a disappointment that the shower drainage in our bathroom was clugged. and the towels were not changed even if we had placed them in the tub already. Housekeeping just folded the same towels and placed them back on the towel rack. Service didn't meet our standards.
Great location. When we arrive our room was not ready and the front desk did a double take on our reservation itinerary.
Good breakfast variety. Reliable internet. Bathroom amenities (soap etc) have improved since last year. Maintenance crew noisy in middle of the night. Wake-up call was an hour late one morning. Showers a bit leaky into the bathroom.
A fairly genuine five star hotel with well appointed rooms including the "standard" amenities, restaurants and facilities. Location in the heart of Pudong's business area suited my needs well. Complimentary WIFI is a bit irritating in the it required constant re-logging on even inside the 24 hour day - none of the various location logins remembers you. The spa is mediocre with relatively poor service and the pool is far from the expected comfortable resort hangout but rather like a small town community pool where you are given a gross looking community bathing cap before entering the water. While I realize that I'm in a foreign country the overall level of English speaking (understanding) in public areas is below expectations for this class of international hotel. A $ 133.00 charge for a 3 hour late checkout.
Excelent design, great location, friendly staff most of them. expensive eatting in the hotel, staff need to be more skillful with foreign languages. Even if 9 out of ten staff was great, friendly and polite, just the bad attitude of the tenth was enough to destroy the image of the team.
The location is great but most rooms have no views. The products provided is top of the line and the jazz bar, though did not play jazz when we were there, is a nice old time Shanghai fair. The facility is older even after the renovation. The switches are so over-used that one is hard to read what the switch is for. The shower room insulation is old so that water leaks to the toilet area whenver the shower is used.
- Good breakfast selection Oldfashion shower
spa was very nice and all staff were extremely helpful - definitely a pleasant place to be based out of, and a very central location for such a big, spread out city. lobby slightly dated, but possible it was just Chinese sense of decor. Recommend signing up for breakfast package, as we did not and ended up paying $50/breakfast for 2 which is ridiculously expensive over there
the people working there really try their best and the service is excellent.
The location of the hotel is good. The pictures shown in bookin.com website is different from waht we got. the rooms needs refubishment.
Location and convenience to subway and expressway. The shower was the worst that I had experienced in many hotels and that water smelled foul. It was impossible to regulate the water temperature. If I had more time I would have switched rooms.
Location, price/quality, gourmet corner! Room service comes very early (7.00-8.00 in the morning)
the room was very comfortable - perfect location for exploring around shanghai. only stayed 1 night as a stop over before continuing on my journey, but gym was very good. i arrived at around 9am - normally check in is at 2pm; i asked if they could accommodate me; they said they could, but i would have to pay half a day extra!!! i have done this before at other hotels and never been an issue. also, first check in counter the staff said no room available so i waited an extra half hour and spoke to someone else who said there was a room available! crazy! also rooms looking a bit dated now, but otherwise comfortable; and yes i did pay the extra half a day! :(
Great executive lounge, comfortable rooms, friendly personnel. The bathrooms still no separate shower and very small
Modern, great service,, good food and wine. Convent to city and shopping. I will stay again.
should be free no $21/day
Closed to city center. Staff friendly. Have to modernize furniture of the room.
Gleaming interiors, eye-catching design, large spacious rooms, comfortable bed (believe me, it's not to be taken for granted in China), central location (less than 5 metro stops from Nanjing Street and People's Park), free broadband in the rooms. Very presitgious neighbourhood. Breakfast at Nikko was almost thrice the price at the nearby Starbucks; so, save your money even though the breakfast spread is large. Not much of a view from the city side or the garden side. The Garden view is not worth paying extra for; I have seen far better Chinese/Japanese gardens.
Room nice and comfortable. Pool, gym and spa are fabulous, not to be missed! Breakfast included was just right. Although not completely central, the location was not bad and allowed easy transport around the city. Not all the staff was as helpful as expected in a 5 star hotel. Breakfast food choices were not that wide. Entrance to the hotel is a bit unfriendly for people walking into it.
Enjoyed the stay in a comfortable room, especially the bathroom. Using wire to connect to the internet.
Nice room and courteous staff Checking out took much longer than I expected as there were insufficient staff at the counter.
Had a very nice stay at the Nikko Hotel Shanghai. Due to an early arrival (9AM), my reserved room was not yet ready, upon which I got upgraded to an Executive Suite. Very nice room and very nice gesture. All in all, the Nikko Hotel is a very new hotel, with good rooms and a very nice breakfast selection. Booking.com rate was 1000 rmb + 15%tax, including breakfast, which was a very good rate vs walk in. Jiansu Metro station (line 2) is about 10 minutes walking (down Yan An road, and up Jiansu street). Hotel had problems / no experience processing a Visa credit card with chip (was obliged to withdraw and pay in cash). Temperature of airconditioning was set very low / cold. Yan An road (elevated highway)is not really inviting to go for a walk.
the ritz club lounge the pool was closed without notice, no Spa and people were allowed in the club lounge without even being guests of the ritz.
Front desk could not locate booking made on hotels.com
This facility offers very comfortable beds and an excellent morning breakfast buffet. It's my go-to hotel when I am in Shanghai on business. My room had a clear space for an iron, but it was missing. The hair dryer was cracked and broken, though it still operated. The shower door did not close well, and after every usage, there would be a significant puddle of water on the floor outside the shower (or a fully soaked towel).
This place had quite poor level comparing to other RITZ hotels I used to stay in. Breakfast was awful.
The location is great.
I really like the door guy, he new my friends name, even though he had not stayed in the hotel for 9 months. All the staff was friendly and the location was perfect. Location
Staff very available and kind; the hotel is quiet, close to shopping area and places of interest
Nice, well furnished, comfy rooms. Professional staff. Good variety for breakfast. Coffee maker not the easiest to operate. OK location. Difficult to find taxi but ready access to Metro. Not the most helpful concierge.
If you want to use subway, its one block away. Shopping is right in front of hotel.
Clean & big room. Comfortable interior decoration. Attitude of staff in reception isn't like 5 star hotel. Not enough hot water to take bath.
Very comfortable hotel, superb attention to detail, very friendly staff nothing
Modern, clean and efficient. Good location and public transportation, such as the MRT Subway, is just a few steps away. The main restaurant on the 2nd floor offers an excellent buffet breakfast with great international food variety ; however, the staff needs to be more pro-active to ensure an efficient service. On several occasions there were no tables available, not because they were occupied by other guests but because they were not clean. The waiters, seems to be waiting for something to happen because some of them are not pro-active enough, seems they are waiting for instructions, or maybe they prefer to remain in their "comfort zone".
Clean, Modern, Great Water Pressure AC & Heater is very noisy (it won't allow you to sleep at night), Bathroom has see through window so no privacy from the room, beds are very hard, not enough plugs for computers, iPhones, iPads, etc.
We had a very good stay in the Swissothel non!
The hotel is modern and almost perfectly located in the Jing'An district of Shanghai. It is a 5 min walk to the Subway station and around the corner from a number of great eateries both Chinese and Western. Travel time to places like the Bund/Concessions and Financial District are less than 30 mins by Taxi even less by Subway. Most of the staff speak some English which was not always the case in other 5-star hotels in China. Concierge was well informed and more helpful than the average as well. Another reviewer mentioned that they didn't like the hard beds. I like the firm, yet comfortable mattresses they have. All 5-star hotels in China provide you with two bottles of drinking water per day. Swissotel's bottles were actually half-bottles. This is really nit-picking but I couldn't think of anything else I didn't like!
Easy to get to by the metro, this hotel was a great value. Very nice rooms and a friendly staff, I very much enjoyed my stay. Easy walking to restaurants, the Jing An Temple and shopping.
All the staffs were excellent Nothing
the location of the hotel , the bathroom was not so clean
location is good. and hotel itself is classic. food disappointing. also altho room non smoking, the hotel is full of smokers and smoke in the public areas.
