Pros: This was an excellent accommodation, minutes walk from the centre of town an up the hill enough that we had a nice view of Punta Arenas. We highly recommend walking up the hill as well as there’s a little cafe Sarmiento which was delicious and also had a very nice view. The staff were lovely and everything was as expected.

Cons: The apartment is on the hill.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Two bedrooms for a family. It was spacious for an apartment. Main bedroom has a bit of water view. Bed was comfortable. Kitchen has decent stove, fridge although we didn't cook. The location is quiet and walkable to town centre. We walked from our bus.
Cons: Street front has no appeal, it's hard to find up the hill a bit on an unpaved road. Parking looks a bit difficult although we didn't have a car. Could offer some breakfast, we had trouble finding some with the weird hours of Punta arenas cafes and shops.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great host great appartment. Oscar helped us in requesting an airport taxi. Also take care of our luggage after check in. Thank you Oscar.

Hotel Ilaia - Punta Arenas - Building
5
9.7 Excellent (43 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Punta Arenas, Hotel Ilaia is within a 15-minute walk of Palacio Sara Braun and Santuario Maria Auxiliadora. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a very nice place with wonderful atmosphere. Everything is clean, well maintained. Nice design of the rooms as well as common areas. Fantastic breakfast, great and highly individualized customer service which is rather uncommon in this part of the world. The common space in the lobby is very nice, but the chill out room on the roof with the view of the ocean over the roof tops is ideal for a yoga practice as well as for a relaxing with a coffee or a glass of wine. The quality of the served breakfast is very high as well as the selection of coffee and teas which are available in the breakfast area all through out the stay.
Cons: The design of the bathrooms is very nice, but there are few shortcomings on the practicality side. The head of the rain shower is a bit low so if you have more then 180 cm you will have to bend your head to in order to fit under it. Since the shower does not have door, lots of water spills out of the shower.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Helpful friendly relaxed stylish modern tasteful calm
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff makes this property. They are lovely and extremely helpful. The vibe of the hotel is "yoga retreat". There is a top floor overlooking the city for yoga--or drink a glass of wine (like I did). Bed and bathroom were very comfortable. Common areas inviting to relax in and meet other travelers.
Cons: The wifi good in common areas, not in the rooms. Bring a repeater if you have one. Walls a little thin, can hear other guests talking and walking if you are a light sleeper--but no too bothersome. The walks to the restaurants is not complicated, but takes about 10min. Unfortunately I was present during times of local protest. Though I felt safe, no evidence of theft or crimes to travelers, it was sad to witness. You must walk past some of these areas to get to restaurants. To be safe as a solo female traveler, I just walked in the day and cabbed it at night (cabs are plenty and cheap).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The graciousness of the staff and the warm, inviting public spaces were exceptional — especially the intimate rooftop gathering room for wine and conversation.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast with avocado, fresh cheese, jam, honey, yogurt, etc. Super nice staff all around - gave us the best recommendations for dinner. Lovely calm friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed the rooftop as well!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely small hotel with warm, welcoming staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fresh and tasty. Sunroom at the top was lovely with great view.

Pros: The restaurant, the views, the decor of the place were superior.
Cons: We were promised a panoramic view, but the view was only from the balcony, not the room itself.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Reception staff excellent. Restaurant staff in evening a bit dozy. Hotel and our room had beautiful view over town. Room slightly small but had all necessary facilities and very clean. Excellent choices of food at breakfast and dinner.
Cons: Service at dinner could have been a bit more organised. It took half an hour for our drinks to arrive.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very original decoration. Beautiful view on the town and the sea. Friendly and very accommodating staff (e.g. early breakfast)
7.1 Good
Pros: Nice view over the town and only a short walk to the main square. Comfy bed and linen, good WiFi.
Cons: I stayed for 4 nights over Christmas and was looking forward to being totally looked after fed and watered. Christmas Eve dinner was awful every course was either poor taste or cold. I was sat opposite the door in from the kitchen which is a road haulage container and as it faces the sea it was very cold where in the end I just gave up and went to bed early. Christmas morning breakfast was the worst breakfast in Memory. My Omelette was 2 whisked eggs fried both sides and then tomato and cheese put in the middle the whole thing sat on my plate dripping in grease. I complained and things did get better on subsequent breakfast put just not worth the money they charge and more surprisingly no one apologised or offered me a free drink to make up for it really terrible and would suggest to look at other options in town before booking this inconsistent hotel.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This gorgeous hotel was a real surprise for us. I had read reviews but I was delighted to see the design when we arrived. It's very lovingly designed and there is real charm in the entire place. Our room was perfect. We could sit on the terrace or the inside terrace and read whilst looking out over the city. The bed was insanely comfortable and everything was spotless. The restaurant is also great, if a little pricey. I loved the slippers!
Cons: The hill up to the hotel is a bit tricky if trailing suitcases.

Cons: Not applicable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfortable! They have a little living room space available to guests that has incredible views of the city. It was a lovely place to spend an hour or two and enjoy more space than would be available in your room. Breakfasts were great! The staff was wonderful, everyone was really helpful and very friendly! It was so close to Cafe Sarmiento, one of our fav places in Punta Arenas!
Cons: The heat was a little challenging to regulate, sometimes the room got very warm, sometimes too chilly. The location is a little tough for going out for dinner - you have a big hill to walk up when you have to head home!

Pros: Cute and convenient. Less than 10 minutes walk from Bus Sur terminal stop and the Solo Expediciones office for penguin tour. Also the best restaurant, La Marmita, is just around the block. Staff are all very friendly and helpful with tourism advice and calling taxis.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff and good location
Cons: The room only had a window that looked onto the stairs and we could hear every person coming and going. The building is old and noisy, creaking floor boards and no privacy whatsoever. The price paid was higher than the quality of the hostal. It felt more like an upgraded backpackers hostel.

Cons: Tiny breakfast room and skimpy breakfast.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, good staff, good cost performance
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved staying here! One big factor was Miguel’s (the owner) winning nature. This guy made the effort to take English classes in order to be able to talk to all of his guests. We felt right at home :-)
Cons: Miguel, if you ever think about changing anything about this lovely place, maybe you could make the walls a bit thicker. We heard you snore once ;-P
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Miguel greeted us with a big smile at 3am, 6 hours later than planned because of delayed travel. We were only there for 1 night on our way further north. Miguel is great, so friendly and helpful. Good budget accommodation and a simple breakfast of hot drink, warm bread rolls, cheese/ham.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Really helpful and communicative host speaking very good English. He will help you e.g. with choosing a place to eat well, ordering a taxi or share a priceless story. There is also a sweet cat, breakfasts made 'with heart'
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very friendly, made sure we got breakast even though we had to leave before 6 am. The whole facility was really warm, heating was on the whole night, plenty of hot water for taking a shower. Really great stay!

Cons: Nothing to complain about.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived in the morning, exhausted from a early morning flight and we were treated like family. Everything was better than expected.
Cons: Nothing
5.0 Okay
Pros: quite good location, hot shower, wifi, we could leave our baggage for a couple of hours.
Cons: It was a little like in a prison cell in a basement. Small window in the corner (almost no daylight). The room was kind of shabby, old and not warm. Breakfast mediocre. Tha bed was much too short (about 1.80 m)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good value for money, very helpful staff, good choice for a short stay, near the centre.
Cons: Room was not as it looks in the pictures
5.8 Okay
Pros: The hostal is small and run by a nice family. You can feel at home. It is quite close to the center. The rooms have attractive prices. The breakfast was good. The owner lent me a dryer
Cons: The atmosphere and the appearance of the rooms is a bit sad, there is little light and it is stuffy. The floors are wooden and one can hear their creaking when guests walk along the corridor. Shared bathrooms are small functional, lacking space for hanging towels, clothes, cosmetics etc. I have a objection to cleanless, we had to change the room because in our bed we found small insects, which unfortunately bitten us. The owner of the hostel helped us change the room and gave us anti-allergic drugs. She was attentive and showed that the mattresses were clean. We did not sleep at night, after about a week traces of bites disappeared. The area around the hostel is not very pleasant (strange night bars and hostesses)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Cozy and comfortable. The host is hospitable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Erm...everything! I booked a single room and received a huge room with a double bed plus 4 bunk beds. Great surprise! Staff were friendly, breakfast was delicious, location perfect, plenty of bathrooms, warm showers...the list goes on.
Cons: Everything was perfect.

Pros: Very nice room, with shower, mini fridge and a water boiler, very comfy bed, enough space for our stuff, clean, a really nice small breakfast area downstairs, also a space for our car, we were also able to leave our luggage there during the day and they called us a cab for the airport,
Cons: all good
10.0 Excellent
7.9 Good
Pros: It is in a good location.
Cons: Tiny breakfast room and skimpy breakfast.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, good staff, good cost performance
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I arrived at 3am and was warmly greeted. I didn't have any Chilean pesos so the manager paid the taxi for me (later added to my bill)! I'd been traveling for 36 hours because of travel delays and it was so nice to finally get here and find such beautiful accommodations. The breakfast was fabulous too.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, if rooms towards the sea ... fantastic view, good comfortable beds with good quality bedlinen. Nice designed, modern hotel.
Cons: No refrigerator, TV channels difficult to find, small TV away from beds, would like skimmed milk at breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service with a smile
7.0 Good
Pros: Very nice hotel and rooms, perfectly located in the city, with some rooms having sea view. Very welcoming and smiling staff. Lots of quality and choice for the breakfast, which is not so easy to find in Chile when you like both English+continental breakfast.
Cons: Most of the front desk staff could be better at English, especially in a city that is becoming a hub destination for many international travelers. However, there was one person 100% fluent in English at our check-in which made things easier and helped us a lot during our stay, thank you very much. Also, there should be more coordination between reservation staff and front desk staff. When asking for an airport transfer over the phone, a 1st person told me OK and sent me the fares by email, so I confirmed right away, then a few minutes later a 2nd person told me it was not possible because it needs to be booked at least 24hr ahead, and when I called the same number back a 3rd person, from another service, told me she didn't know anything about my transfer request and that it had to be done all over again because I was talking to the wrong service before. In the end the transfer was OK, but more coordination would be much less stressful for the customer, which shouldn't have to worry about which service he is talking to, it's not our fault if when ringing the same number one gets to speak to two different services than don't talk between each other. Another issue with twin beds: We asked for twin beds (the option was offered on booking.com, so we just clicked on it), and then received a message saying it might not be possible. We called, again, and got told they didn't know how many beds would be in the room and that we would have to find it out upon arrival! These problems could easily be addressed though, with better organization and coordination between staff members. Otherwise, the rest of the stay (hotel, room, breakfast, hospitality of front desk members) was superb.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very convenient for sightseeing, just in front of the park and close to the harbor. A good hotel for guests attending Antarctica Cruise
Cons: Number of staffs of the restaurant might not be enough for smooth operation.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room looking out at the water.
Cons: We are on the 7th floor with no way to cool the room except opening the window. No internal temperature control. Fortunately it’s not hot, but we slept with the window open.

Cons: Wasn’t on the water
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: The rooms can use a bit of an upgrade. The bathroom was quite small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great, you can walk to most of what you would want to see and do in PA. Hotel is very nice, very comfortable. Staff were excellent. We had to leave for a flight at 4 am and they made sure breakfast was available for us.
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff was friendly.
Cons: Staff couldn’t speak any English so difficult to communicate when we had an issue. Breakfast was not well supplied. Offerings were empty and it took a long time for them to refresh.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just about everything
Cons: A minor quibble was that the coffee shop was closed until 5pm on Sundays
7.5 Good
Pros: The location was good.
Cons: Unfortunately they had not calculated correctly the capacity of the hotel, when we arrived for breakfast everything was empty and all tables full of dirty dishes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Best Western Finis Terrae is a nice hotel that's right in the middle of town. Check in was normal as we arrived on an early flight and our room was not ready, the desk held our luggage for us so we could walk around town a little bit. Some of the guys at the desk spoke English. We got back around noon and checked in to a spacious room with a sit ting area, safe, wifi, and an ok sized bathroom that had a tub. Breakfast was included and consisted of fruits, eggs, bacon, breads, some pastries, coffee and juice. The view from the restaurant was very nice as its on the 6th floor and not many buildings obscure is view. The hotel is right in the middle of evening within close proximity of restaurants, money exchange, supermarkets, laundry, stores and tourist sites (all of which we used). Check out was also smooth and they held our luggage again as we didn't have to check in for our cruise until late afternoon so we could go do additional site seeing and shopping.
Cons: The TV was a little fuzzy at times, the desk didn't tell us we needed a safe key so I had to walk back downstairs to get it but these are minor inconveniences.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location, pleasant staff
Cons: Breakfast - everything has sugar! The hearing is turned up way to high everywhere
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My partner and I stayed here for two separate nights: one at the start or our trip and one at the end. Rooms are clean and comfortable, staff are friendly and helpful and speak good English, breakfast is good. Just a short walk up the road from the Avis car hire office. The staff arranged an airport taxi to pick us up at 5am which was a huge help. Shower and bathroom was clean. Overall good value and would stay here again.
Cons: Views from rooms at the back of the hotel weren't very inspiring but nothing to dwell on as the rooms were great
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was great. The breakfast was very good and had a great variety.
Cons: The person that checked us out charged us for an extra day. I believe he couldn’t count the nights we stayed there. He may have been new. It took a week before we got our credit, as he had to wait for the manager to do it. He was nice though.

Pros: The hotel is walkable to a lot of restaurants and shops. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
Cons: Construction out front added a fair amount of noise. No AC, but the bathroom window opens right out to the street and construction! Breakfast was mediocre; there are better ones at other hotels.

Pros: As expected really - typically 3 Star accommodation in a very good location with lots nearby. Very pleasant stay.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is good. It is close to different restaurants. It takes us just a short walk from the hotel to the sea front,
Cons: The road in front of the hotel was under renovation. Taxis and transfer cars can only stop at the corner of the street. This posed difficulties for travellers with large baggages.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Owner. Soledad, was very thoughtful and helpful. Breakfasts were filling and good. The neighborhood and hostel were very quiet. The WiFi was excellent
Cons: Just a few bathrooms with only 1 shower. A fair walk to get to downtown and the beach. Difficult communicating in only Spanish spoken.
6.0 Good
Pros: Location is fine. 10 minutes walk to city centre and big bus stops We had a room with 5 bed, comfort was fine 1 power connection for each resident Breakfast simple, but decent (juice, instant coffee, 1 small bread toasted with ham & cheese and also marmelade and caramelcream on the table. Really small bowl of fruit flavored yoghurt where you can add muesli to.
Cons: One of the two showers was not operating on the upper floor Host is really busy with servicing the building, opening the door, preparing stuff etc. She does not really has time for you if you trying to speak Spanish. Maybe she is more friendly when you are native or good speaking Spanish person. You have to ring the bell to enter, but we had several guests without patience what is making it annoying
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds are really comfortable and everything is clean
Cons: Breakfast comes prepared in small portions, so if you want to eat a lot in the morning, you should bring your own food
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Hot shower
Cons: Host didn’t prepare breakfast even if it was 8AM (it’s written starts at 7:00 AM). The most horrible thing is she said there’s no more food for us! We just ate one bread! And there’s kitchen, but you cannot cook anything. There’s no pan. And it’s prohibited to cook any kind of meat.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay with lovely staff and great facilities and wifi. Excellent location between the plaza and mirador.
Cons: Can't fault it!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, comfortable bed, a good place to relax.
Cons: A bit far away from the action, no sign on the door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect !!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place. Beds are very comfortable, very clean, breakfast was great!
4.0 Okay
Cons: No keys for the private (!) room; room and bathroom were not clean on arrival. when we asked for cleaning next day, they said they would clean, but nothing happened. When asked again, they didn't even apologize. Very disappointing. Breakfast was fine.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Communal spaces are relatively big. Beds are really cozy. The place IS kept really clean, thanks to the wonderful Janette, who also serves breakfast in the morning.
Cons: As other reviews will tell you, the house IS a fixer upper. However, if you're willing to bear with squeaky floors, doors, somewhat thin walls, two bathrooms (one with a shower) per floor, then you'll be ok. Also, it would've been nice to have coat hangers and towel hangers in the rooms and bathrooms. Breakfast would be even better with eggs (you only get ham/salami for protein, along with bread, cheeses, jam, juice, yogurt and oats, and instant coffee). Knobs on the kitchen stove are hard to use (read: should be replaced) and frying pans would be nice to have.
