BAD BAD BAD - Even though the Guy at the reception was kind, he provided a room for my GF that has a leg problem, accommodated us on the 1st floor, but the room had this smell, a hole in the carpet, the safe did not work, the bed mattress was worth to be thrown to the garbage. The receptionist was partying with his friend that went to visit him on the next door room and had a dog that barked up until 2:00am (upon check in said No Dogs allowed), which is not a problem for me, I love dogs, but not a barking dog next dog when I had to wake up early to keep traveling. The Laundry did not work, just soaked all my clothes and the dryer only did half the cycle, so I was stuck with dripping clothing on a plastic bag from the trashcan on the room, and half way dry cycle and wet PJs. Overall, my stay at the Santa Cruz BoardWalk Howard Johnson is a shame and will never recommend it at all, give it -5 Stars. Oh, forgetting about that perhaps Kumar was hang over that could not make it to provide breakfast, because even though it said "Breakfast included" the breakfast room was closed, and the reception was closed as well so could not check out. Hope no to get a surprise charge. NO NO NO NOT RECOMMENDED.

Pros:It was so nice being in walking distance of the beach. It's all about location. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Close to dining locations.

Cons:The hours of breakfast...perhaps could extend for late risers. The price was a bit high for what you get. Other lower budget hotels in general vacinity were similar as far as rooms & decor.
