Delicious dinner and breakfast (buffet)
This lodge is located between Solitaire and Sesriem. You stay in separate spacy bungalows each coming with a rooftop with chairs and a bed (!) from where you can watch the stars and the milky way. Dinner is excellent, and we got tasty beef and Oryx. Place is highly recommended and a good base for exploration of Sossusvlei.
As soon as the construction of the lodge is finished (probably by October 2019) it will be a great place you'll love to be. Marleen, the owner of the lodge, wants everything to be perfect, so that you get all the luxury you expect. The food (breakfast and dinner) that is offered is delicious. The rooms are big and you have the option to sleep in the room or on the roof of your bungalow because you'll find a bed there, too. When we will go back to Soltaire we definitely will stay at this lodge.. We only gave one star for the price/night because construction work is going on.
We booked in February. Two days before our arrival we got a message that ‘guest were complaining about the building activities’. We were rebooked to another lodge with free upgrade (which was excellent). When we past Agama River camp the whole place was closed and all cabins were under construction. They must have known this for months in advance. We are not happy about the last minute cancellation, however happy about the solution.
The host and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We were given few precious advises about our next way and roads around. The food is just excellent and nice decorated; you feel as if you are in the best city restaurant, not in the desert centre. The view from the restaurant is great, too. Good Internet (which is very unusual in that part of Namibia) even in the room (!), not in the public places only.
Probably design tends to be "simple" or "basic", but in fact a room is very, very basic and badly decorated and comfortless. Pictures at booking.com make much better impression than it is in reality. Four big geckos in the room were not so cute as those we had met in other countries, and it is a serious point which we could never accept. We do believe that such basic room should cost twice chipper.
When you stay at Agama River Camp in Sesriem, you'll be 1 minutes by foot from Namib Desert. Free self parking is available onsite.
