Courtesy seafood platter was a delicious surprise and seafront location very relaxing entertaining
our room was directly above the bar where the band played late into the night
It was close to the beach, the shops, everything really. Staff were nice. Food was good. Overall a nice place to stay.
Location of the Hotel is excellent being on the sea front and having an outside seating area for coffee/drinks etc. The Hotel is also only a very short walk from the ferry terminal.
The 'front of house' people and certain bar/restaurant staff need to be told what good customer service means. Locals may put up with shoddy & indifferent service but tourists/travellers will take their money elsewhere. They will also tell their friends of any bad experiences.
Weather - fabulous. Peaceful atmosphere!
The atmosphere, location, friendly people.
We had 2 nights, on the 1st night restaurant was not available due to a tour group. I think residents should have been considered. We booked because of the varied menu as my colleage is vegetarian. However could not fault the bar meals.
I chose the South Sea for it's location, views and price and it did not disappoint with these. As expected the hotel rooms were "olde world" but comfortable enough. The shared bathroom facilities were clean. There was an array of food choices - take-away, bar meals & restaurant. The blue cod was good and we were lucky to get fresh crayfish which had just come in (normally 24hr notice) for a very reasonable price. Overall, very convenient, view from room & balcony great, value for money.
The main negative was a damp smell in our particular room ( which we decided to ignore). Another niggle was the lack of a clock or other wake -up service before 6.45am. Apparently most people these days use their mobiles, so be prepared!
Sunday night quizz, excellent meals, wonderful harbour view from our room, beautiful sunrises and old hotel ambience.
Some receptionists not making eye contact when we came in.
