The View- the View! Amazing. The room was comfortable and cozy- not at all sleek and modern. I could not ask for more in term of the location and room. Please note- it's a heck of a walk to the hotel in this car free town. I expected this but was still surprised. I guess that's what you get for wanting a great view! ;-)
My fault. I was planning dinner out on the terrace overlooking the view. I was tired and did not want to really walk anywhere. It was Sunday night and the restaurant was closed in the late afternoon. I understand that is a norm in many places. I wish the staff had told me or pointed out the hours for that day.
Loved the view and the facilities - just what you needed for a relaxing stay on probably the most beautiful mountain I’ve ever experienced.
Whilst it was a decent walk and uphill from the cogwheel train, it comes with such a gorgeous view!
The location is absolutely stunning! That gives the biggest points of all. The room was big and comfortable, very quiet.
The member of staff didn’t speak any English, it was hard to communicate. It was dissapointing that the restaurant was closed - we only realised when an evening came as no one warned us about it - only to find out that everything is closed up on the mountain on a Monday! The staff should have warned us. We stayed hungry.
It was a self check in and the machine wasn’t working, so finally got someone to help. It took a long time and was inconvenient.
What a disapointment to see how the Bergsonne hotel lost its entire charm, its hospitality, its authenticity and even its comfort due to the new owners (hotel and restaurant ownership being independent frome ach other) Luckily the view remains wonderful and the rooms have not been so much impacted although "guest welcome and greet set with bottle of water, fruits and sweets is not there anymore. Check-in and out is now performed via an automate located outside of the hotel where guests name and reservation number are published and accessible publicly.(personal data protection law seems unknbown to the new owners) Although it is mentionned that guests can have breakfasts and dinner at the Italian restaurant located in the hotel, during my 3-day stay over a long weekend due to local public holidays, the restaurant was closed,. As strongly recommeded by one crew member who was there when we arrived, we had to take our breakfasts and dinners at other places (Alpina hotel) in Rigi Kaltbad. There is even no kettle, no food/drink automate machines in the hotel, So, guests are only accommodated with a roof, a room and bathroom. The hotel was empty. We used to go to Bergsonne hotel in the past: it was always such a great pleasure. We were always happy to hang in the librabry, to have great dinner while enjoying the amazing view and the colourful personalities of the previous owner and his staff. We very often stay at Rigi Kaltbad and will not accommodate at teh Bergsonne hotel anymore because all the negativity due to the newly owned hotel and restaurant did impact our stay and do not fit the spirit, the visitors and the philosophy of the Rigi. Staying there can damage anyone's experience on the Rigi and at Rigi Kaltbad
