Very friendly and helpful staff. Short walk to the downtown area. Right across from a beautiful pond. the attached restaurant was great.

we stayed on the top floor and the outside hallway was just bare wood. looked terrible but could not tell if it was under construction as it didn't look like anyone was working on it.

Although it was a very nicely laid out and attractive hotel I could literally hear the person upstairs going to the bathroom, that is how thin the walls and floors are.

A sincere 'Thank You!' to Bridgette and Chef Mark. I had forgotten to turn the lights off on my rental car the night before. The next morning when I came to the office to ask if a garage was nearby, they promptly found jumper cables and pulled a car around for me to get a charge from. Not too many hotels would go to those lengths to help their customers. The best hotel I've ever stayed in.

This is a great place. The rooms are well appointed and ours was convenient facing the pool. The condition of the room was great and overall the facilities were well kept up and in accordance with the upscale feeling of the place. The pool was great, clean and comfortable. The location of the facility is central to Monteray and pleasantly away from the tourist trappings of the wharf and Cannery Row. A very convenient bike trail connects Monteray and Pacific Grove and is the best way to see the sites. We definitely recommend this lodging and will look for it upon each visit.

The rooms propagate sound more than desirable. This may be due to ours being able to be shared with one next door. Otherwise no complaints!

Waitress at our restaurant in the morning for breakfast was extremely informative really understood her food and what was in them and very understanding of dietary conditions.

There seemed to be some confusion about the third-party payment, and how long our stay was scheduled for.

Room seemed clean

Charges extra for children

Staff was stern and unwelcoming. Free breakfast ends at 9:30 and that's no joke. Arrived with 2 toddlers 3 minutes late and breakfast was cleaned up and gone. Note to self: Look into to cheaper hotels across the street from a Denny's. This hotel was not worth the price or stress.

Amenities were VERY appreciated. Cleaning staff on the ball! View was great? Even through the fog. Great location. Not the main building, so access to continental breakfast not as convenient, but would not be a deciding factor not to stay again. No pool or Jacuzzi, but not a critical amenity unless you had young kids.

Nothing.

Bed was hard. Toilet wasn't strait. Door in bathroom looked like someone chewed on it. There's only a shower no bath tub. Very loud. People slamming doors and walking up and down the hallways. Trash truck was out front at 630am!! Friday morning is trash day so plan accordingly. Parking is slim. Place isn't worth the $.

The friendliness of the staff, the ambience and furnishings, the location, the value, the courteous attitude...I could go on! I eavesdropped on a fantastic history "lesson" given by the front desk attendant. Although I grew up in Monterey, I learned many things I didn't know. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The staff genuinely loves Monterey and it shows!

Not much to dislike! Soon to be ADA compliant with the addition of a functioning elevator=even better. In the meantime, if the stairs are overwhelming with baggage, tip the bellman and make his/her day with appreciation of how often they climb these historic staircases. Such a grand building! I'll be back!

I really like the pool and the location of the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey, it’s was very easy to locate. The staff was very good, I actually asked for a late checkout time and a few other things and they were very willing to accommodate me. The room was clean and had almost everything I needed..

What I dislike: This really is not about dislike it’s more about the comparison of value based on price. Hilton Garden Inn Monterey (“HGIM”), is expensive and maybe too expensive for what you really get. I travel a lot for work and with my family. And basically I would compare the HGIM with high-end Hotels in the Napa Valley and Santa Barbara. One: I would say if you pay upwards over 250 a night, a water bottle (just one) in your room would be really nice, the breakfast buffet was really good but again if you’re paying $$$ it would be nice if it was included and it would probably create more buzz for the property. The bar was fine but seriously it’s just a bar. The other thing is and this is not exclusive to the HGIM, a lot of hotels have this issue the doors for each room when they close are so loud that if you’re trying to take a nap or just concentrate on work it’s very difficult. I found myself hanging out in the lobby to do work. The room itself was not bad two queen beds they were very comfortable, the mini-fridge was loud, the TV was fine, the bathroom, was poorly designed the door scarcely had a enough room to open without hitting the toilet the detail work in the bathroom was not done well and the wardrobe it’s a wardrobe. I know I’m being critical in this statement but it’s because I hold the Hilton brand at a high value, because it asks for a high value for the dollars you pay.

The lady at the front desk when I checked in was very pleasant.

Too much money for the room, which was not all that. I've stayed at other hotels where i don't pay that much money and i get a free breakfast, nicer room. DOn't think i will stay there again when visiting Monterey.

Location was great!

1. Your ad said I had two options for this type of room: City view or Ocean view. I clicked on city view. In reality, I got a room on the second floor and a view of the building next door and the Subway down the street. VERY misleading ad and application form for your room. 2. I was given the option of a King or Double. The room was for my partner and I so I was hoping for a King. I've never received a double booking as a couple but this time I did. I called front desk to change my room when I got upstairs and they said I never specified King. Your website doesn't give a very obvious space for me to specify King though. 3. The room I was placed in was next to the weight room. It was loud because when people work out, they lick to drop weights which makes a lot of noise. This did not making sleeping very easy. 4. I tried paying for the internet but kept getting error messages. I'm good with computers and I'm certain this was a network issue and not a user error on my part. In short, I didn't get the room I expected, it was difficult sleeping at night bc we were so close to the weight room, there was no internet, and I don't understand how the front desk said I should have specified King bed when your online app form doesn't give me a space for that. I won't be staying at the Marriot any more in the future.

Great Location near everything. Friendly helpful staff.

Right across our a room dog barked all night. I had asked about bringing a dog and they said my room would be in a different location near entrance for easy access and rooms are selective, but yet a dog right across my room barking. Even room service heard the dog when he came to our room. I asked him and he said he was going to ask for me.. Nothing happened.

Our Hostess! Great old time rooms with updates but it took us back to vacations when we were kids.

Can't think of a thing we didn't like.

Sharon was great! she gave good suggestions on eateries and things to see & do. She also gets up early everyday and makes muffins for breakfast! This is a small quaint hotel with a great old fashioned vibe. We really enjoyed our stay and we're looking forward to coming back to visit!

Sharon, the operator, was warm and friendly and made a great breakfast. We arrived after the office was closed but she arranged that we got into our room with no problem.

It's quite minor, but there was no real public room to sit and have breakfast or work on one's computer. Breakfast was served in the small narrow office and the tables were outside.

Good location and excellent value; we paid--- a night for a room with two beds, including parking, breakfast and Wi-Fi. Not fancy, but nice and comfortable.

Prices are either the average per night price per room or first night of stay. You can select to display the prices with or without our estimate of taxes & fees (which may not appear on provider's booking page but will be charged at hotel checkout). Before you complete your reservation, verify the total cost on the provider's site. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller
At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We aggregate tons of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we don't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car rentals can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find on occasion that certain prices are no longer available.
